These videos never fail to make me smile! I have been VERY lucky with my bike, it's just a Carrera one from halfords but I did my first century last year with some Endura padded bib shorts and no bike fit, no pain at all during that, was very lucky!
Hi Amy, just letting you know that your book has made it all the way to Australia. I just turned 60 and my wife bought it for me as a present. I am only a few pages in so far and have already gained a useful perspective on my anxiety. Cycling and swimming have been really important aspects of my treatment and got me out of the house when I was at my lowest. Keep up the great work!
If you go to the garden store you can buy a pump sprayer, like for bug spray. Fill it with hot water after a salty ride and spray your bike down. Nothing beats heat for dissolving salt out of your bike crevices.
I clicked on this as I’m a new rider and thought I’d pick up a few tips to help me out! And I cannot believe it as I recognised the A6 which I had been on only earlier that day as it was my first ride out for a few months! Will follow to support a local girl! And to get some cycle route ideas!
Ahh awesome local to us then! Hope you love cycling as much as we do ~ plenty of great routes in this area & challenging with the hills in the Peak District!
This is one of my favorite channels! Until August 10 I only had a city bike and one of my friends had a surprise for me that day. One of his friends wanted to sell his road bike and the price couldn't be more right, so I bought it. Can't wait for your next video! ❤
Hi Amy using bike lights during the day as you did in the gloom of November and into winter will no doubt save lives as well as bright fluorescent and reflective clothing, it might not look cool but better than being injured or worse, happy to see your getting new brighter winter clothing. Great channel Amy, very inspiring.
Correct bike positioning is more effective than most other things when around traffic. Make sure you know where you and your bike should be when riding among traffic
Hi Amy. I'm brand new to cycling and loving your videos. This is a bit off track but I've just bought my first Garmin and went out with it at the weekend. I had no idea what was going on with it?! It's the 840. Just wondering if you could do a really basic video on how to use one?! Theres loads of videos out there but they seem to expect you to know how to use it! Plus I'm old so that doesn't help (think of your grandad trying to use a remote control) many thanks!!!
I used to do what kyle did, absolutely soak the chain with oil, on a mountain bike, probably even worse as attracts all the dirt, now a drop on each pin, allow to soak in and a good wipe off 👌
Great video again, some really helpful tips, best thing I ever did was join "Breeze" rides for women, best friends I ever made. Nice to see Kyle cheered up after his morning grumps 🙂🙂
Top tip: Learn about primary and secondary road positioning in order to keep yourself safe around traffic. And remember the thing that cyclists are most often doing when they are involved in a traffic incident is turning LEFT, from a major to a minor road. It is not something you probably would guess, and you can learn how to do it skillfully from and Nationally Recognised Cycling Instructor who specialises in riding in traffic.
When are we going to start buying some of the merchandise you guys are wearing? Love the jackets. Getting colder here in New York. Those jackets look great!
My tip for what it’s worth…try to avoid riding in the big chainring and bigger rear sprockets or small chainring to smallest sprockets as this puts the chain at a severe angle! I felt for Ellie’s jockey cage which looked like it was at its limit 13.30.Lovely Colnago though
Definitely, I'd noticed how loose some people's helmet straps are and it winds me up! Not really much point wearing one if the straps are loose and it gets flung off your head in an accident
Hi Amy, please could you give a link of the Cams(?) support for any incidents/injuries you recommended. Sounds like very valuable resource Glad you could meet Ellie thru this organisation too!
Tip - it is great to learn from the experience of others, however, you should not waste even one second worrying about what other people think of you. You can only ever be the person that you are, accept yourself and never give a f*** about what other people think.
Nicely presented. Some excellent tips. I'd have two tips: 1. Don't overspec the bike. Race bikes can be stiff and uncomfortable and does anybody need DuraAce? 2. Learn about nutrition. What to have before during and after a ride.
On windy days you want a tail wind on the way out and a head wind on the way home. Because if you have a head wind on the way our you will usually have a shorter ride.
Flat tips: practice replacing a tube, a couple times, somewhere comfortable. You will then be less anxious about fixing a flat on a ride. CO2 inflators are an alternative to a hand pump. Continental Gatorskin tires aren’t the fastest tbut they are about as puncture resistant as a road bike tire gets.
Just surfing TH-cam what a brilliant channel this is great information for me not been cycling that long but originally from Sheffield but now living in the flatlands of Norfolk really miss the views and hills off Derbyshire thank you once again for your blogs used to think GCN was the best but your channel beets them so natural keep up the great work oh before I go what was the insurance you were talking about . THANKS
Ahh thank you so much that’s so lovely to hear ☺️ it’s CAMS - cycling accident management service you contact them if you’re ever in an accident and they’ll help
Hi can I ask u what the best lock to have i have a d-lock need to get a new bike now coz my bike got nick from the train station point view from u and kyle
Think about unclipping if you go over backwards while doing a wheelie. I never thought about it till I tried to show my wife how it’s done and realized I couldn’t (unclip both feet at the same time) & crashed into a canal. Fortunately the water was not deep and I didn’t go over backward.
Sella Italia= The best!👍🏻You must slap Kyle round back of his head for trying to wheelie. Its not good for the Carbon Steerer cos it will stress and could crack, sending him over the bars and into a hospital bed consuming food by drip. Really!! You guys do make me laugh every time. Wish I was local I'd join you on a ride out!👍🏻👊🏻
If Kyle wants to do tricks, he should purchase a BMX bike rather than wreck his Pinny! I'm sure his antics on the road bike will end in tears one day. Nice vid!! Cheers, Pjw
Beginner roadies. Don't have that saddle too high or nose tilted up excessively. If you're experiencing soreness in your nethers and weight is not distributed to your sit bones, drop the saddle height. Experiment with it. Do watch bike fit clips. You won't become an expert bike fitter but you will have more knowledge to understand what might be causing your issues and what might be the solution(s).
Dont be too dismissive of black clothing! A cyclist in black, riding in the countryside in daylight conditions, really contrasts against the surroundings. In dusk or dark conditions and urban environments this might not he the case however. 'Hi viz' isnt the cure-all solution people think it is. The typical hi viz yellow/green colour blends in perfectly with brightly lit leaves for example and I also find that many road users suffer from 'hi viz blindness' whereby they assume someone or something wearing hi viz is either not moving or moving slowly, e.g. road workers, pedestrians, horse riders, road signs etc and I think there is so much hi viz around these days that it doesnt stand out any more. Other bright or unnatural colours do more IMO and the best way to be seen is through good lighting and also reflectives, which stand out much more than hi viz in gloomy or dark conditions. Most black cycling gear also has reflective panels or features these days. After 30+ years of cycling daily, I tend to avoid traditional hi viz clothing these days because of the number of times other road users still claim to have 'not seen' me! I wonder, if all vehicles had to be painted hi viz too, would all traffic accidents stop? 🤔 😂🤣 Nope!
The best tip for new cyclists is TO GIVE YOURSELF A CHANCE... this means that if you can be as efficient on the bike as possible in terms of power transfer, so whatever you put into the pedals gets through to the wheels, you will be less likely to get discouraged and give up before you start. SO HOW CAN YOU DO THIS???...GET 165MM CRANKS IF YOU ARE UP TO 5'8"...170MM UP TO 6'... and 172.50MM ONWARDS. I know this is a bit techy for your usual channel content, but new riders can get advice on this from their bike technician. Oh, by the way, that sausage bacon egg sandwich looked to have no butter on it, and it was under cooked! I thank you!
The problem with experienced riders giving tips to beginners, is that, really, you forgot what it's like to begin. No? I mean after riding a few years, do you actually remember how weak and sorry you were when first starting? I could barely do laps around the neighborhood and now I can barely fathom someone so pathetic.

Carrera bikes are underestimated. I had a Virtuoso for years. No problem.

Thank you for the video Amy.. My tip for beginner's would be that you can just use flat pedals, 🚴♂
Good one! ☺️
All great tips and a great video, thanks from a relatively new cyclist who has joined a Ladies cycle group. (Top tip).
Thank you! Ahh that’s fab to hear, enjoy your rides x

@11:15 talking about the big Routeworks handlebar bag?
Nice to see Ellie :)
Went to my fav cafe stop when we where in the Peak District 😊

Just one more tip to add Helmet fitment and adjustment ,nice content, I would say come to New Zealand but our drivers here are mad lol
Definitely, I'd noticed how loose some people's helmet straps are and it winds me up! Not really much point wearing one if the straps are loose and it gets flung off your head in an accident
Not as mad as Aussie drivers😅
How is Kyle still liking his F7? I just got one last week, but due to bad weather in my area i have only been able to ride it once so far.
Yayyyyyyyy Chester! 😃

Beautiful nails ellie
Kyle got the hat!
Selle Italia needs to make carbon base saddles with padding.
When I didn't have any oil, I once lubed my chain with a bar of natural soap . And once I lubed my chain with an old tube of chapstick.

Get some decent rechargeable lights, 600 lumens at least to see on the front. I have a cateye volt 1200 used daily in all weather's for over 4 years.
Is that a beginner’s bike? Wow!!
Why don't you have sealant in your tyres?
Because they’ve got tubes in we’re not tubeless
Tip, i put sealent in my tubes! @@amy.cycling.adventures
Yep, Ellie wears glasses. ..☺️
I thought that Bavarian place was a restaurant or something. Kyle gets to ride with bike babes all the time fair play to him.
Kyle: "I said 'Goodbye' for about 6 times!"
Somehow I knew that was going to be the next thing Kyle would say. 😊
😂😂

That's why road cleats suck... they're too delicate and awkward. Why aren't you on gravel cleats???
I won't be poaching any of your egg jokes..

Not one single girls ride on Amys channel has actually been all girls , no sausages allowed from now on.
Steady on. Kyle is an integral part of any girls ride… he brings the looks and the laughs
Cycling not American softball.
Brooks saddle all day way your father is like me brooks saddles are great and i am 63 years old had a lot of saddles in my time.
Kyle goes where he wants when he wants. Put some respect on this man’s name lol
With so many meat grinders, it is inevitable that a sausage will eventually turn up.
Here’s simple tip from a cyclist of 50years.Don’t wear black!
Dude is pretty grumpy, bring some positive energy of some sort.
