I'm glad someone had the brilliant idea to test four different receivers using the same antenna, instead of them using their respective telescopic whip antennas! 📻👍 I use a passive 100 foot long wire from my garden into my bedroom which is terminated by a 1 : 49 mini balun and an indoor genuine MLA-30+ active loop. They're equally powerful in raking in the faint stations but I've always liked an outdoor antenna that is exposed to the sky. I have only 50 percent of your radios in this video - a Tecsun PL-990 and a PL-680. I almost bought a used, but otherwise in very good condition TechniSat ATS-909 (a rebadged Sangean) but wasn't sure if buying an old receiver that might need capacitor replacement within a year would be sound idea. Just wondering, which bandwidth filter setting did you have your PL-990x on at the time this was recorded and did you intentionally tune your PL-680 to a powerhouse broadcaster like China Radio International using the narrow bandwidth filter? 🙂
Thank you for the comment. The filter on the 990x was at 3.5. I normally keep it there, signals seem to sound better to me on 3.5. I chose Radio China since it comes in well in Florida in the mornings. I left the filter at narrow on the PL680 since the signal was strong and I didn't think I needed to change it.
The X2 is a beautiful looking radio, I love the big display. A little out of price range still though for its features. Thanks for watching and commenting!
The 990x has a much fuller sound due to a better speaker but more fading (at time of recording maybe). The pl-680 and Sangean were both pretty clear but I'll pick the 680, with the DX-380 trailing the pack. My ears of course. Your recording device does very well-sounds good. What do you record with? Thanks for all of your interesting content. 👍
The filter on the PL990x only go up to 6, and 4 in SSB. The PL680, ATS909, and DX-380 only have a narrow/wide filter. I had the filter on the 990x at 3.5

In the Pre-Internet Stone Age, listening to shortwave radio stations was my entertainment.
Indeed it is!
I had the Radio Shack DX 398 for many years and wore it out. Looking at the Sangean ATS 909
X2 as a replacement. Basically the same radio.

Thank you for the comments and for watching. I use my Samsung Galaxy S23 to record.
The filters sound like they're set at 2s. I'd like to hear them whacked up to 9s

Amazing . I love it 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

Nice antenna setup with your Tecsun PL-680.
Thank you. I also have another MLA-30 Plus Loop Antenna at 3 ft. off of the ground. I use it for my SDR.
