Sorry we pronounced salute wrong. FYI, we had an air conditioner breakdown and had to fix it which delayed the dinner a lot. So, if you think mom and dad are not as perky, it’s because it was a really late night 😁
They are trying:
1 Aperitivo - Crodino con fichi e prosciutto (Itailan botanical drink with figs wrapped with prosciutto with honey lemon dressing. Also served some nuts and olives)
2. Antipasto - Fiori di zucca in pastella ripieni (Fried zucchini flowers stuffed with fresh mozzarella and anchovies)
3. Primo - Gnocchi burro e salvia (Gnocchi with sage butter)
4. Secondo - Osso buco e polenta taragna (Braised veal shank with gremolada sauce, served with corn and buckwheat polenta)
5. Contorno - Carciofi Ammollicati (Artichoke stuffed with toasted breadcrumbs and pecorino cheese)
6. Insalata - Insalata di arance e finocchio (Orange and fennel salad with orange dressing and toasted pine nuts)
7. Formaggi e frutta - A variety of cheeses and fruit
8. Dolce - Cannoli (Cannolis with chocolate and pistachios)
9. Digestivo - Caffè (Italian Espresso)

@@malloottjust have to pay attention. That was her polite way of saying she didn't like it. Everyone emotes different. It's not wrong just different from the bluntness you're used to.
I, conversely, like people like her. She's tactful and mindful of the effort of the chef. Even if the foods not to her liking she acknowledges the effort not her disapproval.
She also shows how everyone is not the same and to look for the subtle ways she demures or approves.
There's nothing wrong with different. It's an opportunity to see the world from another perspective.
From an Italian: all that looks delicious. You also did things that are not very know outside of Italy, like the ossobuco for example. Have you lived in Italy by any chance?

É assurdo ma solitamente noi conosciamo ciò che conoscono gli americani o comunque gli stati a noi più vicini, in realtà diverse parti del mondo gradiscono diversi piatti della cucina italiana a seconda dei gusti e le influenze locali.
Comunque sarebbe curioso a sapersi come é venuta l'idea dell'ossobuco perché effettivamente é un piatto anomalo per noi nella rappresentanza del cibo italiano, non che non sia un ottimo candidato.

@@celestef9727I don't know if you're italian or not, but ossobuco is from the north of italy and indeed meat and pickled things is a thing we often do in northern italy: mustard pickled fruits, pickled onions, raw tomatoes, eggplant, zucchini...

I love how genuine your parent's approach to your cooking is! Dad is *clearly* the more adventurous one with a more open mind and palate, but Mom is always trying to make the most out of flavors she doesn't like right out the gate with her trusty kimchi or gochujang! This is the heart of what sharing food culture is all about, and I wish my late buddy Youjeen was able to see this! I can remember us getting off our shifts at the Panera we both worked at and cooking up food at his place, picking up some good Mexican beers up on the way to his spot and talking about his family's Korean roots while cooking up some bulgogi tacos or whatever. What a nice memory to have been evoked from your content, so thank you for doing what you do.

As an Italian, I have to say that everything looks delicious and well cooked. The recipes look very authentic too! The only odd thing I see is the pairing of some foods, as some are typical from the north, while some are typical in the south and they are normally not eaten together (there is no rule against this, though!) Also, the structure of the meal was very authentic!

Note to Americans and Italian Americans: this is REAL italian food and it was cooked just like we do in Italy. Nothing against you but I can't watch you butchering our CUISINE any longer. No Garlic bred, no Fettuccini Alfredo, no Chiken Parm, no Spaghetti Meatballs, no Gabagool. Just real, fresh food. Thanks for your job. You really honoured our food culture
