Bats at Chester Zoo | Fruit Bat Forest | Flying Fox Bats

Come explore the Fruit Bat Forest at Chester Zoo with us.
There are 2 species of Bat in this Habitat, the Rodrigues Fruit Bat and The Seba's Short-Tailed Bat.
The Habitat has been reversed so that it replicates night time during the day, this is so the visitors can see how the bats behave when active. At night when the visitors have left the zoo, the habitat then replicates the day time for the bats to rest.
The Bats are excellent navigators and so do not fly into visitors, many people are still very anxious when walking through here though!

Thanks for watching, yes it can be a little scary, the bats fly so close you can feel the air movement from their wings. I have been through it on school trips with each of my kids and some of them are petrified.

Nice exhibit! Fruit bats are so interesting to me. So cool that they are able to replicate night time that way to make it a truly authentic experience.

It is a great exhibit and really popular, last time we visited the zoo the queue for it was around 15 minutes. We skipped it as it is nowhere near as enjoyable when your walking through with a big group of people. It is so good at quieter times when you can step out of the flow of people, let your eyes adjust to the dark and just stand and watch the bats.

Not to mention my favorite animals are bats. Winter season is near and the only objects that keep me warm in my bed are my bat stuffed animals. In that case, my grandmother passed away six years and ten months ago and the bat plush toys act as transition objects to remind me of my loved ones, especially elderly members. She has lived to the age of ninety four and I still miss her very much.

That is so cool. I remember taking a tour in the Arizona and they bought us into a bat cave and they explained that the bat
poop serves as fertilizer. They especially called out the Fruit Bats as they drop the seeds else where. Bats are SOOOOO Interesting. LOL. Like #6 guys!

Same thing from Omaha, Nebraska, United States of America 17 years ago, I've been to Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo when I firstly studied abroad since 6th grade, when I was in the cave section, I smelled the unpleasant fruit scent throughout the tour, and knew the fruit bat after seeing the information; just as I heard from the children's story called Stellaluna by Janell Cannon. I was interested a lot. What an unbelievable memory that has been 17 years old.
