Too much work? DIY hurricane catamaran project 😬

- In this week's video, we take a closer look at what we might be getting into with this hurricane-damaged Antares 44. Is it too much work? I think there is potential in this boat, but it will take a lot of work.

We are so ready for this next chapter!
Woo hoo we are so ready too 😊 💪 so excited to work with you guys on this project!
Thanks! Lots of oh glorious sanding coming up :)
@@AvaSailLife Great project! Hopefully you can get lots of help on this one and get it seaworthy sooner than later!
I like to see companies that I use be involved in projects that I like thank @TotalBoat
Tally Ho just finishes a project, Mat and Ava just start a project, how perfectly timed. Thank you.
Happy to help ;) :D
Also Ran Sailing, but true :D
@@Albert-wk8ts the Ran project is pretty amazing.
@@jonunya3128 Arctic Sea Camel too. He's just at the frame assembly stage.
Oh yeah……heaven on earth.
No doubt you two are capable of repairing this, but this should be a free boat at this point.
It's probably worth about $100k or so in its current state.if they can get the title unsalvaged. If the rig were intact probably half again as much.
I think we have agreed on a fair price with Bryan, but like I said in last week's video it is hard to put a value on a project like this :)
Vancouver BC? OMG! Meetup ❤
Whithout youtube no value at all. In real economics a tota loss.
@@svbarryduckworth628100k? If you would put private money into it 1 Dollar, like Tally Ho.
The tourist stuff and travels were fun....but I came to your channel initially for the repairs and refit. Glad to see it back. Everyone does the travel stuff. You have a niche. And you are really good at it.
Some say niche, some say addiction 😉 glad your looking forward to the refit videos 😊
Agreed, also I think it is good for them both to expand their skillset. Having a catamaran rebuild on the resume just adds value to your wisdom and experience till.
I also watch for the repair and refit. Something very satisfying about watching a project from start to finish.
@@AvaSailLife I was also here from the start of Athena and actually end of Obelix, have to say it will be fun to see you involved in this project!! 😊
Looks like Sail life is gonna provide at least 15 years of glorious refit videos.
This is one of those videos you like first, then watch…. Can’t wait for the rebuild.
Me too! I can't wait to get started! I've arranged with Bryan for me to go ahead and fix the cracks (cabin top and deck) even though the boat is not technically ours yet. The awesome folks at Totalboat have already shipped the materials. It should get here in the middle of next week. With a little bit of luck, I'll be grinding fiberglass in a few days ;)
I can't wait for the oh glorious DIY content.
@@SailLife Yes, even some tarping would help. rolls of duct tape to temp seal the deck holes. cut up a cheap tarp to cover old patches and fans inside.
@@SailLife how awesome the sailing community is!!
I wish Janet and I lived in Florida to help you both, you guys know how much we love a good project, I need something to do in a few months.Ross
Haha, that would have been awesome! :D It took me a while to get bored after we left Denmark. Enjoy it ;)
Maybe I can help him. I am in fl
@@SailLife I joked with my wife that a guy that so thoroughly restored a boat with such good humour (and a kanban board) can't be in it for the sailing. 😎
Ross, that would be awesome having you guys help Mads and Ava, but it's probably not in the cards, BUT, Mads's new project is at least 5 or more years.
She's a keeper! Oh, the boat is okay too, but I was talking about Ava. Any woman who supports your mad projects like that is a gift!
I just have to say that I find your sheer, raw courage at taking on a project of this scale to be utterly admirable. Amazing.
Thank you so much! There is a fine line between courage and stupidity ;)
@@SailLife IDK Mads - it’s like two longer Athenas in one.
I guess if the deck is ok, and there’s not an entire two blister jobs, oh and the structural fixes, maybe you’re starting at interior.
It will be fun to watch. Hopefully you’ll get your TH-cam problem sorted.
I too come for the project courage.
@@SailLife You're very welcome!
To be perfectly honest, given your experience and the work the two of you have already done, I would have to say that "stupidity" isn't part of the equation.
😁
Well, 1. You'd be saving a boat. 2. Viewers love seeing repairs and renovation. 3. When done you'd have great comfortable vessel and home. 😊
Thanks for this :) we think she'll be a pretty dang spiffy home when done as well :)
@@AvaSailLife... And you, Ava, has a saying in how some renovation /interior/helm should be , so you kike it, from the beginning. Good luck with the paperwork😀I hope Athena sells for a good price.
@@AvaSailLife "dang spiffy" for name of the boat.
As a Naval ArchItect & Marine Engineer with almost 50 years in the proffesion (next september 15 will be tha aniversary) I'd suggest a very careful check-up of all structural bulkheads, specially which is fitted under the mast, catamaran are subjects under torsional efforts anf fatigue is very treacherous.... and my second advice, don't worry about the close or open of the cabinets while the boat is docked. The flexion is different when tey are afloat, so, wait until to be floatin, and then, chech-up the opening and closing... the rest, blood, sweat and WORK!!!!
Couldn't agree more. Catamarans are somewhat closer to aircraft (imo). To your point, if they're doing a refit on land, some thought has to be given to "squaring" the boat, just like how aircraft are put into a repair jig for heavy depot maintenance. Would suck to do a cabin rebuild and then everything is out of square when it settles in the water.
@@SCFoster so true. Unfortunately this is Florida so doing work in the water is going to be costly. Getting the boat situated correctly on the hard is the next best thing although that might be difficult. These cats are flexy. I hope Mads doesn't gut and rebuild the interior only to find that it was all for nothing when he splashes it.
@@svbarryduckworth628 That's where lasers may help. I doubt the OEM has reference points built into the hull, they exist in most automobiles, where a measuring system can tell if the frame is misaligned. If so then that could be used on the hard to jack the boat into alignment. If not, then it needs to go in the water to settle, then use lasers to mark reference points for post jacking alignment.
@@SCFoster I don't think you realize how every single boat, even "production boats," are a unique individual with huge variation from the designed dimensions. Every single hull comes out of the hull differently. Also fiberglass has a really large thermal coefficient of expansion. The same boat is going to measure differently at different temperatures. There needs to be quite large tolerances built into everything to account for this.
When we brought our boat from Baltimore to Chicago that first winter the brass half-round strips over the mahogany rub rails literally popped off the boat when the hull shrank at about -10 degrees that firat winter. The brass rail was sticking out in wavy waves from the mahogany rub rails by six inches or more at spots and just ripped the screws that were holding it on right out and popped them into the ice and snow on the ground.
Like you say no one should criticise Bryan because they’ve not spent a day in his shoes, my thoughts are he is the type of bloke who would help others before getting his own jobs done, he may have worked in his own way which others find unorganised, but working with clean freaks is no walk in the park either, I’m glad that you couple have taken it on and I wish Bryan all the best on his new boat as well, I will be watching both channels every week
Glad to see Brian’s boat get reserected.
If it was anyone else i would say no but its Mads, he can do whatever he sets his mind to.
This IS a huge project, but you have proved that you've got the knowledge and skills to take it on. So if you also have the time and the money, then go for it! Catamarans are cool, and I'd love to see one rebuilt.
Awesome! Bring it on :D (pending AdSense and USCG)
I actually watched Bryan’s episodes on this boat and it’s a damn shame what’s happened. Watching him work was an experience, somehow he can totally function among all the clutter and I have to admit it made for some exciting moments!
Such a big project, if there's anyone in the world that can do it, it's you Mads. Good luck, I look forward to seeing all the 'oh glorious sanding' videos.
Thank you for the encouragement 😊
Just think...
At the very lest, twice as much sanding as Athena!
this refit will be two times faster with the both of you, cannot wait for you to get going on this new project.... Ava's face says it all ...glowing 🌟 hope you call the boat AVA
I really like you guys get the paperwork fixed quickly. I hope you get the AdSense situation figured out and fixed. I'll be honest, I'm glad you guys are going to have a massive project to work on, I'm really more of a boat building/repair channel guy rather than a sailing channel guy. I love the way you balance your channel content but I'm not so fond of others after the boats are complete.
Thank you so much :) I like the DIY/building channels better, too :)
@@SailLife diy channel boat building/fixing gave me the confidence to tackle fixing up the boat I have
With a refit of this magnitude I would consider building a dust collection system with a cyclone dust separator and remote start, it could be placed under the bridge deck so all you would have is a hose running to the inside or wherever you need it. Also for the electric power build a distribution center using a breaker panel with multiple outlets that way you could run a semipermanent cable over from the yards panel, running extension cords seems too flimsy. Cheers and good luck!
After being here for over 6 years i think you guys have the age, energy and skills to carry this out . Its massive but i will enjoy the journey with you
Thank you so much! :)
The whole reason I started watching you just as you started Athena - DIY fun. Thanks for taking on a new project. I am already hooked, waiting on some sanding!!!!!
I watched Bryan’s videos from when he first bought the Anteres. I commented many times about how much easier it is to work in a clean work site. Thank you thank you for cleaning up!!
You may want to get aboard a sister cat to see if you like it enough to put 1-2 years of work into. Best of luck!
I'll get to see a couple of Antares 44s at the boat show :) I'm excited about that! Meanwhile, Ava has been aboard one or two before and really likes it - I trust her judgment :)
Looks like a great project! Welcome to Flor'duh. Stay hydrated!
I’m probably one of your first 500 subscribers and watched when you fixed up your first boat. Your dream was to fix up A boat and cruise.
I’m the naysayer- 10 yrs of your precious life goes by so fast and most spent on the hard or fixing boat stuff with very little sailing.
I’d keep Athena and travel and be a cruiser which is what you always wanted to do.
I agree and disagree, goals change with time as do the things that bring us joy.
@@masterv2118 that’s fair. He actually me mentioned a couple of times that he believes his dyi content pushes views. They are way down over recent yrs. TH-cam is a job. and like everyone else, they have to do what will make them money.
Multiple things come into play here. One is that I love cruising, but I don't think I'm old enough for it yet. Not being able to build stuff and be creative gets boring. The perfect scenario for me would be a split between fixing up one boat and sailing another. That is the exact scenario we're trying to get going. Technically, we have to leave the US for 15 days every year to renew our cruising permit. So, a split of working on the boat for 11 months and then cruising for one month might be nice. And you're correct in your reply to masterv2118. TH-cam is a job, and it is easier for us to get views on DIY because we don't do the whole drama/naked stuff. No shame to the channels that do. They're just playing the game - hate the game, not the player.
I agree with you. This project is bonkers. They’re not getting any younger. By the time they finish, they will be burnt out and probably have a couple kids. Maybe ready to settle down.
@@SailLifegood luck and I look forward to the refit. Never actually been a fan of the traditional van life/sailing vids. You definitely have a good niche
Ps. I’d keep it stock so the resale Value stays up there. No white paint or whatever. People want an Amel or oyster or whatever because it’s original.
Amazing!!! Just watched this video yesterday and randomly ran into Ava at the mall today!!! She is so nice:) Nice to have met you Ava. I wonder where and when I will meet Mads:) Love your channel and hope the paperwork goes through so we can all see much more "oh glorious sanding" 🤩
Mads and Ava, I have followed you from Obliex. I was very impressed with your workmanship when I visited you aboard Athena in Plymouth. The video does not show how well you finished Athena. Your patience to achieve the best of everything you have done is your greatest asset. You both look very excited about your new project. In my experience, fixing, repairing and improving a yacht are far more rewarding than actually sailing. I look forward to many more months (years) of oh glorious sanding 👍👍👍
After watching the last rebuild for years ,I was really enjoying watching Ava giving her tours of the new places they were visiting.
Now more years of boat yards with the same old sanding ,fiberglass and endless repairs. I was really hoping to finally sea a sailing channel and all the adventures of seeing new exotic places. I'm convinced Mads is addicted to dyi and not into sailing as much as the rebuild process. See ya.
Good luck with the paperwork, looks like a huge project that I know you too can handle.👍
Thank you so much 🙂
Antares makes a great boat. And I think you're very realistic about how much work this is. I wish you luck.
Cleaning up after Brian is a project just in itself! I think he did a pretty good job with the fiberglass work he did. Get his CNC router!
From what I've seen, Bryan's fiberglass work looks good. It's a shame he didn't get paint/gelcoat on some of the repairs, but I totally understand :)
Life happens. Often it is easier to just walk away when it gets to be too much rather than hold onto broken dreams that are unattainable or just too high of a personal cost to be worth it.
There are so many broken dreams boats out there rotting away on the hard, laying in marinas, and especially anchored out back somewhere dericlict.
Better to sell and get something out of it before it is too late. Boats left for more than a little while just turn into what we are seeing here even with the best of prep.
I've re-subscribed. The sailing stuff on Athena wasn't my cup of tea, but I'm now looking forward to a few years of work on this new one. I actively dislike catamarans for some reason I can't explain, but I can't wait to see you take this thing apart and then put it back together again.
A good analogy is to compare your project to those folks who run half and full marathons, 26.2 miles. People who are not runners can not comprehend how to run that far. Runners recognize the work and effort required and are motivated by the goal. Congratulations on finding a project that excites you and makes you want to get to work every morning.
That’s a great analogy 😊 it will be a lot of work but we are excited about it 😊
Phew, 2-3 years of DIY, love it!
More than that !
Looks like a great project. If I was 30 yrs younger I would love to tackle the rebuild, but I’ll just have to settle for watching you and Eva take it on! Good luck!!
Thank you 😊
I was very very slightly worried when I heard mention of you all looking for a project boat months ago. I know content creation is hard but you were able to make very enjoyable balanced vids with both diy and cruising vlogs.
My brain instantly had a massive reset as soon as I saw the Antares. This is a fantastic project and will be a gem after the completion in a few years and we get to go along for the ride. I know you will both be able to handle whatever needs to done on the boat with teamwork. I hope you don't run into yard or immigration issues as the project moves forward.
I'm so excited to see what happens.
im so glad you got a deal with bryan he worked so hard on that boat and it was sad to see him broken by the project.and personal ife. so much chances to fit modenr upgrades
Doing what Bryan attempted to do (such a massive project while working full time is VERY hard). I think it's the perfect project for us because I'll hopefully be able to focus on the refit full-time. It's still a lot of work but at least there is only one thing to focus on :) Did you see that Bryan has a new catamaran? :) It seems like he found a good boat :)
@@SailLife yes seen bryans new vid very happy for him and looks like a nice boat. re the cupboard doors and windows has there been lots of rain and the boats moved or twisted
I'm super excited to follow this project, I hope the paperwork will be done soon 🙏🏻
Excited to see what miracles you do with this beauty to be.
Me too :D
Galley down works really well we lived galley down for three years and we think it’s fantastic and good for cooking even when it’s rough
Half of me says "Run!" The other half says this project should be good for DIY projects, which I love.
There also is the X Factor of seeing this $hitbox of a boat turned around and made into an absolute gem...
Go do it ! You’re one of the few who can do it
What this boat is!!!!! It’s a huge project.
It's an Antares 44 :) There is a link in the description with more details and photos of what they look like when new. 100% agree that it's a big project but I think it has potential :)
Looks like a worthy project. Finishing my second refit (one sail one power) and everyone at the marina is asking when I'm going to start the third.
I was wondering how long it would take for you to do your third project. Looking forward to watching.
The folks at Total Boat are awesome. Despite all of my technical pestering, they were happy to get into the details of all their products. Andy from BoatWorksToday put me on to them.
If you're looking at paint, have had a lot of success with AlexSeal and Rustoleum 9100.
Good luck with the new rabbit hole :) Well, another 5 years of quality content for me :) win-win :)
Haha :D Thanks!
Do you think with stuck doors, cracked windows, spongy floors, and deck head core, could there be a big twist to contend with?
At least you are prepared for a big job to rebuild. Have fun..!!
I felt Mat like a tiger in a cage, going around in circles with his Athena DIY . Now, I feel the beast roar, and the sanding superman begins to impatiently show his muscles. I have no doubt that with Jane-Ava, this catastrophic jungle will become the most beautiful and technological Catamaran haha
Haha 😂 That is a very creative comment - I love it 🙂
There are two of you working now. You have an enthusiasm for the project. You know what the end looks like. Go for it.
Can’t wait for this project. Fun and o’glorious sanding!
Get your dust mask ready for all this sanding!
Mee too :D
Gotta love our Florida sun and what it does to plastic and glass.
The movement after being still for so long... Crack!
I've ALWAYS found a good cleaning PRIOR to starting allows for building a proper plan.
That makes a lot of sense! I already have a loose plan in mind: 1) stop all leaks into the boat 2) airconditioning to cool down and dry out the interior 3) fix the issue with water in the port keel 4) after that there are a couple of different routs I can take :)
I would seriously look into having a decent temporary electrical service run over to the boat rather than trying to do such a major project on one 20A circuit with likely significant voltage drop on a single temporary drop cord.
A 40A 120/240v temporary turtle panel would be ideal so you could run power tools, AC, decent shop lighting, etc. If it coule be bonded to a ground rod right there near the boat that would be best for safety.
I like how are both agreed on the project and clear that is what you want to do. It looks like a great boat, beware, catamaran prices are high at the moment so make sure it is what you want regardless of the anticipated restored value. It seems getting the structural repairs completed to a high standard and certified is the big hurdle on this one. Perhaps there are weight improvements where you can use foam cored fibreglass instead of all that plywood. I wonder if Mads will set up a CNC workshop under the boat.
It's a big project, but a fun one for the two of you. Stay safe, and have a fantastic week ahead
Thank you so much! We are really looking forward to it! You have a good week too 😊
One simple reason for the cracked glass is that's its too tight in the frame as its facing the sun and when glass gets warm it expands and if its tight in the frame it cracks
Looks a fantastic project enjoy
A few comments. I was involved in replacing standing rigging of a Leopard and the best/cheapest source of wire/fittings was the boat builder. They had the exact specs for the boat and price was considerably less than local especially dealing with compact strand wire that many cats use. Same idea goes for the mast. Is it possible your bent mast can be sleeved and reused?
Tape/tarp over the leaking holes, hatches. windows and maybe drape tarp over vulnerable fiberglass repairs to eliminate further damage.
May want to evaluate how much time/level of perfection you spend on this cat project and whether you occasionally hire help. There are a few cat repair/cat kit YT projects and it seems subscribers/views drop off after 1.5 years- people can only watch so many fairing/sanding episodes before losing interest. Make sure you include having a solid hardtop/bimini in your plans either DIY or prof built if the original can't be repaired.
Can’t wait for more refit videos again!
I’d highly recommend getting rid of the curved glass altogether. It will always crack. It will always leak. It will always frustrate you. You’re smart, Mads. You can figure out a way to get rid of those.
We actually already got a suggestion to do that from one of the guys who used to be a part of PDQ (the builder of the boat). It's something we'll definitely consider! :)
I used to follow Brian's chanel wish him all the best But you two will do sutch a good job and the boat needs to be back in the water .
And everybody loves a build video when it's finished what a 🚢 🎉
rain soup is my FAV!
Especially with the marinated forks :D
Magnifique!
I watched all of Bryan's skillful videos. Would you consider now removing all of the cabinetry leaving the boat a shell and then using the CNC files to remake everything? Or is only a partial rebuild of the cabinetry necessary?
Sail Life is about to become the new penultimate channel for boat repair tragics! Love it.
Having the workshop area under the boat is almost as good as when you were back in the shed with Athene. You can put up a temporary wall at each end and even lock stuff up there.
Given the shear space a refit is going to be a lot easier than Athena. The square footage is of lesser concern in my experience.
I think there is a lot of truth to that :)
- So. You both went looking for challenges? mischief? trouble? adventure and Lucky you! You found it. Well done. Congratulations! (whispers in the wind "Be careful what you wish for") - It IS a sweet looking boat with some seriously sharp lines, that's f'sure & if anyone can get this renovators paradise to float and then fly then it's our Dauntless Dynamic Duo.- Please clarify one thing. When the time comes, will you be retaining the Cat's current identity or will there be a re-naming? if so then maybe -Lazarus- would be a fitting option? Should this project go ahead, it's completion will be up there in significance of your recent Atlantic crossing. Bon Voyage!
U GUYS ROCK....
Thank you so much! :)
I remember when Bryan started to get to the point where he stopped working on the boat. I thought then I would love to see you both in the US making this boat glorious again. I think we are all ready to see the amazing work you both do and hearing the AMAZING work through on the how’s and why’s!!! Keep up the amazing work and hope the paperwork gets sorted out!!
The best of luck Mads & Ava with the paperwork and the Adsence problems.
Thank you so much! :)
Oh glorious sanding .best times ,great material.
Should we start taking bets at how long this is going to take? I will start at 3 years
I wasn't going to say anything because it'll most likely be wrong but in my head I'm thinking 3-5 years :)
I subscribed to Bryan's channel as well, when he bought this boat. He's a very capable guy with many skills but there were signs that all was not well before his channel stopped. Now he's back, and in his latest video he's moved into a new boat and seems much happier with a return of his original enthusiasm (though tidiness was never his forte). I'm very happy that you've taken over the project, there's a ton of work but I know you're not afraid of that and watching you restore it to its former glory will be fascinating.
We're excited about this opportunity, and I'm very happy that Bryan has found a new boat :) I think this is a classic case of win-win :)
Great buy, certainly buy it !
Haha :D Awesome!
I'm really excited about this new project, but i'm keeping my fingers crossed you'll still be using the metric system 😅
No matter what you say or even think right now. Emotion IS a part of your decision. but what the heck...go for it. We are in it with you. This project is going to really increase your subs as well. Tens of thousands of new viewers inbound.
As a PDQ owner, I’m glad this boat has found you! I look for to the transformation!
Thank you :) Us too! Ava has been aboard a couple of Antares 44s in the past, but I have yet to see one that's not ripped apart. I'm very excited to see one at the boat show in Annapolis this year :)
dam your crasy that thing is at least 4 times the work of your beloved mono hull
Yay for crazy people :D The world would be boring without us ;)
@@SailLife keep going hope all goes well
I feel better about it after you straightened up a bit. When you get more organized with this project, I'd be curious to know what you'd do differently than on Athena, and what knowledge you'll bring along to this one. I'm also curious if you'd be able to put the boat in the water and live on it before you're completely done with all the interior work. It seems there's enough space for that.
How much did Brian pay you to take the boat ?
New to your channel coming over from Brian's, i hope to see this boat get sailing and am looking forward to watching
i love your channel and have watched all your oh glorious videos but when you said a years and years project it got me thinking you're a sailing channel and i do realize boat work is a big part of boating but have you ever calculated how much time you've actually spent on the water sailing compared to being on the hard doing boat work *edit don't worry i will continue watching
Haha :D To be honest, I would get bored if we kept sailing. I think a mix of building and sailing will be perfect (11 months of work and then one month of sailing)
@@SailLife to be honest yours is a the only channel i would watch with that much water to yard discrepancy
Good luck with the project, I will be watching. Maybe I will run in to Ava in Vancouver, my wife and I are in the area living on our boat.
Did you resolve the TH-cam issues?
Not yet, but we have a man on the inside now - actually, like 9 different guys. Turns out there are a lot of Google employees who watch these videos 😂 The support from them has been overwhelming! I'm so grateful for their kindness even though the issue is not solved yet.
i LOVE the new proyect
You are totally mad, bro. A total nightmare....
One man's nightmare is another man's dream, I guess 😂
Super stoked to see a new rebuild! Absolutely loved watching you build Athena over the years.
We are so happy you are excited about the rebuild! Thanks for the support :)
Just getting things cleaned and organized is a big first step on any project I admire the eagerness that you both show at this point. Lots of luck
Thank you so much 😊
it s a huge project, and I hope for you that it fits. GOOD LUCK.
I saw Bryan's videos on this. It was a shame that he couldn't carry on. Life bites us all sometimes. On the bright side its going to be fun seeing Mads deal with the rest of the job. Are you able to keep Athena while you're fixing the Antares? A mix of boat work and sailing is a winning combo.
You're a brave man doing this work in what looks to be a brand new white shirt.
Of the channels I've seen on TH-cam, you are the only one who I believe could be successful on a project like this. Hopefully all of the obstacles can be resolved and the project started. 🙂 Plus you can intersperse sailing and travel videos along with the build videos. Yay!
That is a big compliment! Thank you so much :)
The vessel appears to have sat for some time with a lot of poorly stowed weight in it that may have distorted the whole vessel. Cracked Windows may be a hint of this problem. Hurricane season is here and that may provide options for a more reasonable project. I know you are very good with any sort of repairs and can fix it but!!! Good luck with all your projects.
Any chance you guys could get her inside for the repairs? Could you erect a rain-proof structure over it where it is at? Or, is there a place nearby that could accommodate you and a structure for the reconstruction? God bless you guys for your industrious enthusiasm. Your talent and attention to detail make the finished product unquestionably top notch. Cannot wait to see the progress underway.
I would like to express my congratulaition to new project, hope you have good time full of joy fun and glorious sanding !
Thank you so much for your support :)
This is perfect. I came across Brian’s channel a few months ago when he first announced it was for sale. For a VERY brief moment started to consider if I could take this project on as a long term project (certainly inspired by Mads). Anyhow after a little research I realized it would be impossible to transport this project boat close to me in Michigan for it to make sense and I thought it could be a perfect boat for Mads. Now I get to watch Mads bring the same boat back to life.
Haha! Wow, that's amazing :) Although we thought about potentially moving her to Michigan to be closer to my family BUT doesn't look possible right now ;)
@@AvaSailLife I will definitely be watching. I sail a Catalina 30 on Lake Michigan and you guys are on my short list of 'must watch" channels. I really appreciate your perfectionism and I've definitely taken ideas from both the Obelix and Athena builds.
I will definitely be watching your build if you buy the boat or maybe just watching you anyway love the attitude you two have I watched Brian working on this boat I saw that he got himself a new boat which is cool all right guys be looking forward to ya'll working on this
Seems solid and will be a very worthwhile project.
Good luck with the purchase and project 😊
excited for the rebuild and the cost explanation
Good luck! I will be watching.
Woo hoo! Thank you :)
OMG !!
Bryan’s Boat !!
Cant wait to see what you do with the boat. 🤔 for board and food i would come and help you
Look forward to seeing you guys transform this boat. My hats off to you. After watching you refit Athena I don’t think I’d have it in me to tackle another refit. Good luck 👍 you might have to coin a new phrase. I don’t think “ Oh glorious sanding.” Is going to to encompass this refit adequately. lol congratulations.
Just needs a little oh glorious sanding!
I have learnt so much watching you working on your boats. For me watching you work on another is absolutely perfect.
SO happy the videos have been helpful :) This is why Mads does this 😊Thank you for watching!
