Ha - isn't that a bit like "make America great again"? Wasn't it great already? The anglo catholic wing show at least some signs of rude health from where I am standing.
I was baptised in this Church by my Godfather, Fr Graeme Rowlands, who was Fr Philip’s immediate predecessor, and first discovered my calling to Priesthood here.
These wonderful Anglo Catholic and Traditional Catholic churches are fascinating. Father Philip seems a knowledgeable and dedicated priest as well. As a Catholic, I would seriously consider attendance at such a parish were a more traditional Catholic one not available to me.
As a Catholic RC . I attended this church once and foud it had a totally 100% catholic ambience. It was incredibly beautiful with a welcoming congregation. If onlt the anglo catholics and the RCs would unite.
@hereticatious If you ever get the chance to visit Philadelphia in the USA. You should stop by my parish, St. Clements Church! It's one of the most unique Anglo Catholic parishes in North America.
So you forced me to re-watch the video. I mean - if you were right surely I would have noticed the first time...., Wait what? I mean it really does resemble him quite a lot. Could this be like when it said "Duck!" under the wall paper in the fallen angel episode? This has been placed by the BBC for a future story arc?
Would you consider taking a visit to St Cyprian's Clarence Gate? It's got an extraordinary interior and is more of an affirming Anglo-Catholic congregation.
I certainly would - do you know a contact there? If not I'll reach out to them directly. If you are associated with the church my email address is available in the about section of my channel page www.youtube.com/@hereticatious.
There just a surprising amount of first class local artist represented there - each with almost no presence outside of St Silas - but the quality and originality was manifest.
You're going to need to help me here as I didn't know there were options. What is the range of possibility and I'll add it to my list of questions**. ** Yeh - right - like I HAVE a list of questions.
@@hereticatious There are two usual modes. These days the most common is to queue and receive from a stationary minister, but in former times the usual practice was to kneel at the altar rail, and the minister would progress along the rank. The reason I'm asking is that the part of this church where that would usually happen (the low brick wall around the chancel) seems architecturally disinclined to it. There are probably other methods that I don't know about.
Relics on the altar? I don't think even St. Mary the Virgin, a very HIGH church/Anglo-Catholic Episcopal parish in NYC with side chapels and smoke and bells and statues, has ever had those. A bridge way too far for most Anglicans, and as I understand it even optional for RC churches except for the necessary one buried within the altar.
“An Apostolic Blessing from (Pope) John-Paul II?” Since this is an Anglican and not a Catholic church……..how come? Was it acquired under false pretences? Just asking.
Amazing how the high churches have survived the persecution of the church establishment. I hope a miracle may occur and that they may mightily flourish in the future.
Beautiful ! I pray for revival of the Anglo Catholic Church! 🙏

@@hereticatious Excellent 🌞
What a treasure trove of both people and things. Loved it

It's lovely that Fr G is now at the Shrine in Walsingham.
@@DavidMiller.93 only for another few weeks until the new Administrator is licensed, then he can go back into retirement.

I could easily have doubled the video length - there's even more to see in person and Fr Philip is excellent company.

Easily one of the most beautiful pillars of Anglo-Catholic peity I've ever seen. I pray for the preservation of the Parish of St. Slias.
It's genuinely lovely.

Gosh! Such a display. I grew up Catholic but hardly ever saw such a 'High' affair.
Extraordinary Times, Extraordinary Churches ⚜️☦️🙏 Wonderful ❤️
Nice to see you venturing to north London! Some great local residents 😄
They are - they all are. Each and every one of them.
It has great acoustics and is frequently used for recording music. About as ‘high’ as it gets!
It was definitely one of those places where I was highly tempted to break into song.
Slightly worried that the patron saint of parish clergy might be William Hartnell. But maybe that was only from a distance. Loved the Nina Somersets.

The Church is very beautiful
The surroundings are not auspicious - but the inside gets you straight away.
0:16 It gets me every time. 😆
They seem to catch me every single time :-)
The «catholic» tradition of the church of England?
I agree: the banners are pretty fine. a bit Pre-Raphaelite, a bit Art Nouveau
There just a surprising amount of first class local artist represented there - each with almost no presence outside of St Silas - but the quality and originality was manifest.
I'm curious to know how Holy Communion is distributed here, and has been in the past.

@pestoriusj Speaking as the Director of Music, people kneel at the altar rails, and the priest moves along. We even still have houseling cloths.
Pius X. reigned from 1903 until 1914.
Good spot - though Fr Phillips core point was correct (he was in place when the church was consecrated in 1912).

Vatican 2 never reached St Silas!😂
I'd not put that together - funny peculiar :-)
Deo gratias!
Beautiful but the building feels deeply lacking without the one and only Fr Graham. He was the place
Early days....

This is an ANGLICAN church? Shocked
Its a broad church!

I find so much beauty in Anglo Catholicism ( Protestant Church of England ) but I fear it is a lost cause.
I understand why you say this, but let’s pray for a miracle 🙏
