Hi there, I believe you clicked on the wrong MI-newisland. If you had the same problem as me, try it again but there should be an almost identical mi_newisland. When you click on it there should be a thing in the bottom right corner that says compiling shaders. Once out all loads in you should be good to go
when you select the landscape you can modify stuff in the Details window on the right. in the Landscape section of that Details window, look for Landscape material and change it for the same one : MI_NewIsland. I had the same problem and found that there is 2 material named MI_NewIsland. Hope you found it already or this will help!
It's hard to say without knowing all of the details. Does the landscape appear to be completely black? If you don't have a directional light in the scene, you won't be able to see the painted materials. Do have a material selected in your Target Layers? If you can send me a screenshot via imgur or bitly I'd be happy to take a look, and see what I can do.
@@vilie1586Lie oh ok. Delete that directional light and just add in a new one. For whatever reason, the one that is in the initial level is bugged and just needs to be deleted. Then you just drag a new one in, make sure that it is active and you should be able to see what you are painting.
ok now i have a question. is it possible to make the map taller? and by that i mean when i moved the map z scale up and tried to play and see if the terrain was accessible i died about 3 fourths of the way up. so im wondering how do i move the sky box if that's even possible? or just make it so that i dont die after leaving it after all one of my favorite things in an ark map is elevation gain and look at the center map, From the bottom of the water to the top of the playable field its about as tall as 3 island maps. how do i do that?
By nature, terrains have limits in the unreal engine. You can lower the terrain starting point (z-axis), and then scale it, but the materials will end up looking slightly off. The only real way I know around this, and it will be painstakingly hard, would be to use multiple terrains to be the 'mountains' of a larger terrain underneath. Essentially, you'd create a base layer, and when you got to the peak of that, you'd make a smaller terrain to go on top of that. If you are comfortable with blender, you could also make your own static mesh of a mountain and implement that on top of the peaks of the terrain.
Well I’m still having trouble learning blender. No good tutorials that I’ve found. I saw y’all have one so I need to watch that. But I guess I could try lowering the whole thing. I’m just trying to get a similar scale to the center or ragnarok
yeah i was able to pump the resolution to 8k no problem (beefy pc) i guess what im looking for isnt so much looking for a wider or longer map, im trying to increase how high it can go vertically and the 8k doesnt seem to affect anything vertically because there is still a sky box that kills you if you go the far up and it sits at the same point regardelss of what i try.
I get as far as making the landscape and as soon a s I try to save the landscape my whole computer locks up and I have to hard reset following this tutorial, I know my computer is more than up to it (Ryzen 7@5GHZ and 64GB of DDR4 and running from a fast M.2) I have followed the old tutorial by "Exilog" and had zero issues, what could be causing it to lock up like that ?
I set the material when I made the landscape, and I mentioned collision in later episodes. There is actually a whole video dedicated to the landscape material.
I am having troubles trying to paint it, when i click to paint it this message pops up, "This layer has no layer info assigned yet. You must create or assign a layer info before you can paint this layer." Please help
Did you highlight a material to paint onto the landscape? That usually pops up when you try to paint without first selecting a material. If you are still stuck send me a link with some screenshots of your landscape editor, and I'll see if I can see anything wrong.
i would make sure that you have the land your painting is selected and that at 0:30 you watch and make sure that you did what he did selecting the paint to use for each layer
even in 2020 the ark editor is still the worst and this has noting to do with UNR im using the engine for years but never had such a bad experience with the engine then this
why doesnt my targetlayers show up there is nothing to select follewed the exact steps like u

There is nothing on the target layers for me.
I want to paint my map but I cant see my paint. What do I have to do to make my Paint visible When I Zoom in?

Thank you it works, im a bloody beginner with this program
@@vilie1586 No problem. We are happy to help. Good luck!
I don't know if it was mentioned in the vid and i just missed it, but how do you lower terrain (inverse of the
sculpt tool)
nvm got it, for anyone with this question here, shift and use the tool
@@angeredturtle9135 was about to comment this. Glad you got it sorted!
Ok so my shif key doesn't do anything ...is there a new way to lower the ground?
I can’t paint anything , there are no key textures

Make sure you have a high detail height map. something in the range of 8k is what they used for Ragnarok

I have no idea. The editor as a whole is rather buggy, so it wouldn't surprise me if you stumbled onto one.
Is it just me or is not mentioning setting the landscape material and changing collision a big deal....

ok, the problem was resolved, i didnt select a blueprint for the material, thank you for the help guys.

I have problems too but there pops no message up. I cant see my layer choose
only a minute in and i dont have any target layers
I hate it when tutorials skip things that they did. "I added a camera actor and a player start." Oh yeah? How? Isn't this a tutorial?
You can click and drag all of those items into the scene from either the content browser or the modes tab.
