Shriek prolly has one of the most interesting designs of any character I’ve seen, she’s like a corrupted Phoenix that rose from the ash and dust but never really escaped it
That is a PERFECT way of putting it!
Shriek looks like Glowl a bit from MSM but more darker
How does her wings even work?
@@Pablo_Martin_aa if you look closely, there are feathers tangled up in her wings, so when she goes to fly they move out of their place and form wings! sorry if I'm not very good at explaining, I hope that was good enough lol
And if you look at her “legs”/wings when she’s walking, you can see that the formation is that of a wing!
If you have ever looked at a full chickens wing, you can see that the bone structure is the same!
It's just a little gut-punching to realize just how young she was when you saw the size difference between her and her parents. Throughout the game, she was always so big and imposing, but when she cuddles up to her parent, you get to see just how small she is
Oh my goodness you’re right. She always seems so big but it’s only because of her wings. When you compare her without them, she is easily oversized or tied in size with characters from both games.
the name Shriek's means to cry out in a high-pitched voice
Her huddling her dead parents broke my heart
I sobbed when she snuggled under her parents' wing to die. And she was still much smaller than they were.. deliberate I suppose, to reinforce she was still their baby. So wish she'd had a happier ending, all she wanted was a family.
I just finished it for the second time and sobbed when I came to that scene too, just like the first time I did. It's such a heart-rending game. Both Ori games are, but to me this one is just a tad better than the other one at ripping your heart out and squeezing it into a withered rag.
@@TheSeaItIsStillViolent I finished it my second time when I realized she actually died
The child who is not embraced by the village will burn it down to feel its warmth.
Chills!
😭😭😭😭
I approve this quote.

@@FloTheSpiritLight Bro we get it, whats with the 50 comments?
I watched a streamer play this game blind a few months ago. When the camera faded out on the final Shriek scene, all he could say was:
"It's not fair."
I really like that they went a more realistic, if much more tragic, route with shrieks ending. The fact is a lot of people cannot be turned away from their own inner darkness with a simple showing of kindness. Many people get so far gone that they will choose to remain in that darkness. It's all they know after a point.
That being said I give the game credit for taking a irredeemable, corrupt character like shriek and still making you feel sorry for her in the end. All that she ever wanted was to feel some kind of love and acceptance from someone, but the closest she ever got in her life was to die in the arms of her parents dead corpses.
This is pretty much I expect from Spinel from Steven Universe.
Feels pretty fresh and takes a huge risk if you ask me.
@Jakeichan Still, very refreshing.
I guess then he find the peace at the end then, right?😢
@@inkyelpequenodiabloangel4417 that's the tragedy though, I don't think he did. He just crawled back to the closest thing he knew to peace, his dead parents, since his lifetime of rage prevented him from ever finding anything actually good in life.
6:07 the sad detail that Shriek eyes widened at the realization her parents are dead.
The animators could make the characters emote so well without dialog. It’s masterful.
I love how she uses her wings to walk, almost like crutches. It shows how broken she is.
Shriek and Kuro are some of the most sympathatic 'bad guys' i have ever seen, Kuro was protecting her kid, Shriek is coping with a very bad case of PTSS, i love these games.
We went from a owl trying to protect her only child to a owlet who only wanted love and acceptance despite being deformed by the decay. Shriek is essentially a child with special needs, sadly her being rejected for being different is a thing that does happen in reality as well..she was never a villian just someone with nothing left to lose.
Hunchback of Notre Dame never be evil like it and his condition like sherik
I wish Shriek got a happier ending. But rewatching Shrieks cutscenes made me realize the message is that not everyone can be saved from a lifetime of rejection with just a little spark of warmth. If she did die in the ending, she at least got to reunite with her parents in the afterlife, if there is a afterlife in this game series?
Hello darknes my old friend. >(The Sound of Silence)
@weirdalfanatic2788 How can she choose to be saved, if all she gets is this one little moment where she was not killed by an enemy? I think she didn't even realize what was happening. She was afraid of the light and attacked first, because it is the only kind of interaction she knows. Then the light hurts her, confirming her first impression that she needs to be afraid of it. She expects a second attack from the light but it is not coming, so she uses the moment to distract her enemy and flee. She was in pain and in survival mode, so there was no chance of her noticing what Ori did. Also, none of the creatures in the forest ever tried to contact her, they chose to ignore her until she was to strong and to much in pain to be contacted. So it really wasn't her choice to not be saved, it was the forests choice to not help her and to let her die inside. It really pissed me off about this game, that it acted as if it was Shrieks fault for not seeing this one tiny gesture after a lifetime of being alone and having to kill to survive.
weirdalfanatic2788 She is one owl (?) who got rejected, deformed, ignored, feared, and rejected again, and died.
MustLuvDogs Her modified wings are what make her look monstrous
There not modifications it's because her wings are so tall it's like walking sticks
As much as it was a total emotional gut-punch, I absolutely *LOVE* the fact that Moon Studios didn't chicken out on denying Shriek a redemption arc. Given how much of the WotW story feels like it's re-treading Blind Forest story territory, the ending was an emotionally brutal bait-and-switch that really got me. Hate the way it made me feel, love the way it was executed.
What the fuck are you talking about? WotW had a way different story than Blind Forest. Are you stupid?
@@cj131 chill
I must admit, Shriek’s end was a real gut punch for me. I wanted a full redemption for her, but I understand and accept why it wasn’t possible. She was a victim of horrible circumstances and never recovered. A tragic character from birth to death.
The story is more tragic when you realized that Shriek dies in her own nest. And when you know that the first Thingbshe Saw when she was hatched was her death parentes
She’s quite majestic,
When viewed from a safe distance...
You know you have a great game when you have a antagonist you feel bad for even when you don't agree with what they are doing. Shriek just wanted to be loved and accepted😢
She was still a baby too (teen maybe) she was so young and went though so much. She’s honestly my favorite because of her design and story. I wish they could have saved her, but I believe they were trying to show what a life time of abuse and exile does to someone and that not everyone can be saved
I've seen it happen unfortunately to someone too the person in question, she was special needs too mentally not all up there and her parents abused her I told her that she could have run away after 18 but she didn't. She could have gotten away! She endured endless trauma I told her that she herself had a solid case to sue both her parents with witnesses! Her other siblings saw this and were horrified by the monster she had become exactly like her father wanted her to be. In many ways she's exactly like shriek, and I don't often say this about many people I know but a absolute monster of a human being who shouldn't ever have kids because she would end up killing it. Its not mental competence at this point its the fact she's incapable of moving beyond it because she's consumed by the darkness of being forced to live outside on a porch like some sort of animal. If the details are that vivid and can be coorberated then its no lie. She couldn't comprehend what kindness was she wasn't able to understand social standards of being a reasonable person to that ends she was completely beyond my help, or the help of any therapist unfortunately. I avoid her because I know what she could do and her words do not inspire anything but fear.
Lifetime of abuse doesn't always mean you can't be saved. People han always choose.
Parents dead, rejected by everyone, and lives in isolation since she was a child. Here's 1 kind moment, please forgot all that pain. LOGIC!
She tried though
What? This game obviously has logic. The character development of these games are really realistic.
Ori is a stubborn little spirit.
Ugh... Do you know psychology of resentment works. It traps you in a cycle that the next time you see kindness you reject it for vengeance.
Hakan Karaağaç yeah thats what he is saying, that ori isnt very smart for thinking that theu can make shriek good again
Poor Shriek. I have so much sympathy for her. And did anyone else notice that the moon shining on her egg was the only thing keeping her warm?(Idk I may be wrong about that)
Shriek’s deformed look made her look like a threat to the mother owls and the Moki. Being ostracized, she went back to ash and dust, her heart turning into stone.
Getting attacked by Seir just further proved her mindset to reject the warmth. Ori stopping Seir wasn’t enough to change her.
She still saw NO reason to accept it after getting defeated by Ori. But I understand that. Not everyone can be saved in this world. Some fall so low to the point where they don’t want help or can be changed. Shriek is one of those people.
She curled up in her parent’s skeletal wings and laid there, closing her eyes. Her past is tragic and sad, her deformed looks making her look like a threat to species. But all she wanted was to be loved and have warmth.
She became a villain after that terrible event, lost and pitiful.
Finally someone said it
If you treat someone like monster...
Then they become a monster.
Really gets me at the point of tears at the end.
@@fine_ol_chap ... Too many times in the real world monsters r made out of the rejected sadly
I don't believe Shriek was truly evil, just someone who was very misunderstood and was sadly beyond the point of help. Her story is truly gut-wrenching
So it is with most people in real life who are considered 'evil'. That's why this game is such a masterpiece. There's always a path that leads to corruption, and many people who end up on it do so through no fault of their own. Bad experiences, cruelty from others, neglect, loneliness, physical disabilities; all of these things can damage a person, and lead them down a path of despair and sadness that ends in hatred and a desire to hurt everyone else, who they have now deemed their tormenters, or the enablers of their tormenters who equally deserve that punishment. Politicians, educators and bad story-writers have impressed upon many the idea that some people are just evil inside, and point to certain actions of theirs as justification, never bothering to look into why they performed those actions. The other brave and honest thing this game did was show that by the time someone who could help her actually came along, it was too late; and so it is with many people in real life, and for the good of everyone else they, who are themselves the victims of so much, need to be got rid of.
1:00 “Ku!” The greatest thing to ever grace my ears
Why did I watch this again... I knew I will be crying again... why do i still torture myself like this...
The way ori shouted ku’s name is just so cute😭
I adore Shriek. Even with her circumstances I would hug her and love her. She was just the way she was because she never experienced any sort of love. I never thought she was evil because she was just misunderstood and just liked eating food.
Shriek started out as just a predator to us but the more we played, the more we came to understand her. The more we noticed that she isn't evil nor is she a bully. She is simply alone and has been that way her whole life. Rejecting the light is the same as any of us rejecting any form of love from the people who just want to love us.
Not everyone can be saved from darkness. This game deserves more.
Very well said
That final almost made me cry 😢
😞
Finnaly a compilation of shriek cutscenes thank you :D
Shrieks appereance at minute 3 is one of the most epic I‘ve ever seen. Along with the music, I always get goosebumps every time I see the scene.
Monsters weren't born, they are made from horrible experiences
Kaneki Ken
The way, Ori interrupts Seir's attack and gently puts them to the side is soo freaking adorable
Shriek: There you are. Your little light will shine no more. AH! No, NO!!!
Ori: Seir, wait! Just wait.
Shriek: ...
Ori: Shriek, please try to understand. I can help you.
Shriek: DON'T TRY THAT TRICK ON ME!!!
Baby shriek is so cute, and I feel so bad for her. I want to hug her
same
It just sank in why Shriek attempted to murder Ku: she is a member of the owl species that rejected her. Here I was thinking Shriek was a stereotypical “back for revenge” villain, but noooo.
What's significant is how at first, Shriek wanted nothing to do with Ku, and just Flicked her away.
at 3:30 Shriek isn't even going for the kill yet, she just stands there for a few seconds staring at Ku, before deciding to kill her.
I think Shriek was genuinely thinking about what to do with Ku, if she should spare her or get rid of her. Ku's insistence on trying to antagonise her probably triggered a painful memory on how she was rejected as a child. Unable to process the emotional pain as an adult, Shriek did the only thing she knew how to get rid of said pain; get rid of its source, and that source was Ku in that moment, thus prompting her decision to stomp on her.
I kind of wish I could give shriek a hug... but I can't :(
She’ll kill you
Why not?
1 sec after turns into stone

I am not ashamed to say that her cry as she fell made me tear up a bit when I first played.
A villain is never born, but made. Shriek and Kuro had such a sad background... I love owls and it breaks my heart see them suffering so much
I love her design
Two ways for shining : produce light or reject it... Sad end for Shriek who make the only but wrong choice.
Shriek is the first and last villain for whom we are so sad.
Shriek's design is so cool. Though for some reason its very unsatisfying to watch her use her back legs (or arms) to launch and take flight when she can just use her massive stilts to jump instead.
probably my absolute favourite video game antagonist as of yet
Impressive how Shriek grows into such a giant all by herself
Shriek's scenes made me cry.😢
Why Shriek's story and her death hits me harder than Kuro?
😭😭😭😭
Please,
No more rejection please 😭😭😭😭
They screw this poor creature for the entire game. When I cleared the game I was hoping if Ori would help her but it didn't happen.
Bro, it's realistic that Ori didn't help her. After suffering a lifetime of depression, rejection and hate, you think a little warmth of sunlight can save someone who has ventured too far into the darkness? This is a realistic ending.
@@cj131 but it's awful how it ended due the past history of her. For me it was frustrating seen she never get any redemption at all.
Even a person living in darkness han turn into the light. As Dumbledore said, it's our choices that makes us who we are.
1:12 get you someone who looks at you like Ku looks at Ori 😍🥰
Siblings, Siblings, Siblings, Siblings!
What is sad is that Shriek was violent and monstrous so that everyone would be as miserable as she was. But in the end, she failed to realize that it never helps.
C Blake Shreik’s parents😢
Shriek is cool and all, but Kuro never lost a fight. There's no question which owl is stronger.
Tbf we never got to fight Kuro, and Ori is waaaaaay more powerful in Will of the wisps
U can see that Shriek is way smaller than her parents and Kuro was one of the biggest owls in the game. Even in the second game Ori would not have a slight chance against Kuro.
Actually the only reason ori can attack shriek is because the armor was broken off.
For a game with an E rating, the message that hurting others enough leads to them becoming a monster who can’t turn back, and instead of saving them you have to break the system that broke them is incredibly mature.
10:22 This scene just explain so much ! The way that the light wants to fight the shadow and the spirit who just don't want anyone or anything to get injured...TJIS IS SO SAAAaAAAAaAAAAAD😭😭😭😭😭💜💜💜
Shriek is a pretty hard fight because you don't really want to, but she's not giving you a choice... just like life never gave her a chance. The last bit is a tear jerker.
I always wanted to play these games, but never made it priority. I’m glad I finally did. It was one of the most beautifully made games I’ve ever played, and with Shriek in particular, one of the most emotionally challenging. I wasn’t ready for it at all.
Shriek is one of those villains who got recluded by their own sibling because of their difference. That's tragic, but sadly common.
About her design. It's a very cool one. Her wings can be used as a second pair of legs (some very big and humanoid like legs).
looked like a monster, treated like a monster and became a monster. shriek never knew love or compassion so she lashed out at ori when they tried to offer it and at the end she dies in the embrace of her dead parents the only time she felt loved. no one deserves to have a life like that
two different owls and two different endings

I think the best place for Shriek to feel a sense of belonging is Planet Zebes. Or at least it could serve as a quarantine for her preffered activities...
I think deeply about this and it makes me think that Shriek is the Devil of Niwen in Ori And The Will Of The Wisps.
Fun fact when the yellow light orb (sorry forgot what its called) repels shriek the mask breaks and the horns fall off
When I first saw Shriek, I was like “yo is that zombie Kuro?”
But what happened to the egg next to Shriek after she hatched?
It most likely didn’t survive.
By some reason i readed Shrek
She The last of her kind. I feel bad for her. The same thing wolod has happened if I was The last Of my kind
didn't know about shreks full backstory.
(I do mean shrek)
I wonder who designed Shriek the bird?
You missed a cutscene of shriek I did the sand dig and she was standing like way the background like right here 9:55 after you come back to this area
If this was America she would be the kid that would go one day fully equipped with guns and start shooting anything in sight and then foster the people would make a song for them.
Omg this is so freaking sad
0:31 silent of woods
Kuro lost everything. Shriek never had anything to begin with. Both of their tales are tragic ones, of anger brought by sadness. Both of them were wronged by the world merely for trying to live.
Baur describes Shriek as a "pitiful" creature. In contemporary speak, the word "pitiful" is often used as an insult for a person we don't like. But Baur uses the word in its purest definition: one deserving of pity. Kuro's last moments were those of a hero. Shriek spent her final moments alone. Shriek's story is indescribably sorrowful.
6:42 QAQ
Honestly i really liked shrieks story because the whole time i was scared they were gonna just pull a kuro 2, especially in the brief moment of calmness when ori stops seir, so to see them pull a very realistic and depressing ending with her suprised me and i kinda prefer it over kuro's, idk i always prefer villains so far off the deep end that they cannot be pulled back, handsome jack i think is a perfect example of this.
I also like how they ended up making her sort of the foil to kuro, one accepts the light and is redeemed while the otber rejects it and is alone to the end.
Also at 3:00 , genuine chills with that music, christ.
why actually Shirek wanted to kill Ori? she cant live in not corupted world or what?
Ori is an embodiment of light, which is a very similar thing to warmth and love in this world. Ori reminded Shriek of that, causing her to feel immense hate toward Ori. Plus, that’s just on top of the fact that when in the Silent Woods, Shriek is just protecting the home, while in other times, she’s probably pissed that Ori brought an owlet (her kin that rejected her) into her home as well
Shriek hates light and also hates her kind, Shriek learned that power and fear was the only way she was accepted in this world, she is clearly scarred with trauma and is hyper sensitive to sound and movement as shown when she drops her food to hunt when ori makes a loud snap of those sticks, she can't stand it, essentially your seeing a creature born of corruption who was so traumatised it lives in perpetual suffering and also inflicts suffering itself. Brutal
3:32 When Ori reminds you what type of game it is
Did anyone notice that's there 2 egg
seregios apex I’m guessing one egg did not survive
Yeah, but anytime you see the nest after Shriek grows up, you can see the second egg still there, probably dead
i know right
Definitely stillborn
Man I'm a grown up in my 30s, I love beer and Heavy Metal - but this game is something else... and that ending scene with Shriek gives me wet eyes everytime I watch it.
I want the full quote of this. It is said in the game but it is not in this video.

If you are going to include scenes with dialogue in, maybe don't skip the dialogue?
It’s assuming you already played the game and know the dialogue, so I’d recommend doing that if you haven’t already. Otherwise I don’t really see the problem here. Could you elaborate?
