GM purchasing them was the worst thing to have happened to them. Same with Ford buying Volvo. The worst Volvos made were the ones during fords ownership, made cheap as hell yet ford was trying to move them as an upmarket company. Although at least ford had the finances to support Volvo. Even though they are owned by a Chinese company now I am glad they are still here and it appears the new owners are letting them do what they like.
@OSMAN The 9-4X was only sold in the US, so there are more of these in the US than in Sweden. Saab planned to launch it in Europe as well, however it would have remained pretty rare in the whole of Europe, as Saab had ruled out a diesel engine. In Europe, a non-hybrid, gasoline SUV would be almost impossible to sell. Europeans are a lot more concerned with fuel economy than yankees, and CO2-based taxes in many countries would have made the 286 g/km 9-4X almost impossible to sell.
If Saab were still in business, I imagine the 9-4x being a VERY popular car in North America right now with the SUV boom. The 9-3 Aero XWD 2.8T would always remain one of my favorite cars from the final days.
Saab was one of the greatest brands all around the world. Wish Saab could bring back these beauties. We still enjoy our 9-3 Vector Sporthatch which we daily use in the family.
Someone in my hometown once drove a white 9-4x around. It was the only one I ever saw on the road. It only struck me years later that it was one of about 250 sold in the US, making it much rarer than many exotic cars.
I sat in a 9-4X at the dealer while I was getting service. It was an extremely nice vehicle and a great Saab. The final 9-5 was also a stylish, refined vehicle. The brand had a different viewpoint from BMW and Audi. Saabs were built and drove lighter.
I always loved those Saab 9-4x’s and those Cadillac SRX’s. I always found it very weird Saab was disqualified the year after the 9-4x came out because usually cars last more than one model year. My grand parents go to Florida every I believe it was back in 2013 when they flew there. That year they went to Florida they rented a Cadillac SRX and they really liked it and my Grampy told me all about it.
Great video! I still remember the day me and my friend went to a Saab dealership to see the 9-4x in 2011. My friends dad worked there so we had access to basically everywhere. We spent the whole day just looking at Saabs, Jaguars, Subarus and so on. I can vividly remember the moment i saw the car. It was a Aero in Ice Pearl, black interior and it had the same wheels as the one in the video. Great memories.
I remember the one time I saw a Saab 9-4x on the road. We pulled over and I jumped out of the car and took some pictures of it. That was one of the best days ever. 🚗🚙
Its a pity Saab aren't around anymore. This is a beautiful SUV. I had a Cadillac BLS which was based on the Saab 9-3 and it also had that night function on the head unit. Loved the little quirks
PitchTrails Nope, they do not. Some cars have slightly updated versions of the system with new or different features, but otherwise it's the same system. In fact, the version in this 9-4x actually looks to have more features than the version in my mom's Verano.
Kamal Lasenby no one copied anyone. That is a GM wide infotainment system that was used for many years, it is not Saab's creation. In fact this may be the only Saab it ever appeared in.
Saab seemed to have thought of everything while being restricted to a GM platform to make it unique with well thought out features to differ their cars with competing models even on the same platform especially true with the 9-4. I know this lead to their downfall but at the same time they risked that just to differ itself from competitors overall in my opinion this is what made Saab such a great brand.
Beautiful car! Superb, individual, subtle styling trends! You also just have to love how things used to be modern- and sporty-looking back then, without going overboard into the disco styling of the current era.
Another great video!!! It’s very interesting to watch this and see how the perspective on this vehicle had changed a little from your 2011 review when it was brand new. I love these kind of special cars that not many people realize are so special. Keep up the good work Kyle!!
@@jacobfleming565 Yes, one could argue that they saved them from going down in the 90s, but in my opinion they were a very wrong buyer. Yes they saved saab but they kind of ruined it also. GM was only seeing saab as a potential to make fast money and not the value of it. So they started making saab do cheaper and cheaper csrs with cheaper parts and cost reductions with every year that went. Saab always fought it though and had a whole other picture in their mind. They wanted to do high quality cars that were durable and engineered right which costs money. So with every car they sold it was costing them more money than gm had anticipated. In the end gm gave up as it wasn't making a good profit out of saab and it was one of the big reasons why Saab went bankrupt in 2011.
Had the 9-4X been released one or two years prior, Saab night still be making Cars. It’s sad they aren’t around anymore, because I think they made some of the best looking cars that didn’t cost a fortune.
The irony when they realise that despite the fact that he’s featured Bugattis, Ferraris and even a Lamborghini Reventon that this is hideous suv is one of the most exotic cars he’s ever featured (FYI I love Saabs though)
I really enjoyed this! There is not nearly enough content on the 9-4x. I can't help but to think what if Saab had still been in business. They experimented with electric vehicles in the early 2000's. I truly believe they could have been competing with Tesla if GM hadn't shut down their electric programs and then the entire company. The new generation 9-5 and the 9-4x with electric drivetrain would have had been great. I personally would want an electric 9-4x
You could really say the SRX is based on the 9-4x really. They finalized the platform designs and designed them for GM. Even though the SRX came out a year earlier, the prototype 9-4x's predated the SRX.
Saab would've made a comeback with this SUV. The market for crossovers and suvs in 2014 would've saved the brand. To bad the company couldn't last that long. They could've created a revolutionary car to bring back the brand as well.
Carlos Sandoval on the first gen it had the v6 early in it's life cycle but then it became the 4 only. On the second gen that came out right before Saab folded it got the same v6 as the car in the video
I think, I might use it to transfer my fridge. Thanx for a brilliant review. It is 2019 and I want this car so badly anyway... So many awesome features that modern cars don't have. Wha about spare parts? That is really a piece of carbuilding art.
Yeah I remember seeing a Subaru-esque Saab in the office USA, the 9-2X. it'd be great to see a 9-2X and a 9-7X in future videos. I hope to see this from you Kyle
InForTheWin32 Back in the day, I didn’t do reviews, I did tours. If you look at my activity over the last couple of weeks, including my update video, you would see that I will start doing yours again. They will be in addition to the reviews. I work very hard on these videos.
Nice car Kyle I really enjoyed watching this video keep up the great work looking forward to your content in the new year happy new year to you and your family how’s grandpa doing?
Yeah you said it. Only in China. Buick closed it's showrooms in most European countries and the whole middle east and it's not doing so great in the US. Plus it is considered a luxury car in China because of the government taxes. A 2018 Buick costs somewhere around 350-400 thousand dollars in China...
there is far too much GM influence/parts sharing with this car. its such a shame that they couldn't allow saab to flourish. miss those beautifully unique cars they used to produce. i guess the financial crisis really took its toll.
GM was trying to sell off Saab as well, there was just a huge disagreement between GM and the buyer that resulted in the brands demise until NEVS picked up the ashes to make a low volume EV company. cause for the 9-4, if i remember right it went into production during the sale period, but the disagreements were already starting, with GM threatening every day to cancel the production, until they eventually did, leaving Saab to die.
As there would be. I cant think of any company that owns several other brands that doesnt part share. Hell some are worse like putting 14 year old cruise control stalks found in a 04 economy car into a 85k flagship suv
Hi Kyle, it has been a while since I commented on one of your videos. I had asked you if you reccomended Saabs for being reliable/good cars. You said it wasn't the best idea to buy one because of parts availability. I found a compromise and am now the proud owner of a Saab 92x which is a rebadged Subaru Impreza. I really would like to see you review one because your videos have all the technical information that I want to know and answers various questions about different vehicles. I appreciate that you are active on youtube and reply to questions and comments. Keep up the great work.
Harkin Labs Gaming Congratulations buddy, that’s awesome! If you were close to North Carolina I could film yours! 😁 I’d like to film one of those someday 👍🏻👍🏻
Saabkyle04 you probably wouldn't want to film mine because it isn't cosmetically in the greatest condition. Anyways good luck finding one to review. I really like strange or oddball cars, so the recent changes to the channel are amazing. Are you planning on doing any more videos with your family's dealership?
This is the Saab 9-4x Aero model. A SUV known as a AWD SUV for the driver is getting a lot adhesive. Under the luxury class Leglisation or Not much features inside.
I'm surprised at how good it still looks today. For a discontinued brand their cars still look relatively new.
Well I imagine it's been pretty well kept, since it is rare and Saab went under not very long after this car was produced.
It's not even that old
Lukas it’s now 7 years old lol
All their cars hold value but not really they're cheap but with good quality
@@matthewreed1078 still holds up and looks new!
This could pass as a brand new car in 2018
MEOW MEOW it basically is, it's a rare car, even having 33k on the clock
MEOW MEOW Yes I agree and if I ever needed a X/over-SUV, this would be my first choice.
in 2019, too
If it was sold in 2019 it would be more at a $35k price point even with the maxed out model
Looks better than Kia and Nissan brand new cars
I miss Saab R.I.P :(
The hunter He died?
Noooooooooooo
InForTheWin32 what? I siad R.I.P to Saab?
The hunter saabkyle..
The hunter just kidding lol
I love watching these more "normal" and quirky everyday cars rather than super and performance cars
This could potentially be my favourite crossover and the only I would buy. Saab really did not deserve to die.
Such a rare vehicle!
yea I never saw it
@OSMAN These cars are quite rare to find for sale even here in Sweden. But there are a few out there!
@OSMAN The 9-4X was only sold in the US, so there are more of these in the US than in Sweden. Saw one today in Högdalen, Stockholm :)
Design both exterior and interior have aged well
drspong agree with you on that. I think it looks nice.
Interior is cheap GM plastic on the dash and door panels.
If Saab were still in business, I imagine the 9-4x being a VERY popular car in North America right now with the SUV boom. The 9-3 Aero XWD 2.8T would always remain one of my favorite cars from the final days.

DAMN! Thank you very much for this SAAB 9-4X review! I was waiting for it for a long time! HUGE RESPECT TO YOU! That's the best 2017 Ending video!
aQuaLight111 he made a video on the 9-4x in 2011 look it up but I'm happy like a little girl he made a new one 😁
Still a great looking cars after all these years. I do miss Saab.
I saw one of these on the highway and just about snapped my neck watching it go by. I hadn’t even known they existed before that.
This car was so ahead of its time. It could be sold in 2018 without any changes and still wouldn't be out of place. Aged so well.
Kyle, thank you SOOOO much for bringing back your old style of videos. I love that you’re reviewing older cars and not just new cars!!!!
Gunnar DeRoss Me too! 😁 It’s so much more fun 🙌🏻
Someone in my hometown once drove a white 9-4x around. It was the only one I ever saw on the road. It only struck me years later that it was one of about 250 sold in the US, making it much rarer than many exotic cars.
I live in Greece and this car never came over here. Im still in love with it and if i ever find it im sure gonna buy it no matter what

This video is honestly the highest quality car review I’ve seen in a while. This is basically motor week quality content
I've seen a few on the road since 2011. Still wish that 9-5 Wagon came out. A few people are driving around in registered pre-production examples.
The bezel-less display keeps the interior modern. More manufacturers need to cover up bezels.
I always loved those Saab 9-4x’s and those Cadillac SRX’s. I always found it very weird Saab was disqualified the year after the 9-4x came out because usually cars last more than one model year. The funniest part of this video is when I noticed that my mom's 2017 Buick Verano has the same infotainment system as this. Oh GM...
PitchTrails I don't understand what you're questioning?
PitchTrails Nope, they do not. Some cars have slightly updated versions of the system with new or different features, but otherwise it's the same system. In fact, the version in this 9-4x actually looks to have more features than the version in my mom's Verano.
More like oh Buick as Buick must of copied SAAB. Because you said 2017 Buick Verano. Saab went bust way before 2017.
Kamal Lasenby no one copied anyone. That is a GM wide infotainment system that was used for many years, it is not Saab's creation. In fact this may be the only Saab it ever appeared in.
While Saab didn't design this one the GM headunit prior to this was a Saab design.
I like brands that at least try to make something diferent
I love SAAB I like them so much I bought one last year. A mint 99 turbo, the brand is so amazing and quirky.

This has a timeless design

I never noticed the door shapes before. Specifically the front, that sharp angle. Yeah that’s a nice car.
Long live the SABB... before GM it was a remarkable automobile engineering. Happy New Year 2018, and thank you for a year of fantastic videos.🎉🎇
Hello, I'm E L M E R Thank you for all of your support! Next year will be the best yet! 😁
You do realize that the 9-4x has the same platform as the Cadillac SRX, right? Sooo...
bigvirgotube he mentions that in the vid

Marcus Hogan Thanks so much for your support!! Have a happy new year!!

Wow that is a very nice Saab it is crazy how Saab’s went out I could see them making amazing vehicles

What a way to end 2017! A rare and nice Saab! Happy New year!
loved the short version of the review, bring this style back!
I want one but I can't afford it. But I won't write a Saab story...
Hamilton Dashcammer 😂🤙🏻

Happy NEW Year!!!!!!👍🙂
its not new year it on the 1st december
pav singh no it's New year
David Car show

That car looks soo awesome I only wish for Saab to return back again
There is a company called NEVS and they made an electric version of the Saab 9-3 but they are only sold in Sweden and China
One of the most beautifulest cars never usually seen that much 😞

I was going to say that sounded like a GM V6 motor on startup. I didn't realise GM owned Saab at one point.
Happy new year to Kyle and his family and people that watch his videos
Great job Kyle, knocked it out of the park!
Happy New Year SaabKyle04!
Great filming this year! Rock on Sabbkyle04!
I use to remember you did a 9-4X premium back in 2011
Glenn chang Yep! That was awesome 👏🏻
Saabkyle04 hey true....still very cool review...and see if you can find a 9-5 from 2011 or early 2000's those are my favorite
Saabkyle04 you only received the 9-5 of the first gen with the 2.3 i4 or you also got the 3.0 v6 as well for the north american market?
Carlos Sandoval on the first gen it had the v6 early in it's life cycle but then it became the 4 only. On the second gen that came out right before Saab folded it got the same v6 as the car in the video
Gosh do I wish Saab still existed. Definitely the coolest and best car company. Awesome video for ending 2017
NEVS is keeping Saab alive by making an electric version of the 9-3 (but it is only sold in Sweden and China)
Saab had some nice looking cars and SUVs. That 9-4x would be relevant today if it was being made right now.
Well done Kyle, Doing rare vehicles is definitely your niche!!! This was really a good review for a vehicle I had no idea about.
Backyard production Thanks pal! Glad you enjoyed it!!
Happy New Year, Kyle! I’m very excited to see what comes in the future.
Omg my 2018 is my 6th year of watching you ur so talented and I love ur reviews ❤️❤️
HAPPY NEW YEARS!!!!!
I want one of these so badly. Great review!
hey kyle thanks for still doing videos like this!
Hey everyone how's it goin!? Happy new year Kyle! And I look forward to watching more of your "Old Style" videos. Stick to what made you successful!
Bobby P More coming soon 😁👍🏻 It’s going to be a big focus of 2018!
I just saw this car in my neighborhood. Thought it was a new SAAB model. It really catched my eye
I think, I might use it to transfer my fridge. Thanx for a brilliant review. It is 2019 and I want this car so badly anyway... So many awesome features that modern cars don't have. Wha about spare parts? That is really a piece of carbuilding art.
Happy new year! Also since you did the rare saab 9-4x aero, you should do a review on the Saturn sky redline or Pontiac solstice gxp.
Yeah I remember seeing a Subaru-esque Saab in the office USA, the 9-2X. it'd be great to see a 9-2X and a 9-7X in future videos. I hope to see this from you Kyle
You need to start doing reviews like you did back in 2011-2012 those were the best days

Matt Lyvers Thank you Matt, I really appreciate it!!

EDS Motor Company happy new year
EDS Motor Company you too
The 9-7x also had a Saab designed, specific and exclusive suspension.
I just sat through a non-skippable 2 minute Porsche ad. I've never seen an ad like that before lol.
Connor James 2 minutes? Good gosh haha 🤣
Saabkyle04 could you review a 2008 Honda Accord coupe v6 6 speed or 5 speed
that's why I get youtube red
Bring back Hummer SAAB and Pontiac! Buick should go out of business tbh.
I heard they will bring back Pontiac in 2018

kris200998 what about Plymouth cars
kris200998 ok
The 9-4x is the only crossover I'd actually like to have, only because it's Saab and it's rare.
its funny my auntie had one and she loved it!! now she owns a ford escape but she told me nothing will ever drive like the 9-4X
That's what happens when you go from GM, I mean Saab to Ford.
JonnyTheKin6 got wrecked ps she likes ford
jim_iddy_kriket GM is not that good, the Saab broke down a lot in the end
This was such a cool suv and I remember waiting for it to come out.

Great Review Man. This was a sweet vehicle that seems much nicer than the 2nd gen SRX.
Love the shorter review style! Thanks for the rare find. I remember when you videoed one new.
I had no idea these existed. I also had no idea there was essentially a Saab-version of the Trailblazer SS.

Heey Kyle, Happy New Year, in new year have lots new subscribers😉
I really love this new video format!
I know it’s basically just a Cadillac SRX but I want one of these so much. I think the SAAB is much better looking.
this car is so cool! I love it!!
This car would do great now if it was on the market, due to the demand for crossovers and SUV’s!!!
Happy new year Kyle!
Happy New Year SaabKyle and EVERYONE!! Minutes left before 2018 here
Love the Saab videos! One I would recommend is the SAAB 9000!
Saab all day👍
Nice to see Saabs in TH-cam
This car is freaking sweet.
Happy new year Kyle
LOVE this car. Great video, thanks.

i needed a SAAB engine sound effect for a project, this provided me with one!
