Oh Opera! I had the opportunity to do the Opera Season at The Lyric Opera House. It was fantastic. The fact that the Orchestra played and the singers sang was very special. Opera singers have a unique talent and to bring this incredible music to life with theatrical dramatization and those great voices and a story behind it is truly a gift to cherish! Love this Playlist today. I adore Rossini and Verdi. Thank you Halidon for posting the best of Opera music.

As for how much I know in Italian, I know as much as is necessary to play piano and I know a fair amount from an Italian aria by Scarlatti that I learned to sing... So when I eventually visit Italy, I will be able to walk up to a local and say "Oh, relent no more, torment me, Oh, I pray you let me die"... perhaps not the finest conversation starter, I will admit... I apologize for the tangent; as I said before, I am a little obsessed.

My favorite opera piece is "Nessun dorma", sung by the amazing Luciano Pavarotti! (Hope I spelled his name correctly.) Every single time I hear not only "Nessun dorma" as here in instrumental form, or when Pavarotti sings it, I cry. Every. Single. Time. It stirs my soul!
