Mostly, I don't notice the background when he sings. I'm glued to his face, his arms, and his movements. He just takes over. The stage is not important, in his case. Thank you for being back with Dimash.

It's funny, when Dimash is on stage, I barely notice the background and when I do, belatedly, it usually enhances his performance and doesn't distract. There seems to be a lot of thought and artistry put into the staging around his performances, top notch stuff.

Greetings from Hungary! It's nice to see Dimash's reaction again. I always pay great attention to your professional but kind analysis. I'm not disappointed now. It's a very recent song, and the audience could only be present at this premiere concert in a mask and a certain distance, in limited numbers, and since then a video clip of the song has been made.
Life is spinning around Dimash to our delight. On January 16, he will hold an online concert (details can be found on his official channel) and on the 17th at the inavitation ceremony of the new President of the United States, he will represent his country at the invitation of the President's Cabinet.. we don't even know much about the details of this, we're very excited

I really enjoyed your analysis to Dimash’s singing I Miss You and his performances. I love it!! I also first felt this song was to short but as I heard him sing it again, I just wanted to hear more. I guess what I’m trying to say is I want to hear more and it’s never enough for me. I’ve now listened to this song, well let’s just say I lost count! I’ve fallen in love with this song!!!!! People do struggle with Igor's stage 'straight face', but he's truly 'away' with fierce concentration in the composition and whole production - that he created. Like any conductor, he is tracking EVERY musician, every instrument, every note and space between. The entire dynamic interplay. Occasionally you will even see him conduct some sections, of the background choir for eg; , from his position at the piano, with his head, his eyes, or even a wave of a hand, if no conductor is present. And then, very occasionally, he shocks us with a hugely proud and fond smile breaking out - when he looks at this special prodigy, that he has both mentored and feels privileged to work with. Both are absolute perfectionists in their own way, and both take pride in and are humbled by the others talents, and this collaboration is a beautiful thing to see.
Your explanations of precisely what Dimash is doing with his masterful use of spectacle and contrast, and how this so effectively and thoroughly engages his audience is really clear and useful. It's enormous fun to watch first reactions of people such as Rappers or 'Metal Heads' - after they wipe their chins off the floor - wander round dazedly, mumbling things like; "I didn't know I'd like THIS kind of music!" "I've gotta hear MORE!" I believe this is one of DImash's true 'gifts'; to jolt people out of their attachment to narrow genre-specific 'lanes'. It's also, and his stated goal, to bring to a broader audience that music can transcend language and cultural barriers.
As a clinician, and therapist who's studies have included proxemics and trans-cultural non-verbal communications, also as a non-professional singer, with some rep theatre experience, AND coming from a family of classical musicians, I understand and recognise a lot of what Dimash is doing, but your analysis is still fascinating. 😊👍

Dimash always manages to keep it fresh, never boring. Love his voice and his performance skills. I was not a fan of the screen. The stage was beautiful behind him, bright lights on a dark background, very romantic, very fitting, like stars in a sky. Then right in the middle of all that, there is a big screen with this bubble gum, princessy pink fluffy cloud stuff. It seems too juvenile for the mood of the song to me. Granted I don't understand the words so maybe they fit better than I realize. But the feeling of the song to me is much more grown up and mature to me than fluffy pink clouds, more like "I miss you at night" 🤭🤷♀️IMHO.

Later in March 2020 friends in the group did the last one. I hope all Dimash music lovers can attend his live performances. Very intelligent analysis and reaction to Dimash’s singing. As far as Igor Krutoy’s visage while performing, I’d like to believe he is immersing himself in the music. Anyone who comes out of retirement because they were inspired by Dimash’s voice strikes me as someone who would feel the music. Considering the lyrics, it made sense musically to end quietly with the suspended “I miss you”... very appropriate.
Dimash & Igor have such a wonderful relationship on & off stage...they understand each other's eccentricities/quirks but are still able to complement each other which results in these amazing collaborations...
as for your question regarding the backdrop, for me it works...why?..because this is a song about missing something or someone...the background of the vastness of space emphasizes that...

The answer to why Dimash left us with as you said “a question mark” or without, again your quote, “big bang” is in lyrics, the lyrics are leaving Dimash with no ending, because it says in the last sentence of the song - “ I am still waiting for you at our meeting point; on a sunset shore…” So there is no closure in this song, that’s why Dimash left it without a big closure, because he is still waiting for his lover on a sunset shore. Lyrics are soooooo beautiful, they are written by another great maestro, composer and a poet Igor Nikolaev. Oh, I am so fortunate to understand what Dimash is singing!
Hello Dr. Mark, most of the time I do not notice the background when Dimash is signing. But yes, there are beautiful stages and very colorful like this one. It complements Dimash performance 👍👍👍

Always enjoy your comments. This is a love song of him missing a love he met by chance it seems but doesn't know where she is. He can't move on or forward from it. I have to admit I prefer the screen he used in the first live to this. The silhouette of a lady on the shore. It suited the lyrics and the feel of the song more. The MV is amazing. My only wish is they added the subtitles to it he usually does. Especially because as always with Maestro Krutoy’s involvement it is wonderful both lyrically and musically. Having watched interviews and seen bits of him working with Dimash and such. I would say he is absorbed into the music.

I think Dimash is all about the music in that he takes part in all arrangements, backdrops, meetings, rehearsals and working as a team. He has never considered himself to be a one man show. He shows this in the respect he shows Igor Krutoy, he always acknowledges the orchestra and of course his fans. He bowed to Andrea Bocelli and called him maestro. He was thrilled to sing with Lara Fabian. I notice that he never over sings when performing with others, but shares the stage and often steps back for others to be acknowledged by the audience. It’s important that his parents and his country is proud of him. He respects and loves his fans. Only one I know of that can walk thru an airport and chat with fans, he can reach into an audience unafraid that he will be pulled in. He spends time with fans from other countries that come to his concerts. When his plane was late and it was bitterly cold, he brought the fans from the airport to his home to serve them tea and warm up. He was so touched that they waited in the cold for him. He loves to entertain and we all think he’s perfect. Still he rehearses every day, continues singing lessons and has his vocal coach listen to every performance and offer where he can improve. I know he holds this coach in the highest esteem. So what does Dimash think about when he’s singing? Creating a performance worthy of his team, Igor K, the orchestra, his beloved fans, his parents and his country.
Hello ! Happy New Year ! Your comments are always very interesting and informative. At first, this song seemed to me too primitive and not worthy of Dimash's level. But then when I heard that they listen to it everywhere in Russia, I realized that Igor Krutoy, as an experienced producer, specially wrote a song with words that are easy to hum and remember. By doing this, he expanded Dimash's audience and drew the attention of a large number of people to his work. By the way, Dimash was invited to sing in the United States at the opening of the President's inauguration week.
I don't find the background distracting when it's Dimash because I can't help but focus on him. The end where he's talking is so seductive. Thanks for the analysis. Cheers!

It’s always a pleasure and interesting to hear what you think about it. Well I guess Igor is simply proud when he sees Dimash perform. In other performances it’s more obvious and his facial expression is like of a proud father. Talking about the stage settings in the background... to be honest I don’t take notice of it too much I’m glued to Dimash. He doesn’t need any stage settings at all he himself is enough to tell the story and convey the emotions. It would be great if you review Qaragym-ai (it’s his purest performance just a piano and him) and Qairan Elim it’s a MV (i know you prefer live performances) but it’s worth to review it. It’s a masterpiece full of symbolism.
Love to see you back ;) I liked the first performance some 2w before this one, or the MV better, as for the ambience and stage.

Igor Krutoy is an exceptionally multitalented guy. He composes, he plays piano concerts, he does comedy/acting sketches, he sings, he produces, he judges on music shows similar to The Voice, he mentors. Check out some of his singing or piano videos. I only wish he had some English subtitles. Dimash has done some comedy with Krutoy. It always looks like Dimash is about to bust out laughing. Igor and Dimash have an extremely close working relationship. BT,W, Igor is a billionaire several times over. You may also notice when Igor and Dimash perform in Russia, Igor is always announced before Dimash. I believe Igor’s mind is always on the current performance, no matter how it may seem. He did crack a smile while at the piano when Dimash and Lara Fabian sang together at his 65th birthday celebration at the Moscow Ice Palace. So proud of his two “children.”

Great reaction, I always find interesting your comments and tips. Dimash has the power to keep audience pointing at his face and movements most of the time so that the background is secondary. I think maestro Igor Krutoy after hearing many singers performing his songs during his career, he should think Dimash is quite unique. In fact he said " I should not say this in camera but Dimash only one in my lifetime"

You expressed my thoughts so well. First time I heard this song, I was like "What? Wait, no... it's done? I thought he was going somewhere..." LOL But yes, that really made the song so cool, and it's very befitting for the song "I Miss You". That ending really conveyed the unresolved longing for someone you wish you can see again (which in the song seems like he won't ever see her again. It's actually such a tragic song, in my opinion, the lyrics are quite sad)
I prefer the background from the premiere of this song, the one with red lightings. This one for me was just too much and doesn't feel cohesive with the song. But it doesn't take away from the amazing music, of course, just wished there were fewer things to distract me.

Hello Dr. Marc, I really miss your reaction to Dimash. (as well Sam's) It is so interesting to see your analysis because you give me a different point of view and a different focus of performance with attention to detail. I really don't look at the background, I only perceive colors and I only feel the blue color, which for me means the touching or smooth part. (except Screaming Idol hits performance, the stage was grandiose)

When Dimash sings, it's hard for me to notice any background because I'm just focussed on his face and body language. I'm just hypnotised by him.
Laugh, what is Igor Krutoy thinking at the piano during a performance. Good question. My impression is that it is a mixture of enjoyment, especially when he performs with Dimash, a lot of seriousness towards the music, I also think he pays a lot of attention to the process, besides the conductor he controls what can be heard when and how. I think he's 100% involved.
It took me two or three times to really enjoy the song. It's very different again, both at the beginning and at the end. I like the performance shown because it is so intimate at the beginning. Somehow that fits in particularly well. Basically I can't put it into words, as I often do, because Dimash with his singing simply takes me away into other spiritual spheres every time, and that includes seeing him. The entire body language, everything speaks to me.
You pronounce Igor Krutoy name correctly, don't worry. As you probably know,this is the newest song,that Igor Krutoy composed for Dimash. Love it!

By drawing attention to how Dimash’s choice of position on stage sets the mood, by explaining how it draws the audience in creating an intimate atmosphere, and by pointing out the effect of lighting and images in the background, my audiovisual experience is greatly heightened. It makes me appreciate Dimash’s genius even more. I watched the premiere of this song and other reactions, but was not attuned to all the details you pointed out. Dimash’s stage presentation is always purposeful, well thought out, and polished. He did complete a Broadway Masterclass before graduating from university.
I would like to know who styled Dimash for this performance? The costume is distracting. Dimash’s outfit should accentuate his tall, slender physique at the same time enhance his handsome facial features. The garb makes him look unnecessarily wide and short because the pants are too short and the top is too loose. Dimash is a dashing man and the ensemble does not positively contribute to the visual presentation and optics.

I think Igor is just in heaven with his star boy! Sometimes this little smile slips. When you see him backstage with Dimash, he's like a child in a candy store.
I only have eyes for Dimash so I did not notice the background----so I did not find it distracting.

I liked the black and white clip and also the black and white premier much better - it has made the song look and sound a bit less popish. Frankly, this is the first song of Dimash I don't like. Despite the once again genius vocal performance (especially his vocalise) the song is so filled with cliches it feels like he was forced to downgrade from true art to appease the masses (although I can see that Dimash has done everything in his power to upgrade it to an acceptable level). So, to your question - no, I don't like the background because for me it only makes it cheaper...

On this particular song and performance i'm on the "distracting background" team... I think that overall, Dimash and his crew pick good ambiance stages and backgrounds for live performances...However, given the reserved and longing nature of this song content and delivery even, the stripped down black and white nature of the music video (for example), or for live performances, a bare stage and spotlight on Dimash & Krutoy would be ideal in my optic...Just my 2 cents...
