The pickaxe is kind abad now in terms of defensive capabilities, they should bring back the shove with a stamina bar so that its still balanced like the axe

Also there is a legendary sapper playstyle where the user has mastered all playstyles. The legendary sapper will start playing like a turtle, preparing defenses, but when the horde starts pushing they turn to a battle sapper playstyle, using caltrops to evade the zombies and to set up new defenses. Most prominently seen happening on the Vardohus dock, Catacombes holdout phase, and San Sebastian.
it's been buffed back up to usable status and ngl it's really fun :D
sure you lose stakes and shoves but in exchange you can clear out an entire group of zombies with one swing if you charge it and it feels SO GOOD

Honestly pickaxe is much better now instead of being an axe reskin with minor stat changes, also it's insanely good in Vardø since you don't even need stakes there AND you get better damage and the charge ability

My friend who's building: Hey it's not like I'm just standing there doing the Macarena.
Being a sapper is like a toxic relationship to me. I hate playing sapper, mostly because my teammates barely help me when I need help and then the entire server helps me when I can easily solo a horde. And then, since my team doesn't help me when I need help, I often die because I frontline. And then, my entire team starts to collapse and we lose. I'm pretty much the back bone of the team if I'm the only sapper on the team. And yet, I always return to playing sapper.

I swear every single time I play San Sebastion as sapper my entire teams sits back on the final as I try my hardest to defend my builds alone and then the same people say how terrible of a team everyone is except for them.
Sapper is only meant for the strongest of minds
Despite maining Line Infantry, I find myself playing Sapper more then my main because nobody in the server is playing Sapper or the people who are playing Sapper suck so I have to play Sapper to carry. It's not much, but it's honest work.

I am a turtle sapper. One time in Copenhagen, I took too long to load in and the entire team had went. A giant horde was just upstairs from spawn, so what did i do? I set up the best traps of all to where it looked like Home Alone. 2 sets of caltrops. 4 spike sets. A wall. A cannon. An axe. They were NOT about to get me. I lasted so long that i got kicked off. Good times.

As a (hopefully not) retiring sapper main, I've reached that type of mastery where the repetition of pressing 1, clicking, pressing 2, clicking, and pressing f has become my 6th sense

I was the ONLY sapper in Copenhagen once and during the barrel pushing bit, i was building fortifications so the rest could have an easier time killing zombies then a pikeman meleed a barrel b4 I could back away.
I died and the pikeman lived.
The same thing happened again when I was at the part before the bridge jumping.
I have to keep playing sapper since everyone else wouldn't switch over

There is a type of sapper called shoveler:-can entench barricade
-barricade and stake are
mainly used
-often dying while building
-will attack when someone need help
-continuesly repairing the building and alerting

I've been a Sapper because most of my teammates died a lot and there are no sappers so I'll be the only one sapper every game
I’m kind of a battle sapper and a turtle sapper sometimes But now I’m just a battle sapper because I was only a turtle sapper when I was trying to get old guard

With the new Spade, I can become the upgrading sapper, beefing up ally buildings and letting them build buildings closer together helps a LOT on smaller holds where space matters, and of course on endless for the bomber hordes.
With the combo of health and resistances, nothing is getting through the wall.

I alternate between Line Infantry (because I have the carbine and heavy sabre as well as grenades [able to be equipped in all classes including Sapper], soon the Horse Artillery Pistol) and Sapper (I have the pickaxe). It’s much easier as sapper if you know the hitbox of your weapon and the zombies you’re hitting and Line Infantry is really easy because the carbine’s shove has a smaller cooldown. I can say that being the sapper (especially on your own) is hard, almost like babysitting when it’s a quick-pace game, but it’s easy when you’re defending narrow alleys for extended periods of time (like the barn in Hougoumont and the tower in Kaub, and if your team knows defense, they can’t even get past the first turn on the stairs).
Most of the time, though, you’re just dealing with more zombies that are disguised as your teammates.
Fun fact: The devs embellish weapon stats to make the game harder. For example, the pickaxe’s penetration is not 1 but ~3. Also, the Horse Artillery Pistol’s accuracy is the same in both barrels, comparable to the Carbine. Also, reload times may be “rigged” and either shorter or longer than shown in the shop. This also applies to swing rates and hit damage.
Fun fact 2: You can jump across the bridge in Copenhagen with the recoil of the Nock Gun (fully loaded). You have to die a few times trying, it’s not a guaranteed “it’ll-happen-every-time” thing.
*Anyway, the type of sapper I am is the “deceptive” I guess you could call it that) sapper, where I just spam stuff in random areas far away from each other to exploit the pathfinding and distribute the zombies more evenly so that the other classes can kill them easier. I am also a “conservative” sapper in many objective maps where I build minimally and go on more of a defensive approach. I also exploit shoving to juke zombies and kill them to save my builds. I also repair them and destroy them when necessary.*

as a sapper main i can confirm that we are parents to the team, during the 2024 halloween event i not more just myself carried the team of seaman mains to beat the horseman after like 7 tries and all of us being SLAUGHTERED by the horseman

I've thought of a playstyle after being too annoyed at constantly building and rebuilding(I have gen alpha syndrome). That is to only help teammates' buildings so that they don't have to watch Subway Surfers while building! And also Copenhagen's start and only near the safe areas during holdout areas.
I’ve played every class for a extensive amount of time (except officer) and dapper was probably the most powerful I’ve ever felt in G&B.

Sapper main here take it from me playing sapper isn’t fun you might think it is but it’s definitely not and my playing of sapper is only fueled by 1 thing: Winning. If you wanna have fun play line infantry. If you wanna be the turning point of your team play officer/chaplain if you wanna kill a whole lot of zombies in 1 shot play seaman. If you wanna be in the back lines chilling while still supporting your team play surgeon/chaplain. And if you wanna suffer play sapper.

It was so hard... It was very intense, I basically had 0 time to rest...
But it was cool. I never yelled at sappers if they did their job, but since then I respect sappers even more... Those who do their job ofc, if they do nothing but yap or trash talk I'll roast them both sides till "congratulations" 😂

Im a sapper main, and one thing is that alot of people use sapper only for its axe/pickaxe because of its damage, and dont place any buildings. On the other hand, other people only build and do not regard the well being of their teammates, like not helping when grabbed.

And deal decent damage like sabre, and entrenching making defense better than ever. Even though is not useable in non dirt lands, it’s still great. If I am verify by the type of sapper. I am a turtle sapper. Cuz as you see I use spade lol
If I was to compare every sapper weapon to engineers weapons The stock axe would ofc be The Stock Shotgun good damage semi decent range the shovel would either be The Wrangler or Rescue Ranger as it allows you to keep buildings up longer and create a solid backline and the pickaxe would be The Frontier Justice with amazing damage semi decent range but you do lose a bit of defence as you can't build stakes and the delicious leg would be The Pomson bad damage semi decent range and I mean it's bad but it shouldnt stop you from trying
1:05 to 1:15 as a pro sapper use shove against small or huddled up hordes then hit em, it will improve your skills as sapper and carry your newbie teammates

The closest I am to those sub classes is the turtle but instead of only attacking when needed after I build fortifications I rush to the front lines just get killed by runners

Sapper is a mix between heavy and engie since the zapper is the tankiest and sapper has the armor and is basicly the defensive tank class like heavy. Heavy can also be seaman depending how you look at it.

Easy way to describe how it feels: Hit bad guys with axe pick axe or shovel then build.
For a defensive sapper, deli isnt the best. Its the axe, because of its shove ability, you can free people from grabs, and maybe support your team with stuns. Tbh spade is way better tham both if youre a backliner sapper.
