Yes, Marko is amazing in "High Hopes" and everything else. My wife hated metal but I got her to watch Nightwish and she loves the band; she thinks Floor is unbelievable, the best female vocalist. When I told her Marko left the band she said straight up: "He's irreplaceable; they'll never find another male singer and musician like him". Too true. Marko spoke about what happened: he had suffered from terrible "chronic depression since 2010" and was on "permanent medications" which "didn't work anymore". Neuropsycholigical testing determined Marko had suffered from a rare form ADHD his entire life. Marko leaving Nightwish is a great loss, but Marko is doing much better, and that's all that really matters in the end. We have all these great masterpieces he created, so we're lucky, and he's now well enough that he's starting recording again, so we should be happy for him.

Marco used to study guitar and later switched to bass guitar. He has a great double neck guitar, bass and guitar in 1 instrument. He uses this occasionally on Nightwish.🤟🏻🤟🏻🎶🎶

    Nice one.
For all my mife, 69 y old Dutch bloke, I am a fan of Pink Floyd and have seen them several times. Since 2020 after seeing Floor at Beste Zangers and one of her first solo shows I also am a big Nighteish/Floor fan. Seen Nightwish november 2022 two nights in a row.
This song is not a cover, this is the ultimate tribute from an exceptional band to an exceptional band!

Nice reaction, thanks for checking it out and giving me another excuse to check out this awesome performance. If you want to check out some even younger Marko, check out his 1st band Tarot which includes his brother on guitar. There is an 80s version with a baby face Marko and another 25 year anniversary video with a 2nd singer as well for their song Wings of Darkness. Both are worth checking out.

LOVE this version of this song. I created a Nightwish fan out of a life-long Pink Floyd fan (from Syd Barrett daze) by playing them this. Marko goes off, Emppu brings a touch of metal in a recognizably Gilmour style and tone...... Tuomas' arrangement!..... Jukka's passion despite insomnia and migraine even back then..... Pink Floyd - melancholy despair and regret - Nightwish - feeling it but NOT giving in! Suited their situation "the ringing of the division bell had begun".... firing Tarja. the guys all sing along at one point or more too!

I was a bass player as a younger man, and picks can help. It gives a different tone than finger style, it can also be easier for some to do triplets and more "marching" sounds with a pick (the most famous exception to this being Iron Maiden's bassist Steve Harris who plays some of the best marching lines ever... all finger style). I think when you're singing and playing and trying to entertain and not just stand there line a stone... picks can help make all of that a bit easier to handle. When you're a pro, like Marco, you use it like any other tool, when it suits you, but I think it's also fun for the crowd as many players toss them to the crowd as a little souvenir- Emmpu is famous for this! He must toss 50 per show out to the crowd!

Marko "Marco" Hietala is an amazing musician (guitar, bass) and singer with an absolutely beautiful voice and range. He retired from Nightwish for mental health reason, and a profound disappointment with the big music business. I'm very glad he has continued in smaller circles and done very good music.

I love this Nightwish's tribute to this Pink Floyd song. This is not a cover, this is tribute. If I didn't know this is Pink Floyd song I would say it is Nightwish song. There is certain signature that Tuomas makes that you instantly know oh okay Nightish. Marko's singing here just beautifu, Emppu's guitar solos and of course Jukka on drums. Suffering from imsomnia and migraine yet still playing so good and with style that always makes me smiling and honoring him 🤘🥁

If you want to see more of Marko on lead vocals with Nightwish you should check out "Kiss while your lips are still red" live at Wembley 2015 and "The Islander" live at Tampere 2015. Just want to add a shout out for my favorite Marko Nightwish song that everyone seems to forget. Endlessness. It was the last song Marko sang lead with Nightwish. From the Human Nature album. Never performed live since Marko left before touring after the pandemic had resumed. Last song on Disc 1 of the album. It's about living life to the fullest and when our time comes, gratefully passing on to the next adventure what ever it may be. Such a perfect ending to Marko's time with Nightwish. I also do love While Your Lips are Still Red live at Wembley. Marko's voice in that one is so vulnerable and emotional. A beautiful song about innocent first/young love. The lyrics are incredibly poetic.

This was an emotion charged performance. It was after this gig that they sacked their original singer, Tarja. I believe this song was chosen specifically for this occasion because of it's message. The rawness of their emotions are on display, and the pain, apprehension, and optimism for the future are palpable throughout this masterful performance. Even David Gilmour said this was his favourite Pink Floyd cover. It gives me chills every time. Cheers from Australia !!

  • @NickBR57
    @NickBR57 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

    Hi Mrs R.
I consider this the ultimate Marco.
This is a high energy version with more emotion and energy than the original.
For many years it was linked in Floyd's website as a great version, and it was praised by Dave himself.
Here's some stuff that you may not know...
This comes from the album "The Division Bell" (yes you knew that).
In the Houses of Parliament, bwhen votes are taken they aren't by electronics or by counting hands in the chamber. Rather, MPs file out into the "division lobby" where they divide into separate lines to go past the tellers who count them (tellers come from both main parties to avoid cheating).
Many MPs are not in the Chamber when a vote is called. They may be in their office working on something; in one of the (many) bars in the buildings or even off the premises altogether.
In order that they can get to the lobby for the vote, a bell is rung throughout the premises to alert them they need to go and vote.
This bell is called "The Division Bell".
Now, outside the Houses, there are many nearby hostelries that are frequented by MPs, for food or drink. Some of these are particularly popular with MPs and have a feed from the House that makes the Division Bell ring in their premises.
Over the Thames almost opposite the Houses there is a small market street called "The Cut" ( you may have caught the lyric and I have always assumed a connection). In The Cut there are quite a few restaurants used by MPs and when I worked in that area I often saw MPs in one or two of them.
I never witnessed it personally but I would lay good money that one or two of those restaurants have a feed of the Division Bell.

I love Jukka! He's so expressive, and a trooper, playing drums like this while having migraine, and insomnia. And Emppu's guitar playing reaches new heights, showing all the doubters what he is capable of, he can shred when he wants to. And Marko, well, what is there to say, other than that he's an amazing bassist/vocalist. I think the Jack Sparrow doll is a little nod to the fact that people think that Tuomas looks a bit like the captain. And I actually get similar vibes from Tuomas and Johnny, both seem like warm and empathic people.

Do people who listen to this , know 1, have listened to the original before this 2. Listened to Floyd 3. know what the lyrics these mean ie "Do they still meet by The Cut " and " in a world of Magnets and Miracles"

@steviesellers I agree that the original is a stunning piece of music. I've never been arguing the fact that this was better than the original. It's done quite differently...a more somber, emotional sound in my opinion... while this is more of a harder rock version. I've never seen the live version from 1994 tho. I'm sure it was an amazing concert!

@steviesellers I didn't say I reacted to them, I said I love them. I react to music I've not heard before. I did the Disturbed, but not the Conan show version. So you only subscribe to channels who react to music that you have listened to or "approve of"? That's a strange pre-requisite.

@@MrsRealistic Dave Gilmore is a nice guy , ive never heard this cover and never will , ive seen this song done twice by Floyd at the Pulse tour in london and Italy LIVE . I was in my 20's and 30's in the 1970's and 1980's. I thought Pink Floyd was a joke back then. Nightwsh tribute dominates the Pink Floyd version by a mile.

    • @MrsRealistic

@steviesellers I understand. People will have their favorites, and certain songs that will hit you hard. But I don't think Dave would bring attention to a "cover" that he didn't approve of. So you didn't actually LISTEN to this Nightwish tribute? I dig Pink Floyd, and many other artists who have had covers done of their songs... some I love, some are ok.

I'm so glad you reacted to this one. Knew you'd like it. Jukka was dealing with a migraine head ache during this show. I can't begin to imagine how he pulled this show off. There are some bands if you're smart you never try to cover - nothing good usually comes from it. Then there's Nightwish blowin' up a Pink Floyd classic. Holy Smokes. everytime I watch this video I sit here in disbelief at what I'm hearing. Since you've found the End of an Era concert, check Tarja doin' Nemo. It's another stunner. Enjoy
