Tuomas, Marco, and Emppu all are phenomenal in this performance, but I was also blown away by Jukka's impeccable drumming - he is just so fantastic here
Jukka in fysical pain, Marco and Tuomas emotionaly and Emppy outperforming himself, all this came together in this beautiful tribute on a that historical night.
This song really is the one that should make Marko included into one of the best singers of all time. Not just the various qualities of his voice he can use but the pure emotion he puts into his singing. Not sure if anyone else noticed this but they have a ring of lights above them that could be (?) a small version of the ring of lights in the Pink Floyd Pulse concert. I’d be interested to find out if it was done on purpose. There are many of you who are far more familiar with Nightwish history than I am. Cheers from British Columbia Brian. 🇨🇦
I once heard a reactor say like " It must be forbidden to have two such good singers in one band". I really liked that quote. It's a pity Marco is gone.
Emppu makes that gorgeous EV-1 sing and that second solo always makes me tear up, even after a hundred+ listens. And I know what you mean: being a Floor-fan and this Floor-less song one of your favorite Nightwish performances 😀
Tuomas' arrangement, Marko's vocals, Jukka's beats, Emppu's solos & even the circular light behind them.... really a Tribute! I made a life-long Pink Floyd fan, from Syd Barrett daze, into a Nightwish fan too with this song. Marko THE man! Emppugasm?
This was a Tarja era song, and you are right in the fact that she was doing a wardrobe change. Emotions were, I imagine, running high this night because the guys all knew that she was going to be fired at the end of the show. I think that emotion bled through into this performance, making an already memorable presentation something literally once in a lifetime.
Even as a massive Pink Floyd fan that don't like covers I must say that this cover is one of the very few that is brilliant. Nightwish made their own version of the song without changing the structure. Fantastic.
What a tribute ( Not Cover) from Nightwish to this legendary song 🤩. Marko is a living legend !!!!! And you are right, emotions and feel are important, plus emotions in this performance are high. This was Tarja's last gig with Nightwish (This was pre Anette and Floor). Speaking of the Finnish army knife of the guitars (Emppu), this dude can make guitars sing !!! AND, here is a little list of Nightwish covers/tributes: Over the Hills and Far Away (Gary Moore cover) Walking in the Air (Howard Blake cover) The Phantom of the Opera (Andrew Lloyd Webber cover) Symphony of Destruction (Megadeth cover) Elvenjig ([traditional] cover) Finlandia (Jean Sibelius cover) High Hopes (Pink Floyd cover) Crazy Train (Ozzy Osbourne cover) The Mug of Brown Ale ([traditional] cover) We're Not Gonna Take It (Twisted Sister cover) Wild Child (W.A.S.P. cover) Stone People (John Two‐Hawks cover) Alone (i‐Ten cover) Ace of Spades (Motörhead cover) Don't Talk to Strangers (Dio cover) Locomotive Breath (Jethro Tull cover) Money (Pink Floyd cover) Rock Around the Clock (Sonny Dae and His Knights cover) Show Me How to Die (Battle Beast cover) Wonderful Life (Black cover) NWSU/FloorFan 🤘😎🤘.
There's just nothing bad you can say about the performance of this incredible tribute! Every player had an equal hand in making it as great as it is! For an even more *chill-inducing* vocal by Marko, see him perform with his band, Tarot...song, Tides, live (Undead Indeed)! Its haunting, it's powerful! As for next Nightwish...I haven’t seen anyone suggest Elvenjig and Elvenpath, live, Buenos Aries Decades tour. There is really interesting and cool guitar work by both Emppu and Marko...add in some of Troy's magic and a super nerdy subject matter... its gold, man! 11:21
Emppu is one of those guitarists who you _know_ could let loose with some great pyrotechnics, but he puts the song over having a great individual part. I love and respect that about him. Tomo-zo from Gacharic Spin and Kanami from BAND-MAID strike me the same way.
I was expecting this reaction :) and what I read on your face did not disappoint me. What I find really unique about this performance from 2005 is that Emppu's 2 solos come as a natural continuation of Marco's voice both times. I think this is part of Pink Floyd's composition that the talent of the Nightwish band members "caught" and amplified. I would suggest a song from the DVD "From Wishes to Eternity" (recorded on December 29, 2000 and released in 2001, before Marco became a member of the band) Wanderlust th-cam.com/video/EbEMxgc56Zk/w-d-xo.html - I'm sure you'll appreciate Emppu's style here, especially in the 2nd part of the song.
i absolutely concur! and even if you dont do an Recap, i would encourage you to simply see and hear it. perhaps it sounds aged, well we are too, but its such an great Tune and Performance by Empuu included.
This performance was the last consert from "End Of An Era" tour held in Helsinki 2005. Their first female vocalist TARJA was changing her costume during this song. I strongly recommend you to do "Phantom Of The Opera" from the same consert. Tarja and Marco delivering amazing and epic performance.
This is simply a majestic performance. As a life-long PF fan, I can't speak highly enough of this. Even David Gilmour has supposedly called it his favourite Floyd cover. Marko's vocal is stunning, and the raw emotion of the whole Tarja thing comes through in spades. There's a few performances from Buenos Aires 2018 that I think you'd enjoy, with chunky guitar riffs and a heavier Nightwish sound. Start with "Slaying The Dreamer", and then "Devil And The Deep Dark Ocean" ..... live, of course. I enjoy your reactions - new Subscriber here, from Australia. You should love this journey.
Beautifully done, love hearing this. Yes it was played while the singer had a wardrobe change but that singer was Tarja, their original singer, she has an amazing voice which is very operatic in tone. The next singer was Annette who was more pop rock sounding and then there is Floor, enough said 😁 If you want to hear off the cuff Floor check out the Dutch radio show that had her sing from the phone book, yes she can sing anything and make it sound beautiful 😁
The thing what I like and appreciate the most with this rendition of a classic piece of rock is that at the same time it: 1) fully respects the original and 2) turns it own, a Nightwish song. Yes, at least IMHO
Yes, 2 solos by Emppy - a rare treat. Emppu is an EPS guitar artist. In this video, you can see Emppy on the drums platform (he was asking Jukka how he felt, as the poor guy had migrene - and that's NW for you - they care about each other.
Not only wasn't Floor on the stage, she wasn't even in the band! This song is one of the most jaw-dropping pieces I've ever heard. Everyone was playing like they had just come down from Asgard to bless us. It brings tears just from how beautiful it is.
All four of them were amazing in this song. I was really impressed with Jukka, he played that whole concert with a migraine. Did you notice Emppu jumping down from up there, he was checking on him. Check out Phantom of the Opera from this same concert with Marko & Tarja.
I'm pretty sure Jukka wouldn't have been able to play the concert if he had a migraine. I've never had one but from what I've heard and read migraines can knock you right out and you need to be in a dark and silent room with painkillers to be able to recover from one
Thank you sir, Marco is an awesome and diverse singer and plays the bass at the same time, which is not that easy. Emppu is one of my favorite guitarplayers. Saw them many times live, also in Wacken and Amsterdam...he puts so much soul in his guitarwork and you saidi it right...he does not over do it. He does not feel the need to show off, he does what the song needs. Thank you for your reaction and I love the NW tour with you, even I am a fan for many many years.
Thanks for getting into this one, this is my go-to song when I'm not sure of what I want to listen to ,sooo much emotions in this performance, from all the guys and there might be a good reason for that, they actually knew that this was Tarjas last show with them...
I love Nightwish and Floor but I´m with you on this song. This is my favorite Nightwish song. I specially love Emppu. His tone on that guitar is so clean. Great reaction. Greetings from Sweden.
One of the most amazing and impactful performances I've ever seen and heard. Knowing that every member was going through alot at time impresses even more.
yay you did it!!!! this was 2005 Floor joined 2012. Marko was established before Nightwish, Tarot, Northern Kings among other projects. this concerts rendition of phantom of the opera always blows my mind showing Marko's range.
A classy and tasteful tribute to pink Floyd. 2005 Helsinki concert. Even David Gilmour enjoyed it. Yes, a wardrobe change ,but it was Tarja. Song #8 in an 18 song set. From when he joined in 2001 to this concert, Marko would often sing covers to give Tarja time to change. Megadeth's Symphony of Destruction is another they have done, 2004ish. I don't' want to say we told you about Emppu, but we did.😁🤘🤘. Yeah, Marko kills it too. Recommend checking out Tarot, the band Marko was lead singer for before joining Nightwish. His brother ,Zachary, is lead guitar. Try Wings of Darkness or Tides.
I second it on Tides as i said also on last reaction to wintersun about Marko, also because i feel too many go for wings and because apart of liking Tides more as a showcase of his voice it has a nice solo by the end
If you want to get another sample of Marko's prowess, both in guitar and lead vocals you definitely should react to "The Islander" live from Tampere. Gorgeous rendition. Cheers!!!
Been looking forward to this one, especially since Emppu got to show some of his chops, and I knew you'd appreciate that. And yes, Marko was awesome too. I love the Pink Floyd original (as well as the live PULSE version), and I'm not going to say this is better. But I do appreciate that they made it their own, and didn't try to copy the PF version. It really stands out on its own merits.
Another great reaction! A 'picture' tells 1 thousand words! Your facial expressions say enough to say nothing at all! Haha Love seeing Emppu getting the love he deserves!! Great reaction again 😃
Hi! Nightwish Army west germany coming in with new subscribe! Liked your former reactions and of course this wonderful one of NW! Love your comment readings also, it is something unique. But it is so sad that you show the bts contend just on your Patreon Chanel because I am just in you tube 😢 but anyway, I hope you go on with discovering my favorite band. My NW story is similar to so many others. I came across a GLS reaction by accident and was sold for live directly. There is no day without NW until then. Had the luck to see them live for the first time last June in Germany (beautyful pregnant Floor crushed it on stage!) And it was awesome. My recommendations for you: Dark chest of wonders live at wacken (opener) Shudder before the beautiful live at wembley (opener too) 7 days to the wolves live at Wembley (the sexiest little guitar solo from Empuu here) Weak fantasy live at Tampere The big 2: greatest show on earth live at Tampere and poet and the Pendulum live at Wembley Bless the child live at wacken ❤ Dead boys poem live at Buenos aires I want my tears back from buenos aires (if you want to see Troy at least) .... I could go on and on 😊 the saying is " always your next NW song is your new favorite"
I would love an interview between you and Emppu but i'm not sure how good his English is lol. But Music is a language in it's own and i'm sure you both would hit it off great. Thank you loved this reaction
hey Brian, this was from 2005 ,so no Floor til late 2012, Tarja was doing a wardrobe change , her last show with NW, I highly recommend their heaviest song, never performed Live tho, it was directed towards their 1st singers husband/manager, so ya it's a bit angry : Nightwish - Master Passion Greed (Special Video) th-cam.com/video/Bkib0dIziXk/w-d-xo.html or Lyric version :th-cam.com/video/wS7NrPNjACI/w-d-xo.html Also on the heavier side : Nightwish - Yours Is An Empty Hope.Vehicle Of Spirit.Live at Wembley (2015) th-cam.com/video/vyLsU7Q333k/w-d-xo.html this by far the best version ************* Nightwish - 10th Man Down - Live In Buenos Aires 2018 - Decades Tour th-cam.com/video/Px1YJ0EdNAI/w-d-xo.html NIGHTWISH - Slaying The Dreamer - Live In Buenos Aires (OFFICIAL LIVE VIDEO th-cam.com/video/wA44tjaP5n0/w-d-xo.html ************ Also well worth a look at : NIGHTWISH - Ever Dream (OFFICIAL LIVE-Wacken 2013) th-cam.com/video/1Xi4n8dJcF8/w-d-xo.html NIGHTWISH - Storytime (OFFICIAL LIVE VIDEO-Wacken 2013) th-cam.com/video/pvkYwOJZONU/w-d-xo.html Nightwish - Amaranth (Wacken 2013) : th-cam.com/video/3yLMAxmlVNI/w-d-xo.html Nightwish - Bless the Child (Wacken 2013) th-cam.com/video/VTPXvE6o3LY/w-d-xo.html ****** Nightwish - 7 Days To The Wolves (Live at Wembley Arena)2015 th-cam.com/video/XvsfwAPbWXc/w-d-xo.html Nightwish - Sahara (Live In Tampa) 2016 th-cam.com/video/4esI0Mn1d_s/w-d-xo.html ********* Epica - Sancta Terra (feat Floor Jansen) Live Retrospect show th-cam.com/video/cx22Yuj2nzg/w-d-xo.html
Just subscribed, haven’t looked at your channel yet. So may have done some or all of these already. Last ride of the day, The islander, the phantom of the opera, the one with Tarja, as Marko sings also. While your lips are still red, the greatest show on earth, yours is a. Empty hope, all those are Marko heavy. But also with floor, or some of the first ones with Tarja, Marko also has his own band, and has before he was with NW, he’s is awesome, I’ve said before on a few different channels. If I were so equipped I’d have his babies, haha. So don’t worry, Marko can get that effect from everyone, that what happens when you’re so damn awesome, and basically Odin in human form. He can play and sing anything. Solo, or with anyone, he just stands out more when with other excellent singers/band members.
It is easier on the wrists as it lessens stress on the wrists. If you look carefully in some of the live show videos you can see Tuomas shaking out his wrists. I imagine there is a little bit of aesthetics to it also.
Constant hair stanging goose bump shivers, practically start to finish. Only the original matches this. I'd love to hear Gilmores opinion. That audience witnessed brilliance. 🤘😎🤘
Emppu does not use much effects on his guitar sound, leaving himself extremely vulnerable, especially during solos, as he has nowhere to hide and this takes guts.
You might try this one, a song they performed in a smaller venue when Floor had only been with them a few months. It's a song written for Annete, but it gives an idea of the process of Floor and the band gelling. Plus, it's not a song type you'd expect from Nightwish. "Slow Love, Slow" th-cam.com/video/Ol9VbuKKZ5U/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=DNeu1083
That was recorded long before Floor was even in the band... Tarja was the singer then... and as history would have it that performance was also her last one with the band - as she was fired that night - End of an Era.
There is a really great guitarist i really love and he is Steven Rothery of Marillion you should really check him out, he also has his own band called the The Steven Rothery Band and the album which I think is there best is The Ghosts of Pripyat.
Nightwish raising 🥂 to Pink Floyd! Jukka was such a bad-ass and how the bleep did he do this with MICRANE?? IMHO This “cover” is arguably better than the original 🤔and I am a huge Pink Floyd fan
Have you checked the band "Brother Firetribe" it was a side project that Emppu was in. "Heart's on fire" featuring NW #2 singer Annette. The slanted keyboard is ergonomic, and it is used to keep the wrists straight so there are minimal cramps which can impact playing.
Nightwish Army south Brittany France reporting. Floor is s fantastic singer, but some songs will remain Tarya's, listen to sleeping sun from the same concert.
Want to hear Emppu play some AOR? He also plays in this band as a sideproject th-cam.com/video/K5nXG_jmTBY/w-d-xo.html ... or maybe th-cam.com/video/16z-3BzHz3k/w-d-xo.html even though the video is quite cheezy.
And this band, is the o my one on earth. To me, that could take a Floyd song. And make it more so/improve upon it, at least that we’ve heard so far, and probably will be the only group who could, in this configuration, for I’m guessing a couple hundred years at a minimum. They will be the equivalent of Beethoven and Chopin, Bach in 2-300 years. Mozart too. And the Russian guy, prepare for name butchering…maybe, Tchaikovsky, ha, autocorrect saved me and had his name stored, didn’t know if it would or not, not a common name for me to type, I only woulda missed the “I” though, not bad for off the top of my head. With a Russian name.
Tuomas, Marco, and Emppu all are phenomenal in this performance, but I was also blown away by Jukka's impeccable drumming - he is just so fantastic here
It really annoys me when reactors don't even mention Jukka! My gosh he is fantastic in this song, as always.
I took Jukka's departure even harder than Tarja's. I still grieve over not being able to watch his style anymore.
Not to mention that Jukka was suffering migraine!
indeed! @@mattihelin5101
@@heymargarita9950 I thought Jukka was awesome!

Yes, you see it in the faces. And the Lyrics fits perfect to this hard time((for all). Greetings from nothern Germany
Not forgetting Jukka slaying it on the drums with a migraine. Shows what a true professional he truly is as im laid up for days with migraines.
Even as a massive Pink Floyd fan that don't like covers I must say that this cover is one of the very few that is brilliant. Nightwish made their own version of the song without changing the structure. Fantastic.
Jukka on the Drums is amazing. What a Tribute from one awesome Band to another awesome Band.

"Marko took this song from British nostalgia to a Finnish agonizing regret." (I read in someones comment and could not agree more)

Hello! I see Pink Floyd in Göteborg 1994 Ullevi Stadion. And this song remember me that gig. Awesome cover song with Nightwish.😊

This is so fine cover nearly 20 years ago but still is sooooo good!
One of my favorites as well even without Floor, always chills when I hear this, epic!

I saw Floyd in 1994 at Ohio State and saw them perform “High Hopes.” It was great but a bit eerie.
It's a stunning tribute/cover
Maybe you should check "Fantom of the Opera" from this same concert 2005 how Marco and Tarja sang together...
Another great reaction! A 'picture' tells 1 thousand words! Your facial expressions say enough to say nothing at all! Haha
Love seeing Emppu getting the love he deserves!!

I want my tears back from buenos aires (if you want to see Troy at least)
....
I could go on and on 😊 the saying is
" always your next NW song is your new favorite"
Danke, I really appreciate the support.
Good reaction. Duel of solos between Tuomas and Emppu in the video - Shudder before the beautiful (official live) - at Wembley.
That's one hell of a tribute!!!!!

He’s got Gilmours guitar tone exactly on those solos
👍 Amazing performance!!! 🖖 ❤
Best version ever ..... MISS you Syd 😢
need to say only one sentence: everyone of Nightwish is a god giftet Musician ! ;-)
I suspect the keyboard tilt is an ergonomic thing to prevent wrist strain. On several videos you see Tuomas shaking his right hand
I think he does that for effect, you could be right, I don't know. A lot of keyboardists have it angled that way these days.
It is easier on the wrists as it lessens stress on the wrists. If you look carefully in some of the live show videos you can see Tuomas shaking out his wrists.
I imagine there is a little bit of aesthetics to it also.
I think another reason, and perhaps the main reason, is that Tuomas can see the knobs and switches more easily if the lower keyboard is tilted
Great reaction.Thank you.
Šta napisati marku i preljepoj pjesmi savršeno pjesma za sva vremena Petar hrvatska
This is eight years before Floor joined Nightwish
🤘🤘🤘🤘👍👍👍Great composion 👋
You didn't have a Floorgasm but You did a Marcorgasm 🤘
Yes .... exactly... and it was..... weird lol
This was in 2005 way before Floor
Nightwish raising 🥂 to Pink Floyd! Jukka was such a bad-ass and how the bleep did he do this with MICRANE?? IMHO This “cover” is arguably better than the original 🤔and I am a huge Pink Floyd fan
Fabulous tribute to PF. Right up there with Disturbed tribute to Simon and Garfunkel’s Sound of Silence. Tribute, not a cover.
Marco is very good guitares!!
For more Marco dive into the other deep rabbit hole of Ayreon with Age of Shadows
This is their tribute to Pink Floyd's music.
Good one.
Thank you! Cheers!
Have you checked the band "Brother Firetribe" it was a side project that Emppu was in. "Heart's on fire" featuring NW #2 singer Annette.
The slanted keyboard is ergonomic, and it is used to keep the wrists straight so there are minimal cramps which can impact playing.
This song was done before Floor...Tarja was the lead singer at that time.
😎😎🤘🤘
Floor wasn't with Nightwish on this tour, Tarja was still the vocalist.
Dude, did you see how young they were? This is back in 2005.
🐕
ich! marco!
Do you know the original?
🤩👌💥💯🎼
🤘😎 🇫🇮 💙
Nightwish Army south Brittany France reporting.
Floor is s fantastic singer, but some songs will remain Tarya's, listen to sleeping sun from the same concert.
Finally
LOL
Want to hear Emppu play some AOR? He also plays in this band as a sideproject th-cam.com/video/K5nXG_jmTBY/w-d-xo.html ... or maybe th-cam.com/video/16z-3BzHz3k/w-d-xo.html even though the video is quite cheezy.
How about give him some respect and not call him “little”!
🤘🇫🇮
🤗🍒🤘🏻It was better than the original ???
Not a PF cover a tribute :)
Van halen, soul???😂😢
Just don't try to cover pink Floyd or Gilmour. Just dont
I'd put that song and guitar solo up against anything out there.
