I have no idea with swimming competitions, but doing long distance training, we really don't use kick. It's like her as well, more on arms. It's because the kick makes you tired more quickly, taking more muscle oxygen, and more effort. When in long distance, and you're doing 5-10KM, the kick will be so tiring. So we just use arms. And it's true! If you look down, as in look straight down and not just tilted, you become faster. Long distance also teaches to extend your arms as much as you can, really stretch your body to its thinnest mode. I'm glad a swimmer like this has this technique, it's pretty cool and actually makes sense for long distance.
Katie only use 1 beat kick in the mid of the race .. this is outrageous style. .. her streamline and bouyancy are so perfect... I think she has put so much effort on her core balance.
@@pradeepalhan Probably she too busy train to spend that amount of thyme on analysis bear claws tube much canal sis lead to two much second guessing of smooth tech unique.
Does she actually know what she's doing or is she just a natural phenom. Random comparison but Ronnie O'Sullivan doesn't have a clue how to explain what he's doing on a snooker table but he's just the best when he's on form
I've always been a poor freestyler, compared to the other strokes, and today I had a great swimmer look at it underwater. He said 1. my hips were low and my head is a bit high like I'm swimming uphill and 2. I'm using arm strength instead of relying on hip rotation to generate power. I always thought I just needed to get stronger at pulling but I'm excited by the idea of using less arm power and more rotational drive. Hopefully that will make it easier to generate speed with less fatigue if I can make the changes.
Liu Zige's butterfly please and I would like to have your opinion about her 200 butterfly WR which I think is very hard to break and it will stand for a long time. Thank you!
Analyze Romanchuk - especially his hand entry and the beginning of his catch ... it's super weird. (Saw it in the underwater shots of the Tokyo 1500 final.)
I suggest you analyze Nathan Adrian and distance swimmer cindarella story Bobby Finke and remind us of his bio. Might be fun to see what some of these elite swimmers eat days leading up to big race.
Great video. The perfect follow up in my view would be to analyze Janet Evans. While Ledecky does everything “right”, Evans did everything “wrong”, but was a champion anyway. Do those champions with “bad form” have unique attributes which make the “mistakes”’correct for their body types? Or would they be even faster if their technique was “correct”? (Outside swimming, another example of this is the sprinter Michael Johnson).
Thanks for your support Matt, and great remarks! Different body types definitely cause different stroke techniques, but it all comes down to efficiency: reducing drag and increasing speed multiplied by effort!
Can we analyze Lily King? She's got that slight turn to the side with every breath, looks like she's peeking at the competition, but I think it's just a hitch? Or is that purposeful, a la Mel Stewart?
joseph schooling swim analysis pls. he won at rio and i was wondering HOW given it’s his debut. there’s no video about his swim stroke on the internet so your analysis would be great

I disagree with the analysis regarding Katie's kick not being "a driver." I've seen other videos of her kick from beneath the surface. Speaking from my armchair, I think she uses that two-beat kick to propel her forward because that method packs a wallop. And from other videos, she appears to use it as her primary kick, although not exclusively, adding the flutter kick along with the one-beat kick. I started using the two-beat kick myself after seeing a middle and long distance Korean swimmer using a two-beat kick
All I can think of is: if I'm a competitor, I'm one of the finest swimmers on the planet- no doubt. BUT this girl is making me look like a child! At 7:10 she's already kicked off and powering up ... and her competitors (worthy opponents!) aren't even past the flags going in! I'd be contemplating my life choices. At 7:25 "... it looks like she's destroying the world record ..." (nah - she'd be destroying my self-esteem as a competitive swimmer!)
I am not seeing the same thing The above water shots show she is mot even close to having the body half way out of the water And being out of the water is not better and she knows it In fact the announcer even goes in and on about her staying under the water for 10 meters. As for the head going up and down that is intentional. She submerges the head on purpose Later he talks about the gallop. Part of the gallop IS the head going down. And then the buoyancy brings it up
Ariane Titmus swims fast too! Maybe pay a bit more respect to Katie’s rivals. Arnie has always respected and acknowledged her rivals, especially Katie. This is not often reciprocated by both Katie and her supporters. Just my thoughts.
With her speed every athlete in the world wanna be Katie Ledecky….all female swimmers has to extremely harder to be Abel to keep up with her in the pool.

That was a ONE beat kick. She employs 1,2 and 4 on her longer events. A great skill to master.
"Leg's are for Dragging" - said every successful middle and distance swimmer ever.
Legs are only for emergencies😂
10:01 This is the smoothest front crawl I have ever seen. no splash! WOW!
Thanks for the analyses, Fares.
It is smooth, but look upo some old videos of Becky Adlington. Her stroke was on a nother level of smooth.

Sometimes unorthodox is better for that specific person. The chaos and unpredictability adds to the poop.

I don't get this concept of 'paddle' / 'high-elbow'.. instead of using your back muscles, you only kind of lean on your forearm strength.
She is doing hybrid driven freestyle that’s why her head is up like that………
I reckon it's the milk.
Would be great to hear how Katy breathes…it appears that she only exhales thru her nose
Short follow through.
Compare it to male swimmers.......
Why?
