    tl;dr
    Either pick one god and get really good at them, or play a bunch and learn the overall game.
    Saved you 13 minutes.

    The turning point for me in learning Smite, when I really took that step from being a frustrated noob to being someone who's climbing the ladder of getting better at the game, was customizing my keybinds. It might sound silly to some people but veteran gamers will know how important this can be; If you customize your keybinds to make your movement and ability usage intuitive to your own reactions, you'll get a much greater connection with the god you're playing and thus, eventually, be able to use their kits on instinct instead of trying to consciously remember what needs to be done.

    This was a little disappointingly generic tbh. You can apply "pick one main or play a bit of everyone" to basically any multiplayer game with multiple classes. I was hoping for info specific to learning Smite.

      specifically for smite as opposed to other MOBAs?
      Only specific thing I can think of is wards. Since your field of view is so limited in comparison to DOTA, LOL, Heroes of the Storm, or any other typical MOBA, wards are invaluable for not getting steamrolled by a jungling player like a Loki. I think it's kind of why every god is overpowered, since everything usually requires skill and sight to do, but even then just knowing how your team works together, knowing the full extent of your chosen god's abilities (especially how long it takes for an ability to activate or travel), and how to counter the enemy team with your relic choices and how many items to counterbuild versus just build with is much more crucial, and unfortunately it all kind of gets generic from there.
      Oh, and don't forget how to successfully counter a Loki (i.e. gods with silence or disarm, hide of the nemean lion, thorns, hou yi's bird that reveals stealthed targets, mystical mail, aegis, beads, and warding the nearby jungle. There's more I haven't mentioned of course). So many noob players play loki, specificaly because no one has realized how to counter him and playing against him can be a nightmare if you don't focus on him first in every fight.

    If you are new to smite or playing it again after taking a break from the game I would recommend trying to play with friends on it especially if you are new to the game because when I first played I had no clue what to do but my friends had been playing smite for a while. They helped to make it so I could play the game not having to worry too much if I made a mistake because I was playing with friends and if I had any questions to ask them.
    This really helped me get too grips with smite and hopefully it will help you! Thanks for reading this hope this helps :)

    The only god i played in my limited experience with the game was Jing Wei and the god from the tutorial... i forget who it was... i didn't have any idea what i was doing and was dieing constantly so i uninstaled... but i want to understand the type of game it is so every now and then i watch videos like this... so maybe, just maybe i will be comfortable re-installing and playing it someday.

    • @SunsetDashie
      @SunsetDashie 7 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      just need to know how to build her... that's my main problem with smite... it (along with games like league of legends) require you to go through a bunch of items and shit and that whole system is confusing to me... and there are so many items... at least in paladins its manageable and the game modes are fairly easy to grasp... the item system is confusing for me leading to easy death and lack of ability to explore maps and figure out what the F*** i'm doing in each gamemode... so that's why befor i play i'd like to find something teaches a complete N00B what is going on... and yes i checked out the guides on the official Smite channel... uless you think its bett to just say F*** it and keep playing regardless and hope that i can figure SH** out... i have know idea what is best.

      Been playing since January and I'm just now really using wards alot more. I think until I became a better player I did not realize how/when/where to use them to max effect or how truly valuable those little fuckers are lol

      @thanatoscolon3 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      how do wards work

    • @Reborndx6
      @Reborndx6 7 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Thanatos On Vacation wards are like your spy camera that warns you of a potential "gank" or someone sneaking up on you when you are out of position.( it will ping on the map) However they are not just for you, if placed properly it could warn your entire team of an enemy team moving into one lane to destroy that lane or perhaps warn you they are moving in on an objective to take it over. The most difficult thing to do is actually place the wards. You kinda have to be killed by gankers and practice predicting team roaming in order to truly understand where to place your wards. Overall they simply give you information on the map and they are only 50g each. Keep in mind one god has a maximum of 2 wards and a sentinel ward.(Sentinel wards tell you where enemy wards are at if placed within the circle)

    I really felt like the best way to start was playing 1 or 2 Gods from each class due to the fact that simply anyone can instalock your favorite class/god. Its not a terrible idea to have a go to in each class just my $0.02

  • @Omarglez14
    @Omarglez14 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    From a veteran that has played for long time ( 4 years if any of you are wondering ) I can 100% agree on the play the god you like the most and/or have the most fun with. Ever since my beginning I went from one class to the other, and as seasons went by I slowly progressed but the game completed changed for me when I started playing more for fun and with the gods I did too. Hou yi still this day is my favorite god and even when I lose I still enjoy my games with him, and that should be a goal not just for new but for also veteran players.

    I just went through each category of God (hunter, assassin, mage, etc) and picked 1 or 2 gods out of each. Getting used to all 70+ is unrealistic. I'd say play them a bit, get them to mastery 1, and that's good enough if you don't like them.
    Plus, I figured 2 from each also guarantees you'll always have a good pick in ranked, regardless of who gets banned.

      @V4K4R14N 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah. That's not difficult. Like I said, get them to mastery 1, or 2 at the most and that gives you a lot of insight as to how each God plays, and if you want to main them. But don't make it sound like you can rank 10 those 85+ gods in that time.

      Or you could just main a specific class and save yourself a lot of time. I play guardians only, with my two favorites being Xing Tian and Athena. I also play Ares occasionally, but I don't personally count him as a guardian since I (as well as pretty much everyone else who plays him) build him more as a warrior than anything.

      Raynday Also! If you take a liking to one type of role watching gameplay from experienced players in that role is good too. It helps with builds and seeing how to actually play that god and what you can do if you're ahead or behind. examples like Zapman for The hunter/Adc role, Weak3n for jungler, etc. Obviously there's more peeps out there but sometimes they dont play their role like Incon, he's a support but always plays mid on his videos.

    My young niece just started playing smite on console as one of the first games she has ever played. I had her play as Ares just because he is a very simple character to use, he is a tank and won't die very often, and his ult is a great way for her to learn how to work with other players. After learning the basics and getting comfortable with the controls, I advised her to play other gods that are easy to use like Kuku, Nieth, Loki, Scylla, Vulcan, and Vamana. She mostly played arena though so keep that in mind.

  • @sillysnowy108
    @sillysnowy108 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Ok, for the 'learning all the gods option' If you can't afford the god pack/don't want to buy it until you're hooked, or w/e else, training grounds is your friend. Even with the god pack, it's a good idea to go to the gods list, look at the abilities of some, and pick one to take into the training grounds. Testing things out alone first will give you a decent feel for that god, and if you want to take them into a real game, or for those without the god pack, if you want to rent (or buy) them. It may seem boring, but it is incredibly helpful to not have to spend time in game reading/figuring out that gods abilities.

    My "path to power" is as follows: Pick a god and grind until you have enough favor to buy a new god. Grind with the new god until you have enough favor for new god etc etc. I'm decent with most owned gods and really good with a few. If I have enough favor to get two gods I still get just one and get at least one mastery level before moving to a new god.

    In my opinion, Warriors are the class that helps learning items the best. What kind of defense you need, or what kind of damage items you should have depend mostly on what character you're bringing and what characters you're playing against, which also requires character knowledge, which in my case I got that character knowledge by trying out half the character pool (thanks to the God Pack being on sale one time during Christmas) or just raw experience

    I can easily say that I'm the Jack-of-all-trades player. While I have the funds to buy the ultimate god pack, I feel obligated to actually work my way through the game to buy the gods with in-game currency. I feel if I do buy it, then I get the "pay to win" vibe in me. I know that's not true with smite, but I still feel that way. I do have certain gods that I enjoy playing more than others, but I want to play with them all and learn things about all of them. I got this inspiration from watching Trendkill's Know Your Enemy. Besides, it's always a new experience when playing with different gods.

    Another great RaynDay Vid.
    I just want to note a few things that weren't mentioned in the video but are still good to know.
    Keep in mind that if you are choosing the one God route that there is always the chance that they can be selected before you. I say this because a lot of people's starter gods tend to be popular gods like neith, loki, aphrodite and such.
    Another hurdle will be your inability to fill for a team (which comes with the reliance of others to fill) which can tilt some teammates.
    Lastly I would like to share my method for starting Smite which is a combination of both points suggested by RaynDay. What worked for me was that I used one god..... from each class. That way I could still fill for my team at all times. It is also cost efficient because you could easily buy 5 gods in the span of a month( about 4 with favor and 1 from the gems If you utilize the log in bonus) there are also level up bonuses to help beginners get favor & gems.
    Best of luck to you! Try to make some friends too. It makes smite 1000x funner.
    Thanks RaynDay

    Dude if you are just starting smite just remember that everyone who you are playing with and against are still learning the game. Even the pros are still learning. Whenever you die or drop the kill the think 'what could i have done better in that fight' then the next time you get in that situation you will have a better idea of what to so and what not to do. If you keep thinking like that and enjoy the grind you will find all of a sudden you end up in the top of masters impressing heaps of people and maybe even making spl!

    I started the game as an ADC main when Zhong Kui was released. I played Bastet ADC with my friend that went Aphrodite support. I would not recommend it.
    Also, wards are literally your best friend. It is one hundred percent of the time worth your gold to buy 2 wards on your first back, and every single back/death afterwards. It is not an excuse to say "Oh but I need to get my build online!" Wards are honestly one of the most time saving, life saving, elo saving items in the entirety of the MOBA genre.

    I have been playing smite for 3 years and am I diamond conquest player that mains Jungle. I can really only give advice on conquest because that's what I play. To start out you need to master all of the gods, this may seem like a long process but after a few months or less than that, you will have experienced every god and know what their abilities do. Then you should decide on what role you want to main (remember for conquest that maining a God is a bad idea for ranked), play a bit in each role : Jungle, Mid, Support, ADC, Solo. Once you have decided your role then you should get really good at playing the gods that are good for the role, for example if you want to main ADC then get good with the Hunters. Then it is all down to practice, play the game. Ask yourself: Why did I die there?, What could I have done to prevent death?. Find out what your strengths and weaknesses are then work to improve your weaknesses. In play Jungle and for me, my strengths are farming and teamfights but my weaknesses are not making calls in late game when I really should be. And finally when you aren't playing smite then you can be simply watching SPL (Smite Pro League) games or watching Pro Player livestreams on Twitch, make sure you are watching the pros that main your role though.
    Livestream Recommendations:
    For Jungle there are Weak3n, TheAdapting, chapo, Homiefe, DJPernicus and CaptainTwiggy.
    For ADC there are BaRRaCCuDDa and Zapman. Also Emilitoo (He doesn't stream too often but is very good)
    For Solo there is DmBrandon. Also NinjaDimi (He doesn't stream too often but is an amazing player)
    For Support there are JeffHindla, Aror, iRaffer, Trixtank, Emil0witchen and PB_Mike.
    For Mid there are PrettyPriMe and Wolfy2032. Also Yammyn (He doesn't stream too often but he is probably one of the best players for positioning)

    Great video. Been playing smite for a bit now. I started only playing gods that I can make glass canons. I am starting to break out of that by playing warriors and guardians. Of course when you are just learning the game you will get some people trash talking. Just don't take it personal and just have fun.

    I have only been playing smite for 3 days, but I bought the God bundle, it was 50% off to so that was nice. I have played 32 of the 92 gods so far. I have played each of them only once, but I am keeping track of how good they felt and how fun they were in a spreadsheet. Once I finish playing all of the gods, I will retry the ones I had the most fun with, and then if I still like them, I will devote a ton of time to them. Kind of mixing both paths.

    I started with playing on xbox and the first god that caught my eye was loki. at first I sucked but then I started to realize i play loki the most out of everyone else. like i had a rank 3 loki after like a week so i mained him and started watching other people play loki to see how to play now i'm really good.tip to people watch people like the tournements or youtubers like mythymoo or doubletap cause they help a lot. and builds are your friend with the right build you can go from noob to decent

    Id recommend focusing on one god as your main, but periodically play a round of assault Co op vs AI. By going against AI there is no pressure involved so it wont matter if you screw the pooch. Even if you dont learn all the gods front to back it still pays off to have a general knowledge of your enemies abilities. I for example, learned how to counter loki by playing him, one round taught me his audio cues and showed me how easy he is to counter.
    In other words, im gonna counter rayndays point and say do both, get good with one god, but dabble in all of them. Knowledge is power.... also if your having trouble making a build smitefire has builds for all gods. Dont just cut and paste though, use them as guidlines

    the first way has benefited me greatly knowing that i will almost always be playing against a loki in joust, took a couple of weeks of grinding it out but now more often than not they regret that decision. Plus destroying mastery 10+ players due to there limited grasp on the game does wonders for my self-worth.

    I know the video is old but I’m sure some new players will still stumble upon it (as I did but I’m not new)
    And my advice as a “Jack of All Trades” type player is not to insta-lock. Sometimes your team will need you because they can’t play a certain role and it’s important you fill that role with the knowledge you have.
    My message to all you “One trick ponies”... Don’t insta-lock, us “Aces” don’t always want to be your slaves. Just because you insta-lock doesn’t mean we ALWAYS want to play that role as your ‘fill’. So if you pick a Mage and insta-lock, and a hunter does the same thing, don’t be surprised if you get an assassin instead of a tank sometimes. Also you shouldn’t always insta-lock because if ALL of you only play one type of god than you’re probably screwed. Not always, but sometimes.
    That’s my input, GLHF.

    Well I'm joining this party super late but I wanna throw my two cents in because I've done one and seen the other. And no matter which option you pick, don't be that person that ONLY KNOWS one god. Picking one to master is fine, but prepare yourself for having to play something else. Nothing is worse that knowing someone on your team can only play hunters and if they can't get that role, they accidentally feed their brains out. So If you decide to master one god, make sure you have a pick you at least know in every role.
    Another point I have is don't be afraid to take some losses while you're learning. So what if the first time you pick a character up you go 0-14. Just try to make sure that the next game you pick that character you do a little better. Don't have a bad game and then be afraid to try something new.
    Personally I have every god at least at mastery 1. I still have games where a random God suddenly clicks and I can use them at an entirely different level than I could previously so don't give up hope on a god too early, you could miss out a lot if you don't give a second chance

    you gotta find a mode you're good at. I was in a stage in smite a couple months ago where I had a deep understanding of the items but I just didn't play well. and I got tired of being the same few gods and got tired of having my team bantering me or each other. then I decided to try assault. with the random God picks I began to understand the different gods. I began to find myself playing much better and having more fun. good video though.

      If you're getting lots of damage with her and having fun, then yes she's a great starter god. It doesn't really matter what god you play, just as long as it fits your playing style. Like are you more aggressive, are you a team player, do you try to run away from fights and wait for teammates, are you good going solo against another god? It's really good to learn the items in the game. Those help you out a lot.

    I'm not new to gaming, 7 year with COH/COV (mmorpg). I've played MOBA's before. - my preference is RPG's. I love this game and finally found a class I love. Hunter. my new issue now...I'm getting pm from teammates about my choice of God or saying I suck. sometimes it's a bad match. and yes...sorry you're a hunter and I chose a hunter but this is the toon I'm best with right now. I just didn't think it was best to choose a god I had no clue how to play because we need that class for the conquest....because...exactly how will that help win the match? I finally broke down and bought the god pack. I am utilizing the practice areas to learn a new class but honestly...I'm a hunter at heart...next is guardian. any tips on how to deal with this other than smile and say - C'est la Vie! btw...we won the conquest with (2) hunters and (2) guardians. (which guardian was my backup plan). also this is xbox matchmaking....I don't get to choose my teammates.
