I'm still saddened to see what happened to an historic club like Bordeaux. It doesn't feel that long ago that Gourcuff was France's priceless gem, the stalwart of a new generation
Yeah I always had a soft spot for them since watching them as a kid, I even have a shirt from that era with Gourcuff on the back, and seeing them now like this, is very sad, hope they once return to their spot at the top
Another issue is Bordeaux’s stadium. They don’t own it meaning that the match day revenue is incredibly low compared to teams that own the stadium. Matmut Atlantique is also really big… It accepts 40k people, which made sense in early 2010s with Bordeaux’s good form, but now it has become a big burden. What’s also worth mentioning is that Ligue 2 is no Bundesliga 2 so the chances of them managing to fill the stadium are very low.
With my club Vitesse it's kind of the same we dont own the stadium so where pretty much fucked and to make it worse if we get relegated the club basically stops existing
Hey Maqwell, i would love to see a video about 1. FC Kaiserslautern. They were a big club back then in Germany but fell down to the 3rd League. This year though they get the chance to come back to the 2. Bundesliga with an relegation match against Dreden.
Wow- that name caused a flashback. You’re right, I remember this team from years ago but I never came to think whatever happened to them. I had no idea they dropped to 3rd Div
@@bryanjimenez2125 last season they were almost relegated then a new coach came in and took them to third his first season. The club responded by firing him after the final match of the season right before the first leg of the promotion games. I don't follow them a lot so I don't know if something happened behind the scenes but it's a headscratcher why they would do this but maybe they can still get promoted
Gourcuff was a seriously brilliant player. When he did eventually sign for OL, Fergie was singing his praises and trying hard to get him to Manchester. Gourcuff and his brilliance at Manchester is one of the greatest what if moments in football history
Funny to see how Gerard Lopez bought Lille a few years back (before selling us ffs) and in our first season we finished 17th, avoiding relegation on the penultimate gameweek. He seems to have an adaptation period which is very bad for the clubs he acquires.
Im a Boavista fan and our in our first season with him we escaped relegation with 10 minutos to the end of the last match. Absolute madness. This season was a lot calmer and finished mid table tho. Things look decent at the moment.
I remember collecting their cards for CL album when I was younger, I remember Gourcuff and Gouffran, sad to see them in a position like this, I hope they bounce back
Thought I’d add a little more insight on this, from what I’ve read about this: There isn’t only tension in the board, there’s also tension between players and fans, as shown with Koscielny (sorry if I spelled his name wrong) and goalkeeper Benoit Costil, who, if I’m not mistaken, have BOTH been accused of racism by the club’s ultras. The club is a shitshow and they look to be going down alongside Saint Ettiene in my opinion.
As a german tourist I visited the home opener in August. And after those 90 minutes of disgraceful football I already knew that Girondins would have big troubles ahead. I feel sorry for the fans at Matmut Atlantique who give their all and get rewarded by that "performance" on the pitch.
as a Marseille fan living near Nantes, i can’t help but laugh at the fall off of Bordeaux tho it’s still sad to see giants of french football go out like that
I remember when we were linked with Malcolm from Barcelona in 2019 and thought that we would get Bordeaux Malcolm. It feels like that was a decade ago now that Bordeaux are relegated. And i thought they would reach the UCL in 18/19.
As someone who started supporting Bordeaux around 2018, it’s just sad seeing how quickly we’ve fell. I just really hope we can rebuild this hierarchy asap cause Ligue 2 is not a place for Bordeaux.
I fell in love with the club in 2009 as a 12 year old kid and I even bought a Bordeaux jersey this year in my vacation, so sad to see the downfall of this club :( I hope they can achieve a promotion asap, Ligue 1 wont be the same
Look at St.Etienne too they are going to get relegated too, so sad. I can still remember when the Pogba brothers played against each other in the Europa league.
I remember when Americans took over Bordeaux, they signed Paulo Sousa as a coach to change the style of their team...without spending money. American owners wanted for him to place English youngster Josh Maja to play. Even despite the fact that Portuguese preffered 35 y.o. Jimmy Briand, who was then one of the few Bordeaux players that performed pretty well. They paid Sousa so much that they thought he would do everything they want. Instead Sousa bottled, Bordeaux in 2019 was already in a downfall with one of the smallest point per game ratio in the club's history. And then he got sacked. I know it, because few months later he was Poland's coach. Damn.
Filling for bankruptcy is and dissolving are two different things.if they filled for the first thing it means they get administratively relegated. So they basically exist at an semi pro level.if however the second thing happens then it's gets tricky.
I'm absolutely addicted to your channel and your storytelling. I'd love to see a video about the state of Irish Football and the Irish League. The league for the first time looked like it was making money until this week where some match fixing scandals came about
Update : -Lopez is still here but it got a bit better i'd say -we did not win the last match so we got relegated to Ligue 2 -we are curently 2nd in Ligue 2 and the promotion will probably be determined in the next match against Metz who is tied with the 3rd (Sochaux) -90% of our team left so we rely on young talents and borrows
- Bordeaux got relegated to the national - Liverpool almost saves the club by buying it. It fell apart and immediately bordeaux dropped their appeal - Bordeaux surrender professionalism - Bordeaux folded and filed bankruptcy - Bordeaux is DEAD
As german it looks so familiar.A league dominated by one team and a lot of clubs with big history are struggling and desperately try to find some money what causes more problems
There's no room for asking if they'll relegate : they need to score a minimum of 12 goals against Brest to have ,only, a chance to be in the playoffs spot. Ligue 2 it is.
This club made me realize that French spelling makes no sense at all. As a child I always assumed that they would be written Bordo. I am still shellshocked to have found out, that they write „eaux“, so almost every vowel except „o“, to make an „o“-sound.

The problem with French football is the owners not all of them because we have good examples like Lyon, Strasbourg, Lens, Nice, Rennes. However unfortunately there are so many mismanaged clubs ( marseille, bordeaux, st etienne, Nantes even if they won the French cup this year). What is amazing in the French league is the youth development we are so strong in producing every year new and amazing talents who get sold to the leagues above us. These clubs win European titles or national titles in Spain Germany Italy England. What we start to see however is the return of French players to the French league. It is positive for the ligue 1 to keep our best young players and to get our talents who left the country back for experience.
