Love the point you’re getting at here: your cpp is 0 (or arguably negative) until you make a redemption. Cash out early and often.
The only thing I don’t like is that they don’t include a breakfast buffet. They charged us $ 60 for breakfast for me and my mother, then always gave the room at the end of the hallway next to the housekeeping break room. Most of the hotels I want to redeem are over 35000 points.
The best use of points is what works for you. Worrying about CPP is okay to a point, but ultimately the goal is to chain hotel, flight and food for as little out of pocket cash as possible.
I agree. your points should have a purpose. Use you free nights for a Stay-cation. Being from Chicago, there's plenty of places to hit for a day trip or a weekend
Good advice
This is good content Jake. Keep it up.
You're spot on
Great video
For me the points value at 1cpp (so in this 29,000 points = $290) has to be what I would have paid anyway and in this case it is and it allowed me to book at Hyatt where the per night room rate is $1,056. Would I have paid the cash rate on vacation for this room, yes it it was $290 would I have paid $1,056 absolutely not 😂 so that redemption makes sense for my use case.
ANAs the room is basically impossible I looked for some time too and gave up, that’s why I never mention it 😂 and CPP can definitely be overhyped. I use it to know if it’s at least good value, but for biz class flights it’s worthless to me cause no shot I’d pay cash for that flight. I’m just happy to have a lie flat seat and decent food
The only good value is if you get an international option. The best card is a basic Wells Fargo Autograph no annual fee card and get cash back. Don’t buy the hype.
The five free nights worked great for me, but your mileage may vary
I downgrade cards to match dollar-for-dollar devaluation of a card or program.
Lol, reminds me of the Bilt helicopter perk. Like yeah, it's cool, but how on earth do I use that
I know how I would use the sign up bonus 🎉 Jake
How would you use the sign up bonus. Are you team travel? Cash back?
Interesting perspective: loosing value when you delay redemption-- good call. 200K MR today, may only be worth 150K or less a year or more in the future when the transfer points loose value as they raise prices on tickets. Or Amex can get their panties in a wad and snatch back some MR points for whatever reason.
Yeah we have a stash of points that we use for domestic flights now bc we have a baby. I'm thinking of even going to a cash back set up bc of my growing family.
Yep same boat. I have a wife and now a one year old son so international trips just isn't on the radar anytime in the near future. Also, our anniversary trip fell through so now I'm just sitting on a stash of points to have to burn through via economy domestic trips.
@geraldalves9107 domestic isn't too bad though. We managed to go to Chicago and Dallas last year. As long as you burn some points you'll be good!
@@tooeasy4217 Agreed! We're planning on going to DC in June and upstate New York during Labor Day weekend. There's also a chance to go to the Caribbean with other family sometime early next year. I think I'll have no issues earning and burning. I just hope we survive those trips having some fun while keeping the little one at bay lol.
@@geraldalves9107 I think it gets easier as they get older. But I do love the fact that my little one just sleeps on the flight.
You do realize you can just take a leave of absence at any job right?
I fell into this trap too but I realized that my employer has no problem with me taking extra time off but they’re not goi g to pay for it.
I easily get an extra two weeks every year with this strategy.
Agreed on the cents per point. It can get so easy to wrap yourself too much into it that you never pull the trigger on any redemptions and you have a stash of points just sitting there waiting for the right time and then the right time never comes. As long as you're not getting LESS than 1 cpp on say a domestic trip and you're only paying $11 and change combined total for a round trip ticket and the hotel stay, you're winning. While a good CPP is obviously preferable, it's not the end all be all like most content creators make it out to be.
Andy Samberg, one of the few cc TH-camrs who keep is 100% real. I’ve stopped watching cc TH-camrs because videos lately have just been ridiculous with how much they say they spend on all of their cards lol.
Nice to hear honest feedback for once, no fluff
I love honest feedback. Glad you appreciate it too

Your video should be required learning for those who watch credit game videos.
Very good post.
Credit card Hype. .... like watching a content creator who has posted videos about having the Amex platinum and business blue for its x2 catch all power and then they make a video about why I should get a C1VX because it has x2. Just like the previous months recommendation for the Amex cards.
I'm doing the buisness Marriot. With the 5 nights. I'm now 5/24 so I took the card for some spend. But I know I can't use them this year. So I'm going to take my time earning if I can. My wife is retiring after the next year's school year. So I hope to Finish my sub late summer. So I can have the following summer to use them. Not very convenient . I kind of regret getting it. Also looking at redemption 50k may not be enough a night. So I'm already planning on adding points as I earn the sub.
What do you value the 50k at with real world redemption value?
Great post.
Instead of the 5 nights, both my wife and I got 3 nights, for a total of 6. We have a 3 week trip to Patagonia in June and were only lacking 3 hotel nights. The other three we will use in Thailand in July.
I had no problem getting great value out of the 5 nights in Italy.. annoying how they expire though
I agree with you 1000% on turn and burn. I disagree with you with regards to points being currency. They are def a currency and CPP is just how most assign a valuation. They are a currency that are controlled largely by the respective company (Hyatt, United, KLM) and will very likely depreciate over time or as the company dictates for accounting reasons (which is why you gotta turn and burn). Btw been to Valencia…cool place but honestly wish I just spent more time in Barca. You ain’t missing much and I’m sure you’ll get to it soon enough. Great job Jake!
Where’s the video called “The Problem with Joe Biden!”
Amen. LOL
Lame. Don’t bring that vibe here.
