    Here's the problem, it's dropped on an uneven textured concrete ground and I love that. Because most drop test youtubers drop phones on smooth concrete, but being realistic, most streets and sidewalks have this type of concrete. So gotta put a case to protect those lenses guys

      I use several kinds.
      1.
      Supcase UB PRO
      2.
      Poetic Revolution or Spartan cases.
      3.
      My fave screen protector is 'smartshield' available in Canada from MobileKlinik.
      4,
      Once I have my smartshoeld, I use a dBrand GRIP case at all times, usually paired with a finger ring.
      5,
      Right now I'm using the Samsung 'belt' case.

      I'm so glad I got a case for my S22U that includes a shutter for the cameras now that I've seen this video. It seems to me like the discrete camera glasses can be damaged much more easily than a camera bump. My Note 9 has taken way more damage than this and the camera bump is still completely intact.

      I have had s7 s9 and s20 and had found the the gorilla glass is not as tough as the iphone glass. I also have the iphone 12 pro max and have dropped it many time were it hit the front and back glass naked with no case and hardly a scratch. I still like samsung for performance and style and ergonomics but I have to give durability to the apple line of phone. Even tough samsung produces both devices displays.

    • @themepark_united
      @themepark_united 2 ปีที่แล้ว +80

      @David D. The glass used is the same as Apple, so that makes no sense. Apple also had issues with bending phones, never had that with a Samsung.

      All of my old iPhones have never had screen protectors & they don't have a scratch on them. My 1st Android is my Note 10+ I love this phone but day 1 it got scratched up somehow!
      I don't put my phone's in my pockets, I do have cases installed but I'm really amazed at how resistant Apple displays are to Samsung's. Especially with micro scratches.. Thinking of cancelling my S22 Ultra order & waiting on the iPhone 14 Pro Max..

    A *major* deciding factor for me buying phones for myself and everyone else in my family is how much does replacement glass cost, and how easy is it to replace. I learnt to ignore manufacture claims about drop resistance a long time ago! We all drop our phones. It happens. Eventually, they'll shatter.
    Same goes for charging ports for my kids! They somehow seems to *eat* charging ports! So before i buy a new phone for them i google the price of screens/digitisers and charging ports, and how easy they are to replace!
    Having said all of that, I'm surprised at how bad the S22 Ultra preformed! I've dropped my Note 10 a bunch of times and my frame is beat up! But the glass doesn't have a mark on it.

    I remember that my Galaxy S5 dropped multiple times, even on a concrete floor and the screen never cracked or scratched, the frame was not damaged either, although it did fade over time. I never used screen protector or case with that model. I used it for four years and changed it because it already felt too slow (and the frame was already totally stripped). Now looking at this model I feel like it's a total throwback when it comes to durability. After watching this video I think I will continue to stick with my S10e which is super fast, has a great camera and most importantly is the perfect size (I hate giant phones). And although I've dropped it about three times so far nothing has happened to it, I think it will be just as durable as my S5.

      Its because S5 didnt have curved screen that expand edge to edge
      You only can chose one, durable, or pleasing to look

    This takes me back to when my similarly sized Sony Z3 looked when I accidently hit the screen off the corner of a table several years ago. I have the S22 plus ordered with a case, and will be looking at screen protectors too if it's this fragile.

      A Spigen case or similar rugged-style case are often raised over the screen to protect it without needing a screen protector. And there are many of these cases that are actually really light, grippy, and comfortable to use. So you don’t _really_ need a screen protector.
      If you do go with a screen protector, though, make sure you pick a tempered glass one that isn’t curved over the display so that it fits with your case.

    I very rarely, if ever, drop my phone. If I do, the case usually protects it. I don't think any phone is designed to be dropped. That's why you should treat it like the expensive item it is and try and make sure you don't put it in the position that it could be dropped. Just my opinion.

    Thanks for sacrificing your galaxy for the drop test , yes disappointment it shattered so easily mate , and the rear cameras lack of design and any sort of protection is pretty lack lustre imo .
    As for the horrible curved edges , I truly don’t know why Samsung has hung onto them for so long , they have been done to death, and still have as many cons today as when they where first implemented .

    The cameras protruding seem to be the reason why they cracked so early.

    On the other hand the iPhone 13 pro max was surviving multi-storey skydives with barely any damage. I have become so disappointed in Samsung as of late I wish they'd just stop making high end smartphones and stick to making microwaves and dishwashers.

    • @PBKreviews
      @PBKreviews  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      😄. But keep in mind the iphone was a flat display and not curved. The process of making curved glass also makes it softer from what I've been told.

      I always buy otterbox defenders for this reason. It does make buying screen protectors a bit troublesome because not all are made with otterbox in mind.

    Man just one drop and the camera lens goes that is not durable at all ! That's scary when you payed 1400 for a device. They really need to start investing more resources into a better durability solution unless of course they want these to break so you have to pay to keep getting these fixed $$

      Ya, i think if the cameras had a flat single glass bezel, it would possibly have handled it better.

    You are slowly becoming the NHTSA of smartphones. Its great to see videos that shows practical ramifications of dropped phones as oppose to theoretical-take-the-word-of-manufacturers on how shatter resistant the phones are. Until they start releasing their own videos of these test. I'll take your video as the real thing instead.

    Common phone droppage scenarios
    1. Sitting down, you briefly forget your phone on your lap. You get up, and boom!
    2. In your car. You forget your phone is on your lap. You exit your vehicle and boom!
    3. You're walking on street pavement. You failed to grasp your phone properly while quickly pulling it from your pocket, and Boom!
    4. Someone bumps into you while on your phone. It knocks out from your hand. Boom!
    If you could simulate these conditions along with the droppage, I think would be more informative. Just a suggestion. Thanks for the review tho.

    • @PBKreviews
      @PBKreviews  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you, and you're welcome. Yeah those are more realistic but people mainly just want to see these harsh straight drops to gauge how well they may do in real life scenarios based off the results. In reality these tests would need to be done in many ways and times to get an average and concrete idea.

    Glass is glass and that means it is very resistant to scratches but will easily shatter when it hits something hard that won't absorb the shock like concrete(that's why the X-Cover series has a plastic screen or Nintendo uses plastic instead of glass for their switch). I am not surprised the lenses cracked easily. I already ordered a case that will make the back even and protect the lenses that way. It is a bit crazy of Samsung to design it that way, I'd rather have had the design of the S21 Ultras Lenses instead but there are cases that will get rid of this flaw(and also hinder the free space between the lenses from catching dust like magnets).

    When Samsung uses this Gorilla Glass are you suggesting they don't expect you to use some kind of a protective case anyway? Just because it's tough glass does it mean it's realistic to be dropping around concrete without a case.

    Let's be honest Samsung other than esthetic reasons, the shitty curved edges of the display don't have a valid purpose, rather making the handset much more vulnerable 🤦‍♂️

    After 5 days of having my s22 ultra it fell on the floor and a small part if the screen broke. The top camera got scratched just by placing it down whilst always being careful. It also has damage on the side from when it fell on the floor.
    I've had almost all of the Samsung galaxy phones and never broke the screen very disappointed by the new phone

  • @nikkosr888

    I don’t know if this was caused by the curved screen but imo the curved screen is more fragile compared to the normal flat screen. This is due to the force distribution on the screen. The flat one would have less force distribution.

    I wonder if getting a case with a bump protection improve crack resistance. From your video the crack stressed lines seem to start mainly from the curved sides. I hate glass protectors for curved displays, even the best ones have issues with fingerprint access.

    Nothing out there that can beat the s8 active for durability. I've dropped it on concrete from a semi cab height 15 plus times. 5 years and going strong!

      Agreed, my almost 5 year old s8 plus fell on the concrete so many times at work and with the otter box defender it just bounces, screen broke cause a steel gauge tipped over on it.
