Ratchet and Clank has always been in my top 3 in game series. This game has been my very first video game that I ever played, and I played all the games in the series over and over and over and over and over and still haven't got tired of them. MAN! Nostalgia at its best.

The Ratchet and clank games lost their classic look when they made the transition to PS3. But the ps3 series were great in there own right. I think I had the most fun on crack of time or ratchet and clank 3. The new ratchet clank on ps4 is amazing but I'd like to see them change the weapons. I don't want to start the game with the same shooter and grenade launcher every time

The PS4 Ratchet is an insult to the original in every way shape and form. No need to defend it. A Crack in Time was the last good game before the series turned into a baby's franchise for 5 year olds.
@Retendo Like I said, it feels they dumbed down the series for complete babies after the Future series. Hell I would even argue that those games were too childish compared to the OG PS2 classics, and go against the tone that the originals went for, this satire against consumerism commercials and greed. The cutscene style of the PS3 games go against the tone of the original games, the original games were very wacky and cartoony, but only with the commercials that introduced them to new planets, the cutscenes outside the commercials were pretty tame and normal with funny moments that didn't try hard to be wacky and zany. These games made us not trust the cute wacky over the top cutscenes because all of the commercials were associated with the villain's schemes, and that makes the tone of the Future games's cutscenes feel even more phony.
I do still like the Future games because they provided a challenge(especially Tools of Destruction, the only game that made OP weapons like the groovitron a rare and expensive item that you have to ration). Tools of Destruction was also the last game to feature the badass distinct style of the OST that the series started off with.
A Crack in Time had some great additions, the space/mini-planet exploration, Clank's time recording puzzles, and the rocketboots. Despite my opinions on the cutscenes being too childish, I did like the story between Ratchet and Azimuth, that is the only positive I will say about the story of the whole future series.
A Crack in Time was the first game to have the most generic and forgettable music(during gameplay, and not counting the radio stations, that shouldn't be the highlight of a game's OST). Also it is the first game to start designing Ratchet to be too cute and kidsy, it really doesn't bother me with this game because the only design choice that makes me say that is his puppy dog eyes. But every game that came after this game, really bothered me with how cute and plushy they designed Ratchet to be. *Seriously, just look at Going Commando and Deadlocked's Ratchet designs, and compare them to the Ratchet designs from horrendous 2016 reboot and All 4 One.*
Now based on the fact that I said that the series got too childish after the PS2 era in my opinion, you can see why All 4 One didn't interest me. They removed the nanotech system, and added nothing new. The series from here took the childish tone to a another level, now the game display a big icon of the button you should press for the swingshot and other items, not just during the tutorial but throughout the whole fucking game, and I hate when video games hold my hand like that. The weapons are not as interesting as the weapons from the previous game. This game is a fun multiplayer with great level designs. I'm sure I would like this game a lot more if it had nothing to do with Ratchet and Clank, if it was a multiplayer platformer of a fresh new franchise.Then I could just let it slide that it's a kids game with its lame comedy. I played this game for about an hour at my friend's house back in 2011, I enjoyed it a bit, but I have no interest to play more of the game.
Into The Nexus is the first game of the series that drops the framerate from 60 fps to 30 fps, and it feels inferior to the previous games not only due to the blurry screen during camera movement, but also the gameplay slightly lags a bit more than the previous games. Once again, I think the cutscenes are too childish, and the music is bland and generic. The weapons are largely rehashed from previous games, and the only new weapon that I can remember is the one that shoots out a monster to gulp its enemies, it looks cool asthetically, but it is such an ineffective weapon. The only 2 good things I will say about this game are;
1. The dinosaur planet, I had fun exploring this planet, it combined some of my favorite aspects from previous games; the glider from Going Commando, the open-world crystal collecting concept from Going Commando, the rocketboots from A Crack in Time and the prehistoric setting, which was my favorite part of Tools of Destruction.
2. The use of gravity manipulation, it made both Ratchet and Clank's gameplays fun.
I did not play Full Frontal Assault, and I'm not really interested in that game because I really don't like the tone the new games are taking, but I'd much rather try out that game than the 2016 reboot. I refuse to try that game out because the idea of this game just pisses me off. By only titling it "Ratchet and Clank" it feels as if this game's release intended to bury the original under the rug and replace it with this new chilidsh tone that holds the players hand the whole time. I watched GamingBritshow's 1 1/2 hour video essay comparing the original to the reboot, and he seemed to share a lot of my views on the series turning too childish, so I know that if I play the game, my opinions will just echo his video essay. I highly recommend that video. It is titled "How Ratchet Lost its Edge"
@Retendo Apologies for the long ass response. I'm not trying to escalate some argument about whether or not these games are good. I just wanted to elaborate my opinion on the series, why I think the PS3 games are inferior to the PS2 games, and why I just lost interest in the series after A Crack in Time.
So to wrap this up, this is the list of games from the series that are replayable for me.
1. Going Commando
2. Ratchet and Clank (The original PS2 game)
3. Deadlocked.
4. Up Your Arsenal
5. A Crack in Time(this game and Up Your Arsenal are very close competitors for me)
6. Tools of Destruction.
@Retendo I never said the graphics of the PS3 game cutscenes were bad, I just didn't like the new direction they took, with the childish tone(I'll try to make it the last time I use the word lol). The graphics of the PS3 games are obviously better, but I'm not sure which version of the originals you must have played for the games to be very blurry, I played both the PS2 copies and the HD collection, and they both ran at a smooth 60fps with no motion blur.
I could see why you assume my preference of the tone from the PS2 cutscenes is nostalgia, but it's more of a tonal preference, I love satires on consumerism, mega-corporations and the evils of greed like Robocop(the original), and American Psycho. Also I was introduced to this series with ToD and UYA in 2011 when I was 13, I loved them of course, but my point is I was introduced to the series with the games that didn't have a satirical focus on mega-corporations and consumerism. In 2012 when I played the first 2 games, I loved the satirical tone the series started off with.
Another thing I will say that appeals to me more with the original games is that they were more platformer oriented. As Ted Price once said "We started this series as a platformer with guns, and eventually turned it into a 3rd person shooter with platforming" and I am biased towards 3D Platformers because Crash Bandicoot and Spyro were my whole childhood lol. So that is another reason why I place the first 2 games above the rest.
Also I disagree when you say that it is unfair to compare the original game to the reboot, they're both made by the same developers, and it is a reboot. If the game and movie were not trying to retell the story of the original at all, and acted as its own sequel and/or spinoff story then yeah it would be unfair to compare it to the original. But it is a reboot, and this one removes half of the levels, has the most patronizing tutorials, no one shuts up during the gameplay sections, and I would rather have outdated graphics that still look good running at a smooth 60fps with no motion blur, rather than current graphics along with blurry motion camera during gameplay that runs at 30fps. The removal of any challenge the original provided; the fact that you can basically turn on infinite ammo and invincibility after getting all the gold bolts, It seems like even though this game has a difficulty setting unlike the original, on its hardest mode.
I also find it strange that they reuse a lot of ToD weapons and not the original weapons, granted the original game doesn't have the most interesting arsenal, but come on, not even the highlights? No tesla claw, visibomb gun, or suck cannon?
I do like your doctor check in analogy for the importance of gameplay vs story, for me it is very applicable for the Future Games. I love the gameplay enough to replay both games multiple times, but I don't like the story or comedy.
The original 2 games and Deadlocked are the best in terms of story and comedy from the series, and even then I would only go as far as saying the stories are pretty good, they don't have anything . But there was also potential to make these stories much better than they were, this comment would be way too long if I listed all of the positives about the story that bring potential for an incredible story, especially in the case of the first game when you hire a movie studio to retell the story. It just makes it more tragic that we got a movie of the same quality of The Emoji Movie as a retelling of this story instead. To me, this along with all of the gameplay stuff I complained about is why I think the reboot is a disservice to the original.
Lastly: I haven't played Quest for Booty, and I'm sure its a lot of fun, but I didn't think I was missing out too much since I already played ToD and it seems more like a DLC epilogue rather than a full game. I bet Insomniac only called it a full game so they can use the title "Future Trilogy".

I remember getting Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction for my birthday. Opened the case and found the disk wasn't snapped into place. The game actually worked rather fine while I played it, but the cutscenes became a mess after the first quarter of the game. For each CG cutscene after like the first 3 or 5 of the game, the audio would lose sync with the video and it bugged me because the video would finish and cut to the gameplay before the audio could finish. I don't remember the disk having any scratches though.

Anyhow, then you also have buy ammo with your portable ammo shop thingy.. If you forget any of these things, you will die on like 2 or 3 shots. Regardless of your hp level.

I personally enjoyed all of the R&C games i've played. But the one i mostly enjoyed was Ratchet & Clank 3 and A Crack In Time. And i also enjoyed Gladiator even though it was abit different to the other R&C games. But thats the good thing about it.
