Just finished watching and really liked it. A big surprise at the end.
It shows just how humans take a gift and abuse it therefore paying the price.

This trailer's music makes it seem like a horror flick, but just watched it and liked it, I'd call it more drama with some supernatural, IMO.

The first 9 minutes dragged as if 20. But then the movie displayed the superstition, paranoia, desperation, selfishness, abuse, and violence of a cult, with the characters feeling perfect legitimacy in their behaviour. That was well done. We knew the cult would not let their talisman go, so I wish they concocted a better plan, and ultimately brought about a similar ending. Since Aisla means island, it's obvious she would be tied to the island but it would have been interesting to form a more complex plot around that theme and their future. It could have branched into a second act on the mainland with new issues with the twist of being off the island, kind of like when the family leaves the house but the poltergeist follows. What would be the third act then? I can think of at least one workaround for the third iteration, like living on a boat. Developing in this way would have changed the pace for the better in the existing material and provided some depth to the storyline with at least a couple of needed pivots.

I saw this on Sunday. Excellent movie. It definitely had Midnight Mass, The Village and Carrie vibes.
The ending was telegraphed way in advance though. The bees scene.
