The same thing happened in China and is still happening in India. Maybe Nigeria also needs a one child policy. It creates a generation who are raised by two incomes in stead of several children by one because the other has to stay home

@@Churros1616 I wouldn’t do the one child policy, that’s gonna lead to boko haram going crazy mad and it’s gonna give their “the west is corrupting us” rhetoric more power, plus Nigerians have a preference for sons like the Chinese did, so it could create a male female disparity. It’s not an easy solution, family planning, secular education, and infrastructure so that it can reach all Nigerians and break the monopoly on radical religious education that a lot of local rural villages have.

Additional context for the apparent overpopulation problem in Nigeria:
The CENSUS numbers are actually very questionable, (ie:inflated).
Local/State governments are actually incentivized to fudge the census numbers and inflate them, so as to get a larger portion of resources from the federal allocation.
In other words, the more people in your locale, the more resources you can claim from the federal government. So there is naturally and incentive to lie.

It’s the same problem facing places like India and the Philippines. On the one hand it’s bad for the country who spent the money and resources educating these people only to have them move elsewhere as soon as they’re educated and at their prime but on the other hand it’s highly beneficial to the destination countries receiving these migrants. The EU keeps a close eye on migration through the Sahara and has focused on its relations with Niger, Mali, and other transit countries. @Jaden Lee-Chin Sounds great. African Union should indeed focus on mutually beneficial trade between African countries and avoid getting into predatory trade deals with Europe and especially China. That said moving these countries forward requires earning hard currency for investment in infrastructure and technology. What doesn’t require much hard currency is investments in education and health. This would go a long way towards addressing the overpopulation problem. Unfortunately Nigeria seems to be a deeply corrupt country where everyone is out for themselves.

@Jaden Lee-Chin I would agree that perhaps the “image” of African nations held by people in the US and Europe might be outdated. Africans have made a lot of progress and I am often impressed when I hear interviews with people in Ghana or Nigeria for example. That said the basic indicators such as literacy, infant mortality, and TFR are not good. There is really no way to sugarcoat those numbers. If anyone is curious the population of each continent by 2100
North America estimate between 500 million to 600 million (global warming will make Canada warmer and more fertile giving much more agricultural land to the county)
The population is expected to be 45% european about 25% Hispanic and about 30% Asian and black but looking at current IR statistics it’s probably not unlikely that about a 1/3 of the Asian/black population will be married to a person of european decent, but there numbers will be 14% of the population for blacks and 16% of the population for Asians (but as stated these racial groups will probably have some admixture of european blood due to marriage)
South America 700 million. It will have the worlds highest median age the population will largely be similar to its current racial makeup of mostly mestizo/european background
Europe (including Russia) 630 million about 85% will be european white and 15% being of Arab/Indian background, however it is important to note that due to global warming Serbia may become further inhabited and with several trillion dollars of natural resources a population spike in Russia is a conceivable possibility, also right wing nationalism is growing which could add or decrease to west Europe’s population trend.
Asia 4.7 billion about a billion of whom will be Arab. China will shrink to about 1 billion and India will become the most populated country in Asia, japan is expected to shrink (just to add I know Arabs are technically Asian but I’m just trying to be distinct)
Africa 4.4 billion (about another billion will be Arab North Africans) Africa will be (in my opinion) the worst off continent, country’s like Egypt which already deal water sacristy will likely double or even triple its current size from 100 million to 400 million.... for comparison the United States is about 10 TIMES the size of Egypt. Overall it would appear the America’s will have a population of about 1.3 billion (which would be less populated than India) and with 2 continents of space for its population will be populated but still will have plenty of space left over while some African countries sill suffer greatly from land and water sacristy... potentially a mad-max situation but with African landscapes instead of Australia
      So overall population structure
      european population= 920 million
      Hispanic= 885 million
I would probably consider Hispanics to be closes to Europeans due to colonialism and 23&me study’s so my personal number
      Whites/Hispanics= 1.8 billion
      Arab= 2 billion
African sub sharan black= 3.3 billion

This is the problem of over population. If a country can't provide the sufficient services and resources needed for their rapidly growing population, it's not just going to cause a strain on local resources such as food and water, infrastructures like housing, and proper services like health, education, and security, but also employment. Like what was mentioned in the video, if people can't find work and turn into desperation, they can be easy targets for recruitment by extremists can cause more internal problems, which can lead to external problems too, like regional disputes and wars, and mass migration to other countries. This then results to political instability and the draining of resources of those countries affected by the mass migration/immigration as well. It's just not a good outcome overall and their governments need to do something about this...but we all know change is probably going to be close to impossible, or will be slow like a glacial pace.

I have read the projections for Nigeria - about 750,000,000 by 2100.
I doubt that will ever happen.
IMO, Nigeria will hit a resource ceiling, which will prevent that many people.
Nigeria won't be rich enough to buy the food necessary.
And it won't be able to feed itself.
I remember in the 1970's, Iran was forecast to have huge population, well over 100M, but that is not happening.
Iran became middle class, and now has a problem of future decline.
I think this will happen to Nigeria. It can be a low cost manufacturer for companies leaving China.
Being on the Atlantic, it has shorter routes to Europe, NA, and SA.
I bet Nigeria never even reaches 400,000,000.

The video hinted at this, by way of mentioning that more children = more status for men, but I wish it had explicitly stated that work needs to be directed at men. Instead the focus continues to be girls, girls, women. By all means, improve education, for boys and girls, so girls can gain some agency of their own. But for now contraception and family planning is the realm of men, and the population growth needs to abate now.

    SUB SAHARAN AFRIKA INTENTIONALLY MISMANAGED:
European imperial democracy has done more harm to Afrika than good (this has established, remotely promoted and maintained corrupt imperial governments/leaders which intentionally mismanage countries) .... "A master cannot rule a rich slave" Therefore, many people have to be maintained poor so that they can keep depending on their masters (Euro-American imperialists and their agents in neocolonial Afrikan governments)

You can say after that the country was mismanaged, NIGERIAN are the one who have mismanaged their own country and now you don't want to take your own responsibility and that's why you fail because nobody I Africa want to take responsibility for the degradation of Africa since these 50s years

The situation is not totally hopeless as there are still time for something to be done to keep the population in check. A multi layered approach needs to be taken where girls are educated even if it means only to the secondary level (research have shown that women who’ve had at least a basic level of education tends to have less children than those with no education at all), the promotion and normalization of women’s reproduction health in society (making it easily accessible and less taboo for women), and finally providing jobs at any level to women so that they have other roles in society and their family aside from giving birth and being a mother. Bangladesh’s birth rate and population was predicted to be out of control decades ago but because they implemented all of the strategies outlined above, they now have a more sustainable population growth and birth rates. I just hope that the leaders of Nigeria acts soon.

Nigerians don't take population growth seriously. It has been raised repeatedly and the best you will get as a response are a few short term ineffective gimmicks.
Controlling population is an unpopular topic. South East Nigeria has some of the worst cases of soil erosion in the world. It hasn't been checked and the population continues to grow rapidly.
It seems Nigeria is determined to sink itself. The outside world will just have to brace itself for the collapse of the country along with the many environmental disasters which seem to be growing and accumulating there.

Even if Nigeria was able to develop its economy and slow down its population boom, there is another problem: resources. The USA consumes 25% of the world's energy and resources. If every person on Earth lived like the average US citizen, we would need 4 Earths' worth of resources. Rich countries are setting a very bad example with over-consumption, and the rest of the world is trying to copy them.
