@@NickPiper Don't apologize for that. People who read comments before watching the video often need to practice more discipline in their lives, lol. I've seen it many a time.
Crazy to see Taipan in a video in 2024. That was one of the first video games I ever worked on. We accidentally aligned the maps incorrectly so sailing around the world is unintentionally confusing...
Crazy to see someone that worked in a 1982 around. Respect for your hard work when things was simple but also really hard and you need to rely more in your creativity and guts than some random AI software that "solve" everything with a couple clicks!
That game borders on legendary, like MULE or Seven Cities of Gold or Oregon Trail. You know, all those computer games that were just educational enough for teachers to let you play them in school.
Thank you for your work, I love the game and play it often! I showed it off in a GBA Hidden Gems vid a while back. And also, screw you for the maps thing, I want my money back.
This might be his best video yet. The humor is 10/10. Unlike all the other videos rambling about non-sequiters and using strange props. This hits it right on the bullseye for me 😆 The device talks back, sounds robotic and sounds witty. I really hope you see this TechDweeb. Try to keep this quality of humor up in your future vids. It had clever writing, and was the most unique kind of humor so far 👍 As always, greay review.
If it has a face, IT MUST TALK. And it must periodically cop an attitude, while also being sweet most of the time. These are the rules of the TechDweeb cinematic universe.
I just got my rg40xx h in the mail the other day and am super hyped and happy. I know it might be similar to many other devices out there, but this is the one that I have and didn't mind having many options when I chose. I like the big 4:3 screen, the stacked shoulder buttons and rounded edges and the loads of custom software that's already out there for it. I understand that reviewing many similar devices might become a drag, but for me as a consumer it allows me to pick exactly what I want :)
It's a personal opinion, but i believe the 40XXH just wasn't the perfect 4:3 $70 handheld cause it hasn't bumps to handle, but still a great (despite small, but not so much) handheld that should attend many of anyone needs in a matter of portable sessions of our old all time favourites. I'm sure you'll enjoy it!
I never saw the face until watching this video, and now I can't unsee it! Somehow this device went from looking like a kinda cool Aliens powerloader sorta thing, to this mildly hideous Frankenstein's monster handheld XD
Appreciate the extra effort you put into this one. Between the A+ writing and making your pow-kiddy talk, I kind of feel bad for the other reviewers. If the dweebs ever leave their mom's basement and form an army, I'm pretty sure they would make you their king.
iv been exploring the world of handhelds recently and came across this channel . planning to get my first retro handheld soon love your content man, keep it up ^^
I dig the style of it and picked one up. This system is needs an led mod to light the window at the bottom. To fix the shutdown problem, remove six screws on the back of the unit and carefully separate the two halves. Unplug the battery for 15 seconds. Then reconnect and screw it back together. Then you should be able to shutdown normally through the menu. Worked for me. Mine also had no sound but there is a Fix sound option in the menu somewhere that fixed that.
This is cute. But they probably should have skipped the PCB window to accommodate a 3.5" screen in Tate/vertical orientation, with the sticks on top, for NDS and vertical arcade. After all, this has been the year of super niche devices based on screen aspect.
@3:11 No idea why, but this reminded me of the old OLD mid 2000s sprite comic, "Farm Boy" where the parents literally name the main character in Harvest Moon, "Farm Boy". And then he becomes a farm boy.
Will the face haunt us in our in our restless dweeb dreams? Btw here is a free advice from the audiophile world: When the headphone out is bad, get a usb dongle DAC. Then you will bypass the internal DAC and headphone amplifier. Even the 10 dollar Apple USB C to 3,5 mm dongle would be great here, Pow Kiddy probably get their savings in the headphone out department.
I love this thing so much! i got the blue one to make a "cyberpunk BMO" I just need to get custom buttons made. I have so many handhelds and I had to get this because its so stylish!!
All of his devices know what his face looks like, but they would never tell because the dark cube in the basement forbids it. It needs a faceless minion.
That little window is enough to almost make me pull the trigger, but I don't think I'd use it more than my og RG35XX right now so I guess I'll wait for another round of processor upgrades before I kick the ole Ambernic to the curb
It's just me or this cyberpunk pal kitty device bottom half looks like if it got designed to be a flip handheld with sticks that end up being a bar handheld with a not movable screen? Abyway... i think it's charming and all, but would be better if it had came with some embedded auto rewindable reel holding some feet of 1,25" wire with something like an coaxial plug in its end to hook on things like retro-futuristic machines and human brains, so it would also work as a portable terminal to jump into the matrix and learn kung-fu in the free time.
Man, I love the design of this! I was going to pick one up UNTILL I saw the TrimUI brick in videos and I fell in love with it. Can’t wait to see your thoughts on that one.
I've already got a system with that processor in it, so I'm good. I need something with the beef to run PS2 and GameCube games, and the RK3566 just doesn't have it.
I am fascinated, but if I were to get another Powkiddy in the near future, it would likely be a V10 for its novelty. But I am just too satisfied with my RG28XX to spend more money on something for the novelty of trying it out.
Great video. If you started in RockNIX and are now having power off issues there is a couple ways to fix it. Easiest of which is just unplugging the battery and draw the power by holding the power button. It will loose the memory from that RockNIX setting and work fine going forward
Theres a 70ies mexican humouristic series called "El Chavo" where one of the characters known as "The Witch From 71" (cause the old ugly and also single lady lived alone in the house number 71) had a cat she called "Satanás" - its spelled "sah-tah-nahs" and is one of the many latin names reffering to the devilfrom christian bible. I believe, in the head of the writer of the show, the pet was called this way cause it was a real demon, since its said to be witch owner sometimes appeared searching for it and blaming it for some mess and noises in her house (as almost all cats in the world), but also for the comedy part, she calling it loud in the yard let the kids from there terryfied; "the witch is summoning the devil again!" Same should be with our dweebledoblefriendo. hehe
I think it looks pretty cool but I think I'm still going to go with Miyu Mini+ and also probably one of those Data Frog SF2000 setups. I Love SNES and it's crazy that I can now play Every SNES and Genesis game with just a snazzy looking SNES controller in my hand. 😄👍
If you use Rocknix, there are some settings you can toggle to get better battery life (and doesn't impact the performance on the older stuff). "Default Scaling Governor: Powersave" and "GPU Performance Profile: Battery Focus" in the system settings.
RGB20 Pro name means: RGB = means it uses RGB pallette (not CMYK) 20 = means how many games recommended to be played per day Pro = means this device was made for those people who play games as their profession (not for fun but for earning money)

Did you by any chance boot Rocknix before testing ArkOS' shutdown? That thing where it isn't possible to shut down a device is a common problem with the RGB30 when you alternate between the two OSes.
I like the design accents, but if they're going with such an unusual case, they should have extended that creativity into added functionality, like a bigger battery or something unique like trackpad.
What boot system do you use? For when selecting Sega, games etc. doesn't seem stock but you have it on everything. I wanna put that on my M Mini and 406v
That's the stock ES theme that comes with Rocknix, and also other batocera based frontends like Knulli. It's called Art Book Next. You can put it on your 406V with ES:DE (you'll need to download the theme from the built-in theme downloader). Your MM won't be able to use that though.
Hmm thanks to its taller body, the RGB20 Pro looks like it's more comfortable to hold than other devices (more room for your fingers behind it). I think maybe using the sticks might be more comfortable too. Some of these devices are pretty short making it an awkward hand position to use the sticks (for ex. It feels awkward to use the sticks on the Retroid Pocket 2S)
SO... guess you solved the mystery, pal! The feline punching devices should use more simple P2 jacks for stereo sound only (two lines in golden end of the male plug) instead of the more recent "P3" ones (still P2, but with 3 lines in the same golden end of male plugs, so we call it "P3"), that were made for left and right audio out as a separate line for audio in!
Now I can't unsee the face.
