wow that escalated quickly. It's all a lie, that fuel didn't float in that bowl, it just pissed out. Hope rufus is getting better?! Love the comments at the end
Thank you Matt, hah I know I’m starting to wonder if the o-rings were ever in place on the float bowl 👀. Rufus was alright in the end, probably still in shock at watching his asshole dad try to burn the shed down. Much appreciated for the video on your page 👍😎
I too am here thanks to Matt’s recommendation. And your cautionary tale (nearly wrote ‘tail’ lol - thinking of poor Rufus?) about fire safety and getting too focussed on goals (ie. getting the bike to catch & turn over) over safety, which always has to be #1. But it’s easy to say - u actually took ownership of the mistake and posted video anyway. If this’d been Del, we’d have seen the arc then 6 jump cuts, wherein a never-before-seen fire extinguisher appeared, having been hastily bought from local fire-safety shop (🤷). Then there’d be a Del-splained piece to camera about all the burnt number plates actually having become blackened after a sneaky raccoon slipped in, upended a fuel container, simultaneously lighting it due to static in its fur and Del with magic fire extinguisher came to the rescue, but the raccoon sadly passed on after its charred remains were plastered all over a corner of that cavernous MDF palace of his. Oops, slight tangent there but already subscribed, looking forward to more action-packed bike build vids.

At least you didn't have an open 10 litre petrol can right next to the bike, so you know, you could have f'd up worse. Seriously though that was not nice to watch, glad you're okay and that you were in a brick building and not a wooden shed.
Well done on posting the whole think. All my years messing around in the garage, fettling, dripping fuel everywhere when taking tanks off etc and never thought to have fire extinguisher to hand. Keep posting and this gets my vote and subscription. …oh and the purchase of a fire extinguisher.
Great to see you've reached that mile stone buddy, that first 1000 is certainly a discovery of what works and what doesn't. Well done and onto your next milestone.
Glad you are okay. Thanks for posting that! It should remind us all to have a fire extinguisher handy in the garage. Hope that bike build gets going again.
Honestly fair play to you for showing your mistakes, plenty people would have hidden it all away. I did something similar trying to start a 2 stroke moped with the exhaust off in my wooden shed, the exhaust port points down and was spraying fuel out and when it sparked it lit… 🔥. Luckily managed to put it out quickly, but your 100% right a fire extinguisher is a must and will now have one permanently mounted above my workbench. I would’ve shit my pants too when the carbs fell off!
Thanks buddy, I know I hummed and hawed for a while as to whether to release it. Blood hell that sounds terrifying too! My fire extinguisher arrived yesterday 👍
@@remotorcycled Funny thing is it might be a good thing for your channel, i was led here by Dirty Garage Guy who was talking about it, will watch your other vids and have subbed, i'm a fellow Scot in Paisley.
I think a lot of us would have panicked in that situation, could have been a lot worse, i was welding an Escort inner wheel arch years ago, stupidly i was leaning on an old, oil stained carpet, also had draped a curtain over the freshly painted axle, was getting a bit warm under the arch, removed my helmet and the whole lot was blazing, luckily had a bucket of coolant i threw over it, subdued it enough to get the garden hose onto it.
I used my denim jacket to successfully starve a fire of oxygen when my van backfired through the carb as l was trying to diagnose a fueling problem. Luckily only a couple of ign leads were the victims and l still wear the jacket! I went straight out and bought 2 extinguishers, one for the garage and one l keep in the van.
@@remotorcycled yup. She'd could have gone up. Watching the flames whilst you were getting the hose was stressful! Not as much as for you tho I think 🤔
I guess that could have been a lot worse. With the lack of compression I'd check the valves are sealing. If it's been stored for a while you can get corrosion build up on the valve seats. If the heads coming off lap all the valves in and check they are sealing before putting it back on. I'm looking forward to the rest of the build. Good luck and stay safe.
Wow, its really scary how fast fire spreads. Thankfully no one and nothing was really damaged. Your whole shed could have been a blaze when you returned. These are things you don't tell your wife!!

Wow, lucky x2 as putting water on a petrol or oil fire can make things worse, because the fuel can float on the surface and spread. Get a CO2 or powder extinguisher dude, or better still both! Glad you're ok though and thanks for sharing.
its rare we find moments like this on camera, because of how unwilling people are to show their mistakes. glad you're ok and this build will keep on keepin on. I have to ask, how bad were those carbs damaged?
I see that a lot of people talk about having a fire extinguisher which is definitely good advice but to be honest I think this may not have happened if you were using the starter motor cable and proper wiring. The starter motor has a very high current draw and you don't want to be touching jumper cables to it or doing anything that creates a spark anywhere near the carbs. Even if the carbs were not leaking, it's still risky to create sparks near the inlet. Good luck with your project.
Mat said ''take a look at this'' But he never mentiond the realistic flames paint job . That alone was worth a sub . But seriousley it could have been a lot worse Take care ,ride safe .
it happened to me 15 years ago. Preparing a CB 650 ignition for a cb500F. It backfired in the carb and set it on fire.
