I think population stagnation and decline will come faster and sooner. War, climate change and inflation will make it very difficult for people with large families to survive.
I remember being a teen in 1980 with a world population of 4.3 billion not 8 billion like today. The planet and environment preferes 4.3 billion any time.
Not necessarily true. There is plenty of food in the world. Just think of how much the west is wasting for the sake of profit. Food isn't an issue if it's distributed well. While there is a war in Ukraine going on, we are still living in the most peaceful time ever. Inflation monetary wise is only a temporary issue should there be a crisis. Diplomacy is at an all time high as well so there are good odds for resolving them. At the same time technology is constantly improved. Climate change however is a real threat to global food production and living conditions.

@@Abcflc I don't know where you're getting this from. A good motivator for better distribution is increased food prices which would rise if food becomes more scarce. Higher prices means wasting is less viable and gets more attention while exports becomes more profitable. Another thing that's possible is to eat less meat. Producing meat is inefficient so we could have a lot more if we ate less of it.

This data is quite questionable. China, for example, is going to lose people in 2022, for the first time in recent history. Many nations have departed downwards from old UN projections in the last decade, and I don't think your data reflects that.
Agreed, the fertility rate in the 'developing world' has gone down much faster than previously projected. Prime examples are China peaking in population this year and countries such as Mexico, the Philippines, India, and Iran already having a fertility rate below 2.1.

I don’t know why African population growth is borders non Africans. The UN is known to be very inaccurate with their data, and even if the data is right I don’t know why you people are bordered. Nigeria’s population stats is very unreliable. If you leave the business areas like Lagos, and move inland into Nigeria , you will hardly see people. Lagos and kano are the ones with high population because of business. Majority of the remaining states are very underpopulated. Nigeria have always had problems with it population census. There are accusations of corruption (Inflated population counts by states and local governments) to get more resources allocated to their states. All the population census before Nigeria independence have always had problems. Nigeria haven’t had a census since 2006 when the population was about 140 million, but because of the unreliable data the numbers have been inflated to over 200 million. Nigeria will have a peak at 400 million at best. There are also ignorant comments about famine. Nigeria is the largest food producer in Africa. 7th agricultural production in the world. 10th largest arable land in the world. Nigeria only use a small percentage of it arable land for farming. Nigeria doesn’t import food products that much. The government closed all the land borders because of local businesses and farmers so that they can increase their productivity and banned many food items from importation. Nigeria have been battling BOKO haram for about a decade, and now that some peace is returning the government is closing refugee camps and sending farmers back to their lands. I know many people don’t focus on African countries unless it negative media but that doesn’t mean Africa isn’t growing.
This info is interesting, but it can’t take into consideration the likely fabrication of numbers in countries like China, nor what decreasing food security might do to poorer countries like those in subsaharan Africa. Further, I do wonder how birth rates will change as people panic over decreasing populations, but that is even more speculative.
Panicking over decreaseing population doesnt lead to people finding love, and of all people I know who have children never have they sighted national interest as the reason for having them.

I believe that 70 to 80% of pregnancies in sub-Saharan Africa are unwanted and planned pregnancies, the UN needs to throw tons of abortion pills there, and anticipate the male contraceptive with 99.9% effectiveness.
I appreciate your presentations! My focus has been on feeding the world 50 years in the future, and I have made many presentations worldwide, but not on TH-cam. My major concern with Africa is the relatively slow improvement in agricultural productivity. I say the problem is "culture", not "agricculture". There are many simple steps that farmers and countries could take to improve productivity, but changing traditions in producing food has been slow. One comparison that I use is to ask how many dairy cows it takes to produce 100 liters of milk in 1 day. In the USA it takes 3.5 cows to produce 100 liters in 1 day, but in Tanzania, it takes 176 cows to produce 100 liters in 1 day. GHG output per liter in Tanzania is 7-fold greater than in the USA.
It's scary to think that in the future successful countries will go downhill by population but the unsuccessful countries in Africa will suffer more with a lot of people the successful countries cannot help because the population will go downhill.
Industrialized countries have been going down because for the moment that's the result of the demographic transition everywhere. Meaning that Africa's population can be kept to lower levels precicely by making them more ''successful''. I do wonder what will do in, say, 200 years. Assuming we manage to deal with the climate crisis, the human specie will find itself in a world where the birth rate is below the replacement level. Many developped states today are already offering huge financial help for couples that decide to have children, with relatively little success. Would be interesting to know what their solution for this problem would be, but sadly no one here will be able to see it.

The projections over the past 10 years were surprisingly wrong. E.g. Germany was supposed to peak a few years ago, but with a total refugee influx of almost 2 million in the past 7 years this was not the case. Also the fertility rate is increased and are itself difficult to project as people become parents later in life. It is extremely difficult to project even over 1-2 decades so it will be off quite a lot by 2100. the general tendency that effectively all of the growth will happen in Africa will certainly be true.

I find it difficult to believe that Africa’s population will continue to grow as the majority of nations facing food insecurity and outright famine are located in Africa. Even if world agriculture stays efficient enough and able to share surpluses in the face of serious global warming and consequent drought, I again find it difficult to see how assuagement is available with the problems many African nations face with governance and corruption, both of which are rampant.

A declining population is not a good thing, and I think 'stagnating' is used because it has a negative connotation, because if more and more old people are sucking up capital in an economy, that means fewer and fewer young people have the money to take care of themselves because all of it goes to pay for elderly pensions. Demographics like that are asking for a societal breakdown or riot, and we're already starting to see it.

I believe that China will receive millions of immigrants in the future especially when China's currency is more powerful and the GDP surpasses the US/America, I see many sub-Saharan Africans in the Middle East and Asia in the not so distant future.
Given the high urbanization and terrible air quality of China -- in addition to high rates of smoking, I'm thinking that lung cancer cases will begin to really spike in China in about 10 years - thus contributing to population decline.
I’m really skeptical about Nigeria reaching 700 millions inhabitants. Considering the African nations are developing quite fast, although inequally, I do believe those will be developed secure nations by the end of the twenty-first century, and they will be able to house, employ and care for all those people.
More than anything I think current Africa is similar to 1940s-1970s Asia. So as birth rates fall, development will begin and they might reach huge economies by the end of the century, but again, it’s all hopes. Also, some models suggest some countries that have suffered over 30+ years of population decline will eventually see an uptick of fertility in the mid-century. Past example of this was the US, birth rate in the 70s was as low as it is today at 1.7, but through the mid-80s it started kicking back up again, it would rise all the way to 2.1 in 2007, it actually surpassed 1957 as the year with most births in US history. Post-2008 birth rates fell again, but still, that recovery in fertility and obviously migration has been the reason the US population still grows far faster than the average developed country. In the future, I believe that Europe will eventually flatline or kick back up, as well as places in Asia. Perhaps by 2080 the new focus will be Latin America, it’s already the slowest-growing population of any developing region, Brazil and Mexico will already enter decline in the 2050s, although studies showed that Mexico will continue the trend of the US and Canada and will start to attract more migrants, while there has been a steady influx of Mexican migrants who have started to return to the country. But still, if it all holds up I believe that by 2080 Latin America will be the new region in fast decline, as I said, most countries in the region are already starting to age. Back in the 70s the region’s average age was around 16-17, nowadays in some countries like mexico it is about to surpass the 30-year threshold. At this point in time, most LatAm countries’s largest cohort are millennials
Nigeria growing to the numbers and rate shown!! Sorry but no. Where is the food going to come from, health infrastructure etc. This is also ignoring climate change impacts. Europe falling yes, China yes, eventually India. The US creeping up. Africa just looks like mad numbers.
This doesn’t account for pronatalist policies. Do you think governments will just watch their nations decline and not do anything about it, they will and in many places are trying to increase birth rates. Some governments will also use immigration as a stop gap solution but of course that has its limits before becoming politically unacceptable.
Your analysis didn't include the widespread influx of illegal immigrants in South Africa, thus currently having plus minus 80 million people in total who are currently residing there
Immigration does not compensate low feritliy, its like thinking you can poor water in your wine glass as you drink from it and you will neve run out of wine.
Low fertility is a advantage . Japan with 70 million would be a better place to live than it current crowded 125 million. The US in 1960 with 200 million was a great place to live. If the US had 1 billion people rather than 330 million it would be a polluted mess in every way.

In my opinion the developpement of the african countries will arrive sooner. In the actuality the progress of the humanity is enormous, we're developping so much technology that will impact our lives so much that in only 1 generation we will be able to pass from poverty to medium world class. Im spanish, our country was very pour, like today's Moroco in the 1970's. My grandparents lived a civil war, they lived in famine and dictatorship. They worked very hard and finally got wealthier. My parents could go to university and now they work on high skill jobs. This histoy is not only works for my family but for the all country. Today countries developped themselves in 15 years. The only thing that must concern africans is the space for all the people. I'm spanish, the history of my country is resumed to wars, invasions and empires, I know that when Africa will get richer, more ambitions will come and the study of their past will start. First they will start with their recent history and with the declarations of independence. They will start questioning if it was fair and if they should continue to accept the conditions, as for example, to not consider the redrawning of the borders based on etnical similarities. With a developped army and economy, the wars are guaranteed.
The best way is legal sterilization from the age of 12 for boys and girls especially in sub-Saharan Africa, even with contraceptive methods of pills and condoms, it will not reduce the growth of poor countries.

This doesn’t account for pronatalist policies. Do you think governments will just watch their nations decline and not do anything about it, they will and in many places are trying to increase birth rates. Some governments will also use immigration as a stop gap solution but of course that has its limits before becoming politically unacceptable.
I'm so happy to see my country predicted to have only 45 million people cause no way it is substainable for us to be higher than that.
What about central and south America? Not even mentioned 1 country.

@@Crashed131963 Agreed, fertility rate should be such that the countries population is stable at low population density.
@@kungszigfrids1482 My thinking is .
If a country NEEDS food imports to survive it is considered overpopulated.
Food imports for wider food "variety" is nowhere near the same as food imports for "survival".
@@Crashed131963 Aproximetly.
@@Crashed131963 My thinking is that Japan MIGHT be biting the bullet early, and later on will be one of, if not THE first nation to have rising population once again. This is just a theory but somewhat makes sense.

No explanation how small Nigeria can eat with a population 3 x lager than than North America.

Good video, but I think the colors could be improved. For example, why is West Asia in purple while the rest of Asia is in red? I dont think East, South, and Southeast Asia should all be the same color, especially when trying to make points about their population.
Namibia and Botswana just chilling.
Is there a way to feed that future population???Resources are going to be an issue! what a challenge.
Not really. Resource redistribution will be the issue, as Africa needs lots of resources. I am thinking they won't get it, nor other countries will accept enough immigrants from Africa. I think they will just have famines as usual.
@@baxakk7374 as usual? Who said Africans are struggling? Lmaoo. You guys have been blind folded by the world to think African is struggling. We are already growling enough food to feed ourselves. We are just exporting them unwisely
Thank you so much your video,May be peaceful all World 8.1billion people, animals &birds from Myanmar.❤
Can Nigeria really support a population of 708 Millions?
That sound excessive....
Nigeria can support the sterilization of boys and girls from the age of 12, not for 100% of the population but for 50%.
They can't, so many will leave for countries that are declining.
Nice Video
This won't be taking account to rapid population decline and immigration that is going to occur in future

I think countries where population is stagnating or declining will open borders for others for the sake of labour and support. Which will adversely affect the projected population levels. Although there is an element of A.I and automation support which may make that assumption less valid. My best guess is we will never reach 10 billion because of increase access to internet.

@@sanexpreso2944 Pero es muy triste que para entonces todos estaremos muertos.
It is a very good video, however you are not considering the future border changes of the world. For example, Dr Congo might split into several nations by 2100 because of the conflict and then we wouldn't have that one country with hundreds of millions of people, there might be a few smaller nations with a population of around 100 million people.
Pregnancy prevention is free in southern Africa we have been on 60 million for so many years even London has more population than in a small place education and life style count a lot in having babies 3 is a lot to stop

I told you your channel will boom
Not sure if this guy thinks overpopulation is a good thing or not?
Example ;The US and China are the same land mass but one country needs the resources to maintain 1.4 billion and the other only 330 million.
Who do you think will be in better shape in the long game?
China has more cars on that road than the US has people , that is a mess not progress.
I like population dencity of 30/km2
China's agriculture focuses on rice which produces more calories per acre than what the US and other Western nations mainly rely on, wheat, maize etc. That's how China can sustain such a large population easier on the available land.
He avoids personal opinions, and thats' not a bad trait.

@@tabby73 Im sure there are many tricks to fit 100 people on a 40 seat bus , but that does not mean its a good plan.
Tho Im no fan of them I hope our overlods will do something about this uncontroled population growth in the third world.
Pretty much just subsaharan Africa and a few south Asian countries, the rest of the world is already declining and stabilizing
The best way is legal sterilization from the age of 12 for boys and girls especially in sub-Saharan Africa, even with contraceptive methods of pills and condoms, it will not reduce the growth of poor countries.
I think our "overlords" ,if there are even any, have no clue what they're doing
the 2022 projections (UN) show that the world population will peak at 2086, around 10.4 billion people.
