    What would your 2-2-2-2 Travel credit card setup look like if you were traveling abroad for 3+ months?

      I'm abroad >>3 months: My cards: Aspire and IHG1 Premier Rewards (I already have) and cards to be considered (not finally decided upon): Flexible currencies - Citi Premier, Wells Fargo (Autograph plus Journey due to the global multipliers), Amex Green / Hotels - Brilliant, World of Hyatt / Airlines - Aeroplan, flying blue, BA cards and eventually an AA card.

    Abroad i use the following: Altitude Reserve (everything), Citi Prestige (restaurants, airlines, travel agencies), Savor One (groceries, Uber), Wyndham Business (gas), Ink Preferred (other travel) Also, if you have Curve, you can utilize any mastercard with no FTF, however it doesn't work good outside of North America.

    I haven't done any extended international travel, but I like the idea of extended trips later in life. I'm getting some great ideas on travel setups from you and a couple of retired expats (Grounded Life Finance YT channel). It's interesting to see where your strategies overlap and differ. I.e., they have the same premium cards but find little use for airline cards (local flights issue) or the Aspire, opting instead of IHG and Hyatt for long-term stays in hotels (they recently moved away from Airbnb in favor of this approach). They also recommend against C1 cards due to C1's mailing address restrictions (can't use a virtual address). I suspect your recommendations also differ due to them spending more time in southeast Asia while you gravitate towards Africa.

    • @RSquared-travel-rewards
      @RSquared-travel-rewards  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Unfortunately, extended travel is always early or late in life. I believe that I've seen one of their video because the name is familiar. For me, keeping airline and hotel cards beyond the SUB is about achieving status with a particular airline or hotel. I do seek out comfort when travelling because it can be grueling otherwise. I wouldn't dream of receiving mail when I travel. I rarely receive any important mail when in the U.S. as I always seek out email communication. BTW, my long-term stays are never in hotels or airbnbs. I prefer to rent unique accommodations. Hotel and AirBnb stays are never beyond 10 days each.

    • @danielturner8798
      @danielturner8798 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@RSquared-travel-rewards - Makes sense! I'm not seeking airline status, but I do collect hotel cards for the free nights and status. They were talking about dealing with an emergency situation like a lost or stolen card, IIRC. As long as I had some sort of home base in the US, it wouldn't be consideration for me. How do you usually pay for your unique accommodations? Does Bilt work well for that?

      @@RSquared-travel-rewards - We just did a week-long trip to Jamaica and for that trip I brought a Southwest card (airline we flew with Companion Pass), World of Hyatt (stayed at Hyatt Zilara), Venture X (catch-all/premium), Citi Premier (category spend), and Curve (used to get 7x on dining with Freedom Flex with no FTF, also good for 5x hotel this quarter).

    SavorOne would give you 3x on entertainment which often includes zoos, aquariums, movies, theaters, and many tourist attractions. Also dining and groceries worldwide no fx fee. If traveling with hotel cards and a general travel card like CSR I see nothing the premier gives you besides gas if you’re renting cars a lot. Savor is a killer travel companion.

    • @RSquared-travel-rewards
      @RSquared-travel-rewards  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I have an affinity for the Premier. The SavorOne is a good card but as stated, when I want to head out with one card, I'm covered with the Premier. Also, I usually rent vehicles to get around. However, I wouldn't fault anyone for rocking the SavorOne if it fits nicely within their setup. Just sharing my setup for my upcoming travel.

    Have a trip to Paris & Amsterdam in a week. Planning on taking the following cards: Hilton Surpass (hotel expenses although it was booked on points and FNC) Amex Platinum (shopping where it’s accepted/spend towards 175K SUB) Amex Gold (Dining where accepted) Citi Premier (Dining where Amex Gold is not taken) Venture X (Catch All/Lounge Acess as I’m not an AU on wife’s Platinum and we have Air France lounge access with Business class seats)
    Thoughts?

      It's not an issue, I've done it several times already. Africa is 6 and 7 hrs ahead of the US so it works seamlessly, and I never have to think about it. I normally use my card starting use my card starting around 10/11am which makes it 3am or 4am in the US. Then when I have dinner between 7-10pm it is noon-3pm in the U.S.

      @@yurig2530 I prefer SkyTeam especially since Kenya Airways is the only direct flight from NY and DC to Kenya given that's your preferred destination.
      Additionally Delta, Air France, KLM and Virgin are great SkyTeam partners. You just can't go wrong with Air France or Delta when not flying direct. A layover in Europe breaks up my flight better than flying to let's say Ethiopia then a layover then on to Kenya. These are just data points of personal preference when l travel to kenya.

      @@CraccHeadJack I still recommend SkyTeam. Delta is a hub in Boston so lots of flights. You'd likely end up with a layover in Paris of Amsterdam. Or do what I do sometimes, take a short flight from Boston to JFK and then direct to Kenya on Kenya Airways. You may still book through Air France to fly Delta or Kenya Airways.

    SavorOne pretty much has the same bonus categories as Citi Premier, but without the annual fee, so why is Citi Premier better?

    • @RSquared-travel-rewards
      @RSquared-travel-rewards  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Definitely not the same. The Premier offers 3X on Gas & flights not offered by the SavorOne. The hotel category matters a great deal in that I often dine at hotel restaurants I'm not staying at which wouldn't be possible with the savor one.

      It is but I'd rather not take additional cards with me so I can live with 1.5X given that most of my flights will be on Air France while in Africa and it will get me closer to Platinum status on Flying Blue but I'm not totally counting on that.
