    This movie should've won an academy award for BEST picture. The performances were outstanding, the effects were great and the story was amazingly done. I highly recommend this movie to any kid who's had Garbage Pail Kids cards. The plot was outstanding and it was well acted. Valerie Vomit was amazing in this film. I wish they would bring this back to theatres once again. Best movie ever made.

    2 good points to this movie.1.The movie poster was well done fantasy art. 2. The end title song kicked behind.

    They were originally conceived as a parody of the Cabbage Patch Kids. They were collectible cards and stickers with gross gags and punny names. ...and natch, kids loved that. It was that simple.

    I actually still have 1 Garbage Pail Card/Sticker...Grim Jim. It belonged to my little sister; when she passed away, I was going through her things and found it. She got her love of the odd from yours truly...neither of us cared much for this film, though lol

    Yeeeees I was one of the people who suggested this movie!! 😄 I'm impressed you tried so hard to find some deeper meaning to it 😂 So Garbage Pail Kids was a line of trading cards that parodied the Cabbage Patch Kids doll craze that was going on at the time. There were 100s of gross-out characters, all with names that were similar to what was portrayed here. The characters in the movie were actual characters from the cards but otherwise there was no established lore or story, kids just loved the cards because they were gross (parents and teachers hated them tho, and tried hard to ban them from schoolyards). The movie was just a cash grab, and there was a short-lived animated series (a US/Canadian coproduction) but never shown in the US because of the controversy.
    Thanks for this reaction and review, it was fun watching you try to make sense of it all 😂 😂 😂

    They were basically disgustingly cute trading cards, but I don't think they ever released a CCG version of them. They were kinda like baseball cards with a different character portrait on the front, and a little backstory on the back of the card. Pet Rocks, Chia Pets, Tomagotchi (I think they're called), Pogs, Beanie Babies, Trolls, Furbies, Mr Bucket, all kinds of weird things kids collected in the 90s.

  • @jean-paulaudette9246

    LOL Topps corporation were the ones that made the card packs (with 4-5 cards inside and a piece of gum). Another famous collector's card/gum company was Fleer. The Garbage Pail Kids were gross-out parody versions of the Cabbage Patch Kids doll craze of the '80s. They were also stickers, so you could peel them off the backing and decorate your school notebooks or whatever.

  • @darkdg4106
    @darkdg4106 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Garbage Pail Kids were trading cards, no game involved, pack of cards came with 5 cards, 1 sticker, and a stick of gum. They were made just to make fun of the cuteness of Cabbage Patch Kids. Sort of like they looked at a Cabbage Patch Kid and thought they're so cute it's sickening, and the idea for Garbage Pail Kids was born.
    Edit: All the GPK characters were actual cards that you could collect. Last I knew there were over 15 series of cards, And they now have a Funko Pop line. There was a 1 season short cartoon that was canceled after 1 or 2 episodes because it was deemed to gross for kids.

    I found out that the actors that played Dodger and Tangerine actually dated and broke up when this movie was halfway done. Turns out she was only a year older than him. He was 14 and she was 15. Which is even more disturbing with the way they portrayed her character. Especially when she was 13 to 14 when this abomination was being filmed. 😖🤢

  • @PuppetDungeon
    @PuppetDungeon 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The game was "hide these cards from your parents and teachers while attempting to collect them all from the ice cream truck". A direct response to the Cabbage Patch Kids, these were the gross out parody version. Plus each pack came with gum. Bonus. There's no real deep meanings to be found here, just Hollywood trying to cash in on a fad. ;)

    Fun Fact: The actor who plays Dodger is Mackenzie Astin, son of actors John Astin(The Addams Family) and Patty Duke(The Patty Duke Show), and the younger brother of Sean Astin(The Goonies, The Lord of the Rings). Mackenzie also appeared on the 80s TV show, The Facts of Life.

  • @BigGator5

    Yes! The ultimate bad movie! The Garbage Pail Kids collectable cards was indeed a parody of The Cabbage Patch Kids toy line. The cards were very successful with kids. I'm sure that you can find many videos on the subject.
    Fun Fact: Mackenzie Astin (brother of Sean Astin) auditioned and signed onto the movie without telling his father, legendary actor John Astin. When he was informed and given the script by his son, John thought the script was so bad he looked into getting Mackenzie out of the film. Thankfully, MacKenzie has had a very successful career and is still acting to this very day.

    Personally, I look back on my childhood when I used to watch this movie and I think it hit for me because the cards where such a big thing and all the parents thought they were gross, which made them all the more awesome when we got them! And it was also a much more adult oriented than most other kids movies at the time and since my mom never cared to watch it me and my friends got away with watching it! So it was kinda getting away with something to have the cards and watch this movie growing up

You seem to have got through most of the big names in bad films. The garbage Pail Kids set out to be the offset of the Cabbage Patch Kids who were in turn cutesy and cuddly, so I can see how some didn't click with this.
    I remember collecting the cards and you would get a stick of gum in the packet.
    The film wasn't brilliant but it's not the worst film ever, just popcorn fun, with a good message and that is just because you are different doesn't mean you are a bad person, it's a general message to all, where these days people prefer more durected or specific messages in films these days, so again I can see how people these day don't like it.

    Another suggestion for you, Jen. 1984's The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension, with Peter Weller, Ellen Barkin, Jeff Goldblum, John Lithgow, and Christopher Lloyd. It's not necessarily a bad movie, as it has a respectable 68% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and is a cult classic, but it was a box office flop when it hit theaters. It's right up there with Lifeforce as one of the most bizarre and unabashedly 80s movies of the 1980s. lol If you create more watchlist categories, this would be a good addition.

    The kids were just the most awful things the artists could create and slap on a trading card which, hard as it is to believe, were very popular. Right alongside baseball cards there were the Garbage Pail Kids cards, gum and all. Why anyone thought they could make a movie out of this I do not know. Although in some ways they were pioneers. Nobody can say a film based on emojis was a good idea. They were right of course as it sucked but it's no more ridiculous than taking the most hideous creatures ever committed to print and forming a film around them.

    It wasn't a game it's just cards that looked what the words imply and that's it from Topps Chewing Gum component low they do with baseball cards. Movie is because they are popular cards and movie is cash grab. Some guy out there hada garage filled with these cards as a collector.

    I had a good majority of the cards but I think I've thrown them away now - haven't seen them in at least 15 years. I was the one that said I turned it off after about 5 mins of the movie. You certainly are a brave soul for watching all these bad movies.
    I haven't checked your catalog but The Langoliers is, in my opinion, the worst Stephen King movie out there. I still watch it over and over but the acting is not great and the CGI is bad.
