This is sort of an update version of my silicone making. Here's my older mold tutorial which also can be used for non flatback pieces. • How to Make profession...
Vacuuming is NOT necessary if the mold manufacturer states that you don’t need to. Usually low viscosity silicone doesn’t need this process.

There's nothing I like more than when someone comes up with an unusual way to fix a problem. I loved your video. New subscriber? YES!
The pot life for this silicone seems to vary quite a bit depending on the amount mixed and temprature. I've actually found out that I can extend the pot life to 3+ hours if I chill the silicone in the fridge before mixing and put the mixed silicone back in the fridge for 30-60 min for the bubbles to release on their own. It allows you to get bubble-free castings without a vacuum chamber or pressure pot!

I use legos for making moulds as well. I love it because you always have the correct size and if you put petroleum jelly on the legos (but make sure that non of the petroleum jelly touches the items you want to make the mould off) the mould will easily slide out of the lego "box" once you are done

Hi, thanks for your video. I have trouble with silicone seeping under my coaster blanks. I've tried contact paper. Have you glued yours down?
Yes you can glue it down if you wish, I mentioned in the video that if you want to glue it down ditch the self laminating sheet and use a non porous surface instead
most seem to use hot glue

I use hot glue!
@@Bonstergirl1 Using hot glue is cheap, but it is harder for the resin to come out of the mold.

I saw lot of silicone mold making videos and your video is the best by far. I'm curious...if you use vacuum chamber every time when you work with resin. (I always fight with bubbles lol)
{씬디짱}'s Craft Town thank you! I only use the vacuum chamber with resin if I’m doing a clear piece that needs to be bubble free. I never use it on pieces I color

I'm so glad I found your channel because I'm trying to learn how to make my own flatback charms that I like turning into jewelry. So far I've been buying slime charms off Amazon but I want to make my own. Do you by any chance know how to make those?
Katrina Repine I had no idea what slime charms were so I had to look them up lol. You can definitely make your own by making your own mold and casting them with resin or clay.

Have you used plastilina instead of the laminating sheet with the let's resin silicone? I tried it and everywhere except the bottom where it was touching the clay cute right but the side touching clay is sticky... so I tried packing tape and it worked... however my blanks are a lil thicker then I need which is one reason I like the clay... please help!!!

Thank you! No it does not need the pressure pot. I used a vaccum to remove the bubbles. However it’s not necessary as the micro bubbles won’t affect the final casting.

You would have to use food safe specific silicone for that. This one is not

Thank you! This method will not work for 3d pieces. You would need to make a 2 piece mold
Thank you AmyMade, an easy to follow video, from an experienced user ;-)... and loved the lego and rice tips. So can't find a mold for what I want so wanted to make a resin mold. I wanted to ask you what you prefer to use to 1) color the mold and resin and 2) will the silicon you used create a "glossy" surface, and if not, what do you use to get that shine on the resin.
Hi. I never color my mold. To me, it’s an unnecessary step lol. For coloring resin, I use pigments made for resin both powder and liquid. So...silicone basically makes an exact copy of whatever you’re making your mold out of. So if your original is shiny/glossy, your casted resin pieces will be shiny as well. If your original is not shiny, you would have to clear coat it with a gloss spray before making your mold.
What type of sheet are you using as the base?
Do you need a vacuum when mixing, I'm just starting out so I'm self supported
It’s not necessary for this brand of silicone. You’ll get bubbles but it won’t affect the casting

What brand of resin that you use
May I ask why you use that sealed vacuum is it only to remove bubbles or does it serve another purpose as well? Great video!

Oh! I also forgot, somehow I didn't have rice 😳 but I used buckwheat and that was brilliant as well. I won't the amount of resin needed on the outsides of my molds so no more quessing
So I used your method and even purchased the same contact paper and silicone rubber. When I removed the contact paper 12 hours later, the bottom where the paper was is sticky. Does that eventually cure? Did the adhesive of the contact paper react with the rubber?
That never happened to me. Unless they changed the laminate. I haven’t bought a new one since this video. It could be the rubber reacting. If its still sticky after you let it cure longer, I suggest dusting it with baby powder to remove the tackiness.

It’s not necessary if you’re using low viscosity silicone like this one.👍🏻

Mimi Beloved no, I mentioned in the video that it’s not necessary as the bubbles won’t affect the casting. The reason I did it was because I wanted to show how the vacuum chamber works as some subscribers were wondering. But personally, I like my clear/translucent molds to be bubble free (visually) so I always use the vac.

@@AmyMade sorry, the cup that you used to mix the silicone before you poured it. Was it a hard plastic cup that you could peel the harden silicone out of or is it just a one time use thing?
Yes it’s made of plastic called polypropylene. Also known as PP5. But with silicone, pretty much you can use cups made of any non porous material. Cured silicone will peel right off and you can reuse it

Hi there, I recently bought this type of silicone and used it. I mixed properly and let it set for over 24 hours but the top (side where the pieces are) is still sticky and the pieces had some uncured silicone on them but inside the actual mold spots are fine. Did I do something wrong or is there a way to fix this? Thanks.
Nyla Saghir I mean, the silicone is sticky but should not be tacky. What are you laying your pieces on? Maybe the silicone is reacting to that? Try putting some baby powder on the sticky portion to reduce the tackiness.
Also I’m wondering if you mixed enough silicone. Mixing too little of an amount can cause it to not cure
Crafter's Delights by Amy it's possible I could have not mixed correctly but since I work with resin, I thought I had that down pat haha 😅 also I used contact paper as my tape but I am going to try again using actual tape to see if I run into the same issue.
Where did you get the tea cup cabochons?
I made them. I hand sculpted them with clay
Did you find that where the sticky paper made the mold sticky? I bought everything from Mr. Resin to the laminateing sheet and logos (but I bought clear Legos, I'm that extra). But the molds are sticky where the laminating sheet was exposed to the silicone.
Yea it’s reacting to the adhesive. Use something different. Try contact paper, packaging tape….however it could also be the silicone. You can try a different brand too

Yes I know. But maybe the seller changed the manufacturer/distributor. I’ve been using the first one I bought and hadn’t had any issue with it.

How necessary is the vacuum chamber? I've never made molds before, but I'm wanting to duplicate some 3d printed parts, and this silicone and method looks the most user friendly and affordable, but if the vacuum chamber is a necessity, that makes it a bit less straight forward for me.

Here is another tip that I forgot last time i posted my comment.
If you dont have a vacuum chamber & to have as litte bubbles as possible I put the whole thing into the fridge for about an hour after pouring the silicone.
This slows down the curing process and allows the bubbles to rise so they can pop

Yes you can make molds out of food. Just a lot of clean up will be involved after demolding

@@ld-23 also better to dry out the bread before use. Put it in the oven in low heat until it is dry and hard like croutons.

I don’t use laminating sheets anymore. I recommend using transfer tape instead.
@@AmyMade I have used transfer tape before, now I use packing tape, but I want something bigger and stronger possibly? Saw your video and was wondering if laminating sheets were better.. but I guess not haha. What transfer tape do you use personally? Does it work well for you in the hold strength?
I mixed my silicone for 5 min and it started setting in mid pour??? what do you think happened?
Check the pot life / working time of the silicone
@@AmyMade I bought it off ebay... it says DecorRom on the bottles. couldn't find pot life in the description but it's about a minute.
That’s probably why then. If the pot life is only 1 minute, you have to work really fast before it starts curing on you. The one I used has a pot life of at least 15 minutes
@@AmyMade I was just sayin that that was my experience, the description on ebay didn't say how long or short the pot life was. but you wouldn't have time to vac so it seems like a bad product. lots of bubbles

Yes! This fast curing resin cures white so any color you add will make it pastel color
