Do all the strips needed for the lamination have to be the full length? I can imagine it is quite difficult to get 20+ foot strips. Or can shorter strips be used, as long as you make sure you do not overlap the joints?
I am working on this, plans anyway, a simplified version of the frames will make up a plan set for models that can also be scaled down further if 1/4 scale is a bit too large. I'm doing it in between other things but will share more info on this further down the line 👍
Please make your plans for the 1/4 scale available in .svg format or .Ai (illustrator ); so that I can cut the parts out with my laser cutter! Count me in for a set of plans.
I'm not really sure how suitable Poplar is for boatbuilding, I haven't heard of it being used before so it probably wouldn't be my first choice for this boat.
These are an absolute joy to watch.
Nice work
👏
Mini size, mega beautiful

Yes absolutely, shorter pieces can be used providing the joints are significantly staggered between layers.
epic !
I hope you're looking into RC kits for 6' models. I'd help pay for that if it was necessary. Really enjoying this series Dan keep up the great work.

I normally output all the parts in .dxf which presumably will work for laser cutting as well?
Really enjoying this series!
What a great project. Why not do some indexing holes in the templates so you can easily align the multiple layers of the jig?
Yes that would certainly help, especially with the layers slightly seperated.
Uhh, on the full size boat,, do you think making frames and stringers out of poplar would've ok??
