  • American Katie Ledecky won bronze in the 400-meter women's freestyle on Saturday, which was billed as one of the most anticipated races of the Paris Olympics.
Ariarne Titmus lead from start to finish La Defense Arena to hand Ledecky a second straight Olympic defeat in an event the American won at Rio de Janeiro in 2016.
"It's a medal. So I'm grateful for that" - said Ledecky after the race as the seven-time Olympic champion took a step closer to becoming America’s most decorated female Olympian.
The 27-year-old, who is competing at her fourth Games, needs two more medals of any kind in Paris.
"It wasn't my best performance... hopefully I can put some things together, in the longer ones, later this week and and the 200, I think we'll have a pretty good relay" - she continued.
Ledecky got emotional speaking about her move to Florida, where she is training with Olympians Bobby Finke and Kieran Smith and the coach Anthony Nesty.
"Just knowing that I race these really fast boys every day, gives me the confidence to go up next to really great racers. So. Yeah, I love this sport so much, I get emotional about it. And I love those people. And that's what carries me through. Keeps me going" - Ledecky broke into tears.
