I can’t believe I stumbled across this video. 50 yrs ago my mother me made sweatshirts with knitted or crocheted yokes just like this. I can’t wait to try this! The memories of those garments are rushing back. THANK YOU. THANK YOU. THANK YOU!
You're welcome!
Totally love this, we can now add a beautiful feminine touch to ordinary T-Shirts
Wonderful! Enjoy :)
You are an answer to my unspoken prayer. I haven’t crocheted in decades due to debilitating health issues. I wasn’t sure my mind could grasp how to do it any more. Your instructions are so detailed and clear, thank you! I’m looking forward to getting the materials to do this project.
P.S. I’m sorry that there are people who are posting critical comments. It doesn’t matter if you say blanket stitch. What matters is that you are sharing your art with joy!
Hi from down under. I can't believe I fell on your tutorial. I've just purchased a few plain t shirts from Kmart for around the house. I wreck my shirts every year. I'm 69yo and just taught myself to crochet. Half way through my first granny blanket. I can't wait to jazz up my new shirts for summer. I may even shorten the sleeves, but some singlets and do the same. I love all of your work. Thank you!
Wonderful! Enjoy :)
What a wonderful way to dress up a plain t shirt! The possibilities are endless.
I learned how to crochet when I was just a kid and I remember crocheting the edges of baby cloth diapers. They'd turn out so cute. Thank you for reminding me about that beautiful part of my childhood.
Wonderful! Happy New Year!
That is fabulous! Plus you gave me an additional idea! Many of today’s tops are cut far to low for me & I usually put an insert in. I can take those tops & just crochet them together at the split or add to the neckline to make them more modest. New subscriber as of now!! Thank you 😊
Wow! I spent my entire teenage years cutting T-shirts and never realized I could’ve made something so beautiful. You certainly take the terror out of crochet! This is simply stunning and I cannot imagine the endless amounts of possibilities. Thank you so much for sharing
You crochet like I do, right off your finger. That's how I learned how to crochet. Glad to know I'm not the only one. Cute top.
Thank you! Hope it helps you to learn this fun project!
Oh and yes please create more videos like this for embellishing our clothes with crochet. Love this!❤
You got it!
I have been doing this with baby tee shirts for a few years now and it transforms an old plain onesie into a darling little shirt for baby girls. I did this on the top of a dress I have that was starting to get a bit worn. It covered up the problem and made for a beautiful neck edge! Thank you for the video. It really is a lovely way to transform an ordinary plain piece of clothing into something truly personalized and beautiful.
Theresia Smolevitz can u share one of ur pic with me...baby t shirt crochet
With a grandbaby girl coming in May I was just wondering if I could do this on a couple of little t-shirts but onesies what a great idea!!!
Use to crochet manyyyyyyy years ago, wanted to pick it back up now around the holidays looking for something to give to friends when they come over for dinner as a gift, I love your videos, easy to follow then a book
Thank you for this awesome tutorial! I hate that choking feeling of crew-neck t-shirts and this is a beautiful way to make them comfortable to wear.
Thank you!
Thee crocheted T shirt was simply beautiful!
can't believe I'm seeing this great video 3 years later!! Love this, with be putting it on my TO DO PROJECT LIST. Thanks Kristen!!
Seeing it for the first time 5 years later.
You are so generous to share your creativity and inspiring others. Thank you so very much 🙏🏼
Mind, BLOWN! I have been crocheting for years, and never once thought of doing this. I have many shirts that I have to wear a tank under to prevent exposing too much of me. I am going to do the blanket stitch right on the existing shirt (I don't want to get rid of any of the material) and crochet them closer to my actual neck. THANK YOUUUUUUUU!
Thanks for sharing! I'm so glad you are happy :)
I am now a faithful follower of your tutorials. I was looking to expand my collection of craftsmanship and you helped me succeed in that. Thanks. I love this.
Well I wish the final version with you wearing it wasn’t all covered up with links to 4 other videos. I’ll try to find it on your website. Thank you for the information. I’m looking to embellish some tank tops with crochet. I must have missed you telling what size yarn to use.
I love this and can't wait to try it! Here's a hint for threading the needle -- fold the end of the thread back on itself to create a small loop and thread the loop into the eye.
To crochet and personalize my jeans would be nice. Have not tried to crochet in 40 years and loved emblishing a t-shirt. Thanks! Love to see more like this.
That’s great, Carol! I’m working on more of them :)
I love this. You have turned a run of the mill dollar tee-shirt into a boutique piece that has no boundaries. You could add crocheted flowers and leaves on the top made w scraps of embroidery thread, or pretty buttons down the front, or applique or anything! Wow! I am so doing this. Love your video, subscribing!
Hi. I was skimming comments and wanted to tell you that I really ❤ your ideas for embellishment! Smart thinking! It's inspiring. Thanks for sharing your ideas! 🙂
You have solved a t-shirt dilemma that I have been faced with. I've lost 90+ pounds in the past year. I'm also living in a country that the people are short. I cannot buy off the rack anything. I have about a dozen or so t-shirts that are WAY too large for me. I think that I can make the shoulders narrower by crocheting the yoke and then just take in the side seams to the sleeves. I'm still working on the idea but you have really started me on the way! Thank you! Now if reducing the size of jeans were as easy!
Congratulations! You can alter clothing in many, many ways with crochet. I will be making more videos, too :)
Janice MacEachern that is Awesome with your weight loss, congratulations.
Not knowing your age may I suggest cutting the outer seam (and how ever many in/cm you need to take in) of your jeans & tightly crocheting them back together. If you want to keep the belt loops remove them first, then reattach when you’re finished. Just an idea! This video is really inspirational. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Absolutely beautiful. I'm going to do this on my daughter's Star Wars t-shirts. She always hopes there are t-shirts for ladies but they're either for men or little girls. This will do the trick. Thank you. She'll be thrilled.
Sounds fantastic!
Pearls as an embellishment would be gorgeous on this!
I really like this idea. Looks doable even for a novice crocheter. Thank you!
It really looks much more stylish with the crochet enhancement. I will definitely transform some of my T-shirts with this wonderful idea. Thanks for sharing!
Wonderful!
Last summer. I bought a tank top like this. I've wanted to learn this technique forever. I don't understand all the crochet terminology, but follow by seeing very well. Thanks!
I never thought to do this sort of crocheting on t-shirts, will definitely try this out. Look forward to more of your brilliant ideas.
I love white tshirts!!!!!!!!!!
And, this one is great! TFS!!! 💗xo
You are so welcome!
Thank you! Just the right video for a project I was working on. Not a t-shirt, but a remake of a top I had, that I didn't like the collar. Also made a belt to match. I have this video saved in my favorites and have watched it many times.
I need to come up with new adjectives. I've been binge watching your videos most of today. How many times can I say beautiful, Love that, So cute? LoL 😂😍
I'm going to say adorable this time. Even if I've used it before, it fits ☺️👍
Ketogenic Kim thank you very much!!! I appreciate your support greatly.
@@KristinOmdahl thank you for replying but you don't have to reply to every one of my comments. You are very busy lady. I'm spending my day with you so just know I'm having a wonderful time and my creative juices are flowing ☺️👍
This is AWESOME. So many possibilities! And I can finally add some elegance to my plain T-shirts. Love this video!!! XD
Yay! Thank you!

Glad it was helpful!
Stunning can’t wait to try this. I have only just discovered your channel but I’m wowed and think I will be looking through all your tutorials. FABULOUS.
Welcome to my channel!
I've watched this a cpl yrs ago .. I'm just now doing it. I love this!!!! So simple yet so lovely. I appreciate u so much! Thank u.
What a wonderful tutorial! I loved how you explained it.
I made a poncho and the neck was too loose so I used this to make it smaller and with the added picot stitch makes a nice touch.
Now I’m m excited to try this on a t-shirt.
Thank you.
Ich habe es genauso gehäkelt. Das Ergebnis war spektakulär 👍🏻👏🏻👌🏻😍
Wonderful!
Great project! Not difficult or time consuming and yielding a beautiful, wearable garment that looks great on you!
Thank you!
Love the video with all the corrections. Makes me feel normal. Thank you.
In the UK this is known as the 'Blanket Stitch'. Used a lot many years ago like in the 1900s to finish off wool blankets. Can be used in embroidery or knitting/crocheting to make a nice edge.
It is also here in America, but if you noticed at the beginning of the video this was something she did live for the first time, so there was no pre-thought about the hem being rolled down or anything but the actual crocheting of the collar which I think looks fantastic!
It is still a blanket stitch here in america.
I'm in Canada and yes, that's the blanket stitch here too....
In South Africa we also call it a blanket stitch, but we work from right to left, not left to right.
Very cute idea. The crochet adds that extra "WOW" to the old T-shirt. Thank you for the idea and pattern. I'm only sorry it took me so long to find this video.
Thank you for watching!
This is such a great way to alter a boring Tshirt Neckline. Thanks for sharing this easy solution.
Thank you!
Hello, Kristin, I loved your tee shirt. I did one in purple as a gift for a co-worker, and it came out great. I purchased additional material from Walmart to do some more in different colors. Again thank you so very much.
I am delighted to know you enjoyed this :)
xoxo,
Kristin
That’s very pretty! I will be trying it on some T-shirts.
Thank you so much for your video. This is so beautiful. I love it, I can do this. I did not know this was so easy to do. All I have ever done is crocheted baby blankets for my grand babies & afghans. I can’t wait to do this to some of my t-shirts. So excited, Thank you again
You're welcome! Enjoy :)
Kristin,
Loved your idea, everyone's comments and the video! I am learning how to crochet with your videos.

You're welcome 😊
Finally got to this video on your YT channel. Been watching all of them and Love everything. I've already made one of your lacey shawls and can't wait to do this to an inexpensive T-shirt. It looks so much more expensive. Just lovely. Wanted to say what an amazing teacher you are and believe me because I have watched many other crochet channels. Thanks again for sharing your time and knowledge with all of us. You are a Gem. 💗
Somebody below in the comments said adding pearls or beading would be cute and I was thinking that would be beautiful especially right along the cut line.. just love this.
This is so beautiful...... Pls have some more posted.....

Thank you so much! Fun to make perfect video. I also enjoyed making your Key West Shawl in which I added picots to last row. I just love your creations. I will have many more pretty things to wear because of you. You rock! 🤗
Thank you for watching the video! I'm glad you like my knit and crochet patterns. If I can help you with anything, please let me know :)
It's beautiful, and I love the step by step instruction although I got lost sometimes. GREAT!
Thank you for this video! I want to crochet trim around sleeves of some of my tee shirts to make them a bit longer. I have recently lost a good amount of weight and my arms just don't look good in very short sleeves. I would think the concept would basically be the same although probably wouldn't need the decreases. I'm excited to try!
You are so welcome! You are correct, you won't need decreases to elongate the sleeves. Let me know how it turns out! xoxo, Kristin
Hermoso trabajo ! Lo haré para mí!

I love it. Great job and detailed instructions.
Thank you!
So glad I stumbled upon your channel always loved crochet T-shirt’s but used bought lace NOW I can do it myself thanks so very much 🤗
I've done crochet and knit on the top of sweatshirts, also. It really dresses them up, and makes a cheap sweat shirt look good enough to shop in, or even go to work in.
finally someone who holds their hook a yarn like myself lol thanks for the tutorial needing to replace the worn lace on one of my favorite tops.
I loved this project. Well done. it looks simply lovely
You can work directly into the fabric with a hook but using a very small size 6 or 7 steel hook. I have done this many times. Just a suggestion for y'all.
Sunt foarte.frumoase modelele și explicațiile. Regret ca nu mai pot sa lucrez din cauza vârstei și a ochilor. Felicitări.
I'm sooooo trying this!!! Thanks for sharing, Kristin. Greetings from Argentina.
This is so beautiful and looks easy enough that I think even I could do it!
Wonderful!
Trish Bresolin lovely and does look classy as well as easy,,turnsa planinjust as ordinary and possibly cheap t,,,-shirt into. A designer garment.
Great tutorial vid Kristin, thank you for sharing. Very pretty.
