I have had an Oklahoma Joe's Highland for 4 years now and to my surprise the fire box shows very little wear, it is a well built and does an amazing job, the temperature control is simple and doesn't fluctuate by much, all in all if and when I have to replace it, I will be buying another. I also have the Oklahoma Joe's tailgate grill it is also great it has cast-iron grates and its adjustability is very user friendly. You can't go wrong with Oklahoma Joe's products.
I am thinking about purchasing this same kind of smoker. What other issues have you discovered with it that you would improve upon? What is the gasket material around the door openings? What kind of silicone did you use on the side Fire box to seal to main cooking area? Where did the lava clamps come from?
I'm pretty happy with it, it does a reall nice job. The gasket I used is Oklahoma Joe's smoker gasket kit 3388454P06 purchased on Amazon. The Lavalocks were also purchased on Amazon. Any high heat resistant silicone will suffice. I either used Lavalock or Rutland brand.
Also what’s the gasket stuff you got around the edge of lid ? Man you are all set if you could please let me know the clamps and basket as well that would be great
No. I use a charcoal chimney starter and newspaper to start the charcoal then add to burn chamber with a few pieces of wood. After that I only use smoking wood to cook meat.
My Char Griller 3 in 1 leaks smoke like a sieve and I made a banger 12 lbs brisket last weekend that all my neighbors were ranting about. Weekend before I made slamming beef reeeeeebs and a whole red snapper. I bought the floor model from Lowe’s for $75. The paint bubbled off the first fire I built in it. My wife hates the thing bc it’s huge and ugly as sin. It’s on year 4 now so I’ll be happy with one more year. I’m currently shopping around for a very nice smoker, 1/4 inch steel and all that, but your Joe is nice and a lot cheaper. Nice mods by the way. My only curiosity is how well does the paint hold up? I’m convinced you could make great food in a tin can, I just can’t have an eye sore lying around anymore.
@@danielchisena6609 i like my Oklahoma joe it does leak in some places but it cooks good food have a extended my smoke stack and added some gasket to where it leaks and it cut it down a lot but its good for the price i am also looking into a franklin pit which is kind expensive but i feel its the best for the money
My son is a welder and we designed brackets and a removable rack to slide into the smoker to increase smoker chamber capacity. The Lavalock door clamps were purchased from Amazon for only $18
Needs to cook with that door open and split that log in half Fire box is a lil small for that big log Air to fuel ratio is off I used to have the same problem. The goal is clear /light bye smoke my friend.
Thanks. This was the initial "seasoning" burn a couple years ago, to burn off unwanted factory smells, lubricants, adhesives and to add a protective coating to the unit for future protection. Every single meal since has been tremendous. Decent smoker.
@@PracticeMakesPaper he literally just started it up you can see by the coals and log, i can’t imagine you think you get this smoke a hour into a season. As long as you don’t start rubbing oil before it warm you’ll be alright
I like the way you sealed it off to prevent a whole lot of smoke from escaping

Luv my Oklahoma Joes Highlander offset smoker. 4yrs & going strong
That's alot of dirty smoke
Well it looks like he just started the fire. So it’s going to be dirty for a little while
Nice!!! I think this will be my next purchase. Thank you brother.
This video is giving off some real "how to basic" vibes.
Where did you get that second shelve?
My son is a welder and we designed and fabricated brackets and a removable rack to slide into top portion of smoker.
Do you guys sale them?
Can you ask you son to share the measurement

@@aldimascia I’m just now seeing this thank you !!
Hey man that’s a good idea where did u get those clamps and basket for fire box
Lavalock clamps and Shinestar stainless steel charcoal basket both from Amazon
Question. Once you set up the wood and charcoal in the firebox do you still use charcoal on the large side of the grill to cook your meat?
No. I use a charcoal chimney starter and newspaper to start the charcoal then add to burn chamber with a few pieces of wood. After that I only use smoking wood to cook meat.

Thanks 👍
I see the lava clamps I see some type of sealant and I'm assuming u have the gasket around the lid and yet I see smoke still being lost
there is no way to get it sealed all the way its not a 4500 dollar smoker this will be fine very minimal loss

@@xXhardcore108Xx check out the Low Country G2. It’s their recent upgrade to the Brazos
What did you use to seal between the exterior of the fire box to the cooking chamber?
Any high heat resistant silicone will suffice. I either used Lavalock or Rutland brand.
My Oklahoma Joe didn’t come with that top rack but it’s the same size pit
What's name of the device that's keeping the door sealed?
Lavalock clamps

Did you make that top rack/grate? I didn't think they come like that ? And where did you buy top rack ? And where did you get the door lock's?

Wher did you buy the top shelvs
I didn't. I designed the shelf and brackets and my son, who is a welder, fabricated it.
You wouldn't have all that smoke if you let the log catch fire real good.

That is literally what I came to say!
Yes definitely smaller splits and keep the door open until it actually lights for cleaner smoke. Basically what he ^ said
I’ll just shut my New Yorker mouth now bc you probably know all this already

Nice smoke bro
That smoke is so dirty. You need to let that log catch and breathe....
Bro... Hes doing the initial burnoff lol he's not cooking food on that thing
