This video taught me that Madagascar and Shrek canonically take place in the same universe at the same timeline.
Shrek takes place centuries ago and Madagascar takes place in the 2000s-2010s

I used to love this game as a kid and played it all the time. No joke, I’ve played this game more times than I’ve actually seen the film
I had this on PS2 growing up. I had fun playing the multiplayer mini-games with my brother.
10:02 can't believe that's the only thing I remember from playing this game like ten years ago. It was beautiful.
Fun fact: The Xbox 360 version of this game was bundled with Viva Piñata: Party Animals and Sonic 06 in collaboration with the Children’s Miracle Network for just $30, with all proceeds going to the Children’s Miracle Network. Nowadays, it’s pretty rare and retails usually for about $65.

I played this on PC and PSP and pretty much agree with you on the opening and creative use of puppetry for the cutscenes. Most of the voice actors from the Shrek 2 game return and in general I thought this as a whole was alright. Not a great game but not the worse licensed game out there or even the worst Shrek based game.
Though it's worth noting that the only actor from the Shrek the Third movie to return is John Cleese who plays Fiona's dad. He's also the narrator of the game
For the combat, I don't think it's bad and I personally think it's way more enjoyable than Over the Hedge's own since there are various finishers, light and heavy attacks, charged attacks, grab attacks, special moves and so on. You stated that it was akin to a beat-em-up but this reminded me of the PS2 God of War games albeit dumbed down and stiffer since stuff like the charged attacks and special finishers felt similar to em. It was one of the better combat systems I had come across in a Dreamworks game though I think the first Kung Fu Panda game takes the cake in terms of combat
Though I agree with you on Over the Hedge having much better and more frantic level and enemy design
Ik you ain't a huge fan of the game but you forgot to mention that Shrek's alternate costumes are based on attires he wore in the various films. The Knight outfit is from where he saved Fiona in Shrek 1, the swimming outfit from that one moment where he was making out with Fiona in Shrek 2 and the purple Royalty outfit is taken from the one scene in the Shrek the Third film where he and Fiona have to dress up formally, one of Fiona's alt attires is from when Harold dies in the movie. And to top it all off each had their perks(Some reward you you more fairy dust, etc) It's attention to detail like this that can make me appreciate a game like this even if it's flawed. I don't even think the latter game Shrek Forever After nor the better games like Shrek 2 or Shrek Superslam brought back alternate skins
Also you did say the soundtrack was mostly eh and though I agree I think the theme from Stromboli's workshop is a banger. It doesn't even feel like it's from a Shrek game
As for the models, yeah most look silly. I think Shrek's model minus the stiff animations is the best out of the bunch and probably looks the best out of the games. It's a shame the animation work didn't really do em justice
If the devs of this game had polished up the character animations(especially the facial ones), improved the level design and performance issues I could've seen myself loving it cause I do like some of the ideas the non movie content have, For example the Ice Lady acting like a Mean Girls character, the stage where Captain Hook sings a song throughout the level and implies that he either killed Peter Pan or severely injured him, Stromboli himself creating puppets that lack the humanity Pinocchio has(Giving his sections some creepy vibes). Stuff like this adds to the whole meta fairy tale vibe that the franchise is known for
The best thing to come out of this game is that the Shrek character model is somehow used for memes and videogame mods(Every Triple A game that has a Shrek mod defaults to it for some reason)

Both Shrek 2 and the Third games share the same casting and VO director, Margaret Tang who also VO directed the console versions of Over the Hedge, Shark Tale and Madagascar
They pumped out shrek games but no prince of Egypt. Imagine a prince of Egypt game that plays like Shin Megami Tensei.
Ooh so thats why the GBA Shrek The Third had more references to past Dreamworks games as it was gonna be the last one thats so bitter sweet

I only played the gba version as I keep mentioning in most these videos and I would say I had more fun with the third even if its a weaker version of Shrek 2 [never played but I can just tell given hours I sunk into with 3] the difficulty spike pretty wild
I owned this game as a kid (I still do) and didn't pick up Shrek 2 on PS2 until 2015. Certainly a waste of time looking back, Shrek 2 is obviously a superior experience.
The audio commentaries were humorous to be fair.
Wow, you can see the animations of characters losing frames as they get further away from the camera, as if it was a very early 3d game trying to save on resources, to the point they have less frames per second than the game running and looks really choppy.
I have not seen that on 360 games ever before.
I saw your Cars and Pixar videos and I was wondering if you were wanting to talk about Bolt or the other Cars sequels? I think they're both pretty good
I went over it in the toy story 3 video, but to save you the time, the cars sequels i'll get around too when i cover the rest of the pixar games (particularly the spin offs, brave and the huge amount of handheld games). As for the bolt game, i'm not sure honestly

If you want too, Mater-national has a pretty decently large remaster/modding community. The Cars LEGENDS mod makes all the characters look absolutely amazing.

to be fair, although there are alot of shrek games. theres only 4(or 5) Movies
What's weirder is how Shrek's mainline games have had various genre changes
The first one felt like a less polished Mario 64 but with far and burp sounds and that weird feature where you couldn't really kill enemies
Shrek 2 felt a mix between a LEGO game(Certain characters being only to do specific things) and Ultimate Alliance(being able to play with 4 heroes and switch on the fly)
Shrek the Third goes the beat-em-up route
And finally Shrek Forever is like a lower budget version of Ultimate Alliance where it focuses in switching characters on the fly to solve puzzles(I think it even had co-op like that game too)
Normally games based on one character stick to one or two genres but the Shrek tie-ins are a fascinating exception

If you don't know if this is the worst DreamWorks game you've played, make it an E-tier exclusive.
E-tier, which would be games you don't know if they're the worst, would be between D-tier (games you really don't like but don't think they're outright terrible) and F-tier (the worst; absolutely garbage games).
I played the PC version, though I never finished this game. (It was because I was playing on Grimm Difficulty.) Though I think the PC version is the worst way to play because the minigames from the console versions is straight up gone. I think the best way to play this game is the PS2 version. Also I want to note that for the Bee Movie Game, the Wii version is completely different from the PC, PS2 and Xbox 360 versions.

Boy do I have a story about the DS version of this game. So it's around early July, I have a bit of spare money and I see Shrek 3 DS at my local gamestop for $30 ish. I remember how Shrek 2 on GBA was pretty good so I figure Shrek 3 DS must be more of the same, but with better graphics. So I buy it. turns out It sucks. It's one of those DS games that forces you to move with the touchscreen. There is a perfectly usable D-pad on the DS, but some developers insisted on using this microbrain control scheme where you do almost everything with the stylus. Like mobile games, except worse cause those at least tend to give you an onscreen joystick. Those DS games just had you slide your stylus. And this game used that, it ruined the whole experience for me. In addition, the game sounded way worse and had much slower pacing than the GBA title. But the control scheme really is what killed it to me above all else.
but what made me truly hate it is what happened 2 weeks later. My sister was looking through an advertising magazine by a local electronics store and saw Pokemon Emerald and decided she wanted to buy it. So we went to the store with our dad and when we got there, my dad realised that Pokemon D/P had just released and told my sister that she should get that instead. And I kinda freaked out inside my mind right then, because I just realised I could have bought a brand new Pokemon game near release date if I hadn't wasted my money on a shitty Shrek game. I got jealous of my sister and tried convicncing her she should get emerald anyway since that's what she came for, but to no avail. When I got home, I was angry, like going straight to bed and punching my pillow angry at the fact that I could have played Pokemon DP if I hadn't taken a chance on Shrek 3 just 2 weeks earlier. I wanted to trade it out of spite, but I would only get like $3 so I couldn't justify it.
The story has a bit of a happy ending seeing as my sister found the game hard to understand and asked me for help. So I basically beat the game for her. Later on, gamestop had a promotion where you could trade in 3 DS games plus a DS lite to get a better price on the DSi, which I took advantage of and I finally cleaned my hands of that horrid Shrek 3 DS game. The fun thing about that game, is that my sister tried it a few times and she ended up having a nightmare where she was playing the game, got stuck on a part and then Shrek looked directly at the screen and said "You're stuck, you can't go any further". and then he just walked off the screen. So it was so bad, even my sister suffered for it.
It is a game that exists for people to play.
Hopefully the 🐝 movie game will 🐝 more entertaining and 🐝 more fun as well.
