    I train in Tang Soo Do and the knife defences are very similar but I can see some useful tactics in Krav Maga that add to combat skills. No system in isolation is complete. It's one of the better demonstrations and the instructor is very skilled and should not be derided for freely sharing expert, last resort self defence with sound foundation in Northern style Kung Fu and Aikido techniques coupled with the typical Krav Maga double strike. It is the double strike that the technique relies upon, HOPING you strike with enough speed and power to incapcitate or disorientate the attacker sufficiently and avoid the secondary wave thereby allowing you to fully lock the arm with the weapon. However, as with all of these demonstrations, they are static, not dynamic, the attacker never uses the left hand, never rushes the victim like a charging bull or rolls the wrist out of the initial weak lock. Best advice, distance = RUN! It takes years of training to execute these techniques with the slimmest hope of success. Remember, as the instructor states, within 7 yards, a knife is an equal or even more dangerous weapon than a gun!

    I loved the video. I will rewatch it and practice. Thank you for sharing. The only thing I would add is the left handed attacker version. It would be helpful as well.

    Very good and practical knife defense and offense. Good angles and demonstrations. I like the fact of removing the threat completely by cutting or attacking the assailant. I practice all Martial forms that actually that attack. It is the very last thing that any assailant will expect. Close with and destroy.

    The important thing to remember about knife defense is that its damage limitation, There's no magic techniques that will work 100% of the time. These seem more practical than most.

  • @imamba1
    @imamba1 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    The attacker needs to do this or that etc. etc, So much criticism but every attack is different and this expert is teaching a way of dealing with what he sees in front of him. Also worth remembering that most people with a knife don't know their ass from their elbow. This is good stuff.

    • @mrsolodolo5770
      @mrsolodolo5770 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It does, it's called grab and object, or better yet run. Krav teaches you options and these techniques are last resort. Theres many stages of training before this that rely on catching the threat earlier ie, using common objects, distance keeping, kicks and effective ways to escape.

    In this defense, an attacker won't succeed if he stabs and grabs at the same time because the defender is blocking & striking at the same time.

      THERE IS , I ASSISTED INSTRUCTED IN WC DURING THE MID 1980S...IT'S CALLED THE TRIANGLE CONCEPT, INNER GATE "LIVE", OUTER GATE "DEAD ZONE"....THERE REALLY SHOULD BE KICKS SHOWN HERE BECAUSE THAT CAN PREVENT "CLOSING THE GAP`FROM YOUR ATTACKER AND ABOVE ALL, DONT FUCK AROUND TRYING TO DISARM, INFLICT AS MUCH DAMAGE AS IS POSSIBLE TO STOP THE DEADLY ATTACK, WHICH DEFINITELY INCLUDES, GAUGING THE ATTACKERS EYES AND PULLING THEM OUT, GRUESOME, BUT IT'S YOUR LIFE, VALUE IT AND TURN YOURSELF INTO A REMORSELESS DEFENDER `TO SURVIVE!`.

    Interesting initial analysis, but most of the reactions require doing 3 or more moves against just one move of the opponent. It could work if fighting skill difference is in your favor in a huge way. Most likely it would not be the case. For most of us the best defense is running towards a police officer (or guards) while screaming for help. Don't disregard the screaming, because surprised police officer, no matter how well armed, would be in the same position as you were against the assailant.

  • @RobertSpiller
    @RobertSpiller 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    I respect Krav Maga, its a powerful art, but I have to ask you this. What if the guy is holding both arms out....one to grab at anything on your body and the second, to slash you with a knife, and in a real fight, the opponent is not going to be just as passive and relaxed as we see here. So what would you do with someone who is excited, and getting ready to attack and either hurt or kill?

    • @joshuatipton7585
      @joshuatipton7585 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +Robert Spiller The idea, if his attacks are wild, short but fast and they are rapid; Guard, guard guard guard... keep guarding, make lateral movement/ move aside and never stop moving, then get the hell out if you can.
      These techniques are a guard against big, powerful telegraphic attacks. Obviously you will see both.
      If you cannot escape, then you will need to guard continuously. When you see him pull back ready to throw a powerful strike would these methods be sufficient.
      It's important to "cross-train" and train with many approaches, making it dynamic and unpredictable as possible when sparring with a buddy.
      Escape is usually the best means of defense, but if you can see he is obviously trying to power bomb you with a big strike, then you will be able to handle it with these and neutralize him.

    • @joshuatipton7585
      @joshuatipton7585 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Robert Spiller but obviously escape would be the best option. You hear the teacher say it "If I am on the street, you are scared. "Just leave me alone"" and deflect the attacks.

    I appreciate that the "something is better than nothing" approach works, but why would you defend against a Knife attack with open hands? Anyone that is good with a knife would slice them. Better to keep your fists closed. Also one the forward attack he moves backward, pulling his stomach in to avoid the incoming blade. If you keep moving back, you will get cut. Forward or to the side are the only sensible defences here. On the knife in the back defence, he rolls in towards the knife. If I were the attacker, I'd slash his tricep as he moved.

  • @aurodeeproy997
    @aurodeeproy997 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    wrong process. in krav maga the principle is 200% defence(the 90degree defence & body movement away from the attack)+ strike. but here you're just performing the 90degree defence and strike. Improvement needed.

    For all those people who complaining not everybody knows how to use a knife especially with speed and techniques the most of them are punks who trying to steal from you plus when someone does it he is not in better psychologic condition than you as his victim they also fear you or someone who might come in time thats why they stub you so quickly because they cant controll it and they are aiming wrong like crazy so if you want to be more realistic think realistic.

    Take a second look at the thumbnail for this video. Look at the "attacker" in it; his body language. Does he look like someone who is determined to stab and slash someone to death? In too many self defence lessons and classes the "attacker" is passive- nothing like the intensity and violence of a real killer. The only guy on YT I've seen who really goes for reality in that regard is Richard Dimitri.
