    This video took me from no clue about how to use a muzzle-loader I had received as a gift to being competent enough to run it in under 5 minutes. Pure quality content.

    I actually have this exact rifle that I got from my Grandma when my Grandpa passed away, and the matching pistol. Still have yet to fire it just because I haven't known how to do it. Perhaps it is time for a range day. :) Thank you!

    Just my 2C but I was taught to leave the hammer done with the spent cap; to block air from getting to any embers that may be left from the firing of the cap or previous load. Also never put any part of your body over the muzzle while charging it. Maybe you should add the fallow up shot reload.

      I’m considering getting a kit… what all equipment did you need, and was it difficult? Would you recommend one?

    WARNING!!! Do not try to seat your patched ball with long strokes like he did in this video when you are using a wooden ramrod. It will Break! Notice he used his range rod to seat the patched ball with long strokes and it is NOT made out of wood. With a wooden ramrod, use much shorter strokes of about 12" or so at a time. If you do break your rod, you can effect a field repair using some artificial sinew, which is made of flat nylon. It works fine until you can replace the ramrod...ask me how I know...

    Years ago I bought a Traditions Frontier Gander
    It came with both a .50 caliber and .36 caliber barrels
    I have never fired it

    The one thing about muzzleloaders is they are actually so much more sophisticated than modern firearms. I remember when I got my first one there was so much more worry like did load it right, is the powder charge the best? Then it came to ball and patch combo, some can shoot plain base or minie style. In the end I ended up just owning just 1 and chose a target rifle that with the right load, lead weight, and keeping the fouling low I was able to achieve 1 moa at 50 yards to 1.25-1.50 moa at 100 yards

    Shouldn't you have the ram rod installed on the rifle? When you're hunting it will be installed and not having it installed at the range could change your point of aim because of barrel harmonics.

    • @kuessebrama
      @kuessebrama 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      My point of aim is exactly the same if the rod it on or off. I mean this thing weights nothing in comparison too the rifle so it does not make any difference.

    I've been making my own caps, and have had positive ignition every time, however the the charge always burns a hole through my caps. Should I load the caps lighter, or is that to be expected when using aluminum caps?

    • @MuzzleLoaderscom
      @MuzzleLoaderscom  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Unfortunately, I do not have any experience with building caps. I would recommend contacting a manufacturer like CCI or Federal as they may be able to assist you with that question.

    Do you have to use the "Set Trigger" or will the rifle fire without using it?

    I just picked up a Japan made Dixie 50cal cap rifle, 41.5". Ive always been wanting to get into muzzleloading. Anyone care to steer me in the right direction? I've been casting and loading for multiple cartridges but have too much ammo and now bored with it. I have much to learn before using this rifle. Start with 60gr ball and feel it out? What is a good manual to order? I like to follow published data. Thanks!

      We have some round balls on our website that will work for you. For your convenience, I will include a link to that page. Unfortunately, we do not currently have any #11 percussion caps in stock. Your best bet would probably be to try a local gun store for the #11 percussion caps.

      yes if you want to ruin the bore. 777& Pyrodes are corrosive despite what the makers say. Use FFg or FFFg and clean after with water. Solvents that work with smoke less will not work with Black Gun Powder.
