we do have AI that can understand aerodynamics, but its custom made specifically for mechanical and aeronautical engineering, so it can't speak or generate any visuals. And it only optimizes the initial design drafts you give it; it cannot create original designs. You also have to express any desired design constraints in terms of mathematical equations first.

I really like the Sonic X-5 supersonic passenger jet. Still wondering what the rear pods are on the Soviet armed airliner?
That Lockheed Ring Wing airliner would work better with it's engines farther back on the fuselage, as midcabin would make for too loud disturbance within the passenger section. This is why aircraft such as the McDonnell Douglas DC-9 and the Boeing 727 had their engines at the rear.

    Soviet aircraft M-25 “Hell's Mower”
The Soviet Union at one time developed many interesting examples of military equipment aimed at neutralizing its neighbor. Quite recently, in one of the specialized military magazines, there was a mention of a special-purpose aircraft that was supposed to jam the enemies of our country by flying over them at supersonic speed. Everyone who found themselves under his wings would simply be demolished, including tearing down the towers and heavy tanks. The name of this miracle of the Soviet military industry is MP-25 “Hell's Mower,” which is very uncharacteristic for Russian technology.
The project of the “mower” was carried out at the EMZ and all calculations for the airframe and general design were carried out there. This began after the conflict with China over Damansky Island in 1969, when our Grads literally trampled the entire northern group of Chinese troops into the mud. Apparently the use of MLRS turned out to be very expensive and it occurred to someone to use the sound wave of an aircraft passing at an altitude of 30 - 50 meters to jam the Chinese.
It is worth understanding that this idea did not arise from scratch. A couple of years before the incident, they tested the influence of a sound wave using a MiG-21S fighter. By the way, our western neighbors also tried to put supersonics into their service, but what it all resulted in needs to be looked for separately. In our country, after the calculations, we came to the conclusion that if a special aircraft always flies with an amplified sound wave, then there will not be enough airframe life. Therefore, for the SSP, we developed, or rather calculated, a model of a special wedge-shaped retractable device. In a combat situation, it was precisely this that created that very deadly wave, which, according to the plan, was supposed to demolish the enemy’s manpower and light equipment.
The SSP was developed for three whole years, from 1969 to 1972, but they received nothing except virtual models. Three models weighing from 20 to 120 tons were calculated, but the calculations reached a dead end and work on the project was shelved. Most likely, the reason was technologies that simply did not exist in nature or could only exist in mathematical form. In any case, the project was completely abandoned in favor of more traditional weapons.
It is worth understanding that such an aircraft would become a fairly easy target for enemy air defense systems. The device was forced to move at an extremely low altitude and became a victim of missile and anti-aircraft systems.
There, the Shilka, having easily calculated its course, would have intercepted it on approach. This is not to mention the more modern systems that appeared later. And no amount of speed could save the MP-25 from being hit by shell fragments. And flying over the enemy would require pinpoint precision and unprecedented composure from the pilot. By the way, purely theoretically, such planes were supposed to fly in a group and, according to calculations, they mutually reinforced each other.

To say that the 747 was all designed on paper is not really true. There did exist both computers and NC machines. NC machines was used to some extent already during the first world war, while the first hybrid numerical machines started already in the 1870s. During WWII full NC machines was used. By the tale end of the 40s punch card NC machines was used to make wing-spars out of aluminum from NC-milling machines. By the 1950 mechanical/analog-electric direct use NC machine started to become common for airplane manufacturing. By the time 747 was in design CNC machines was already started to entering manufacturing.
The NC machines them self are of cause not computers, but typically the NC code would be pre programmed on a mechanical computer. A lot of people think that the computer age started in 1945 and didn´t become main stream until 1970s. That is only true for electronic computers. (modern) Mechanical computers was actually pinered in 1804 (there was some computers prior, but with very limited spreed and capacity). This was actually what IBM become big on. In 1920 those started to be replaced by electro mechanical computers and they shrunk in both price and size. Analog computers was also in heavy use in WWII battleships and cruisers for shell targeting. Those computers was made in fairly big volumes. We talk about hundreds if not thousands.
Boeing also did use electromechanical computers as early as in 1943. Something like the main design house of Boeing as late as 1960 would probobly have access to one if not several computers. If not even possibly have one in house computer. The general calculation computers would still be quite expensive, but the single purpose computers at this time was so cheap that they was already in fighters at that time. For example the FW190 had a dedicated analog hydro-mechanical computer for throttle control.
Hydromechanical computers are really cool, and actually surprisingly small and light

Considering his accent, I doubt many people up over would have even noticed "tradetional" if you hadn't pointed it out.
