Thank you Erod1944, for your help you are the man, it nearly went in the trash, I will set it up in free time but your video tells all my problems.
When I first got my BCD996p2 scanner it just stumped me. It sat in the closet for a month before I got up the courage to tackle it and I had 38 years of programming commercial mobile radio and microwave systems.

i have just tried to update my firmware and now all i have is the backlight is lit but nothing on display so i am locked out of my scanner ...any help please

For some reason, after selecting my State of SC, then press function knob to set, my scanner reverts to Alabama. Why?

i bought this scanner awhile back i cannot figure it out i would like to email you to get instructions if thats possible
Same thing here. I got it to listening to trunking, but later I found out that the police is using encripted digital trunking. Gotta find a new use for this.
Once you use the POL and HP buttons to remove the four indicators from the bottom of the display, does the radio retain that "OFF" configuration through a power cycle?
Yes. I have two 15Xs and the POL and HP buttons retain their configuration during power cycles.

I just got my BCT15X and after i tried to program it the thing just shut down and wont turn on now??It makes a noise like it wants to come on but never does. Can anyone help me???/
Baytop Foster turn it off and press and hold 2-9-hold at the same time then turn on the device

Scanner Reset to initialize the scanner's memory, turn off the scanner. Then press 2, 9, and Hold while turning it on (remember the game called Twister?). The scanner will give you the option 'Restore Preprogram List? "Yes"=E/No="."', if you press 'E/Yes', the scanner reloads the preprogrammed systems.
Important! This deletes all programmed data.
Need help..... Got my new bct15x pre-programmed turned it on an it scans but will not pick anything an does not show signal bars on screen either. What do I do!?
Facing same issue
Just received my Oct15X scanner and in the process of turning it on, I pushed wrong buttons and now cannot get it back to original setup so I can follow your directions to get it on track. How can I get back to the original settings, it keeps showing me Alabama and when trying to change to other state, Pa. where I live, it will not do it. Please can you help me, Am senior old lady and am trying to understand this stuff.
I found the manual reset on marksscanners-dot-com
MANUAL RESET: To initialize the scanner's memory, turn off the scanner. Then press 2, 9, and HOLD while turning it on. The scanner will give you the option "RESTORE PREPROGRAM LIST?? "YES =E NO="."
If you press "E/YES", the scanner reloads the preprogrammed systems.
IMPORTANT! This deletes ALL user programmed data.
You should really look at marksscanners-dot-com as it is much easier to understand than the Uniden Manual.

Hi Erod1944, i tried the video link you sent me but I am still not able to SCAN my airband memories that I have programmed in it with Freescan software, it seems to be scanning its own service banks Regards Terry.
OK. I think the video I've attached to this message talks about your problem and the solution. It's really about the BCD996P2 scanner which is just about identical to your BCT-15X scanner except the 996P2 scanner can work with P25 systems. Try this and let me know how you did....

Is There ANY WAY TO "Un-encrypt" The BCT15X Through A Modification ??????
If you're talking about receiving encrypted signals and decoding them, in theory you could buy/make a decoder however most encryption methods begin the day or the message with a digital code key that has to be mixed digitally and processed with the algorithms in the decoder plus the radio has to have a subscription key code in it as well.
The probability of success is probably well below 001% or some other ridiculously low percentage..
Does anyone also know how to change it to a 800 Mhz radio
