Yesterday we started with a wonderful gray cloudy day that got up to 60°F by noon. Then it rained and the temperature dropped a few degrees. Autumn has definitely arrived in Arizona. Today will be sunny all day with a high in the low 60s. Northern Arizona has already had snow. The forecast shows four more sunny days approaching 80°F before another single gray cloudy day with possible rain. I love the alternating sunny and gray days! ❤️

These are great!! My sister recently moved to a different state to get a fresh start so I've been making her different things for her new place. I'm going to make some hot pads for her and love that I can make these in various sizes and use up my scraps. Whether I use gray scraps or holiday scraps these will make great gifts.
They will make wonderful housewarming gifts. One of those things that we sometimes forget to buy when we move until we need them. Plus, it’s nice to have had made items in the kitchen.

I love the cross hatch quilting at the moment, yours was gorgeous! I've planned to do a pair of bauble shaped pot holders to use over christmas for myself but if they turn out well i could make more for family. My children have a lot of grey decor in their homes so it's a must to use that colour no matter what i make for them haha...xxx
Thank you. I’ve been addicted to diagonal quilt lines and the cross hatching is even better. Ornament shaped potholders or hot pads would be fun for the holidays. My kids houses are very eclectic. Something they picked up over the years of living with me. 😉 I don’t normally follow trends but I do enjoy all of the greys that are so popular right now.
One of my friends uses old towels that have gotten holes in them. She made me two. A double towel kept the heat out. I’ve never used it but thought it to be a good idea, especially if you run short on batting. I use gray thread a lot because it is so neutral. Love your potholders.
Hey Robin I am definitely making some hot pads to practice binding. I’ve never tried to bind anything as I always, you know, put right sides together, then turn it, etc lol. I saw some real pretty gray fabric at Walmart today, it was Waverly brand…it felt like good quality, but then again, I was just at Hobby Lobby buying some Kona lol. Have a great weekend, we’re (in Louisiana) are expecting heavy storms Saturday (Yay! lol)🥰

I made some Hot pads for my brothers. they way too many potholders now... Might PLAY and turn a few hot pads into an insulated table runner since we put everything down the middle of the table. I'm going to PLAY with the funky block for potholders for us. Like the idea of 4 pieces of batting. :) Wasn't sure if you said PLAY or PRAY (LOL)... but I PRAY the table runner comes out Cool. I use the same stitch length that I sew my quilt blocks together with. For me that’s a 2.0. When sewing my binding down the first time. Sometimes if I feel like I’m sewing through something that’s a bit thick I’ll bump It up to 2.6. When I flip my binding and top stitch by machine I usually go with a 2.4 or 2.6 stitch length. Those in the know say the thicker the product the longer the stitch length which of course makes sense. You could make a test piece and see what looks and feels right for you.
Depends on what you mean by quilting thread. You shouldn’t use hand quilting thread in your machine since It usually has a wax coating on the thread to make It easier to pull through the layers of a quilt. Some people like to sew with the thicker quilting threads. If your sewing machine likes the quilting thread you can always make a small project like a coaster and see how It works.
Mainly because it’s easier to hide the QAYG stitching. No burying threads. I’ve made several projects with the backing attached at the beginning It works either way.
The scrappy word of the day is a fun way to show who watches my videos from beginning to end. On the first Wednesday of the month I give away fabric postcards to those who use the scrappy word of the day. It’s also helpful for those who wish to leave a comment but aren’t sure what they want to say. Some subscribers like to guess what the scrappy word is before I say It. I usually choose a word that relates to something I’ve shown or talked about in that video.
Because it’s on the inside where nobody will see It. The auto cutter on my machine leaves small tails that don’t bother me when they are inside an item. Of course you can trim all thread tails if you prefer.
You don't want to sew through all layers of hotpads or potholders because they will be hotspots. So don't use quilt as you go. Also be sure to use insulating padding.
But if I sew the top and batting together. Then sew the backing and batting together. Then use the binding to hold both sides together it won’t be through all layers. That should help avoid a hot spot. I’ve made several without the insulbright and they’ve work fine. There are other types of material that work in potholders.
I understand but that’s the style of this channel. As if a group of friends were sitting around the table chatting and sewing. There’s numerous channels that just show the project and many do not speak at all. This channel is more chatty which allows me to give tips, tricks, and other ideas than the main project idea.
