Thom! Thanks again for everything, I can't wait to show you the video from the Dalton Highway, as I know you'll find that one especially interesting knowing it as well as you do!
180 miles to give pizza is absolutely insane, must be such a crazy life out there. From the UK, for some reason I just love all the Alaskan videos and stories. Seem like real genuine people, can't wait to see the next episode. :)
Just found your channel. These type of videos makes me so excited to bikepack more. I have just discovered bikepacking and still have ALOT to learn but your videos are inspirational, entertaining and helpful!
Awesome video, great selection of shots, some story telling, showing what bikepacking life is like, and the social encounters. What a beautiful place and such hospitality and kindness by the Alaskans. I gotta get there one day too.
Awesome episode, my only wish is that I discovered you further into your journey so I could binge all the episodes. Keep up the good work, and safe travels from Scotland.
I just rode Palmer to Fairbanks a couple weeks ago. That last cafe for 75 miles sign looked inviting but I was in a hurry to get home and blew right past it.
now I wanna go there. Do you know when is the best moment of the year fo do it? Ehen did you did it? Thanks and all the best on your awesome adventures!
We were in Alaska from mid-June to mid-August, basically the middle of summer. I'd say the best time would be a bit earlier or later, though, since the mosquitoes can be really bad in midsummer. I'd probably look at May or September.
These days I can support myself as I travel through writing, photography, a few other bits and pieces, and now also TH-cam. But for the vast majority of my travels I've just worked a normal job, saved up as much as I could, and then travelled as cheaply as I could to make my savings last. Bike travel can be extremely cheap if you're careful; for my first entire year on the road my total budget for everything was less than $5 per day!
Ha yeah I love Clo's cap too. I'm not sure where he got it, if you have Instagram you could try sending him a message to ask; his username is @lepedalistan :)
I bet you'll encounter the same level of hospitality and free stuff when you get to Mexico.... good luck in the USA though watch out for the Ford F-1050 omega trucks, the front end its 7 feet high.
Thanks, I'm really looking forward to Mexico so I hope you're right about the hospitality there! The US is definitely the land of big cars, but in the lower 48 at least it should be easier to avoid the roads as there will be a lot more route options! :)
Yes, an ice field must be crossed but it's the namesake of the hike. It was a Superfortress Bomber from WWII that crashed during a training mission in the 50's@@tristanrid
I've never measured but I'm not sure mine changes too much when I'm on tour, although I'm already fairly slim so I don't have much to lose. I do know a few people that have lost a tonne of weight on bike trips though!
They were just riding up to Fairbanks, we didn't see them again after leaving them to ride into Denali but I'm sure they made it. Alaska definitely isn't somewhere I'd generally recommend an e-bike for touring, but they made it work!
This is Thom, your chauffeur from Deadhorse! Loving your videos and glad to see the great hospitality you received. Cheers, guys!

Ha yeah that was definitely overachieving in terms of hospitality! Thanks, looking forward to sharing it once I've squeezed in some time to edit!
When there’s not much to do why not help others smile. 🙂
Welcome to our backyard. We have worked on that trail along Eklutna lake, our glacial fed water supply for Anchorage. pronounced “Eklootna”.
Thanks! I was pronouncing it completely wrong then, thanks for the correction! 😃

Nice, it must be starting to get pretty cold up there by now!
I was told it snowed in Cantwell the night before I passed through there. Been hovering around freezing at night recently but no deep frost yet.
Really great videos, a fascinating area to see, many thanks
Thank you!
What a beautiful vidéo, Mate. Well done champion !
Thank you!
inspirational Tristan !!
Thank you!
Supermarket protocol is most interesting! ;)
The less glamorous side to bike travel, which actually makes up a big chunk of the day-to-day 😃

Looking forward to episode 3. I ran into you all on the Denali road and later at the bus station. Was wondering what happened after Toklat River.
Ah I remember you, yeah that was a pretty hectic day! Episode 3 is almost done, looking forward to sharing it soon!
So good vid. I wish I was there with you guys. Be safe
Thank you!
absolutely beautiful but how on earth does one finance this? what do you do for a living? or is it through sponsors? :)

I love the cycling cap: rough stuff/ shut up legs ❤ Do you mind sharing where to buy it?
Ha yeah I love Clo's cap too. I'm not sure where he got it, if you have Instagram you could try sending him a message to ask; his username is @lepedalistan :)
Great videos! You need to upload these new chapters ASAP!
Thanks! And yeah I'm working on it! 😁
Awh I love this so much❤❤
😘
Hi. Do you use a dynamo or, any protection against possible dangerous wild life encounters?
I don't use a dynamo as I find power banks work fine for me, and yeah in Alaska and Canada I always had bear spray with me :)

Curious if you were aware of the plane crash site at the end of the Bomber Glacier hike
I wasn't aware of that, is that up on the glacier itself?
Yes, an ice field must be crossed but it's the namesake of the hike. It was a Superfortress Bomber from WWII that crashed during a training mission in the 50's@@tristanrid
Ah amazing, I hope I get back there one day so I can see it. Thanks for the info!
what a cliffhanger. hope everyone is ok.
Thanks, no worries we're all good, it was just a bit scary for awhile there!
Amazing video! What's your system for aerobar on the flat bar ?
Thanks, I just use Profile Design Sonic Ergo 35a clip-on aerobars, they work really well :)
@@tristanrid Awesome thanks
Please honour Iohan Gueorguiev on this journey. He also did Alaska to Patagonia before tragically taking his own life. R.I.P.
Thank you, yeah I was gutted when I heard about his death :(
Would be nice to hear you mention him along the way some how@@tristanrid
@@oliverjackson5070 he dedicated EP1 to him
When is the next Canada trip video?
Not sure on that one, there are lot of other videos that I'll be making first but it'll get there eventually!
When the next video coming out cheers
Sorry for the late reply, the next one is out now and I'll be working on Ep.4 next month :)
❤ Super tour,... me unfortunately too cold sorry .greetings from Tunisia 1400km donate - bike - tour for school children 18 days by bike😊
Thanks, definitely a bit cold higher up but we were actually surprised by how warm Alaska was in the summer!
I'd be interested to know what your Body fat % is before the adventure and after the adventure.
I've never measured but I'm not sure mine changes too much when I'm on tour, although I'm already fairly slim so I don't have much to lose. I do know a few people that have lost a tonne of weight on bike trips though!
Great series! Looking forward to the next video.
Where were the two japanese guys headed? The mad man brought an E-bike!
They were just riding up to Fairbanks, we didn't see them again after leaving them to ride into Denali but I'm sure they made it. Alaska definitely isn't somewhere I'd generally recommend an e-bike for touring, but they made it work!
