The plastic pipe that needed to be replaced is called a coolant crossover or a heater pipe line, depending on what site your on or who you talk to. Carparts.com for example uses the latter term.
Thanks for the video. My drain plug is a plastic wing screw, I was able to take it all the way out which was a big mistake. Getti g it back in was hard.
U just helped A LOT we have the same Zetec engine tho mine is Ford Mondeo but it worked cuz it's almost all the same...I didn't know how to flush so I searched it up and good thing I did since I'm broke I learned a lot of how to take care of my car by myself 😂😂
Nice Focus…. I have the same engine and same year of Focus. Mine is a black zx3 but under the hood, same car. Looks good, man. Thanx for the instructional vid ~ kudos.
I had the same crack in the plastic tube and just flushed my system. FYI - after loosening the drain plug go loosen one of the hoses connected to the plastic tube. A lot more coolant will drain.
for bleeding you can jack up the passenger front side so it's cocked at an angle thus making the reservoir the highest point so that air bubbles will float up out of it.
FYI: The proper procedure for adding coolant with this engine is to turn the heater on high, remove the upper heater core hose from the engine, and add coolant to the heater core with a funnel stuck in the heater core hose. Keep adding coolant until it comes out of the fitting on the engine, then reinstall the line. The rest of it is as described here.
Nice vid :) Regarding bubbles in system, there is usually bleeding point on every car. On most of the cars it is on large tube that comes from TOP (not bottom) of the radiator into the engine (trough thermostat). Bleeding point is usually on top of that tube and you just need to open it while engine is running. Let it bleed for a while (put a bucket below it) and add coolant to maintain proper level. Also, put water before flushing fluid, otherwise you can damage plastic tubes.
great! i have a '04 focus with the zetec engine, virtually the same. this is way easier than what the haynes service book recommends, since you don't have to remove the thermostat (a big pain in the butt, due to its location behind some immovable pipes) OR flush the thing out with a garden hose, also a pain since you have to remove the top radiator hose and let the clean water drain from it. so, i'm doing it your way, thanks
U have to get down your car of those ramps to get all the coolant out, actually u can to raise the rear axle with a hydraulic jack or ramps and so will drain all the coolant. ;)
does any one know might be a silly question but the two hoses on the top of the water bottle thing does it matter what one they connect to on the bottle had to replace it and can't remember what way they went..
Correct. The "radiator cap" on these vehicles IS the overflow tank itself. The overflow tank cap functions as a radiator cap and blow-off valve for the radiator. Unlike most vehicles, the overflow tank is pressurized to a set amount (15 PSI if I remember correctly... not 100% sure) in this system.
First off, you should have flushed it. Secondly, draining the radiator just drains the radiator....you still have the cooling jackets and heater core to flush out which is how the dealer does it. Then you have to do what is called I call, berping the system. That get all the air pockets out which you create when you drain and fill the reseviour and radiator. One which causes the over heating process....unless properly berpped. Oops
great video, and explanation, gives a lot of confidence to us FOCUS owners !!
Thanks so much. I watched it then did it. 45 minutes after watching this, my Focus had fresh coolant. :-)
I just needed to know where to put my antifreeze and your video helped me do just that. Thank you!

Excellent - very informative, should be fine to do this myself now.

thanks dude. i'm a girl and i am thankin my lucky stars for your vid =)
ITs been 11 years :p
I thought it was going to come out of the bracket mount thing too but my screw came all the way out and the coolant pissed out all over my face!
U have to get down your car of those ramps to get all the coolant out, actually u can to raise the rear axle with a hydraulic jack or ramps and so will drain all the coolant. ;)
Great informational video. Thank you. Cheers, Lucius
Big help. Thank you

Good video exactly what happened to my car the plastic pipe thing cracked
Mine won't come out at all
Great video! Thank you. You totally rock!!!
thankx for the vid..ill try it on my svt since it you made it look simple lol
dude thanks for everything!
there is no bleeding on newer cars on my understanding .. Check the owners manual on your focus
my 97 pontiac needed it ha !!
or yank off the lower rad hose and push it down to allow the coolant to flow down.
thanks very nice video
very useful
very qalm trusty voice
thank you so much it was really helpful:)
Hey thanks alot, that really helped.
YOU GOT A JUMPY HOUSE?!?
can u used house water?
what happen if u do?
Tap water has a lot of minerals in it and you don't want mineral deposits in you radiator.
thanks very nice video
very useful
GOD BLESS YOU
Is it bad to run 100% coolant? It doesn't go below freezing here ever, and I put my car in the garage anyways..?
do you need the flush? or can you just use the water
Very good. Video

Thanks a lot!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You have to turn the heater on as well so it'll flush the heater core!
Justin Watson if you were paying attention, he does say that at 4:50.
PRESS 2 FOR SPANISH!
HEY NEXT TIME TAKE OFF YOUR RADIATOR CAP.YOU TOOK OFF RESIVIOR CAP.DO BOTH.
This car does not have a radiator cap. The reservoir serves as the cap, and thus the reservoir cap is the radiator cap.
Man if I were you I would just throw that goofy cell phone in the bucket!!!
Good video but the 50/50 is really a waste and useless... the Flush is ok and so is the water but 50/50.. I would never go that route.
I'm gonna go ahead and...... Ummmm Kay. Office Space
lol @ 3:58
press 8
222222222...I pressed 2 for Spanish to get a different experience.
No audio. Wtf
