I thought everyone loved old Saabs! I much prefer the older models. I just wish there had been at least one vehicle listed that wasn't chosen play someone with high testosterone, LOL. I left song from the comfort the handling, and the wonderfully unique look. The newer ones remind me of a sub Ford crossbreed, blaaah.
Ten Saabs in one video -- fantastic! Yesterday I picked up my '03 9-5 Aero in Palm Beach and drove back to St. Petersburg on some 2-lane state highways. Gotta love the turbo passing power from 50-80 mph. Nothing short of thrilling, even if it's an auto tranny. One nitpick for later model Saabs under GM: they killed off the hatchbacks, which weren't popular in the U.S. Thanks for your inspiration in keeping these magnificent machines alive and appreciated.
@@AutoAutopsy should've done a top 11, the 9-5 Sportcombi v the 9000, less than 50 v 500k ish. I am a bit biased but have an OG 9-3 Aero, OG 9-5 Aero and a 9000 Aero, for me it's the set. I enjoy your vids but have only started watching this year. Cheers from Australia.
wheres the 9000 Aero? the 2,3L in the 9000 models could handle alot higher powernumbers than the later saabs could due to GM shortening the distance between the cylinders after they bought saab. the 9000 was the last ''real saab saab'' as i call it. my father worked at saab for 20years
Marc Scordato, Yes! 9000 Talladega and the Viggen are pretty close on my list. And the late 9000 aero beats the 9-5 aero any time. Also, the Somett II with the the 3 cyl 2-stroke sounds amazing, especially if you live up north and are familiar with snowmobiles. The 3cyl 2 strokes from Yamaha and ski-doo are to die for.
Over 25 years I owned (6) SAABS - my favorite was the 1997 Anniversary 9000 - an amazing car ! A great ride - gas mileage - styling and could carry a sofa in the hatch !!
I moved my entire apartment with my 96 aero. Even fit the fridge in it. Damn I miss that car, I mean what other car can you move a refrigerator in and do a 12 sec 1/4 mi in with minor modifications??
The boot/trunk on the 9000 hatch is bigger than it is on the 9-5 estate/combi! I checked once! A 9000 Anniversary FPT is a very very nice car, especially in the special purple they did for that year
I’m on my 7th and my favourite is my 1987 900 T8, black 2 door with sports seats. Absolutely incredible amazing car! After that it’s my 2.3FPT 9000 Le Mans Blue with grey leather, full clarion hi-fi, extra dials, which I had for 60k miles and cried when I sold it
Just want to say thank you for your continued enthusiasm for this car brand. I'm Europe based and here in the UK the options are a bit wider but we did not see the 94x for example as far as i'm , aware. My current Saab, a 93 Aero MY 2003,(i believe you have one), is my 4th Saab and I'm always shopping. A great car brand shame its gone. Keep up the good work my friend
Thanks AA!!! Love that I'm seeing so many knowledgeable young car guys who love Saabs. I finished grad school in 1986 and bought a used slate blue metallic Saab Turbo....OMG I F-Ing LOVED that car! it made a sound when the turbo kicked in in 1st and 2nd gears that was a distinct "ZIIIING!" You make me SO want to buy one and work on it....EJM
I have a 1972 Saab 96 V4. Without these cars there wouldn't have been the later cars. Saab 96 made history in rallying. Definitely should have been in the top 10.
Nice video. I wish had seen your original request for favorite Saabs. My age will show, but my favorite Saabs are the GT 750 from the late 1950s, the GT 850 from the early 1960s, the 1965 Monte Carlo named in honor of Erik Carlsson's win in the 1963 Monte Carlo Rally, the 99 EMS which was the sportiest 99 prior to the Turbo, and any of the various versions of the Sonett. In my life, I have been lucky enough to own and drive most of these. I have to say that there is nothing that equals the sound of a rally prepared two stroke Saab echoing through the woods . Now that I found your TH-cam channel, I will be back. Keep up the good work. Dewey Foulk
Great overview of the 10 best Saab's. I have seen several last production 9-5 saloons and think it's stunning and so classy. They really are special cars :-)
Awesome video man. Very informative to me! 👍🔥💪 Keep it up. I just got my own 1992 SAAB 900 Turbo Vert... Blown motor but I'm bringing it back alive. 40 year old here.
We had a '77 99gle growing up. Dad put a turbo on it, ported the head, lower compression pistons, added water injection and ran 12psi boost. And this was back in the 80's! When that thing hit second gear it would scare you. Been a Saab fan ever since. :)
Never thought I'd own a Saab until I looked close at a 2005 Aero convertable. Few cars come close to how stylish the interior is. I've had it 5 years with no regrets. It is fantastic to drive.
@@AutoAutopsy I don't either. Awful lot of "urban legends" about the prodigiousness of the Viggen floating around, IMO. Really nice car - but as they say in the hood (or used to), "They ain't all THAT."
1991 9000 turbo. Try to find one. 1991 specifically because it was the 1st year of the 2.3 and the only year that the 2.3 didn't have a electronic throttle body. I had a Swedish Dynamics built '91 9k. I cry a little every time I think of it.
Thank you for the list. I miss the original 900 convertible though. The 9-5 Hatchback is a beauty. I have a 1.43 model in my office. So sad it never made it to the street.
Sir you mentioned the 1999 to 2002 Saab Viggen in 2 door and 4 door. Very good but you left out the Saab Viggen 2 door convertible. This is worth mentioning because its not only a 2 door but a significant difference is the convertible top. Those are even more rare. I know this because I own a 2000 Saab Viggen Convertible and is/was a very limited production. For example mine is one of only 232 made in Silver. Even fewer were imported to the USA. So I am very proud and aware of this unique automobile. Still running strong, limiting my driving but it is run and driven at least once per week. Current mileage around 79,000 miles. Its very fast and surprises many sports cars that pull up next to you at a stop might for 2 reasons...1 most people think oh its just a Saab, and 2. They think oh its just a convertible.
Why do you think this should be ridiculed? The 93/95/96 are actually quite good to drive. The weight distribution at the 93/96 two-stroke is absolutely perfect (the V4 models suffered from slight oversteer). In my opinion, the Saab 96 (especially the post-1965 models) are actually the most beautiful Saabs ever made. And don't you agree that the two-stroke cars are the coolest Saabs ever? The 96 should definitely be included in this list.
HateIronMaiden I'm not ridiculing. I'm only having a lil fun, and at the same time helping my buddies video. Comments help videos get promoted on TH-cam. I only recently learned that Saab ever made a 2 stroke, and I do think it's cool. I'm a big 2 stroke fan from my dirt bike days.
Great Video, enjoyed it very much! I have a 1998 900SE Turbo Convertible which I bought used in 2005 and now have 179,000+ miles on it and still love driving it. It has the original Cosmic Blue Metallic exterior, the only one I've seen in that color and is a real eye catcher. It has a 5 speed manual and handles like a real sports car on the backroads here in SW CT. My other 2 cars are rare Jags but I enjoy driving my Saab the best. Paint job has held up unbelievably and when it gets polished, the car looks new.
Nice video but one thing i have to correct becaus i drive a 2001 9-3 aero i have to say that the viggen was not called aero in the EU, they are 2 different cars (or variants of one car) the viggen has the 2.3l engine and the aero has an 2.0l engine witch produce 205hp, on the later models (2000 or 2001 to 2003) of the first generation aero it got the bumpers from the viggen so it looks nearly the same (the aero has aero written on the side an back the viggen has the viggen logo on the side) at least in germany is it so.
Thanks for making the 10 best Saabs video. I own 3 9-4xs, one 2011 9-3 and a 2011 9-5. If you are ever in the Los Angeles Area and want to review my 9-4xs, I would be honored. You featured two of them in your video. I have 132,000 on one of them and I have never had an issue. Only changed tires, brakes and two window regulators.
How can you even begin to talk Saab’s greatest and like top gear not even in passing mention the 96 . Some figures = production run 20 yrs = multi Monte Carlo winners = multi rac winners = multi i don’t know how many other winners . Remember in those days the cars had a real DNA with the road car unlike today’s Transformers . So beating the likes of Porsche etc was ASTOUNDING ! I bought my 45 yr old 96 7 yrs ago useing it every day and I have in that time covered 64000mls = it does 40 mpg on a steady run. The metal is amazingly rust resistant ---And you can work on it yourself . So maybe just a tiny mention in future .
WHAT ?? Viggen means thunderbolt ?? what idiot told you that ?? :P I am swedish and Viggen is the singular form of Vigg which is a bird: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tufted_duck So basically Viggen just means "THE tufted duck"... FYI thunderbolt in swedish is blixt.
+Rax0r_Gaming That's probably why they picked it though, I mean how many of us Swedes do you hear saying "aeroplan" (as in Svenska Aeroplan AktieBolag) instead of "flygplan"? Also, if you look at them long enough, the Viggen emblem has some similarities with the warning sign for high voltage (black triangle on yellow with a zigzag lightning symbol). It's hardly a perfect match, but the more I look at them side by side the more I see how they could've used it as a starting point.
The Saab cars "Viggen" almost certainly comes from the Saab AB fighter jet "37 Viggen". If you look at that planes silhouette from above i think you find a much more likely "parent" to the 9-3 Viggen's emblem. Saab was trying to play the "jet fighter manufacturer card" to it's fullest and naming a special version of the 9-3 after a fighter jet produced since the 70's would be the logical choice. As for the source of the name itself we will never know as long as we don't manage to find the guy who actually named the viggen fighter in the late 60's. Saab used the name "Griffin" that is the english version of "Gripen" so they have used the names of mythological creatures before. But when reading about "åskviggen" in swedish it seems to be about stones in norse mythology and i don't think they would name their planes after stones supposedly being hammered into the ground when lightning strikes.... They've had enough planes do that without naming them for it :P
I owned 7 Saabs. a 1965 95 station wagon with the DKW 3 cylinder two stroke engine: a 1968 96 Deluxe sedan with the Ford Motor Company V4 engine: a 1973 Saab 99E with the 4 cylinder 1/2 of a Triumph Stag V8; a 1970 Saab 96 V4:: a 1977 Saab 99 E with the 4 cylinder 1/2 of a Triumph Stag V8; a 1986 Saab 900, a base model on which I replaced the steel wheels with Turbo alloy wheels; the stock shocks with Boges; the stock exhaust with a tuned exhaust and header; the stock clutch plate with a turbo clutch plate; the stock power steering rack with an aftermarket rack built by a group of former Delco engineers who copied the stock GM rack but with higher quality materials (the car tracked noticeably better with that rack;) the stock serpentine belt with one used in racing snowmobiles (the belt was quieter, and never squealed). The stock one squealed when tightened within specs; and I ran hard to find Michelin MXM tires made in Germany. All on the advice of my Saab Technician Tom Hayden Junior, the son of Tom Hayden, western Oregon's master Saab mechanic in the 1970's. At the time I owned my Saabs, from 1967 through 2011, those two guys knew more about Saabs than anyone else in Oregon. The last Saab I owned was a 1997 well maintained Saab 9000 Aero that I bought in 2000 with only 21,000 miles, all records, and frequent oil changes by the previous owner. I had three favorites. The 1968 96 Deluxe V4 because there were so few on the road. And because it came with a tachometer, radial tires, full hubcaps and two strips of chrome along the side. Those were extras not on the 96 V4. The 1986 Saab 900 was another favorite because I had so much fun making it a much better car with all of the inconspicuous but significant modifications that I made to it, for the most part with stock parts. The Saab 9000 Aero was my other favorite Saab, for all the reasons in my response below to another commenter. And because it brought Saab into the modern world in ways that were very noticeable over the 900. And because it was so fast, quiet, and steered and handled so well. And swallowed most of the gear of a rock and roll band.
No 4 on the list for me - Respect and great video. Had 2 Classic Saab 900 Turbos (SPG/Aero) the last one being the final UK production run of it - the "Ruby Edition". Can no longer drive due to medical condition but still want to own a SAAB 900 again. When I see a 900 Turbo on the road I always give the driver a big thumbs up and feel the love for it. Hopefully one day can get one again and have my wife or one of my kids drive it for me
Minor corrections: On the Saab 900 'SPG'.In Europe, there were a handful of 8-Valve models dressed with the Aero bodykit from the factory and they came with 140bhp.What you show in your video and refer to is the 16 valve engined version. In Europe is was actually called the 'T16S-Aero' and only came in the three door hatch version. It came from the factory with 175bhp, not 160.If you purchased the UK-only 'Carlsson' version it came with 185bhp controlled by the specific red coloured APC box.In the 1992/93 'Ruby' commerorative run-out version, they came with standard 185bhp, but no body kit. There were also European Light Pressure turbo versions, latterly badged as the 900-S with 150bhp.There were also a few 2 door versions with the airflow body kit fitted, but were more likely to be the 8V engine - the 16V versions were few and far between. One of the most interesting Saab ranges was from Saab Wimbledon, near London. These were the the biggest dealers in the UK and, I understand, Europe, and because of that had enormous leeway with the factory. S-W had authority to apply all sorts of unique decals and detailing to the cars - and were authorised to sell special 'Sport' and 'Executive' vehicles versions that could not be purchased elsewhere. Chances were if you saw one that had a bunch of unique build elements, it was a 'Saab Wimbledon' car.On the 9-3 Viggen, in Europe, it was always the Viggen, never the Aero, and sales to Europe ended in 2000, though there may have been a few leftover stock items registered in 2001. Sales of the Viggen continued in the USA, thought they weren't available in Europe, until the model was discontinued. All you Viggen drivers should thank the Abbott Racing team in the UK for creating the Viggen rescue kit, otherwise they would have continued to be as undriveable today as they were when they rolled out of the factory... see the following articlewww.abbottsaab.com/the-viggen-story/YOne of the gems you missed out is the very limited run 900 T16S Aero Covertible - 1991 Monte Carlo Yellow - fondly known as the 'Bumble Bee'. That is one of the most eye-catching Saabs ever and highly sought after.I'll leave the Carlsson range for another, future comment.Keep your Saab alive - it was designed to keep you alive when you needed it most!
@@AutoAutopsy Ah, the throttling of performance due to US emission controls I expect, or maybe Saab thought the American audience couldn't handle all that torque steer...LoL… TH-cam is a Global phenomenon and I guess if the Europeans won't make an equivalent video, I guess we have to take it on the chin. But it's worth seeing the whole picture, so anyone looking is aware that with a bit of Euro 'magic', you would get more stock power out of that engine depending on the market. We didn't get the 2.1 engine in the UK for example... Now, you could also open up the APC box and start making minor adjustments to the three potentiometers to add to boost and knock sensing to get a wee bit more poke as well. But you had to be brave....
I drive a Saab 9000 2.3t A50, and i’ve tested some og9-5s and some 9-3s (both og and ng) and i must say that my own little monster (the 9000) from -97 is the most reliable and simply timelessly good looking saab ever made. It’s also before the GM era and has a chassi that’s also fitet in some cars from the Fiat concern. The driving joy either if you’re late to work or just want to take a cruise with your friends it will always start, always preform and will always bring joy. :)
the reason why the 9-2x reached this list, is because just like Saab, subaru has a history of being quirky, cool and idiosynchratic and while GM was strangling saab, misusing it completely, Subaru gained the name Saab once had, of being a cool carbrand that thinks outside of the box.
I have owned many Saabs in the past, but not one of them compared to my 1988 SPG. There was something special about waking up and taking a road trip in the SPG.
Mate, where is the 9000 Aero, yes its a compromise of an Italian platform, but its a true SAAB as they completely redesigned the platform with virtually nothing interchangeable with the Alfa and Fiat! Talking of 9-3 & 9-5, they are basically a GM Vauxhall/Opel variant, but that was not mentioned. Yes a lot of interesting models were featured, but to leave out the 9000 I think is a sin!
I totally agree with almost everything. But the 9-5 sport wagon from 2011 is according to me, the most beautiful, normal everyday car, ever made. I still have my 9-5 aero from 2001. And it works like a clock. If you take care of it. Thanks a lot for you passion and your enthusiasm. Stay safe and cheers from the other pond of the Atlantic.
I used to own a Saab Sonnet III. The three-on-the-tree took a little getting used to (after having two Hurst GTOs), but the thing flew. With that light body and front-wheel drive it handled very well. I currently own a 1997 900s which is a naturally aspirated, fuel-injected V6 with four overhead cams and 24 valves. Road and track said it will "Easily go 150 M.P.H.". While I haven't gone that fast I can attest that she is no slouch in the speed department. And she takes 87 octane gas. Although the 18.3 M.P.G. on the highway is nothing to brag about. Parts are ridiculously hard to get and outrageously expensive. For example, the last power steering hose set me back $372.50. My mechanic told me to get another Mercedes. "It would be cheaper". LOL
The regular 900 Turbo was the one with around 160 hp, the spg was beefed up to 185, although the c900 is my personal fav, I think this list was in good order!!
Auto Autopsy just looked it up on saabhistory.com, it was 160 until 1987 when it was bumped up to 165, then in 1990 the US SPG made 175, so I was wrong, oh well! Stupid US regulations!!
Hello. Nice list! I’m a swedish ex Saab mechanic. I totally love Saab. I have a 900 T16 5-door -92. Full pressure. With all the options avilable at the time. Exept for sunroof. It’s my favorite model. I actually prefer 5d before 3d. I like thouse short doors.
Come here tog Sweden if you enat to ser saabs everywhere, event those rare ones quite often. We really miss 'em here in sweden where they Always we're loved and one of the best selling brands.
i am in the process of servicing my Saab thought i'd buy the parts online most parts were spot on and then there was other parts that just didn't cut the mustard! you really know you stuff on Saabs!
9-5 is a great platform to mod. Gotta say though the 1999 9-3 and older with B204 engine was easily capable of 500-600 whp with Stock internals. So 2dr hatch with that can be very quick.
Few things i would like to mention. The turbox has a stronger gearbox therefore the usual boost limiter in 1st and second gear is removed. The first pictures of saab 900 are not spg, the boxy bodykit was for carlsson models. And the facelifted 9-3 had aero models both with 2.0 and 2.8 engines once again. Also if i am not mistaken, besides visual appearance, saab actually did make 9-2x a better subaru than the original. Overall a good video, maybe you could make one about saabs accomplishments, they did do good in rally, there is some info on saab in le mans races, they made some safety features, one of the first turbocharged cars, etc...
As a proud Saab owner I like the comments below. Looks like Saab enthusiasts have a bit of Italian blood flowing through their Body: passion! WHAT, SAAB owners!!???? YES😱👍
This Saab thing is sort of like the obsession that the guy had in the movie Crazy People. If you haven't seen it you should. It was made in 1990 so it will involve older models.
I owned a Saab 96 witth v4 engine and a 1970 Model 99 and 1972 Model 99 with 1.8L fuel injected motor. The '72 Model 99 was a great car that we drove for over 220,000 miles with almost no problems. The clutch was hydraulic actualed with master & slave cylinders for some reason the slave cylinder would start leaking and require rebuilding which I got very good at. I pulled the engine myself once because the harmonic balancer rubber bushing wore out and began to slip which caused the alternator and air conditioner to not rotate properly. I used the roof rafters of the garage and a fence come-along to pull the motor to get to the balancer since the 4 cyl engine was backwards to most engines with the clutch/flywheel up front next to the radiator. It was fairly easy, I had the engine pulled in a couple of hours, replaced the balancer pulley and dropped the motor back in the same afternoon. The engine/transaxle was all one unit and easy to remove. The hood came off with 2 bolts and the radiator/grille came out as one unit so it was the quickest engine transmission removal of any water cooled motor/transaxle that I ever worked on.
As the other guys have already mentioned, the 9000 Aero should have been very close to the top of that list. Saab handled us one of those to test drive and it was nothing short of spectacular. Pure power and handling.
saab is like finding the love you can't find. If you like to fight for your love. how special and unshared a woman who says yes to everything and does not cause trouble would be
I have had several Saabs, within the top 10 list there should have been a convertible! I just bought a 9-3 Aero Classic convertible 2001, one of the best Saabs i ever had.... the best was a 9-5Aero 2005... But a convertible definitely should have been in the list!
Also think that the mark 1 Sonnet should get a mention. It is a really pretty car that was designed as a pure rally thoroughbred to win on the Swedish circuits. Sleek fibreglass body, an idea that was taken from the aerospace division to save weight and make it as light as possible. Only 6 were made before the rally rules changed to allow modified cars based on a stock model, so SAAB used the 93 instead.
I have had two SAABs. An '03 9-3 Linear with Launch Package that had 200k miles, and the timing chain went. I sold it for parts. It was replaced by a 1999 9-3 SE. That was traded in for a Mercedes SLK. I loved both SAABs, but, I have gone back to Mercedes. I have the aforementioned SLK, and an S class. Both have been rock solid and dead reliable, which, I honestly, cannot say about my SAABs. Yes, they (almost) always started, but, they always needed something. I do, however, always gawk whenever I see a SAAB drive by.
My friend has NG 9-5 Sport Combi Aero. It's an absolute unicorn and one of the most beautiful car I have seen. :) He also has large collection of Saabs.
I have a 9_3 turbo and I love this car, can put boy racers to shame 60 _ 100 mph, would love to have a Viggen! It is rusting round rear wheel arches but I still love its cornering ability on tight roads.
This is a good list of recent Saabs, but I was waiting for you to feature the SAAB 96 and the Sonnet. How did they not make the list? Without the 96 the rest may not have ever been produced.
The 9-4X was produced in GM Ramos Arizpe Coahuila plant, I Saw the suv in the production line 2011 year..amazing but the plant manager didnt allow to take pics..
Great video! Where are the 900 Red Arrow and Silver Arrow on this list? And the Sonett and 9000 Aero should be in there too like mentioned in the comments before. Well maybe a top 10 list is just hard to make in this case haha.
Though i love old Saabs but the last wagon style Saab got me! Its style, shape is just gorgeous! Other than that i loved the Saab 99 Turbos headlight wipers, it makes this Saab uniquely special!! My fav is '61 Saab 96 and the above mentioned Saab 99 Turbos with wiper headlights..not to forget Saab Sonett has one of the sexiest wooden dash with some awesome racey gauges!
Love your videos and really appreciate if the know of the saab and the love you have for this iconic vehicle!! Please 🙏 keep up with the amazing news on anything SAAB 🙏 😢 ❤️
Thank you for putting this list together. I agree the top 3 are fast and super cool, I feel this list plainly shows the demographic of who digests Instagram. NG is a GM watered down version of SAAB, granted the folks at SAAB tried their best to keep GM out of the desigh and manufacturing process, and did the best they could given the limited resources GM provided.
There's still a lot of older Saabs on IG too; but on instagram or not, there are far more newer saabs on the road than pre-GM ones. That's just the truth of it. All are still cool in my book!
I miss Saab so much . Today nobody makes Car that are so unique and distinctive . I’d love a mid 80’s SPG.

wheres the 9000 Aero? the 2,3L in the 9000 models could handle alot higher powernumbers than the later saabs could due to GM shortening the distance between the cylinders after they bought saab. the 9000 was the last ''real saab saab'' as i call it. my father worked at saab for 20years
Yep, the 9000 was one that barely missed the list!
Auto Autopsy> WTF? 3 shit station wagons and a Subaru yet NOT ONE SINGLE SAAB 9000??? Have you all gone mad? Please delete this video.
No Saab 9000 :'(
Yep, narrowly missed the list!
hell no, the chevrolet 9-4x and subaru 9-2x rebadges made the list of "Best "Saabs" of All Time and not the 9000... bullshit.
jasonoffishall they need a part 2
The Sonet
The 90000
The old 2 stroke all deserve a place on this list
Marc Scordato, Yes! 9000 Talladega and the Viggen are pretty close on my list. And the late 9000 aero beats the 9-5 aero any time. Also, the Somett II with the the 3 cyl 2-stroke sounds amazing, especially if you live up north and are familiar with snowmobiles. The 3cyl 2 strokes from Yamaha and ski-doo are to die for.
why not?? I drive daily Saab 9000 S CD 1990 it's super car
Over 25 years I owned (6) SAABS - my favorite was the 1997 Anniversary 9000 - an amazing car ! A great ride - gas mileage - styling and could carry a sofa in the hatch !!
awesome!
A 9000 Anniversary FPT is a very very nice car, especially in the special purple they did for that year
1986 1987 best of best look it up fur real 9000 T sincerely
Saab forever :)
I had several SAABs. I had 2 favorites. The one I loved most at the time was an '84 900 turbo. The one I would love to own today was a '75 99GL.
I'm jealous
Miss my '83 900 turbo hatch!
I had a 99GL years ago. Unfortunately, it began to accumulate too many problems that were too expensive to address. Was a good car while it lasted.
I’m on my 7th and my favourite is my 1987 900 T8, black 2 door with sports seats. Absolutely incredible amazing car! After that it’s my 2.3FPT 9000 Le Mans Blue with grey leather, full clarion hi-fi, extra dials, which I had for 60k miles and cried when I sold it
I'm a simple man, i see SAAB and i drop a like
Just want to say thank you for your continued enthusiasm for this car brand.
Thank you!! Yep I have an 03 9-3 Arc!
I have seen the 94x in Europe, but not in UK.
There's also a dreadful Saab which is just a rebadged Subaru too.
Thanks AA!!! Love that I'm seeing so many knowledgeable young car guys who love Saabs. I finished grad school in 1986 and bought a used slate blue metallic Saab Turbo....OMG I F-Ing LOVED that car! it made a sound when the turbo kicked in in 1st and 2nd gears that was a distinct "ZIIIING!"
You make me SO want to buy one and work on it....EJM
thanks edward, Right on!
1991 9000 turbo. Perfect car.
Great car for sure
I have a 1972 Saab 96 V4. Without these cars there wouldn't have been the later cars. Saab 96 made history in rallying. Definitely should have been in the top 10.
I miss my 900 turbo... great car
Truly special, I love them
Dewey Foulk
All great cars! Thank you for sharing :)
Great overview of the 10 best Saab's. I have seen several last production 9-5 saloons and think it's stunning and so classy. They really are special cars :-)
Thank you sir!
Awesome video man. Very informative to me! 👍🔥💪 Keep it up. I just got my own 1992 SAAB 900 Turbo Vert... Blown motor but I'm bringing it back alive. 40 year old here.
You didn't mention the Saab 9-3 convertible
We had a '77 99gle growing up. Dad put a turbo on it, ported the head, lower compression pistons, added water injection and ran 12psi boost. And this was back in the 80's! When that thing hit second gear it would scare you. Been a Saab fan ever since. :)
nice!
the 9000 tho? Best one in my opinion!
Yep, narrowly missed the list :(
Sad. Ive had 2 9000's and loved them both. I drove them over 200k miles each and it was a joy the whole time.
It's a Lancia-Alfa Romeo.
@@rollotwomassey It was the Saab :) Engine etc :)
Never thought I'd own a Saab until I looked close at a 2005 Aero convertable. Few cars come close to how stylish the interior is. I've had it 5 years with no regrets. It is fantastic to drive.
Awesome :) That's what I like to hear!
The Viggen was once the worlds fastest production car. Love my 9-3 Sport Combi. No car on earth is better than Saab.
I don't think it was the worlds fastest production car, lol
@@AutoAutopsy I don't either. Awful lot of "urban legends" about the prodigiousness of the Viggen floating around, IMO. Really nice car - but as they say in the hood (or used to), "They ain't all THAT."
1991 9000 turbo. Try to find one. 1991 specifically because it was the 1st year of the 2.3 and the only year that the 2.3 didn't have a electronic throttle body. I had a Swedish Dynamics built '91 9k. I cry a little every time I think of it.
I reckon the 2002 9-3 turbo convertible (aus anniversary edition) should be on this list ;) (midnight blue colour is best w/ it)
My mom has an 01 vert in anniversary blue (I think that's the color name)!
Bought myself a 02 20th anniversary of turbocharging edition T7 SAAB in colorchanging midnight blue. Fantastic cars!
🔥🙌🔥
Thank you for the list. I miss the original 900 convertible though.
The 9-5 Hatchback is a beauty. I have a 1.43 model in my office. So sad it never made it to the street.
No Sonett? They're probably the most interesting Saab I've seen! Besides, a non-bike two stroke unit that can hit 60mph is quite impressive.
Those V4 engines are so cool!
didn't the sonnet have a wankle engine?
@@Zotter310 Nope. First it had a two stroke, and later on a V4
Ah right! I can't believe I forgot about the vert; thanks for sharing and happy Saabing!
The 95 wagon burnout was the BALLS !!
I know, right??
I currently have a saab 9-3 turbo 2011 and I absolutely love it.
What! No 2 stroke 😱. JK. A lot of those are quite nice. Especially the one that gapped the Vette.
lol
What do you expect from a teenager? Lol The 96, 95, Sonnett and earlier were True Saab!
Wow nice :)
bobbal1 I’m about to buy one for under a grand with 70k miles!
9000 Aero? ;)
Yeah that was one that narrowly missed the list!
Auto Autopsy Good job anyway..... :)
Hey guys how reliable do you think my 2003 Saab 9-3 SE convertible is 88,000 Miles so far so good!!?? 😉
Ah, my apologies. Thank you for the correction
And the illuminati logo in the seats ^
Same in the uk.
I would love nothing more! I'm guessing you were at SOC? Some of those pictures were one's I took at the event :)
Saab 9000 Best SAAB of them all :-)
Great car for sure
@@AutoAutopsy couldn’t agree more the 9000 an amazing car, loved it!!
I used to have a SAAB 900 1995. Black color turbo Intercooler. It was an amazing car. I truly love that car so much
nice!
Definitely a great car! No doubt about that :)
Maybe america doesn't have the good old saabs? Their namings for the 900 (SPG?? wtf?) and 9-3 (viggen?? wtf?) are so weird.
Thank you for this great review.
Glad you enjoyed it!
WHAT ?? Viggen means thunderbolt ?? what idiot told you that ?? :P
I am swedish and Viggen is the singular form of Vigg which is a bird: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tufted_duck
So basically Viggen just means "THE tufted duck"...
FYI thunderbolt in swedish is blixt.
I was lied to! :(
viggen does also mean "the thunderbolt".
according to SAOL is synonomus with "blixten"
Amazing, it's actually true... however even SAOL which is a pretty old school and formal bunch of old linguists calls that meaning deprecated...
Wow 🤩
Epic, my 9-5 Aero....
:)
Hopefully one day can get one again and have my wife or one of my kids drive it for me
wow awesome!
could you please do Volvo next
Admittedly, I don't know nearly as much abut Volvo as I do Saab :(
tarik bektasevic has Noone told u there's a love hate relationship there! Don't mention Volvo on a saab forum dude!
That is one of the most eye-catching Saabs ever and highly sought after.I'll leave the Carlsson range for another, future comment.Keep your Saab alive - it was designed to keep you alive when you needed it most!
thanks, but this video is mostly geared towards an american audience. Appreciate the euro insight tho
The 9000 is undoubtedly beautiful. Love the looks!
the reason why the 9-2x reached this list, is because just like Saab, subaru has a history of being quirky, cool and idiosynchratic and while GM was strangling saab, misusing it completely, Subaru gained the name Saab once had, of being a cool carbrand that thinks outside of the box.
Ah, great observation. Makes sense
I have owned many Saabs in the past, but not one of them compared to my 1988 SPG. There was something special about waking up and taking a road trip in the SPG.
I love SPG's! Cool :)
Drove several types over 40 years. . 96,95, 99,9-3, 900 OG and NG,9000 and a black Sonett III ! greeting from Holland.
Definitely a fantastic car; shame it wasn't a production car
LOL
Wow, 18.3 is suprisingly poor :( I had a chance to drive a sonnet a year or so ago and loved it!
When it comes to SAAB is pretty simple. Pre GM which means SAAB and after GM which cocked up the SAAB
both are good..
The regular 900 Turbo was the one with around 160 hp, the spg was beefed up to 185, although the c900 is my personal fav, I think this list was in good order!!
Thank you, but that could've been the Euro models, I believe the US spec came with the power I mentioned
Auto Autopsy just looked it up on saabhistory.com, it was 160 until 1987 when it was bumped up to 165, then in 1990 the US SPG made 175, so I was wrong, oh well! Stupid US regulations!!
Loving this one brother thanks for sharing this one lol would love to have all these saabs on the list keep up the good work
:) thanks Phillip!
Hello. Nice list!
I’m a swedish ex Saab mechanic. I totally love Saab. I have a 900 T16 5-door -92. Full pressure. With all the options avilable at the time. Exept for sunroof. It’s my favorite model. I actually prefer 5d before 3d. I like thouse short doors.
Excellent!
I did of corse subscribe as soon as i saw you yesterday. I love this channel already. I know a lot about Saab and i have far mor to learn from you.
Did you work at Trolhattan ?
fastasfox. No. I worked at a shop in a south suburban to Stockholm. It was in the 90’s btw. 91-01.
Figge Berglund
When SAAB were Proper SAAB then 😁
Come here tog Sweden if you enat to ser saabs everywhere, event those rare ones quite often. We really miss 'em here in sweden where they Always we're loved and one of the best selling brands.
I’ve heard there’s still a lot on the road there!
Great video! I just love to watch your Saab videos. If it's gonna be a chance to do a 9-4 review... It's a great saab!
Not sure if there's any local to me, but I will if I can find a chance
Cool :)
Great overview! I really wish SAAB was still around. I owned 4 of them over a number of years. The NG 95 was years ahead in terms of design.
agreed! there's still plenty on the road thankfully
i am in the process of servicing my Saab thought i'd buy the parts online most parts were spot on and then there was other parts that just didn't cut the mustard! you really know you stuff on Saabs!
Thanks Owen!
WoW !!!!!! Great video !!!
thanks!
Fame - mine is the black 99 Turbo two door! Excellent site, keep up the good work.
Awesome, and thanks! :)
Saab made some awesome cars
They did!
9-5 is a great platform to mod. Gotta say though the 1999 9-3 and older with B204 engine was easily capable of 500-600 whp with Stock internals. So 2dr hatch with that can be very quick.
That’s what I’ve heard! Pretty awesome
Saabs are elegant, many cars nowadays are not as beautiful as saabs, not only that, they are also really save cars.
There’s definitely a lot of good looking cars out there still haha. They are very safe!
Yeah I mentioned a couple things about the 9-2x that were different mechanically, thank you for that info sir
Any link of the video at 4:15?
th-cam.com/video/kzHUfhObTSE/w-d-xo.html
I like the sound of Subaru's. But I like the sound of my Saab more, even if it's slower.
Your 9-2x? They should have the same exhaust note
Good work! Thanks..
:)
As a proud Saab owner I like the comments below. Looks like Saab enthusiasts have a bit of Italian blood flowing through their Body: passion! WHAT, SAAB owners!!???? YES😱👍
👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Your opinion of the 95 / 900 convertible Shall I keep & try to trouble shoot the issues ?
Yes!
Great video, love Viggens ,have 3 of them
Wow, nice!
This Saab thing is sort of like the obsession that the guy had in the movie Crazy People. If you haven't seen it you should. It was made in 1990 so it will involve older models.
Lol, I'll look into it!
Wow cool!
As the other guys have already mentioned, the 9000 Aero should have been very close to the top of that list. Saab handled us one of those to test drive and it was nothing short of spectacular. Pure power and handling.
Yeah, I see what you're saying! Definitely was the first car not to make it
saab is like finding the love you can't find.
The Sonnet is a pretty cool car too!
Interesting. It always pains me to read people parting Saabs out, but I trust you and know you had your reasons.
The 93 aero TTID in a convertible very rare to get over here in Europe
Great car for sure
My friend has NG 9-5 Sport Combi Aero. It's an absolute unicorn and one of the most beautiful car I have seen. :)
He also has large collection of Saabs.
NUT
I have a 9_3 turbo and I love this car, can put boy racers to shame 60 _ 100 mph, would love to have a Viggen! It is rusting round rear wheel arches but I still love its cornering ability on tight roads.
Yes, the Aud rs8 will not go faster!
rs8 will be faster but less fun! what does blue face mean?
This is a good list of recent Saabs, but I was waiting for you to feature the SAAB 96 and the Sonnet. How did they not make the list? Without the 96 the rest may not have ever been produced.
Fair; although everyone has differing opinions! :)
Question would you happen to know what would cause a rough start on a 04 Saab 9-3?
I'd need to know more about it, but it could be number of things.
The 9-4X was produced in GM Ramos Arizpe Coahuila plant, I Saw the suv in the production line 2011 year..amazing but the plant manager didnt allow to take pics..
Man that sucks! I would've loved to see what it looked like on the line
Auto Autopsy GM used the Cadillac former SRX platform, few 9-4X were produced ...all of them sold like hot bread...
Missing the best of them. Then 95 wagon and the 96 sedan. One of the longest produced Saab models.
fantastic cars!
What about the 2003 9-3 2.0 t convertible, how reliable and what should I know about this car!? I have 87k miles on it. Thanks!
I have a blacked out 2.8L turbo 2007 93 SAAB AND COMING FROM A CHEVY IMPALA MAN I LOVE THIS CAR bought it 115,000 miles on her
lol nice!
Great video! Where are the 900 Red Arrow and Silver Arrow on this list? And the Sonett and 9000 Aero should be in there too like mentioned in the comments before. Well maybe a top 10 list is just hard to make in this case haha.
it is hard to make haha; those could call easily be included
Though i love old Saabs but the last wagon style Saab got me! Its style, shape is just gorgeous! Other than that i loved the Saab 99 Turbos headlight wipers, it makes this Saab uniquely special!! My fav is '61 Saab 96 and the above mentioned Saab 99 Turbos with wiper headlights..not to forget Saab Sonett has one of the sexiest wooden dash with some awesome racey gauges!
very true! all cool cars
Since I've owned a Saab, I've learned more about them watching your channel
:)
What about the 2011 9/3 Turbo 4 x wheel drive 6 speed manual !
I was told it was also rear,
How do you rate it !
Love your videos and really appreciate if the know of the saab and the love you have for this iconic vehicle!! Please 🙏 keep up with the amazing news on anything SAAB 🙏 😢 ❤️
😁🙌🏼
Thank you for putting this list together. I agree the top 3 are fast and super cool, I feel this list plainly shows the demographic of who digests Instagram. NG is a GM watered down version of SAAB, granted the folks at SAAB tried their best to keep GM out of the desigh and manufacturing process, and did the best they could given the limited resources GM provided.
There's still a lot of older Saabs on IG too; but on instagram or not, there are far more newer saabs on the road than pre-GM ones. That's just the truth of it. All are still cool in my book!
