    This happened with me too. The first winter when I met my gf, I wore Tom Ford Noir Extreme every time I saw her. When Spring and Summer came around I put it to the back of my shelf and wore my fresher scents. The following year when the weather cooled down again in Autumn, I wore Noir Extreme again and she went absolutely feral, smelling me non stop and said it brought back all the memories of our time together the previous year when we first met. I have 40+ frags in my collection, so I could have easily worn something different on each date, but then it wouldn’t have had that effect. Made me realise I really don’t need all of them. Only a few that I love. Great content and nice to see a fellow Aussie making frag content !

      A lot of greed plays into marketing and buying more and more. I appreciate new releases be it cars, watches, sneakers or fragrances. But I love what I chose and I take time to do so. It’s a sorted concept with everything in life, even relationships and dating. At the end of the day it’s a first world problem to have. We are privileged to have that choice. Let’s choose wisely :)

    It's interesting that you chose Green Irish Tweed as your signature scent. Green Irish Tweed and Cool Water are considered very similar by many people, specially in the dry down (Creed is more expensive and with better ingredients but the result is surprisingly similar), so perhaps the fact that your father had Cool Water as his signature scent and that you associate this scent with your childhood and (I guess) good memories with your father, explains why you choose Green Irish Tweed.

    • @hey.alexedwards
      @hey.alexedwards  21 วันที่ผ่านมา +11

      Thanks an interesting thought - they're also by the same perfumer haha!
      I find the opening much more similar. The dry down is quite different in my experience.
      You could be right though. Perhaps this scent profile reminds me of my father, and helps me feel like the man I want to be.

    • @EOTA564
      @EOTA564 21 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      GIT has one of the most fantastic dry downs of any fragrance and it’s quite different from the opening. The best example of that signature Creed “ambergris” base in my opinion.
      Royal Oud is still my favourite but it’s more of a special occasion/dressing up fragrance than a signature scent.

So I dare to recommend you also CH Men (Carolina Herrera), with a grass opening (fresh and green, similar to GIT), but with a leather dry down, wich is very versatile; and also Herod (PDM), as a winter signature, a tobacco vanille combo with incense, very warm.

      That scent is a masterpiece and somehow still the strongest in my collection. The density, the projection, the longevity, the beautiful scent of effervescent and textured top notes followed by the soapy lavender, masculine woods, and ethereal ambroxan, not to mention the best-in-class atomizer and overall presentation. Dior ticked all of the boxes with this scent and it’s still my favorite from the line.

    To have a collection and to select a signature scent is quite challenging.
    I tend to wear more aromatic and fougere fragrances, and probably my signature scent lies in these families.
    GIT is one that i consider chosing as my signature scent, however, during this summer, LV Imagination is gathering quite a space within my rotation. It is another heavy contender for the spot!

    Alex. Once again a superb video/content. And indeed subject. Signature scent...more in a moment.
    Firstly, I am sure it will not be long before You are snapped up by one of Australia's TV channels. You would make a first class presenter. Correct me if wrong ( and I think someone has already commented) You do these videos unscripted? And no editing? What a skill! Confidence and always assured. Incredible! 👌.
    Back to the subject. Yes like you Prada Amber. Many, many years now. And I always associate with my visits to London. I have the Prada Amber limited edition travel canister. Amazing! Metal, chrome . Beautiful. When travelling, perfect. Also as I have said Comme des Garçons fragrances...Man, Oduer 71 and so on. That said in summer I like to wear Mr. Burberry Indigo...mint is ever present. Reviewers don't rate Mr. Burberry fragrances but I really like.
    Original 1980s Armani Homme, long discontinued is a classic. I tend to avoid " sweet" fragrances.

    This is a great topic! You are so right about scent being tied to memory. My father used to use Vitalis hair tonic. I do today, and it always reminds me of him dressing for work!
    Having a signature scent was the de facto standard when I was young. My father had one (Old Spice) and most men who wore scents wore the same one. And I did too for the first 30 years. Gucci Nobile was the first one for about 7 years, then Acqua Di Gio for about 20 years. But now that my interest in fragrances has blossomed, I'll have to consider what will be next. I like the idea of seasonal signatures. Wanting a signature scent is one factor that makes me question having a collection of scents, but I suppose it is a balance of two goals: being memorable via scent and exploring a passion. Just have to not let it get out of control 😉.

    "Signature Scent Profiles" is a perfect way to consider building a small collection. One of the best compliments I ever got wasn't from a stranger or from a date but from my sister. I was wearing The Hedonist by Ex Nihilo, which falls into the scent profile of Vibrato/Tygar etc., and I asked her what she thought and she said "it smells like you". Even though it was the first time I'd ever worn it, I understood what she meant. That grapefruit forward, sweet and citric but more elevated and not a simple "freshie" scent profile just suits how I dress and how my personality is, so I have several fragrances that smell like that and rotate through them. But they all smell like "me" to me, and to other people.

    Again Alex, so on point! Really enjoying your perspective on the world of fragrance. I have too many bottles to pin-point a signature scent and recognise I lean heavily towards woody orientals. But I have expanded to some other profiles over the last couple of years. I’m now only purchasing new fragrances that I really love and can’t stop thinking about having sampled and worn multiple times.
    Perhaps a suggestion for a future video with consumption in mind…other ways to enjoy the fragrances you have rather than constantly looking for the next one? Learning more about individual notes, detecting the same note in a few fragrances you have whether that be in the opening, mid or base, or maybe the history of the perfume house if you have multiple from them 😊

    I had the same Idea when it comes to Signature Scents. The Scent creates emotions and memories. I had long times only 1 that changed. First DHI, Then Musc Ravageur and then Aventus. Now I have 5. But in my opinion, having more then 10 Fragrances will make it hard to have a Signature Scent.
    What I dont care anymore is the Situation or location. I think if you feel comfortable and elevated with a Scent, you can wear it in any weather, situation or any season. I dont want to limit my Scents to a special season or occasion. Thats why I just pick one of my 5 and go out no matter what.

    Insightful thoughts on signature scents, especially with them being memorable and meaningful to both others and ourselves.
    My "signature" is a bit of an unusual one borne from accident: Oribe Côte d'Azur (the scent in their haircare products I use) layered with Spectre Wraith (I adore Kilian's Black Phantom which I first owned, but liked the ever-so-slight emphasis of earthy woodiness of Wraith to pick it this time around). The bergamot top note in Côte d'Azur uplifts the dark, flatter nature of Wraith, followed by a drydown that blends the sandalwood and vetiver DNA they share. Not too sweet, not too brooding, and less polarizing...perhaps an odd contradiction on paper, but complementary to the impression others have of me being just approachable enough with my polite (but somewhat stern) personality.
    If I had to pick a scent that's meaningful to me though...Tom Ford Black Lacquer. Very dark, enveloping, and comfortingly familiar. I mostly wear this as a "home" fragrance, and it reminds me of a pastime that matters most: exploring creative ideas on my bass guitar during time alone, playing uninterrupted into the late night hours. :)

    I have one rule for a "signature scent". It must be a fragrance i can wear any day or night, any time of year, and for any occasion (although not weddings and stuff. That calls for a special fragrance). My signature scent is Zaharoff, Signature Pour Homme. Clean, woody, and a little incense. Works for all but the hottest days where i live (Norway). Usually we get 10-15 days a year with temperatures close to 30C (86F). Most of summer is around 25C (77F). Zaharoff Signature Pour Homme works beautifully up to that temperature. Of course, i have 60 fragrances, so i often wear something other then my "signature scent". So if it's Actually my signature scent, i don't really know. But it works as one, at the very least. ❤❤👏🏼👏🏼

    Just started out with fragrances last year, and while I still haven't found a singular signature scent, though I''ve come to like Guerlain's fragrances - if I had to only wear one thing everyday both casually on the weekends and at the office, it would be something from the Habit Rouge line (EDT/EDP/Parfum), and I've been wearing Neroli Outrenoir for the special occasions. I find that Habit Rouge with the different concentrations are apt for the warm vs. cold weather, since EDT works during warmer weather, and the Parfum works well in winter. So maybe finding a scent, and trying the different concentrations might also be a method to get a different scent, whilst still having a similar base.

    1:37 Definitely understand this sentiment. My dad has always had Leau Dissey as his signature for as long as I can remember and it reminds me of home and my childhood too. Might even be the reason that I like freshies so much. I've got a doggo and he is the reason that I know I have got a signature scent that even I didn't know about. I have about 15 perfumes in my collection and although I do rotate regularly, apparently I must be wearing one more without my realisation cause when my doggo smells Burlington 1819... I don't even have to be near him, he just gets excited. I just spray it on in my room and he can smell it and gets up. When I wear other stuff, he can't be bothered until he sees me but Burlington 1819 makes him get up and wait for me to come downstairs. Even when my dad tried it, he was looking for me when my dad came down and he was fully awake and excited. Didn't even know that it was my signature scent until he started reacting to it like that 😂 Not sure about my friends cause I have never asked them if they noticed but I know my family thinks Burlington 1819 is me cause my doggo does this at home. Definitely fun to know that at least to him, there is a scent that he associated me with 👍

    Your powdery vibe is associated with iris i think. We have similar tastes in fragrances and this is the note that made me like prada l'homme, GIT , DHI, dunhill icon, Gris Charnel, Reflection man & Beloved man. I even think that this vibe is what made you think prada amber had iris in it (even if it's not the case)
    In my head, powdery scents (when masculine) really gives off the idea of a nice gentleman/family man that is kind and cares about others.
    I like it when i can get the combination of citrusy leaf/orange blossom/neroli, a powdery touch (iris) & a woody base. You can find this concept in most of the fragrances i talked about.
    So yeah a signature scent profile is really a thing, and it's a great thing to explore for people that don't want to stick to one fragrance but still want to give a distinct vibe. For me a good collection is 70% signature scent profile and 30% explorative/different scents to keep it playful.

    Sorry for the incoming semi-dramatic longpost :P
    I have a different position in regards to what a signature scent is. To me it doesn't have to be versatile, it doesn't have to be worn often or not something people know you by. To me a signature scent is one that fits your personality in every way, presentation, concept and obviously scent. One that speaks to you on a personal level, a mirror reflection of yourself when no one else is looking. A signature scent doesn't have to be a billboard, a stamp or an advertisement that announces you to others in my opinion.
    A more mature man might identify with a resinous, dense scent...something like Serge Lutens Ambre Sultan or Roja Apex. A businessman with a classy side will pair up with a citrusy woody perfume like Terre D'Hermes. A playful young guy that has no worries and attends partys often might identify with Invictus or Ultramale. An ambitious and driven personality that isn't very emotional would wear Dior Sauvage or Aventus. Someone who likes comfort and cozyness might enjoy a thick, tea-like, warm amber fragrance.
    A classy woman might identify with a reserved, french, oldschool aldehydic musk like Chanel No. 5, or perhaps a green floral or why not a citrusy woody scent like Bal D'Afrique. A young energetic woman or girl that enjoys living life to the fullest can choose a bubble gummy sweet perfume like L'Inderdit or something along the line of La Vie est Belle. A domineering, not to mess with woman might wear a rose oud perfume.
    Or you might be an androginous person and wear a unisex scent that tiptoes between gender markers. It doesn't have to fit in every situation and every season, a signature scent doesn't have to be a "one size fits all" perfume that is bordering on the generic because lets be honest, often versatility equals generic and then its a signature scent for EVERYONE. It has to describe YOU on a deeper level.
    I have about 30 fragrances in my collection and they are quiet different, i like them all very much but in reality only about 2 of them fit my deepest personality traits, hence why they aren't signature scents. They are just "clothes" for different ocassions, scenarios and seasons.

    I don't like to have a signature fragrance. Especially in the case of men, we grew up (gen x here), being told that we should focus on important or at the very least "manly" things, not frivolous stuff like fragrances. So generations of men just looked for one scent they liked, bought it for eternity and that was it. That's why they had something like a signature scent. No care or time spent to really discover the world of scents or fashion. Today men can have it differently. Understanding that we have different facets, we can play with scents, having fun with it. I fully lean into it. At the very least I would suggest men changing up their perfumes regurarly for the sake of not getting agnostic to just one scent.

    • @hey.alexedwards
      @hey.alexedwards  21 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      I completely understand where you're coming from, and appreciate your thoughts on this. My immediate response would be that I agree that it's a positive to be able to be more expressive and enjoy trying/wearing different scents. In saying that, I also believe that through hopping from scent-to-scent, style-to-style, etc., we lose a sense of distinct character.
      Of course, who we are at our core, our values, etc. are what truly define us, but our style, scent, hairstyle, etc. also play a role. If everything we do differs so drastically in the name of self-expression, I feel that we ALL lose our differentiating factors.
      Does that make sense? I could be way off, but that's how I see it.
      Thanks again for sharing your thoughts.

    Regards Alex. Very nice ideas and suggestions here. For someone like me, might be better not having a signature scent 😅🤷🏼‍♂️, I actually don’t have one anymore. Since I have so many fragrances I love, I have “fun” with the struggle of having to choose which one to wear for the day.
    I live on the Caribbean, here we have an eternal summer weather. However, I love dark, woody, leathery, boosy, mature fragrances, commonly used for fall, winter and spring seasons, but I have all types of fragrances. So, I have no choice but to wear them when ever I desire them 🤷🏼‍♂️. However, the mainstream of my daily activities happens within air conditioned places. So, I try to strategically wear all my fragrances depending on the place I will be moving around, taking in consideration the versatility of the fragrance and controlling the amount of spraying if I will be in and out environment during the day. I love the idea of classifying my fragrances by seasons, but I have to make a plan to look for the right spot to do so. I’m almost out of space to accommodate them. 🫣🙃😇

      I can imagine it would be quite warm, and probably humid over there!

      @ Exactly. Nevertheless, our “winter,” temperatures might only drops like 10 to 15 degrees from normal, mostly during the night on the populated city areas (right now is 23 degrees celsius/11:50pm). On the countryside, specifically on the hills, temperatures cold drops somewhat more dramatically, they could experience 8 to 10 degrees celsius. The rest of the year we have 30 degrees and above day and night. 🥵
