    I've been a reason user for 15+ years and decided its time branch out and learn something new. I decided to go with Bitwig mainly because of the Grid and Nektar integration. Your tutorials have helped me so much in my journey to become a full on Bitwig user. Making this lock down I'm experiencing A little easier to swallow. Quarantine is turning out to be pretty fun. Thanks for the content! Ill pass on the channel as much as i can.

      Hi, it excites me to hear about your adventure to Bitwig from Reason. And I'm glad my tutorials are working for you. Indeed Grid is a cool environment (though it's not a common plugin I pop up during my own work). I'm kinda more hands-on, and want to explore my ideas quickly. But it's fun to do some occasional sound design with Grid. I am a huge fan of the Nektar keyboards since the P6. The recent T4 was a bright surprise at the price. (yeye, good rhyme...) Did you check my video on the Nektar Panorama T4? Quarantine = learn new skills! Keep rocking and thanks for sharing my content with your fellow friends!

      I think Bitwig is quick to work with. It doesn't take too much time to make music with Bitwig. It's very straightforward to use modulators. And you don't have to use them if you don't want to. ;) Midi and audio editing is top notch in the DAW too. ;)

    In Bitwig Studio Basics E13 - How To Use The Modulator Devices, we explore all the modulator devices in Bitwig Studio 3.0. I also give you some tips & advice on how most of the devices can be used in a musical context. With this modulator video I want to give you a great start and spark ideas on how you can use these excellent devices in your sound design and music.
    In the video I cover all the modulation devices in Bitwig so it's quite a long video, but I added table of contents for your convenience!
    Enjoy & thanks for watching!

      Oh, thanks David. I didn't see that one coming. I was asked a while back to do a full overview of the modulators. I thought it was due time to dig into this and give a few tips on how, and in what situation to use them. It may not be super obvious how to use them at first. I know we covered some of these tips in previous videos, but I think this can be a good reference video if you want to come back and look at a certain device.
      Have a superb friday! Again, thanks David! 😋🔥

    Thank you very much for such an in-depth and full review of Bitwig modulators, Mattias! Really huge work! I think, it could be very useful set of multimedia examples for the corresponding Bitwig handbook part =)
    Indeed, though most of the modules seem to be well known and look like little can be added to their sense, it's always very useful to revisit some of them, to hear their use in someone's hands. And now I suddenly found Macro modulators, they seem to be extremely simple, but when you map them to several values at once, those trademark psy sounds appeared from nowhere =) Very nice!
    And of course, Merry Christmas, my friend! It's always so all of a sudden here, as our orthodox Christmas is two weeks later and it's still last working days now, but we are very happy for us! Have a nice holidays! Hopefully it's snowing in your place, as there's still no snow here in Moscow, arrghh) The forecast says, there should be little snow right before New Year, so there's still hope. But yes, should do some work yet)

    • @MattiasHolmgren

      Yeah this one a real beast of a video to record. I've had it planned for long, but never got to do it in fear of covering such a huge subject in one video. But I really wanted to give clues on how these modulator devices can be used in a practical manner. It's easy to be discouraged by the amount of modulation variation, and overlook the potential. I hope this video will live on as inspiration to new Bitwig (and Ableton) users.
      Haha yeah trademark psy sounds. ;) That's definitely one of those areas you can go with modulators. Random is key, connecting a modulator to several targets and having a modulator modulating the modulator. It's just an ever lasting wicked journey.
      That said, I still would love to be able to add in third party plugins in the Grid so it's more similar to the Patcher of FL Studio. Then there is absolutely no end to sound design.
      Infinite rabbit hole. ;)
      Well well, back to vacation. ;) I'm trying to just catch up on games, film and books now during the holiday. I'm playing Days Gone, Assassins Creed Odyssey, Metro Last Light (yeah old game, but I need to finish it), Lost in Space (Netflix) and Witcher (Netflix).
      I also finished reading the Metro 2033 book, I really like the series. Very good thriller mood in the games! Also playing Resident Evil VR...sick game.
      Did you have time to dive into some new games / books or series during this christmas holiday Alexey? Or are you working the whole time?
      Yeah I hope you do get some snow. The city is more bright and make up for a more fun new years evening. We got some snow recently...about 10cm. Not much. But at least the kids can go ride the nearby hills and mountains. ;)
      Thanks for writing Alexey!

      @@MattiasHolmgren Thank you for detailed reply, Mattias! Yes, honestly, I also haven't seen the whole video in one take, I think it's two or three :) So informative material!
      Yes, absolutely agree with you about 3rd party instruments in the Grid, I think, it would be quite natural development of the idea, probably one of the next updates)
      But yes, wouldn't take too much of your attention - have a nice vacation! I like your plans, sounds really promising! :) Oh no, no, I won't work the whole time, so I really hope I have vacation ahead (it's also shifted from the European one, from 1st to 8th of January this year). So I hope to sit in Bitwig (finally! music! :)) and maybe go to the cinema for a couple of films, too. Star Wars wasn't as nice, they said? But yes, cinema itself is kind of nice time. Well, when it's rare enough =) I also thought of some games, but it's also a problem in Linux, but who knows)
      Yes, we all hope for some snow right on the 31st :) Thank you again for you message, enjoy these days and have a nice time!

    whats the reasoning for setting it to unipolar? on something like pitch, I'd expect bipolar to be the better option, to keep the pitch modulation centered on the original pitch, rather than skewed slightly sharp? That said, great video, i enjoyed it very much!

    • @MattiasHolmgren
      @MattiasHolmgren  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It really depends on what you are going to do. Maybe I want a pitch fall and make it fall down /up to the exact pitch. Then it's good to have it a unipolar. So we know the start / end value. Same thing for amplitude gatings, general sidechain, filter wobbles etc. where you want to set the exact end / start value.
      Take amplitude modulation for an example. It's silly hard to set the amplitude to go from minus infinite db to, say, 0db if you use bi-polar. Because you would have to set a value someplace in between. If you had it in uni-polar, just set the max and then make it modulate down as much as you want. You don't have to fiddle with two values, offset and modulation depth. You only have to fiddle with depth. ;)
      The top value would never exceed 0db which makes sense to me. It makes it faster to work with the modulation setup.
      At least from my experience in all the music production videos I have done with Bitwig...I have not used bi-polar much...almost none of the times. So I guess, to me, "unipolar" would make more sense as default setting. As I often want to set a specific min or max point.
      Occasionally bi-polar, it depends on what I want to achieve.
      If bi-ipolar works better for you, by all means use that. Thanks for writing XY. Cheers! ;)

    AH, The Expressions, nice to draw these under the Notes - Note Expression Tab - for "per note" Effect...
    Edit: ParSeq is very awesome,
    - would be very cool if we can add Envelope to every Trigger
    - and 16 Step

      Hehe absolutely Carl. I didn’t expect an army cut today. I was too occupied doing this Bitwig video the hair just fell off.
      The ParSeq is really a cool modulator. I also hope they extend this modulator. We also need an MSEG modulator, It's my main feature-wish.
      I know you can chain modulators to do similar things, but an MSEG is an MSEG. They are uber useful.
      Thanks for jumping in! Wish you a wonderful friday!

    Is it me?...probably! But are there too many modulators that do pretty much the same things? Why 3 LFO’s? Couldn’t BW have just made one LFO that can do the same things as the others?

    • @MattiasHolmgren
      @MattiasHolmgren  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Jamis. Yes, it can sometimes seem confusing. But if you look at the LFOs for example, they are slightly different. Im off site so I can't say exactly how they differ but one is locked (synced) to tempo, while another is running freely. They are also slightly different in what options they offer.
      That said. Maybe they could just have made one mega LFO with all the options. But that would probably also become a resource hog.
      With a modular environment you want to build with tight, small components (devices) rather than big bulky devices...I guess. Im not defending their design choice (which I know little about) but rather my own perspective and speculations. 😋🌞 Good to see you Jamis. I hope all is well!

    • @jamisbillson4872
      @jamisbillson4872 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mattias Holmgren...as usual you make perfect sense. I didn’t see it the way you do.
      I’m really quite ill now. Which has stolen any spark I had. My Drumming has become abysmally poor because of my poorly state. Which is soul destroying. It’s all I ever got at. So it’s been all about Bitwig, Izotope (with Excalibur) and Soundtoys 5. Being ill is far more than just feeing ill. Especially as a musician. Thank you for asking Mattias. You’re a legend mate.
