being a musician myself John Denver wasn't country wasn't Rock wasn't folk wasn't soul he was John Denver music what a legend of all times loved him R.I.P
This video is a wonderful legacy for us John Denver fans!! He was certainly not only a great singer, but had a great attitude all of us should try for.
I sometimes still cannot believe he is dead. Such a sweet soul, such a voice that was so unique, no other singers of today come even close to his. He was not just a singer, he was a positive force. His work with the environment, his love of people and the earth. I find myself saying "if only" when I hear him. If only he had lived. If only he could have graced this earth for a few years more... I miss him.
This brings back memories of a concert I saw of John, in the early 70's. He said something like "I know what you're thinking, he can sing, he can play the guitar, but can he juggle?" After which John brought all the balls and proceeded to do so to the audience's delight. Nobody like him ever.
In the 60's & 70's - most people were like John Denver. The world (at least the world I lived in) was full of love and kindness to each other. Now, I'm glad I'm old and will soon leave this ugly hate filled world we live in now.
This literally brought a tear to my eye just now. I sure wish we hadn't lost John. I can't help but wonder how much music and how many new songs died with him.
I love and miss him so much. He brought me through my troubling teenage years. Part of my heart and soul died when he died. Thank God for You Tube lets me watch videos and see him again
WOW no wonder he is my hero! did you hear that about he respects women! I LOVE HIM. this is such a great interveiw, a good interveiwer, and of course John Denver. This is very special to me.
Even as John corrects him and says 'Perhaps Love' his head is down. Looks like a sad time for a man who gave a lot to millions of people. The applause and his reaction at the end makes it all right again.
This musically talented man has incredible ability to dig deep into the human heart, and articulate his feelings. His songs are special - touch people deeply.
Ten years ago, this date was a Friday, it was our wedding day, this is the song we chose to have playing whilst we signed the wedding register, it describes how we felt on that day and still do today. Miss his voice and talents so much.
I used to dance my baby girl around the living room to this song. She passed away 33 years ago at the age of 4. This song brings me right back to those moments. Thank you, John Denver.
I love this solo of John I also like it that just as john shared his music that he shared it with Placido. yet. when they did it together it did change it so I appreciate both ways of hearing it. fab will always be his natural and free tone. Placido Domingo is such an awesome counter tenor I feel it is unfair to deny either of two masters of different genres of music. be well
john sings with such sincerity and sweetness. just discovered this song and love it, so beautiful. i wish he could have lived longer in order to experience more of life. RIP, john.
What a beautiful song'what a beautiful artist'what a beautiful human being'an incredible singer and song.straight from the heart.you died too soon 'John'and so badly missed.we will never see your like again..god bless you..ken lonergan.
What intelligent interview questions. Didn't trifle with John at all and managed to get him to answer a personal q. Very skilful. Beautiful rendition of Perhaps Love. Boy, could that man sing live!!
"...success is doing that thing that you’re inclined to do that comes out of you, the thing that you’re able to do, and doing it as well as you possibly can and in such a way that it’s of some value some benefit to the people to the life around you...If you’re living in that way, and growing yourself as a human being, and learning about yourself in your relationship with people, I consider you a success..."
🥀Amazing interview with John Denver he's truly missed I miss his song's from his heart it touches mine on so many levels. He was such a precious soul to me I say that because he's real in his lyrics vocals and music. 🥀RIP John Denver We Love You🥀☝️🥀🕊
I prefer this solo to the duet with Placido Domingo yet I like both. John Denver's voice is so uniqu, high but still masculine (not falsetto) Just so pure and wonderful. He is missed.
I am impressed that his definition of success given back all those years really did go on to define is life and priorities. On the realtionship with Annie, one of the songs that told of the early seeds of stress was his famous Leaving on a Jet Plane.
I know this is an old comment but it's untrue. John wrote Jet Plane before meeting Annie. He has said many times it was about the longing to have someone to feel that way about.
this is the first time I watch this video. I learned to sing and speak English with John jenver"s songs When I went to the US people said I didnt event have an accent. And the first song ever I learned to sing was Perhaps love. THanks to my hero, JD. He always inspired musically. I am so sad he left us so young
I can see why THIS song was Annie's favorite John Denver song. I can't say I am a big JD fan but I do love this song. I listened to it after seeing an interview with her saying this was her favorite.
Wonderful interview followed by one of my favorite Denver songs. I like the version of this song he does with Placido Domingo. Watching this made me realize how much I miss John Denver.
To me, John Denver is a special person, his face and energy show the presence of that wise and down to earth North American Indian as a part of him. He's pretty much switched on, fully present when on stage in a kind and gentle way. This song has comforted me much, in trying times.
First heard this song played at the Memorial for John in Aspen, a week after he died. It may actually have been taken from this recording, it was just John singing with his guitar.
Homeward Bound Journal,How true you are.A true test of people is how they react under circumstances like cancer or the loss of a parent, friend that defines the person within.Happy Thanksgiving to all.SCole
I miss John so much. Even after 16 years I still cant believe he is gone and I get reminded of that fact every year on my birthday October 17 which was the day that his funeral memorial was held. I was in Monterey CA the day he had his accident. I am 51 and I love his music. Ted Vigil carries on johns legacy today. He is currently on Tour with Steve Weisberg in various venues throughout the US.
Have loved this song for a long time but discovered this video just today. Much prefer John's solo performance here to the much posted concert performance with Placido Domingo. However, the one with PD did offer up a new factoid: this song was written with John's mother in mind. (start at 5m7s for the song alone)
Annie has stated in more than one interview that this is her favorite song by John. I can see why. This was recorded so soon after their separation; you can just see the pain in his heart as he sings. Thank you for posting this!!!
You are right. There was an interview where she stated that not long before his passing he sent her the words to this song; and told her again that he loved her. I can't help but think that had they been given more time just possibly there might have been a reconciliation of their relationship.
Well, life won't be easy, loosing someone u love.Wish he wouldn't die soon, who knows as he had mentioned it,"there'll be a time for him and Annie to be together again."
A love song of great beauty but also sadness. You feel it in his singing and see it in his face. How tragic his love for Annie brought such conflict and pain. A genius with troubled soul who left us many treasures that shine with humanity and love. I prefer this solo, which is more heart-felt and personal, than the duet with Domingo who I feel, is too dominant and dare I say, insensitive. . .
oswald wellman this is purer for sure...but the duet reminds me that a classically trained, professional, accomplished opera singer wanted to sing with John Denver ;)...And Placido was lucky to get the chance ;)

Listening in 2020 during Covid...just discovered this song. My dad just died one month ago. Can't be with my mom or brother to grieve together or have a service. This song reminds me of my dad and this time of love and loss... memory of love and Jesus' love will see me through ❣️😢❤️
@@chrisculver5132 Sorry for your loss and being unable to grieve with your loved ones. Stay strong and as much as possible think of the good times you shared with your Dad, which will surely carry you through the tough days. Stay safe and all the best buddy
Does anyone know if a recording of Perhaps Love exists with this smooth feel/tempo? The guitar part in all my recordings is kind of plunky and I find this much more appealing.
1:49 ... Yes, yes, you're quite right Johnnie, even today; people all over the world, do have the same feelings about things, including people who have mental illness. Mad (narcissist) is the same in every country. ... R.I.P.
John got a triple whammy here: the song introduced wrong, told to go 'pick up the guitar', then given about 3 seconds to do it. The performance was perfect, thanks to his experience. I spent many years not being a fan of his; I may have been mistaken.
R.I.P John. You made a HUGE difference in this journey called life.

Still miss this man immensely. What a song!!
I never knew John Denver were as wise as Buddha! This was an amazing interview.

Who wouldn't love John Denver?
If our world had more people like John Denver in it, it would be a much better place.
A música mais linda te todos os tempos.

I think john was right this is perhaps his warmest and most tender and best he wrote. thanks John Denver
This literally brought a tear to my eye just now. I sure wish we hadn't lost John. I can't help but wonder how much music and how many new songs died with him.
perhaps, ..we can't get along without him. Take time young people to explore John Denver. He was so special.
I'm 16 and been listening and loving John Denver since I was a toddler
Beautiful to see John speak about his music.
Perhaps Love was played at my wedding in 1983.
Always brings me to tears.

Gone too soon but what a legacy he left all of us! RIP John & ThankU!
Wow! I have to say in his last 10 years on planet earth, John really colored his words so well when he sang his songs.
Even as John corrects him and says 'Perhaps Love' his head is down. Looks like a sad time for a man who gave a lot to millions of people. The applause and his reaction at the end makes it all right again.
This is the most beautiful version of this song! Miss ya man!
He will always b remembered and his music lives on in many ways.
Yes, there's definitely a strong tugging at the heartstrings in this version

In the 1982 performance of this song at the Apollo Theatre in London he says that he thinks its the best song he ever wrote. Pure magic.
I think it is too.
You saved my life many many times bless you

Lovely song. John always had a yearning in his voice, something unfulfilled. A great talent gone too soon
there was always a sense of sadness in his songs & voice . He's at peace now but is sorely missed. Life, hey.

His best song. Absolutely beautiful. Pebble mill?!
Pebble Mill was the name of the studio, Birmingham in England I think? It was a live show that aired at 1pm each week day.
Thankyou Mr.Denver!!!
I wonder who the people who disliked this treasure are. Come on! Wash your ears and your souls.
Love you forever John. I have loved your songs ever since i was small (I am 47 now). NKC, Malaysia
This song was a new discovery after John's death so I look on it as his "gift" to me. I miss him so.
He stated on a video that this song was written for his audience... although it is perfect for a sweetheart.
Soy mexicana y solo puedo aplaudir lo que este ser humano nos da a toda la humanidad. El es grandioso y me regocijo con su música y su mensaje.
Oh my God...I don't want him to be gone! I want him alive and adorable again...so so sad.
