There’s some really great stuff in Secret Level. Yea, they’re all too short, but that was the whole point I guess. Warhammer 40k, Armored Core, Exodus, and D&D were excellent. PAC-MAN, Unreal Tournament, Honor of Kings, New World, and Mega Man were all good episodes. It’s definitely worth a watch.
My D&D one was cringes fuck. Zero strongale characters. Multicultural dwarf, female orc, and a steroid riddled femme Paladin. Just terrible. The animation is good but the content is fucking garbage.

Ralph: Game preservation is an absolute good. Devs deserve to have their work recognized and able to be experienced regardless of quality. Also Ralph: Some games deserve to die forever. The devs who worked on them are worthless and they deserve nothing. What an unbelievable hypocrite.
The worst thing about Balatro having an 18+ PEGI rating is that now anyone living in Europe can't purchase the game from the play store without sending a picture of their ID to google. I would've bought again on moble, since I have it on steam already, but I'm just gonna pirate it then. To be clear its just as much google's fault as it is the rating board's lol
Damn there are some fantastically beautiful, whimsical-looking games in the works, and I am all-in for that. I love the art style of Airborne Empire et al.
We need another video game crash like in 1983. "The crash was attributed to several factors, including market saturation in the number of video game consoles and available games, many of which were of poor quality."
Apart from the existence of a lot of shit games, the situation is hardly comparable. Cross platform releases are common, the platforms are mostly in different market segments, and unlike the early 80s it's pretty easy to know if a game is worth buying or not because games media is everywhere.
we're already in an on going crash. That's where all the layoffs are coming from, the covid bubble was the last crutch they had. The """problem""" is just that the market isn't made up entirely of big actors that can drag down the aggregate value of the industry anymore. So rather than the crash radiating outwardly as "nobody is making games anymore" it becomes "indie devs are making more (worthwhile) games than studios". This was also the case in the 80s, but filling the vacuum of production takes a while without internet distribution. It doesn't "look" like a crash because the economic metagame for failing companies is to make it look like they aren't bleeding money, presumably for stock market purposes, Hence the staff downsizing.
And the result of this was Nintendo who had an almost complete monopoly on the US market, including forcing developers to only make games for the NES/SNES for about a decade, until Sega came along and even then, Nintendo refused to do with business with retailers unless they promoted Nintendo products above Sega. They were ruthless. I don't want another crash, thanks.
@SkillUp Actually, the Squad Buster trailer wasn't on the TGA 2023, it was actually during the Summer Game Awards 2024. But it is a very understandable mistake, since that painful trailer came from Geoff's adopted son that is the SGA.

It actually blows my mind that the PEGI board thinks learning how to play poker = gambling addiction. I learned how to play poker in middle school and I’ve still never gambled once in my life. Genuine insanity.
jelly and jam are two different preserved fruit products in the US. jelly is made from fruit juice and jam is made from mashed fruit. there's also preserves that uses whole fruits or atleast unmashed fruit.

PSO2 have a similar card mini game called "Black Nyak" - its literary Black Jack, but you cannot use real money and convert them to in-game currency the casino uses, the Casino in the game has its exclusive currency you can only use in Casino item exchanges and nothing else (which you can only obtain from Daily Tasks, events and playing the Mini games yourself). Still the western release of the game was rated by PEGI from 16+ to 18+ (Adult Only) cause of the Casino Mini games. Mature 17+ with ESRB. So I'm not surprised that Balatro got the same treatment. But yeah - PSO2 was only given PEGI 16+ at first even with the Skimpy and revealing costumes your character can wear. UPDATE: The Casino Mini Games in PSO2 Global Server has been there since 2019, but PEGI only discovered it this year so they forced SEGA to change the ratings.
PSA: Vampire Survivors is also currently free on Epic, and will be going away tomorrow! The base game is only $5 but if you haven't picked it up, now's the time.
Sadly the whole ratings thing with Balatro is consistent on how they do it in PEGI. I recall reading that the main reason why the game corner never came back was because of fights with the rating board over the slot machines and such there.
What i think is funny is the game has a 'Gambling' warning on the Xbox store but actual casino & poker games with mtx are considered 'simulated gambling' in the store

Haha unnecessary fact, but in the USA we have 3 jam-like products that we separate according to amount of fruit pulp. Secret level was an awesome CGI showcase, absolutely recommend to everyone.
It also had a concord episode, that was weird.
They should’ve just made Concord a TV show if they really wanted their narrative story.
Agreed! Based solely on the promo, I thought it was gonna be cringe. But I gave it a chance & I was pleasantly surprised! The Warhammer 40k episode was especially cool
i liked the first 9, the second nine did not impress me.
Lmao so Balatro teaches real poker now? Good luck trying to play a "five of a kind" or a "flush house" in a normal game of poker lol
Nothing to do with video games but the new Superman movie trailer dropping 6 minutes after this video went live just felt right to me.
You are a sheep.
Paused the video after reading your comment to watch. The trailer gave me hope.
The concept of BL4 having a gun called the Hawk 2A is such a funny bullshit thing lmao
lol you spend money everytime you use it. Honestly they should take it out because her rug pull and let her fade into obscurity.
@@Zeroninja-j5c you should get a one time lump sum of cash when it drops, but it spawns some enemies because you scammed them with hawk tuah bitcoin.
Hitman already has a gun called the HWK21
It doesn’t
only if it scams u by using money in addition to your ammo. and the weapon text talks about how its a great investment but you never get anything back
There’s some really great stuff in Secret Level.
They still feel more like trailers for a product than their own story though.
Thanks for delivering the news as always, SkillUp!
Little Timmy: "Mother, I've accidentally spent $14000 on lootboxes in this game for children. I borrowed your credit card, and then lost track of how much money I was spending, because I was too focused on chasing the dopamine high of getting a legendary drop."
Mom: "Aww, it's okay sweetie. But hopefully you'll learn an important lesson about the value of money."
Little Timmy: "Also, I saw a picture of a deck of cards once."
Mom: "(sobbing) Our little boy is a gambling addict. Where did we go wrong?"
Been a pleasure watching these all year long and always look forward to the feel good story in particular. Enjoy your time off and I'll check in in the new year!
every time I see a steel series sponsor,
all I can think of is the time they made bully hunters
It’s a really small thing but I love the fact that Ralph constantly refers to the channel as we rather than “I will not be here to remind you” . Loved seeing Austin get more chance to review things and to see coverage get wider. Good crew
Shillup, if xbox only games are going to PS5 and PC, then what's the damn point of buying an XBOX?
@@josephdixon7229 Gamepass, the controller, superior cloud gaming, one time game purchases shared across systems, and superior backwards compatibility. It’s the most pro consumer console out of the big 3.
Btw they’ll still have exclusives, even Staya Nadella and Matt Booty have stated this. It’s always been “case by case” with these ports.
If you like playing on multiple platforms, I.e. primarily on your console/tv, sometimes switching over to pc, maybe play a little in bed or while on vacation on your phone… Xbox is the only platform where you only have to buy the game 1 time and you can access it and all your progress across all of those platforms.
@@josephdixon7229 Gamepass, better hardware, better cloud gaming, better backwards compatibility, better controller, more options, overall it’s just way more pro consumer than Nintendo and PlayStation can ever be tbh.
On top of that you’ll still get exclusive games, it’s been reiterated time and again that these ports are case by case and that there is no “whole slate” going to PlayStation or Nintendo.
Merry Christmas & Happy holidays Ralph & team, and everyone else!
love to check in on you dude, see how the channel is doing. Started watching with Division 1. And you content ia still AMAZING!!! Well done. You deserve all the success you have had.
No brainrot humour in BL4 is an absolute blessing. "The Big Succ" fucking years after it was funny was absolutely painful. Memes come and go in a matter of weeks, you cannot put them in a video game that takes 5 years to make without shredding your game's approach to humour. I'll be so happy if we can get decent writing in a BL game this time
Happy holidays, Ralph. Thank you for the videos, I tune in every week. Keep it up and I look forward to watching next year!
Funny how Xbox kept saying Nintendo needed to stop selling hardware and be a publisher and now Xbox can’t sell hardware and obviously needs to get out of the publishing business.
Secret level is awesome. The 3 I’ve seen were short, sweet, beautifully animated, and very fun. The space Marine 2 episode is breathtaking.
Thanks for the coverage as always 👊🏿
Thank you Ralph for the weekly gaming videos. It's always a pleasure!
The real Xbox was the friends we made along the way 😭
HOLY SHIT! HEROES WAS MENTIONED ❤ ( 4:50 )
Love your show shillup! Hope you have a good new year!
I was playing Facebook poker when I was 12 years old and not once have I gambled real money at a casino or online (unless you count MTX).
Have a good Christmas, SkillUp!
I'm not a fan of companies; I'm a fan of my wallet and Microsoft is currently doing the least amount of damage.
I thought that was Gregg Wallace on the thumbnail 💀
Never liked greg, glad hes being replaced with a snowplough
@ don’t forget the extra ‘g’. He hates that and won’t retweet you if you miss it (look it up)
I look forward to this series every week. Keep up the good work!
Salutations from a fellow italian (but born in Switzerland, I guess we are everywhere in the world... 🇮🇹). My favorite gaming channel, I can't wait to follow you next year. Merry Christmas and all the best 🎉 Ciao
Secret Level is awesome! Don’t let those reviews convince you before you’ve seen it. Some of the episodes are short, but they have really excellent and dense non-verbal storytelling. I’m so happy that it’s getting a season 2.
I'm gonna miss listening to your presentation of gaming news and puns, happy holidays and thank you :')
Thanks for a years worth of this week in Videogames :)
Your alliterations absolutely astounded and amused me. Amazing!
For what it's worth, and while there is alliteration with the "m" sounds after, the "e" sounds before it at 1:34 is actually assonance.
Happy holidays and have a great break. Thank you for a This Year in Videogames, SkillUp Team!
Thank you for a wonderful year of TWIVs, Reviews, Previews, and jolly good times. Hope you all enjoy this lovely break, have yourself a merry christmas, and experience a happy new year!
Ralph: Game preservation is an absolute good. Devs deserve to have their work recognized and able to be experienced regardless of quality.
Also Ralph: Some games deserve to die forever. The devs who worked on them are worthless and they deserve nothing.
What an unbelievable hypocrite.
He forgot to add in the Black Myth Wukong director throwing a pitiful tantrum over losing GOTY to Astro Bot lol
Happy holidays skill up!
Thanks SkillUp, another great video to take us into the party weeks!
Amazing as usual, Sir! Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to you and yours! Thank you for everything you do!
Agreed, I feel like we’re a little overdue for one creatively, but fiscally I don’t know if it can happen anymore?
we're already in an on going crash.
I don't want another crash, thanks.
it was a flood of japanese and north american entertainment systems, as well as ET
@SkillUp Actually, the Squad Buster trailer wasn't on the TGA 2023, it was actually during the Summer Game Awards 2024. But it is a very understandable mistake, since that painful trailer came from Geoff's adopted son that is the SGA.
Did Sony just become the majority shareholder in Kadokawa right after Ralph dropped this video? They taking a page outta Philip Spencer’s press release scheduling tactics lol.
Just want to say, we all appreciate you Ralph for you ant the teams dedication and steady uploads and news drops. Can't wait to see y'all in 2025nn
you know they do this for money right
they literally HAVE to do this to eat dinner and pay rent. they would not be doing this if they didnt get a sponsorship every single video.
Thanks for all the fantastic content! Skill Up made 2024 easier to bear.
Thanks for the news Ralph. Hope you have an awesome Christmas and New Year and make sure you manage to get some rest.....
It's already looking like 2025 isn't going to be slowing down with releases for you to give us your recommendations on.
Peace and love to all x
Merry Christmas everyone
Favourite time of the week!

i got you fam
👏👏👏 well done! Another banger year in the books from your team. Thanks for all of you and your teams work.
A fucking HERO reference Skill Up?! My fucking dood. 10/10 my brother Cheers.
Thank u SU.... Merry Xmas to ALL!
Jam and Jelly and Jell-O are 3 different things. Jam uses whole fruit while jelly uses just the juice. Jell-O is a brand name
Okay felt compelled to clear up a comment from Skillup here in America....Jelly is made with fruit juice and Jam is made with juice and fruit pulp and Jello is sometimes made with either fruit juice pulp or both but is combined with gelatin powder and is a completely different texture and viscosity ok I'm done great news feed vid as always
Capcom just continues to be fucking awesome. The greatest.
Being an xbox fan means reminiscing of the 360 days
As a Brit I concur with your peanut butter and jam analogy.
I appreciate your alliteration
I will forever refer to the Game Awards as "the Geoffies" going forward
PSA: Vampire Survivors is also currently free on Epic, and will be going away tomorrow! The base game is only $5 but if you haven't picked it up, now's the time.
Sadly the whole ratings thing with Balatro is consistent on how they do it in PEGI. I recall reading that the main reason why the game corner never came back was because of fights with the rating board over the slot machines and such there.
What i think is funny is the game has a 'Gambling' warning on the Xbox store but actual casino & poker games with mtx are considered 'simulated gambling' in the store
@SkillUp Started watching your videos a few months ago. Love what you do mate. You do an awesome job. Just wanted to ask, you were half of the laymen gaming videos no? If that’s okay to ask. Have a good holiday!
Skillup defending the idea of the borderlands hawk tuah gun saying its a good idea just earned him negative 100 respect points from me
Haha unnecessary fact, but in the USA we have 3 jam-like products that we separate according to amount of fruit pulp. Preserves have essentially no filtration it is just mashed up whole fruits, jam with some filtration and no whole fruits, and lastly jelly which has zero pulp and is usually transparent.
30:40 I have never yanked my headphones from my head so quickly. I still haven't lost, tho.
