I can 100% see an animated short film about a pilot who wants to earn his heart badge on his Legionnaire but things go sideways and he and his copilot have to adapt to a worsening situation. Maybe pirates attack or the vanduul start a small incursion near them. Random thoughts.
@@AcheliusDecimus they have not missed anything. The game is still in its infancy :) Lots of stories can be told in the future and I think CIG knows that
When I first saw this ship, I was a bit dismissive of it because I saw "boarding craft" and it made me think of vehicles like the Hoplite and the Prowler and how I haven't really seen anyone use these vehicles the way they were intended to be used. I assumed it was nothing new, and when I think about how you are supposed to use ships like that, I always remember the clunkiness of EVA in the game and the transitions between ship and space (although it's a lot better now) and it's kinda hard to imagine it being effective or practical in combat. But this ship is actually something completely different, and WAY more interesting to me. I like this concept a lot. This can be a really useful tool, and it's one of the cooler looking ships I've seen.
I want a more civilian variant where it has more storage and less seats. maybe expanded rear hatch area. However i can definitely seeing this being a favorite drop ship if nothing else. It could be the cutlass but more dedicated to its crew actually surviving the trip. I could see this also being a favorite for stealth boarding depending on how the hacking countermeasures is going to work in the game
Thank you Lore-Master! I can't get enough lore and @TheAstroHistorian is a one stop repository! Thanks for all the time and effort you put into these. I'm really glad your channels have seen such growth. Well earned! 🍻

”go ahead boarding ship. Not that we could really go anywhere with our engines disabled by the distorsion weapons of your support fighters" - The pirates crew preparing the weapons to welcome the boarding party
I like the look and a boarding craft is surely needed for the near future. But u am more excited by idea of SAR variant. Sort of firetruck in space. But IAM a sucker for civilian gameplay.
GG for the 20K. You're thanking us, but we're the ones that are thanking you for all this wonderful content you've created. So thank you and keep on rocking lad
I think the, by far, best civilian use for this ship will probably be salvage. Specifically, salvage of less-than-completely-trashed ships. Instead of wrecking them more and having open more holes to get inside, you could just dock and force the airlock open without destroying it. Then, depending on the conditions of the derelict, take the valuable stuff and leave the hull for later scrapping or fix it up enough for it to limp to the nearest space station and sell it. Basically Duskers gameplay but 3D and without drones 😅
Looking forward to the legionnaire. I hope one day that when we finally have the capital ships with interiors in game the arlington, xenothreat and nien tails lockdown missions will be updated so that we can soft death the cap ships, send over a boarding crew on legionnaires fight our way deck through deck to capture the bridge commander to hand them in to security services for a larger pay bonus.
Pacifist that is willing compromise will find himself negotiating only half a beheading after he has lost everything else to a sufficiently insistent adversary.
Wait, you're telling me that the UEE Marines failed to use their boarding craft properly, but the pirates pulled off a picture-perfect op with them the NEXT DAY? That's not an equipment issue, that's a (tactical) skill issue
Boarding torpedoes shouldn't be that hard to pull off tbh. All you need is the tech to shoot the mustang cargo crates at the enemy with a promixity triggered dismantling that just leaves the occupants flying in space, so they can try and manually make it aboard the vessel. Trying to bore through the hull is more complicated.
yo! if youre open to criticism, say when you put an image on the screen, maybe place a title or say what the image shows so that if it is relevant to the current section of the story, the audience is made aware. just so we dont match image with something else, works to create confusion.
Jump Point from June of 2022, sadly CIG has it behind a pay wall but I know there are some people who post them for free. It's in Jump Point Issue 10-6.
I love the lore, but that ship is going to be a terrible ship to board with. Funneling all your troops through one hallway is a good way to get everyone killed. One asshat with a grenade launcher will ruin your day since it clips through cover. Its more of a "customs inspection" ship than a boarding ship. A true boarding ship can make entrances where there aren't supposed to be entrances.
That's a completely moronic scenario that will never happen, especially when you do boarding action with a disabled ship in space since it will kill both the boarder and boarded via explosive decompression. What you fail to understand is when designing any spacecraft to not have weight when you don't need it is the cardinal holy grail rules, which resulted in spacecraft usually have very barebone armoring that's necessary to fulfill its design intentions, which in return to avoid accidentally punching holes through spacecraft's hulls you use less powerful firearms for boarding action (The Expanse in particular explain and demonstrate this pretty well where breaching pods personnel usually use weapon that can't punch thought spaceship's hulls). Which is why grenade launcher-armed anti boarding party scenario is completely moronic in the first place, such weapon of such power not only way too overpowered for the purpose, but it's explosive payload pose significant risk of punching thought spacecraft's hulls, which in turn very likely to explosively spaced & killed both parties involved.
I have a couple of these I love the design and idea of them. I plan to use them for several things including but not limited to, Salvaging to enter derelict ships, medical rescue and evac, as a general shuttle and obviously it has its place in delivering "Resource Relocation Representatives" to their intended goal. 😏
Sadly the Legionnaire is a horrendous design in its current form. No way would a military craft manufacturer make a boarding ship like this. The long passage walkway attachment point is ludicrous. Do you think SAS board planes using the walkway ramps? 😂🤣😂 A fast maneuverable dropship that can allow EVA attachment or a ship that can bore/drill/cut through a hull is a more logical approach. Having the Legionnaire to run hacking also makes no sense, boarders would not use a ships airlocks as an entry point that are too easy to defend from inside and would bottleneck any boarding operation. All the current Legionnaire design shows is that CIG have no clue what they are doing.
LOL dude false equivalency much? 1. The walkway has barriers along it for cover. 2. Boarding a plane that is stationary on a tarmac in atmo and gravity is an entirely different proposition than boarding a ship in space. The same can be said for boarding a ship moving at sea. It's a shit comparison. 3. Cool, you want to cut a hole in the side of the target ship? How long is it going to take you to cut through multiple layers of armor, hull metal and structure? What happens when you go through something you shouldn't? How do you keep the atmosphere in? 4. Boarding is hard and dangerous, it is CQB in the worst way, that's why you have tactics and devices to help give you an edge. Capital ships and stations and eventually asteroid facilities have multiple airlocks to choose from, and you could easily deploy multiple teams. The entire design of the Legionnaire is to allow rapid deployment and entry and reduce the time for a defender to react. 5. Further, this is ONE SHIP, and it isn't the only way to conduct boarding. EVA and breaching/sabotage is still a thing, this is what the Prowler is designed for. This just suits the needs of the UEE based on their strategies, tactics and mission parameters.
@@tree0311 it's a space game with aliens.... Using a walkway to board is stupid. Maybe they will put hand rails on it and an escalator 🤣😂 How long to melt an unshielded hull? Boarders would get cut down where they stand. Barriers? Lol sure, where? Let's make a bottleneck in our own boarding ship...Clever 🤣😂🤣 Another dumpster design from CIG Polish me another turd why don't you.
Yes in an ideal world we would cut a hole through the hull but CIG have stated that this will never be possible. Access to a ship will only ever be possible via airlocks & doors and (later) we might be able to blow turrets off. You are right that is going to make a nasty killing zone but hopefully CIG will come up with something to mitigate that eg the ability to launch multiple stun grenades from safe cover before rushing the defenders, maybe the shaped breaching charges will cause lethal spalling in a wide area beyond the airlock. Maybe with a couple of Legionnaires one can simultaneously open all the ramps and hatches while one inserts assault troops directly into the cargo bay so there is virtually no EVA and you have two co-ordinated assaults.
