    Im gonna make a note when it comes to RPGs, they have 2 main warheads on the RPG-7, the PG-07 which is the Armour Piercing warhead I believe, and an OG-07 Warhead which is High Explosive. Against an SUV, and a group of terrorists may have more access to the High Explosive warhead than a Tandem Charge PG-07

    • @maxm1645
      @maxm1645 24 วันที่ผ่านมา

      But even then, wouldnt the mass of the warhead be way to less to flip a 2-3 ton SUV? I'm just guessing here as I remember the size of the german RPG and that thing wasn't that massive. I'd compare that to maybe 3 handgrenades and I'd be pretty sure an SUV wouldnt flip from that. But could be wrong as well ^^ and its also 20 years since military^^

    • @sparrowflyaway
      @sparrowflyaway 24 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Right? I never understood that choice for testing this myth. It’s basic momentum, you want to push it up then you apply the force to the underside, not the front. Even the example Hollywood clip showed the RPG going down and exploding underneath the car to flip it.

    • @wowzanpakutou
      @wowzanpakutou 22 วันที่ผ่านมา

      You can see from how little the car moves from a frontal impact that even if they fired it under and it wasn't a shaped charge, it wouldn't have lifted it at all. Being it's a shaped charge though most of the force would go into the ground, not lifting the car. Not worth even testing honestly.

    Jato 3 was the most expensive myth they ever did. They had to go to the management of Discovery itself to get the funding for it which normally they didn't do. Normally they just did what they could with a regular budget but this one they had to make a deal for. That's also why they had so many powerful rockets, the dump truck, 2 prestine shevy impala's and so much other stuff. They managed to get a big budget for that myth and they made sure to use it.

    The flipping of a car is one of Hollywood's favorite cliches. It looks good on camera and is fairly easy to do using a ramp. Has anyone counted all the movies in which the stunt is used? The clip at the beginning with the impact, explosion, and flipping- that is typical 1990's action-thriller dreck. Some CIA conspiracy nonsense that required the flipping of a SUV. Watch that scene, and the countless other movie scenes just like it, and feel the mindlessness get pushed into your mind. Real physics is more interesting.
    When Mythbusters fired a RPG into the big heavy engine block of a big heavy SUV, it looked as if much of the energy of the explosion was absorbed by the engine block. The million-dollar question is what would happen to the occupants of the SUV. If bad guys wanted to kill the occupants, they might not aim for the engine.

    • @Yvolve
      @Yvolve 25 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Real crashes don't look spectacular on camera, for the regular viewer. Same with explosions. Nothing to do with CIA nonsense. Hollywood just figured out a very repeatable method of making a car chase look spectacular. Shooting a scene like that is very expensive and takes forever to set up. You want a sure-fire way of getting it done in as few takes as possible. If a stunt team made it work on one movie, they likely get hired to repeat the same trick. Just how the industry works.

      @Yvolve 25 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      It is clear you didn't watch the show. The whole point is to test a myth as it is. In this case, the myth an RPG can flip a car, regardless of how realistic it is. Obviously this won't work, but they test it and explain why it doesn't work. They almost always set up an experiment to replicate the myth.

    • @Yvolve
      @Yvolve 25 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@ladyhavoc1281 That is pointless. No RPG is going to flip a vehicle. It has nowhere near enough explosives in there. They're meant to penetrate armour, with a shaped charge. Fragmentation is just to injure troops. Thermobaric melts stuff.
      To flip an SUV you need a lot of explosives, below it, to force it up. This is why movies use a huge pneumatic cannon to flip cars. It blasts a big metal piston into the road, flipping the car.

      @@Yvolve As I said, I do not believe it could flip an SUV, but as you said: test a myth as it is. But in the movie clip they showed, nobody said it was an armour piercing warhead. There are high explosive warheads as well. Then in the movie clip they did not shoot in the front of the car, but on the underside in the street. Would that flip an SUV? Most likely not. But would it be a better test of the myth? Definitely yes.

    • @Yvolve
      @Yvolve 25 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      @@gordonbrinkmann To get into the explosive side in this comment:
      It still won't matter, except it will be harder to get a high explosive RPG, and/or more expensive. It changes so little for the test they're doing, it is not worth it. There is also 0 chance it flips. Genuinely impossible. In the Deadliest Catch episode, they put 4 pounds of C4 under a crab cage. Made from solid steel bar, bent and welded. Weighs 800 pounds or something ridiculous. The explosive sits under two corners and it only just flips. This SUV 6500 pounds, the RPG has at best 2 kg's of thermobaric explosives. Regular HEAT is 730 grams (26 oz), tandem is 1,43 kg (3.2lbs). That is not going to flip 6500 pounds of steel and metal. Frag version is only 210 gr (7.4 oz). Just there to injure troops. An injured soldier takes up resources, a dead one takes up a casket, if you want to look at it from the bleak perspective of weapons design.
      As I said in the other comment: they shot through the car. 9:24. The first angle show it going through the bottom of the windshield and through the car. The second angle it goes through the bonnet and engine. Poor continuity in post production.
      You also have to realise the vast majority of people have no idea what the difference even means. You have to explain this in the episode, taking away time from showing big boom. In making TV, there are choices and not everything can be as perfect as you want it.

      @@gordonbrinkmann It wouldn't matter. No RPG has the explosive payload to flip an SUV, ever. You're looking at massive tank round for that to happen.

      @@Yvolve As I wrote under your other comment: it wouldn't matter, but it would be a better test of the shown myth. If someone in a movie showed to crack a bowling ball with a steel hammer, it would probably not matter for the result (I have no idea actually) if they tested it with a wood hammer, but you could argue that they did not perform the test correctly.

      @@gordonbrinkmann In the clip, it is shot from a roof, goes through the bonnet and the entire engine, and blows up when hitting the ground. No way to replicate that.
      The issue with aiming below the car is the setup. It is difficult hitting a spot below the engine, without clipping the ground, the bumper or have it bounce off the ground. Especially when you're comparing a stationary target with a moving one. Timing it right on the rolling target is going to be a challenge. Those RPG rockets are not cheap.
      From a production standpoint, it is not feasible to aim at the ground. Simply too much risk. Aiming dead ahead, at a flat surface is a lot safer.
      I'm also doubting the bomb range would be ok with aiming at the ground. The RPG rocket is designed to detonate when the front hits something. If it glances and bounces out from underneath the car, you are in trouble.
      Practicality and safety trumps reality in these cases.

      No, it's double-glazed. There is a space in between the two panes. This is why they have a metal strip along the edges. it acts as a spacer.
      Some windows might have a UV blocking filter installed, but that won't stop it from breaking, or shattering.
