- Rajeev Masand sits down for a chat with composer #AmitTrivedi about the genius of the #Manmarziyaan soundtrack and why it ought to have received more love at #Bollywood awards events. Trivedi explains why he's allergic to #remixes, and talks about the pressure he faces to do them. He also discusses the difference between inspiration and plagiarism, and reveals how allegations of stealing a tune 'destroyed' him some years ago.

AR Rahman: There are many upcoming singers and independent artistes. I keep promoting them by putting up their works on Facebook. Among the current lot in Bollywood, I like Amit Trivedi and Sneha Khanwalkar (composers).

Everyone is forgetting that Amit Trivedi had composed for Aisha. One of his earliest work. I love that album too. 'Suno Aisha', 'Lehrein', 'Gal Meethi Bol', 'Sham' & 'By the way'. Such a diverse & amazing album. He is one of the best we have in the industry. It's a crime that he isn't awarded for masterpiece Manmarziyaan

I am so surprised that there was no mention of 'Fitoor' at all throughout the interview. Nonetheless great interview and Amit Trivedi is a brilliant music composer and very original by miles than competition.

I'm glad he cleared up the Lootera debacle and yes, artists like him who don't have a history of plagarism (unlike cough Preetam cough) and are known for originality should be given the benefit of doubt.

Also, Amit Trivedi has come a long way. If you look at his old interviews, he just wouldn't sing, he outright refused to even sing one line! He was damn shy and awkward. Now we have this man who articulates his opinions well and how! I can tell Rajeev was probably an exception because Amit still looked a bit uncomfortable singing.
First of all, when you said you didn't do a roundtable because Amit couldn't make it, that's some legit integrity in your work. Wow. You also have a very nice way of asking uncomfortable but important and relevant questions. Kudos for that. Those are the questions that most of us viewers have in mind. Loved, loved when you mentioned the fine line between plagiarism and inspiration. I saw the previous interview where you asked personal questions to Neena Gupta, those were framed so well, they weren't offensive in the least bit.
Hope you read this comment and know that like Manmarziyan, your research and hard work didn't go unnoticed, and you're under appreciated too. Keep up the good work!

When guys like KK and Amit Trivedi say that they don't work towards awards, you believe them.
Filmfare Award was given to Padmaavat because T-Series had sponsored it. This year the best music category was renamed Gulshan Kumar Best Music Award, so it had to be won by an album released on T-Series. Not a single song of Padmaavat is memorable, but it's a pointless argument because the award wasn't given on the basis of merit. Zee Cine Awards gave the best music award to Ajay-Atul for Dhadak because the film was produced by Zee Studios and it's music was released on Zee Music Company. In any case, any award function that has a category of Best Actor (Popular) as well as Best Actor (Critics) doesn't want itself to be taken seriously.
Ek dil ek jaan. That is a song that has stayed with me and Ghoomar because I'm a dancer so the beats just get me grooving. But others, not so much :)

I love almost every song Amit Trivedi produces but why doesn't someone acknowledge him for Fitoor, there is so much finesse in that album. Tbh, his last strongest album was Fitoor. In the last two years the songs he created are good but we know Amit Trivedi can do way better, like Aamir, Udaan, Lootera, Queen, Kai po che, Aisha, Dev D and even Coke studio.
