Very kind of you mate but yes I've got to give credit to the videos that were already out at the time of my doing this job initially that guided me to start with however hoped to bridge some gaps and show my way of doing it
Awesome video, I just replaced the light bulb under the shifter with out any issues. Thanks to your video. Also, with regards to the two side nuts on the center console you can easily access them by sliding the front seats forward.
Really well done and such an easy to follow and understand tutorial. I’ll be taking on this task in the near future and will order the new faceplate off eBay as suggested as well. Great job mate👍 Thanks for the trouble you went through to video it 😊
Great video! It's good to be able to get this done without damaging anything, but if you're unfortunate enough to have your shift control bush fail and the cable come off while you're out, you'll need the emergency procedure. Basically, you just take the shifter and top trim/surround off (as well as the main bolts) and prise the fascia out with extreme prejudice, breaking a few of its bolt sockets. It ain't pretty, but you're rolling again in five minutes. 🤣 It sits in there fine when you shove it back in.
Mine is still like new, but i do park under car-port, the great thing about these crumpled up gear surrounds is a tell-tale sign that car has spent its time in the sun..something to look out for, also grey looking trim on outside of car is another one, no matter how shiny the car looks in the pictures.
Hey mate thanks for the informative video helped me heaps. Console still apart as the new t5 globe I've put it in won't light up when I chuck my headlights on. Not in selector yet as socket plug won't go in as before. Any recommendations or ideas on what to do? Cheers
No dramas mate. Interesting, well the bulb should light up straight away if it's a healthy bulb even if it's not placed into the selector housing. Perhaps your bulb is bad? And as for it not going into the housing.. It's quite fiddly if you haven't removed the whole centre console, not alot of room to work, I have small hands so makes it a little easier to rotate the plug but check the tabs on the hukb holder line up with the tab cut outs of the selector housing. Good luck mate. If you can, get a known working t5 globe and put that in and see if there is power coming in, or a test light if you have one.
Hey bro from what I remember no electronics plug into this plate. Other than the bulb illumination light globe holder that lights up inside it, nothing else was connected to it.
No dramas mate thankfully there was no extra steps needed for putting everything back together just make sure that you take the opportunity to put a brand new globe in the shifter selection light bulb holder while you've gone to this effort
@@FordMercGuy I agreed. There seems to be so many things in these vehicles that they went the cheap route and they then wear out. The air mixer shaft should never have been made out of plastics once all it does in every car is eventually break and is a pain to get to. I have a 2004.
@@FordMercGuy Hey man, my car doesn't shift in to tiptronic? But park, reverse and the rest all work perfectly, it's when I shift in to tiptronic the gears don't show up on the dash, any thoughts?
The only thing that didn't go back as undone were the two small release clips at the bottom of the rear console compartment, couldn't get them to line up with the holes eventhough everything else lined up perfectly. Luckily there are those two roofing TEK screws (really ??????) to secure the rear of the console that Ford sourced from Bunnings..........honestly what a joke.
Thanks mate yes seize the opportunity while everything is open. Have you seen my video on the hidden factory cigarette lighter barrel light bulb holder?
Haha I had everything unscrewed but can’t lift the whole centre console out which is why I went searching and found this. At least I know I am doing everything right so far. Now I can’t slide the brake covering off!!! 😵💫 I’m heading towards getting out the air mixer shaft. Yep. By myself. I’m a 50 year old girl 🤪
Agreed mate! There is a way to remove the whole centre console without needing to remove many screws along the edges like I did. But this was the way I managed to get it done. I missed the bolts near the handbrake I believe.
@@FordMercGuy there is a much easier way in the big section under the lid of the console there are 2 little push clips this will release the back section of the console without taking all the back screws out
@@FordMercGuy if you were to remove the handbrake assy, it would be advisable to pull the driver seat out so you could texta around the bolts to ensure same adjustment when you replace it. Mine is in pieces your way now. The bits sticking down on diagonally opposite corners under the shift plate which look like they are threaded, can be squeezed slightly (they are split to allow a tiny narrowing, oddly in 2 different orientations, probably an access thing), to enable an easier lift before the slidey wiggle to remove the plate. Hope this makes somebody's job easier, it gave me a few moments...
Yeah mate, I call all dealerships: stealerships. Basically all makes of manufacturers nowadays. Unfortunately out to maximise profits at any way possible :C it's a shame really!
This is about the easier way unfortunately. Usually people take the front seats out and the whole middle console to make it easier. Bloody ford worth this design. Good luck, just take your time 👊👊
I had to do this all to change a blown T5 quadrant globe. I can't believe that they've made this so hard. Imagine if you took your Falcon to a dealer to replace this globe and they told you, that'll be $200 to get the light working again. It's no wonder all these BA~BF vehicles have a dark shifter quadrant at night.
Brilliant tutorial mate , a lot of us would be swearing & bleeding .. well done , you’d make a great teacher.

Sweet as mate! Glad the video could be of help. That's right, if going with console removal process: sliding seats forward gives access indeed.
Thanks for all your help, so much easier than pulling half the car to pieces just to put a surround in. :)
Thanks so much! Yeah, I also thought the same! Hahah
Just did my BF, similar but a bit different. would have been lost without your vid, cheers!
Thanks brother! Glad I could help 👊👊
Thanks for the video. It still took me over an hour because I couldn't seem to move the console back far enough, but I got there in the end
No dramas mate! 👊 well of course the centre console can be removed to make the job easier but certainly a little bit tricky in this method but doable
Yay I just got the whole centre console out and the very well stuck on brake sleeve. I’m winning.
Woooo good stuff!
Great helpful video, appreciated the reverse reinstall at the end, for right screws and sequence. 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟.
Many thanks legend!

can u pull the auto trans cable with just doing this??

Where did you buy the new plate
Hey mate 2nd hand from wreckers.
Really appreciate this thank you.

Thanks...get an old 2002 ba, thing is like new, but after 6 months I'm over these bubbles!!

Do you think it'd be possible to remove the surround and replace with a leather boot to give at manual shifter look?
Anything is possible, but this may look a bit fiddly being such a long gear shift position park to drive and sports shift positions.
I need a new surround cause one of the plastic rubber bits is kinda stuck when u try to move it in to the tiptronic.
