They were a couple years ahead of their time with this sixties tinged hard rock sound. Had Andrew Wood not died it might have been the next big thing instead of grunge.
My older brother introduced me to these guys in the mid 80's when I was just becoming a teenager... A few years later I got to see them live opening for The Cult in Birmingham in the UK. My brother passed away 17yrs ago, but I still have all of his vinyl, amongst them several Balaam 12" singles, including this one.
I saw these guys open for KISS in '88. No one knew them and they were getting booed pretty horribly. The booing ended when they kicked into this tune as their finale.
I not only saw them warm up for KISS at Swanzey, NH on 7/4/88, but I had had them on my radio show (Rock 101, Manchester, NH), became somewhat chummy with them after an on-air interview in studio, and they asked me to take photos of them on stage during that show.
I first saw Balaam in May 1987 when they opened for The Mission UK at The La Paloma Theatre in Solana Beach, CA. They rocked it hard onstage! Backstage, they were the most uninhibited, hilarious & nicest guys ever! This was my favorite song! Good memories! Thanks for posting!
I have loved this song since the late 80's. I keep listening to the verses over and over..... expecially at 46 seconds,it hits me in the right spot. Been waitng to hear this song for 20 years!!!! God luv you guys.
The video has nothing at all on the actual energy the crowd and the band established together. Actually it gives a completely wrong light upon the spirit that made the band so special. Thinking of Birmingham in a small venue- The Bull in Solihull ( Later demolished) back in the day. It was pure magic. The vibe was strong. I was mesmerized by the feeling of togetherness for the lack of a better word and had been following the band all over the place, even though I wasn't even from England.
This song would have been a major hit for weeks if the versed tracks were cleaned and a little tighter. Such a powerful song it is. Would`nt mind remaking it with my songs I wrote towards that Indie style.
July 4, 1988 Cheshire Fairgrounds NH. KISS headlined. Some a-hole threw a bottle on stage towards the singer who knocked it down. His reply, "Yeah, you want to f***ing party?!"
I love Balaam and the Angel. 😃👍⭐🔥. I saw the band open for Iggy Pop at The Channel in Boston in the Summer of 1988 with my older brother. When Mark yelled, "didn't you [F-ING] love that song?" after this number, it became a running joke for my brother who did not care for the band. ☹. I became an eternal fan! Rock Always! - Heather
this was a hit back in the day here in Tennessee, still have the cassette(with a special note to the Dallas police dept for their hospitality)...lol Wish ya'll could put just the regular audio version of this song on here. Thanks for the memories, guys
I saw them after seeing this video on MTV. I can't recall much details from the show except this song and the singer's hair. Though I'm lucky to still have my hair, I was very envious of his.
Is this the single or the album version?... this is the first i'm watching the video but i have a different version on various album called metal madness. Now that the CD version have been remastered i'm placin my order at amazon. Nice stuff !!!!!!!!!!
I salute you, dude - 23 years old myself :-) This single version is definitely my favourite: the added arrangements don't feature on the LFOD version sadly. Peace! J x
This song alone kills anything Joy Division or shitty bands in that vein could ever convey in their gay songs. Too bad B&A didn't go on and wrote more songs like this....
this is my dad, the main singer, looking at his videos lol.
Chaz Teh Spaz Say hello to Mark from me!!
Danny
Great band! I’m a fan of their music. - from Canada (another Danny)
Many great tunes!
He's my dad as well

So hard to believe they never got bigger. Great song writing and hooks.
I'm guessing management/internal drama. Too bad.

I love getting nostalgic with something I've never heard before
A great song that rekindles memories of my youth.
Balaam was highly underrated & this song should have been a major hit.
I not only saw them warm up for KISS at Swanzey, NH on 7/4/88, but I had had them on my radio show (Rock 101, Manchester, NH), became somewhat chummy with them after an on-air interview in studio, and they asked me to take photos of them on stage during that show.
You drink the sea

The guitarist especially..very cool nice guy
Saw them open for the Mission at the Ritz NYC April 1987
Awesome to hear this band again. I saw them at JB's, King St, Dudley in the (late?) 80's. Glad to see they are still going :)
This should,ve been a big hit 4 them.
It was a pretty big hit on KISW in Seattle.
One of those obscure songs I heard and has always stuck with me...
I worked in a strip club as a DJ when this song and album came out. I played the hell out of this song! Thanks for posting it!
This is also my dad I'm very pride for him! Hello from me
I have loved this song since the late 80's. I keep listening to the verses over and over..... expecially at 46 seconds,it hits me in the right spot. Been waitng to hear this song for 20 years!!!! God luv you guys.

Been following this band since 80's also. Loves these guys....
I saw these guys at The Upstage in Pittsburgh, PA probably 86-87. Super nice guys. We played pool with them. I really liked them back then.
Great great song, I love it!
that song was a big hit back in the day down south...
now that was funny. I was looking desperately for a SOUL song with the same text line ... and ended up with 80s glam rock. Gotta have my coffee now :P
saw these guys at the fridge in Shrewsbury when I was about 15.. lord their trousers were tight
this was a hit back in the day here in Tennessee, still have the cassette(with a special note to the Dallas police dept for their hospitality)...lol Wish ya'll could put just the regular audio version of this song on here.

My ex sister-in-law once met the drummer's neighbour's cousin's dogsitter. So I feel as if this song was written for me.

Is this the single or the album version?... this is the first i'm watching the video but i have a different version on various album called metal madness. Now that the CD version have been remastered i'm placin my order at amazon. Nice stuff !!!!!!!!!!

Japan.
the mission uk copy
This is not EVEN the version that was included on the album "Live Free Or Die"...what gives?
It's not glam rock! It's angel rock!
The quality of the sound is a fucking mess!!!
They tried hard to be like THE CULT (since the ELECTRIC album) but they´ve never been that good. On the other side they had their own style.
THE MISSION UK COPY
